00:00With that, I'll hand it over to Senator Lujan.
00:04Well, good afternoon, everyone.
00:08First off, as Leader Schumer reminded us,
00:13just don't forget about those families out in Texas.
00:18So many folks that lost loved ones, people still missing.
00:23More should have been done to help these families.
00:31At the same time, we lost three loved ones in New Mexico with some horrific flooding.
00:39Senator Heinrich and I were there in that community of Rio Doso on Friday.
00:47We also saw hundreds of homes that were lost.
00:50These are homes that survived a fire, flooding year one, and more flooding comes year two.
00:57Let us also not forget, as we talk about FEMA, that in the western part of America,
01:02we need to make sure there's a chapter for fire and the flooding that's going to follow
01:05for not just year one, but for the next 10 years.
01:08Now, while all that's happening, my Republican colleagues are saying,
01:11well, they're going to take some cuts in a few places.
01:14Russell Vaux is just starting to steal money.
01:16That map behind me shows all the radio stations across the country that are about to lose funding.
01:24Think about those loved ones in Texas and New Mexico.
01:27There were more floods and loved ones lost in New Jersey.
01:32People that depend on getting a radio signal,
01:36some kind of information to them when cell phones are not working, mobile phones are out,
01:41you can't get a message from anyone else, but it's local AM radio or public broadcasting
01:46that are still able to carry a signal to warn you to get out of your home.
01:50It's almost time for you to move.
01:51Get your stuff ready.
01:53You need to get out of there.
01:54Something's coming.
01:56And what about all of those experts that are supposed to be telling us what the weather's doing
02:00that then touches you so that you might be able to save your life
02:04or a loved one's life or a pet's life?
02:06It's absolutely disgusting, the cuts that are taking place right now.
02:12Now, in addition to that, as Senator Hassett reminded us,
02:16what's happening with all these tariffs, these national sales tax?
02:20There's probably a lot of coffee drinkers here in this room.
02:22I see a bunch of you in the morning, sometimes in the afternoon and the evening.
02:27There's a couple coffee shops from back in New Mexico that have reached out to me
02:30to tell me how negatively these tariffs are hitting them as well.
02:34And for those of you that are buying a cup of coffee,
02:37you know that an extra buck or two bucks out of your pocket for a cup of coffee is a lot
02:42at a time across New Mexico when every buck matters.
02:47That's the kind of nonsense that's happening.
02:49And to boot, they're just kicking farmers and ranchers in the face as well,
02:54making it harder and harder for them with the price of these inputs,
02:57the question associated with these food programs that are being taken away and devastated as well.
03:02It's just one punch to the American people after another, right in the gut.
03:06It is wrong.
03:08And it's time for our Republican colleagues to stand up to this nonsense,
03:11do the right thing, and reverse all that is happening that is so bad
03:15that it's hurting the American people.
