More flash flooding forecast for parts of Queensland today

It's set to be another wet and wild day for much of Queensland -- with the risk of flash flooding remaining.

00:00There were two severe thunderstorm warnings that were issued for the Sunshine Coast and

00:06the South East.

00:07Those, thankfully, have now been cancelled.

00:10But it is this coastal trough that's lingering across the South East which is producing large

00:14amounts of rainfall that is causing concern.

00:17Areas like Ipswich, Somerset, the Lockyer Valley, Brisbane City, Sunshine Coast as well

00:23as Gympie regions are on high alert.

00:26Residents are being urged to monitor conditions there.

00:29Just to give everyone an idea of how much rainfall is falling, Kalanga, which is about

00:3340 minutes north of Brisbane, recorded 70 millimetres of rain last night within a one

00:38hour period.

00:39Now, as a result, there are several road closures across the South East including at Gympie

00:45Road, Nudgee Road as well as several roads in Morayfield and Caboolture due to that flash

00:51flooding.

00:52Of course, there are several as well flood warnings about across the state including

00:56a moderate flood warning for the DeGilbo Creek at Karinga as well as the Mary River.

01:03But this all comes as an extreme heatwave warning has also been issued for northern

01:07and western parts of Queensland.

01:09That comes after temperatures did soar into the mid 40s yesterday and that warning is

01:14expected to remain in place for most of this week.

01:17Of course, authorities are particularly concerned about the added rainfall.

01:22There are saturated catchments across the South East due to that persistent rain.

01:27So there are a lot more areas that are more prone to flash flooding and stormwater surges.

01:31So the advice, as always, is to make sure you drive to those conditions, do not drive

01:35through flooded water, to stay away from fallen power lines and stormwater drains and as always

01:41if assistance is required to contact the SES.
