00:00:18in any event Lyles has his own ideas on the dirty side of boxing

00:00:39not to let it distract me to stay focused and just keep my concentration and just

00:01:00it's always painful I mean it's never fun so uh but I just kind of deal with it I
00:01:05just kind of just bounce back like do my thing all right so that is a fabulous
00:01:10Frankie Lyles slant on on fouls do you think he could be looking ahead towards a
00:01:14big unification fight with the Steve Collins and losing focus on the business
00:01:18at hand well I think all good fighters clearly look ahead to other things do
00:01:22their goals to what they want that is not to say that they look past the fighters
00:01:26at hand I think Frankie Lyles is an excellent fighter and I don't think he's
00:01:29looking past anyone or ahead tonight yesterday and tomorrow they'll look
00:01:32ahead tonight he's just looking at one thing and that is Zafru Balegut I think
00:01:36Lyles's power is underrated he's a natural right-hander he fights in the
00:01:39southpaw stance so his power comes from his right he's a workman-like fighter but
00:01:43uh let's go inside the ropes with Bobby Chez right now and uh get your thoughts
00:01:47your observations on his style well Frankie Lyles has some great height he can keep his
00:01:52man at bay until he unloads the big counter punches and as we take a look at
00:01:55his style real nice range keeps his man you see the height difference his men are
00:01:59always coming in low he keeps the guys that range with those pitter-patter
00:02:02combinations and then as a southpaw he spins out to the right you see him at
00:02:06landing clearly getting the points piling them up bobbing moving and out to the
00:02:09right he goes again the counter punching he's using his height as a weapon the
00:02:14shorter man always has to close that big gap between he's got a gamble and because
00:02:18they're shorter what do they do when they come forward they got to throw up
00:02:21they're punching upward gives Frankie to leverage and you'll see a beautiful
00:02:24right uppercut Tim Littles is hurt and Frankie Lyles follows up with some great
00:02:28counter right hands and then the left that finally drops Littles he has
00:02:31disadvantage because of his height his reach and his style an excellent boxer

00:02:46guy who looks good on paper birdie but what about his quality of opposition not
00:02:50very good and he but he talks such a great game I don't think I've ever seen
00:02:54anybody talk that funny and that confidence since Ali used to put on his act
00:02:58and do it but all of that is very good until you step inside the ring and then
00:03:01you meet the concrete reality of looking at Lyles and that may end up being the
00:03:05concrete unconsciousness if he is not used to seeing better better and better
00:03:09opponents and he is I'm afraid he's gonna see the best of the bunch right now in
00:03:13Littles he he is confident he predicts Lyles he predicts a second round knockout
00:03:19does Balogu so we'll see what happens he says he's gonna shock the world tonight

00:03:53there he is jaffa balagu riding a 25 fight winning streak has not lost since december
00:04:2089 a decision to a fighter named ali shabu his only other defeat against the rugged ike corte now
00:04:27of a wba weatherway champ and balagu ferdy like lyle's of south as you mentioned very engaging
00:04:33personality you can see him exuding it there look at the smile i mean it looks like he's going to
00:04:37a picnic of some kind he said hey this is what i came here for i'm coming to eat and look i mean
00:04:41the thing is he no question through him you said are you did you get hurt he said oh yeah i get hurt
00:04:47but i get up and fight hey what's your best punch left and right hand either way knock him out either
00:04:51way i mean the guy was bubbling over i thought boy this guy's euphoric i mean i hope he's that happy
00:04:57the night of the fight and he is he's just eating this up he's like a kid just being sent to the
00:05:03state fair with a bunch of money in his pocket everything is no problem no problem no problem

00:05:39one loss in 31 fights that was against tim littles which he avenged six and oh in world championship
00:05:45about his sixth title defense

00:06:21frankie louse making the walk to the ring very reserved very matter of fact down to earth soft-spoken man
00:06:27born on valentine's day very workman like uh blue collar type and that's uh how he appears as he
00:06:35comes in away from all of this he really has an infectious smile himself like his opponent
00:06:40but one of those jekyll and hyde situations as he dramatically changes inside the ring and
00:06:46bobby lyle's told us he he respects balagu's record his punching power 28 knockouts and 33 wins
00:06:52but he added he's just too slow for me he also added that he respects the fact that this guy has
00:06:57nothing to lose he knows he will come all out and give everything he has maybe fight above himself
00:07:01but quite honestly frankie's doing what he does with the humility he has he's telling you what he
00:07:05believes i'm too talented i'm too skilled i'm the better man that's what he believes he's not just hype
00:07:10he's a serious guy and he comes off the relatively easy victory over an overmatched segundo mercado

