New Community Police Station opens on hospital campus

A Community Police Station based on the Alder Hey Children’s healthcare campus site has officially been opened.

00:05the first of its kind in the region, placing officers right at the heart of a major healthcare campus.

00:11Springfield Park Community Police Station is based in the Catkin Building at Alder Hay

00:15and will serve as a drop-in base for Maerside Police officers, PCSOs and staff.

00:21It's all part of a strategy to improve police visibility and access, not just for the local community,

00:25but for families visiting the hospital during some of the most challenging times of their lives.

00:31Maerside Police and Crime Commissioner Emily Sporrell says the new station is putting community needs at the heart of policing

00:37and is a testament to the power of partnership and innovation.

00:41She added that by working closely with Alder Hay, they've created a space that's both operationally efficient

00:47and a compassionate environment for some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

00:52The facility is part of a 12-year plan to modernise Maerside Police buildings,

00:58replacing outdated stations with flexible community-focused hubs.

01:03Alder Hay Deputy Chief Executive Adam Bateman called the project a reflection of the strong partnership

01:08between the Trust and Maerside Police, saying both organisations are committed to supporting the communities they serve.

01:16Chief Constable Serena Kennedy said the new police station put our officers and staff

01:21right at the heart of community.

01:24She added that the proximity to the hospital will allow police to provide both reassurance

01:28and practical support to families at difficult times.

01:33The station won't be open full-time, but regular public drop-ins will be advertised at the site online

01:39and on local billboards, ensuring the community knows when help is on hand.
