00:00The opposition leader's annual Diwali celebration starts as she leads the
00:05superior women's group in Lakshmi Puja, the worship of the goddess of wealth,
00:10success and prosperity. Kamala Prasad Bisesa symbolically shares the light
00:16with those featured on her guest list, diplomats from across the world and even
00:21the acclaimed academic, scholar and historian Professor Selwyn Cudjoe. The
00:27professor first made what many described as an uncharacteristic appearance in the
00:32opposition's corner back in February at the opposition leader's party's third
00:37annual crime talks. Today, however, was just a sit back and revel in the Hindu
00:44festival. Prasad Bisesa's 2024 celebration was themed honoring the
00:49divine female. As you may all know in the last two months we have been
00:54witnessing an alarming increase in domestic violence and bullying in our
00:58country. Sadly cost us the lives of many women and children. This is how a
01:05national crisis has become a national crisis. I must all make a collective
01:11effort to curb this truly dangerous trend, which is only by protecting and
01:16safeguarding our women and our children that our country can truly progress. And
01:21it is in that regard the opposition leader made her impassioned plea. On
01:26behalf of our citizens I say thank you to everyone of the diplomatic core in
01:31your countries for the great work you do towards making TNT a better society. So
01:37tonight I ask you please lend us your powerful voices, your resources, your
01:43expertise where possible towards eradicating the scourge of violence and
01:49bullying, especially against our women and Children. Her Excellency Bango
01:55Yugit Gooden, ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Trinidad and
01:59Tobago, says she first experienced the Hindu festival in TNT and was moved by
02:05what she saw. This spirit of inclusion and harmony is truly inspiring
02:13in this multicultural society. Diwali is a symbol of the country's rich
02:18cultural heritage, bringing people of all backgrounds together in shared
02:24celebration. This festival, through its observance here, highlights the beauty
02:30of diversity and reminds us of the strength that comes from embracing
02:36different cultures. The celebration is to her symbolic of the work that they
02:41do. Just as the lamps of the Diwali are lit to illuminate homes and hearts, we
02:48strive to light the path towards peace, cooperation and mutual respect. Our work
02:55like the festival itself is about overcoming differences and bringing
03:00light to areas of misunderstanding or conflict. So to the High Commission of
03:07India didn't know one year ago he would find in TNT what he lost when he left
03:13India. I left Bharat and this season with a heavy heart because I was going
03:19to miss the Diwali because I was going to miss all the festivities and all the
03:26pakwans and the delicacies of Bharat days and which were really difficult to
03:32find outside Bharat days for a Indian vegetarian like me. But when I arrived
03:40here, I was pleasantly surprised to join even greater Diwali festivities in
03:47Trinidad and Tobago in Separia. Beside businesses, political allied Chelsea
03:53Hamilton, the former chair of the opposition of St Kitts, made this plea
03:57with a general election in TNT around the corner today as the United States
04:04and other places are contemplating whether they want to break glass
04:09ceiling and have a woman lead them into the next phase of history. You did that
04:16already, been there, done that. And I want you to allow her to finish the job
04:25she started and lead you to the promised land. Diwali will be celebrated on
04:31October 31st. Ravishree Tiwari, Rubinrine, TV6 News.