00:09:35here we go introducing on my left the challenger fighting out of the blue corner entering the ring
00:09:42wearing the colors of his homeland green yellow and red he hails from lome togo he weighed in at 167 and
00:09:53one half pounds his record stands at 33 wins two losses one no contest with big wins coming by way of
00:10:02knockout of knockout ladies and gentlemen here is the number six wba super middleweight contender

00:10:17and his opponent across the ring the defending world champion on my right fighting out of the red corner
00:10:23wearing white trunks with blue trim fighting out of las vegas nevada by way of syracuse new york
00:10:31he weighed in and a trim and ready 166 and one quarter pounds his fine record includes 30 wins
00:10:39one loss one no contest with 19 wins coming by way of knockout tonight he is making the sixth defense of

00:12:14and balagu the challenger in the green trunks with the gold and red trip
00:12:17lyle's told us he feels balagu will come right at him since jaffa is strong but slow that he
00:12:25telegraphs his punches he said if i heard him early i'll get him out early otherwise i'll box him run
00:12:29circles around him well right now balagu is doing nothing but show respect he's not coming right at
00:12:34lyle's he is biding his time almost too much and almost too slowly if that's if that's his base
00:12:40boy is he going for a lesson he told us this will be his coming out party balagu in the green
00:12:46he predicts as mentioned a second round knockout exuding confidence in our meetings with him
00:12:52yesterday he said lyle's will be no problem he's relaxed calm every time we asked a question his
00:12:57reply was no problem i'll just go in and fight him i'm not worried about the guy well as smiley as he
00:13:03was as affable and friendly as he was he has some concern in his eyes right now oh yeah
00:13:08i asked him about his best punch he said again exuding confidence both hands
00:13:19lyle's uh talking a lot about wbo champ steve collins yesterday that's really on his mind
00:13:26although he is focused on balagu but he really wants collins he wants to unify that super middleweight title
00:13:32wbo and wba and here we go balagu opens it up but i'll tell you showed a little bit of speed
00:13:39there with the counters and some power i know he got frankie's attention just now combination
00:13:44by zafaru balagu
00:13:47and balagu with a right hook that sends lyle's back he's punching with a lot of power as balagu
00:13:53he is not fooling around he does have power he's 33 and 2 with 28 knockouts
00:13:59frank will try and keep him on the end of the gloves for a little while because he doesn't
00:14:02appear to be the stronger let him go and what he will do is test his chin with that right hook
00:14:06eventually he was 30 and six all 30 wins by way of knockout as an amateur balagu the number six
00:14:14contender good duck under there wild right hook swing and a miss by lyle oh and his whistled also
00:14:23whistle when he went by nice breeze some steam in that one you know most orthodox fighters their big power
00:14:28hand is the right hand because they're righties well frankie being a natural righty has his
00:14:32right hand forward and his power is still in the right hand not in the left hand as most lefties
00:14:40that wasn't a bad let him go well so far balagu backing up what he said got off to the very slow
00:14:49start feeling lyle's out and then opening things up here in the mid and late stages of round one
00:14:57nice little grazing left and just finding the range with that is the champion frankie lyle's
00:15:05good feel around you all right look what you got to do is move around your left and continue moving
00:15:21left when you move to the left he doesn't understand what's happening your jab is working good but
00:15:25frankly don't stand in front of him and drop your hands keep your hands up and you see yourself going
00:15:29back to the rope pivot off to the left side okay rather than going straight back okay turn the jab hands
00:15:36up then you got the hook on the time the butterfly should be gone now right now let's go to one
00:15:45you're not you're not dropping your butt you're not stepping around you're going straight back in the
00:15:49line ray charles that you're doing that all right balagu uh obviously uh not uh using the stool
00:15:58standing in his corner a la george foreman george hankins uh talking to him there and telling him
00:16:04all right the butterflies are out but that was a pretty impressive first round for the challenger
00:16:09not bad but both it's curious if both corners had exactly the same advice now don't go back in the
00:16:13straight line that's how you got hurt next time balagu's trainer said ray charles can hit you go back in the
00:16:17straight line yeah i wonder that which gray charles he was talking about i hope it was a boxer named
00:16:22ray charles ray charles mckelroy or the rachel well kenny adams uh getting instructions to frankie
00:16:28lyle's head coach of the 88 u.s olympic team lyle's recently uh changing uh management
