Blackpool boss reflects on victory over Reading

Steve Bruce shares his thoughts on Blackpool's 3-0 victory over Reading.

00:00Three wins on the bounce, back-to-back wins against teams who were up there.

00:03It's very close to being what you were going to enjoy at the beginning of your reign, so one more win.

00:08Thankfully we got it back.

00:10Yeah, we needed to obviously win some games at home.

00:15And at the right time, we've hit a bit of form, we've hit a bit of form.

00:20We look pretty formidable going forward.

00:22We're a handful, wide players who can dribble at you and pace,

00:26but strikers who can hurt teams.

00:30Yeah, I'm very, very pleased with what I've seen at the moment.

00:32How much has the team just enjoyed themselves at the moment?

00:35You can see them as soon as we score,

00:38and then the shackles are off a little bit and they know exactly what they're doing.

00:43They go back into the slot and play on the counter-attack.

00:47That's what we've done away from home and got the better of a lot of teams.

00:51Obviously you've got a strong bench now.

00:53After that first half, I could have thought changes could have been made,

00:56but are you pleased that they've managed themselves out of that?

00:59Yeah, I mean, look at the big calls, do I go with?

01:03Thankfully I can bring on people like Bloxham and CJ and the subs that we've made today.

01:10Yeah, they can make an impact coming off the bench.

01:14So, yeah, it's nice to have.

01:17What's your message to the players?

01:19Look at the table, enjoy what you're doing at the moment or just stay focused?

01:22Stay in it, stay in it. There's still six weeks to go, is there? Five weeks to go?

01:27Six games for us, back-to-back away games now.

01:30So, as I said, Rotherham have won it tonight and changed their manager.

01:34So, you know, they might respond to a different voice, but I expect a tough game, that's for sure.

01:41Is it better being a chasing pack in terms of pressure?

01:44We've still got it all to do.

01:46Look, we're chasing three, aren't we? That's the problem.

01:49And they've all got a game in hand.

01:51So, we've got to win that game in hand, though.

01:53So, look, we've given ourselves a chance, haven't we?

01:57So, great that we're going into the last six games.

02:00Let's see what we're getting here.

02:02I think what history tells us, we're good at coming from behind, aren't we?

02:06We're good in the play-offs. So, bring it on.

02:09Sonic, we talked at Barnsley a few weeks ago how he keeps getting chances.

02:13Tonight was similar. Is that a tactical set-up?

02:15Or has he just got a knack of knowing where to be?

02:17Yeah, he wants to score. He wants to score, he wants to create.

02:20He looks full of life and full of energy.

02:23And he's playing, certainly in my time at the club, he's playing.

02:27He was injured for the best part of two and a half months when I arrived.

02:30He's certainly playing out of his skin at the minute.

02:34Long may that continue.

02:35He's found a hole in the left wing, which maybe was always an issue.

02:38Well, he's not really a left winger, is he?

02:40But he gives them a freedom to get forward.

02:43I'm never going to stop them from getting forward.

02:46And he's a threat.

02:48And once you've got that, it's good to have.

02:51Seems to complement Hayden Coulson quite well as well.

02:54Yeah, Coulson's played well too.

02:56And he's got a bang on the nose and he's done well to carry on.

03:01So, yeah, he's given us a threat down that left side.

03:04Just another case. He obviously deserves credit.

03:06Most weeks, he's defensive displays.

03:07But when you score a goal, you get highlighted even more.

03:10Highlights. Big old centre-half sticking in and showing them how it's done.

03:14And fist-pumps and all at the end.

03:17Bloody hell. I've seen it all.

03:19Just how much have you enjoyed working with him and seeing what he can do?

03:22I've enjoyed working with them all.

03:26Their honesty and endeavour is terrific.

03:29They're a really good bunch.

03:31And they're getting their reward at the minute for all the hard work.

03:34As I said, it's been a big, big change.

03:36Huge change in how we set up, how we are, how we go about it.

03:41Big change in January.

03:44A lot of risks taken, letting eight people go, or seven or wherever it was.

03:48Two strikers in there as well.

03:50So, fair play to the people who do all the hard work behind the scenes.

03:55I'm talking about the Chief Scout, David, who worked tirelessly to try and improve the squad,

04:00along with all my staff.

04:02At the moment, we're doing OK.

04:04So, six weeks to go. What can we do?
