West Sussex woman celebrates 102nd birthday and reveals key to a long life

Gwenneth celebrated turning 102 and spoke to Sussex World about her secret to living for over a century.

00:09we had a party in this home, a very good one, and they gave me lots of gifts and

00:19presents and yeah, a feast. No wine though, I had no alcohol. No wine. So I used to do a lot

00:27of cruising, so I did a lot of boozing. Is that the secret to getting to 102?

00:33I want cocktails. I like cocktails. Cocktails as well. Yeah. I've always looked after myself. I

00:39had a job in the civil service, so I wasn't overworked. It's hard work that kills you

00:48in working too hard. I had no stress. That's a big part of being 102, having no stress and

00:56liabilities and worries. I always had sufficient income. I could always enjoy myself, go to the

01:04theatre and shows and restaurants. I used to like eating out. I think there's a lot of pleasure in

01:16eating out. Having a lot of good time. No stress, as you say, and try to be kind. Kindness is the

01:25greatest thing I think anybody can have. Kindness.