00:16:36lyle's uh while he feels balagu's list of opponents look soft his numbers are impressive he says i respect his
00:16:42punching power as as bobby mentioned 28 knockouts and 33 wins it looked like balagu
00:16:47was going for another one in that first round will frank lyle's be less than fabulous tonight well
00:16:54this round is the end so says jaffa balagu he predicted his second round knocker but back comes
00:16:59lyle's with a right hand that got the attention of balagu he had a nice right hand in the left as well in
00:17:05there crisp shots obviously though lyle's is paying attention to the power he's moving staying on the
00:17:11outside not getting inside let's go come on let him go i think he's paying more attention to the power
00:17:17than i thought he would i mean he must have felt something hard in that first round i think he's
00:17:20paying more attention than he thought he would as well yeah i think it's kind of a surprise to him
00:17:24hey wait a minute this guy can punch just like that running away from that left hook offered up by
00:17:29balagu allows looking to keep his distance
00:17:40as much as about who commits with that big left hand and his right hooks his jab he uses more as a
00:17:44feeler not a real commitment in a step forward and step in for any power nor nor does he work
00:17:49combinations off of it he's just kind of dusting his way in with it just like a little feathered up to
00:17:54there oh nice little look lyle's looking angry now lands with a short right hook and continues
00:18:00to pound away as they hold it hit now that one hurt that little hook stunned and uh got balagu's
00:18:08attention frankie threw a nice combination here and i'll tell you what balagu took it pretty well
00:18:13solid on his chin side of his temple didn't have any ill effects for it louse looks like he's just
00:18:20about had enough of this guy and he's stepping it up break come on make it clean come on
00:18:27his corner saying don't load it up just box him he'll come
00:18:33let's go come on let him go comes forward he's a southpaw who can switch he can box he can fight
00:18:39feels he has power in both hands let's go let him go come on break come on come on let's go watch
00:18:45your hands well fighters so much better round here by the champion frankie lyle's round two round two
00:18:54round two is very good for lyle's planting the seeds of doubt
00:19:00and but and duff is saying well maybe this guy is good well balagu's clearly over his jitters he's
00:19:05ready to fight now as he got tangled up he nailed him and the midsection no knockdown as the round ends
00:19:16that was more of a wrestling tank of the push
00:19:20i want you standing there waiting you got to jab your way to it
00:19:24jab your way to it you're standing there waiting you get a little
00:19:27a little excellent give me the ice bag ice bag george give me double and triple jabs all right
00:19:35double and triple jab moving that head up and down side to side i don't want you walking to
00:19:40take a look at lyle's as he starts to get serious about this thing he's now beginning to punch in
00:19:46bunches rather than just one at a time he's throwing those hooks hoping to catch him hoping for that to
00:19:51happen for that nice right hook then another look at the same situation it's nice counter underneath you see a
00:19:56little rising hook or a red uppercut lyle's is starting to find the range but he clearly look
00:20:00on the inside he holds on he does not want to wrestle with the strength of balagu
00:20:08and now round three again balagu standing between uh rounds the champion lyle's effective
00:20:15at round two scoring with straight rights and right uppercuts
00:20:18balagu certainly uh found found his uh power let's go let him go let him go let him go
00:20:33lurking in the back of the mind of frankie lyle's is irish steve collins the wbo super middleweight
00:20:40champ it is time for uh somebody to start trying to unify this title at 168 to create some sparks create
00:20:47some interest well i'd have to go over to england for that that makes it uh hard to make the match
00:20:52although all i must say lyle's is ready to go any places and if the money's in england let's go to
00:20:57england england ireland anywhere you know frankie's secure with who he is and what he's about and he
00:21:02knows that he has to go over there to make the money and he believes he could beat collins there or
00:21:06here lyle's is just out thinking balagu right now he is landing too balagu's loading up too you heard
00:21:12his trainer yelling before it stopped loading up because frankie's not going to sit there and wait for the big
00:21:16punches to land while it's moving away lining things up combination to the head he missed with
00:21:23a whiskey right stop no let's go come on break back behind the head all right back of the head
00:21:28punching no good anthony bryant the ref uh cautioning the challenger balagu you'll see a lot of uh a
00:21:34repeat only in the southport style of tim littles coming charging flailing kind of wild it's got to be
