During an Oval Office meeting on Thursday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the Russia-Ukraine war.

00:02I didn't know you had a peace proposal that you put on the table.

00:05It's a 30-day ceasefire proposal.

00:07Your national security team presented it to both Ukraine and Russia.

00:11Two months ago, Ukraine agreed to that ceasefire proposal immediately.

00:16Russia has not.

00:17And my question is, is Russia the obstacle to peace based upon that,

00:21just getting to that 30-day ceasefire?

00:24I don't think so.

00:24I think that they both want peace right now.

00:26They're ready to do something.

00:32But I think they are both very much looking to make a deal.

00:45Both sides just have to agree to it.

00:46We've shown them a pathway forward.

00:48We've discussed those ideas.

00:49There was a good meeting yesterday.

00:50There'll be good meetings over the weekend.

00:51We've shown them the finish line.

00:52We need both of them to say yes.

00:54But what happened last night with those missile strikes should remind everybody

00:57of why this war needs to end.

00:58And it's horrible those missiles landed.

01:00What's even worse is there are today people that were alive yesterday that are not alive

01:03today because this war continues.

01:05And the president wants to stop it.

01:07And everyone should be thanking the president for being a peacemaker and trying to save lives.

01:11That's what we're trying to do here.

01:12It's not our war we didn't start it, as you know.

01:15But we're trying to end the dying.

01:16We're trying to end the destruction.

01:18And we've shown the path forward.

01:21We can see the finish line.

01:22But both of them have to get there.

01:23We're going to do everything we can to help them get there.

01:25But they have to ultimately say yes.

01:26And we are using a lot of pressure on both.

01:29You know, if you think we're just in there because we're nice people,

01:32then we are nice people.
