00:00I'm a Community Inclusion Officer working with individuals and families seeking international
00:07protection, so mostly known as asylum seekers and refugees. These people have faced a lot of trauma,
00:12a hell of a lot of loss, and it's very important to understand that these people are in need when
00:19it comes to even the basics that we take for granted at times. So me, myself, community and
00:26voluntary sector and organizations around who actually want to make sure that, yes, you are now
00:31in a place of safety, you are seen, we are hearing you, we want to help you as best as we can so that
00:37you can actually now start trying to build a life for yourself after everything you've been through.
00:43I try to think what it would feel like if one day I had to leave everything I know and try and keep
00:50myself safe, keep my family safe. A lot of the people are, they can't thank you enough and you're
00:55thinking, I think to myself, all I did was fill in the GP form but to them it's so much. Or maybe
01:01I'm thinking all I did was just, you know, talk to you about who you can go to for further help.
01:06They are so grateful and so thankful and for me that is just more than enough. It makes me feel so
01:12good and I feel like I'm doing my bit in helping somebody who is in need. The role is not just limited
01:18to healthcare needs. It's also, it then moves along to the inclusion side of things. It's people
01:25wanting to build lives for themselves here so how can I support that? I've also been involved with
01:31into creating a support hub so there's a hub that we run every Wednesday with a group of women who are
01:37from other countries and what is a beauty to see is them having come from those different countries
01:44themselves and they're able to form friendships even though some of them don't even have a language
01:50like a common language. It's amazing to see. It's an amazing thing when you see their confidence.
01:56Some people who maybe didn't even speak much English before and then they start even using
02:02terminology from here that we would joke about, you know, what's the crack? So it's such a joy to see
02:07people grow, them pushing themselves, wanting to do better for themselves and wanting the best
02:12for them and their families.