00:21:39the walk with frankie and frankie doesn't want to fight that roughhouse fight on his side frank's gonna hold on
00:21:43every time balagu gets near him two southpaws going at it uh quite unusual in the fight game but
00:21:51would you look for uh balagu to switch at some point to try and confuse uh the champion
00:21:57you know i would think that he would do what got him here he's better than southpaw he feels more
00:22:01comfortable than southpaw sometimes people switch out of desperation as we just saw him switch and
00:22:07sometimes they do because they think it'll work and balagu just walked into a stiff right hook by frankie lyle
00:22:12and continue to come forward well right off the top of the head a left hook by lyle off the top of
00:22:18balagu's head and balagu looks a little bit disoriented now as he hangs on double right hook there i think
00:22:24got his attention very well but he shook it off real quick and came right at frankie he's tough this guy
00:22:28he's resilient as he uh just takes a listen to the ropes let's go let him go he's not going to take those
00:22:34double look uh hooks all all night long i mean that'll wear you out i mean those were hard he took
00:22:39it well but that's not the last right balagu has been down a few times the last time he was hurt was
00:22:451995 against a fighter named lindsey morgan although balagu came back to win that an eight round decision
00:22:51right lyle's has been down a couple of times
00:22:56frankie's tying him up on the inside because that's what he has to do that's the only place
00:22:59balagu has a chance to be effective big right hand excuse me big left hand there by balagu yes
00:23:04indeed as he startled the champion moment well let's take a look at the champions of the
00:23:17168 pound division while lyle's rules the wba englishman robin reed the fighter with the movie
00:23:23star looks the wbc champ charles the hatchet brewer won the vacant ibf title last month on showtime a
00:23:30convincing win over south africa's gary ballard a title vacated by roy jones and the popular iris steve
00:23:35collins the wbo champ known for his heart and chin he may be on a collision course to fight lyle's for
00:23:41unification of the wba and wbo titles all right let's take a look at this action which flared all
00:23:47of a sudden just when you're expecting things were quiet in comes lyle's with a combination of punches
00:23:54to stun uh balagu balagu is you know not fighting badly he's just not winning the round he's fighting
00:24:01well but his punches are slower 30 and he gets inside frankie ties him up immediately and it makes an
00:24:06awkward thing frankie gets points and ties his man up yeah i think that's called experience
00:24:12and lyle's has that he's 30 and one one no contest with 19 knockouts 6-0 in world title bouts balagu 33
00:24:19and 2 with 28 kills his first world title shot all the way from west africa but we had good action
00:24:26the last minute of round three but balagu uh doesn't seem to be phased by lyle's punches we enter into
00:24:31round four is balagu going to the body and he's gonna have a mission right you know it's funny if you go back
00:24:36into one of the old rule books believe it or not clinching is illegal it's a tactic but it's illegal
00:24:45i think they would have to throw out every fight in the 30s and 40s well that's all it used to do is
00:24:49clinch how about holyfield tyson one two good body shots and look watch the punch behind the hands and
00:24:57ricky miles with the indication from behind the hat that's the second time that could be dangerous
00:25:03that's that's not a joke we know what frankie does when they're inside this guy's trying to
00:25:06come across value is with his hand what's right he turns his neck the lecture from referee anthony
00:25:14bryant good job by anthony taking charge he said both you guys are holding but you're hitting it and
00:25:19behind the head don't do that a straight left hand to the ribs by the challenger balagu looking very
00:25:25focused right now trying to pour in on the champ there it is again there it is again
00:25:31and the fouling continues by balagu getting behind the head of lyle that's three times i mean i wonder
00:25:38when he's going to take a point well balagu right now is having his best friend and lyle's when he
00:25:43comes in you see lyle's holding on tight he did it again that was actually in the side of his head
00:25:49that's not behind the head balagu fouling lyle's repeatedly hold again take a point get behind the head
00:25:55take a point again is that clear come here come here is that clear is that clear time so lyle's
00:26:03holding and balagu hitting behind the head i think that's just frustration uh by frankie lyle's trying
00:26:09to counter the fouling tactics and balagu well the referee clearly said hold any more point off hit
00:26:14behind the head point off this should make things real interesting frankie's gonna have to get on the
00:26:18bike a little bit right now interesting we had that feature on lyle's to talk and comment about the
00:26:22your fouling look at the swelling by balagu and he's landing talk about fouls earlier let's go don't go
00:26:30now let's get clean wow's looking very frustrated well right now i think the strength's a big factor
00:26:36this guy's a little bit too strong for frankie to get comfortable without holding frankie has to hold
00:26:40to slow him down he can't he's hitting him with his clean shots from the outside but he's not being too
00:26:45effective with it i'd like to hear a fresh new definition of holding because that's a tactic of
00:26:52boxing boxing boxing you get him close you grab the guy hey that's that's called good boxing and
00:26:59anthony bryan would have to be on the verge of deducting let's go frank boy balagu just eat some
00:27:05leather accommodation to the face by allows and frankie's just diving into him at certain points
00:27:09and just diving in and holding on and it's really driving balagu crazy well this thing really beginning to
00:27:15become an adventure now well because what you don't know what frankie doesn't need to lose his head and get
00:27:21into a brawl with the guy that puts and that was behind the head and he's been saying well this is
00:27:26starting to look like that fight with tim littles a little bit uh back in england not quite as bad
00:27:31but it's it's getting there come on ken dot hey referee i know he's holding i know he's holding but you're
00:27:41walking in i don't want you walking in i don't want you walking in you're all right here don't need it
00:27:46we don't hey ralph you know you're walking in
00:27:51where's the water for the mouthpiece come on kid you know punches to the back of the head are no fun
00:27:58and they're dangerous now let's look and see what the referee is talking about now we'll see the punch
00:28:03right there i mean that was clear there's there it is right there clear but clear look look look at his in
00:28:08the effect on frankie lyle here's another look you watch when they come inside and frankie's gonna
00:28:12hold on and then he turns his head completely this guy is not trying to hit him in the back head
00:28:17he's trying to come across and hit him across the jaw but frankie turns his head completely well the
00:28:21third they're all about the same as as frankie tries to hold on see how far frankie's head is turned
00:28:26around that's on the jaw though that shot is not behind the head no that was on the ear it was right on
00:28:30the ear and jaw and that is legal that was sliding along and that's what he's trying to do he's trying to hit his
00:28:35head but he's hitting behind the head it's not as if he's aiming from behind the head but nonetheless
00:28:40a point off if they catch him do it again so we've got ourselves a bit of a foul fest here as we enter
00:28:46into round five balagoo might have thought the fight would be over by now in his favor but he's
00:28:51finding out the champion is not in a very cooperative mood in fact he's being quite difficult about it
00:28:57oh a right hook by frankie allows he missed with the left but boy this kid japa has a pretty good chin
00:29:04yes he does i'll tell you what if he's been hurt before by punches they must have they probably weren't
00:29:09even that hard that was a solid right hook by miles and that's his red and butter punch it was a double
00:29:14right hook because he hit him with one he's starting to hit him with another one and straight left behind it
00:29:18and balagoo fired back balagoo's got some kind of sand in him i'll say that boy he is he stood there
00:29:25and he's ready to come up with some more he not only absorbed the punishment but then fires back
00:29:32he's making this effect
00:29:36i think a bit to the surprise of uh frankie liam
00:29:40although he respects the fire
00:29:42yes let's go let's go break let him go he didn't take a run
00:29:47well you can see balagoo's clearly not trying to hit behind the neck or behind the head he's clearly
00:29:52trying to get across through the jaw but frankie see frankie puts his hand head he takes his head
00:29:56puts all the way into the arm that was where he can't hear anything else that last one was right there
00:30:01right in the back of the head there was nothing else to hit but back of the head that last one we just saw

00:30:49allow balagoo to do anything holds him up he ties him and even when he fires he immediately goes and
00:30:54ties balagoo because he knows balagoo's coming let's go bright you still have a feeling despite all
00:30:59of this wackiness here that lyles is in charge but you never know a lucky punch for lyles is a very
00:31:09smart fighter my trainer will say steve there's no such thing as a lucky punch the fighter threw what
00:31:13he meant to hit him if you didn't block it that's your fault great that's one way of perceiving it i guess
00:31:19final seconds of round five lyles with the right hook once again nope lyles having a real good round
00:31:24balagoo's showing a good chin though both are
00:31:35it all starts with the jab frankie believe me you're stepping around to the left with the jab
00:31:39everything starts okay the jabs once you get around with the jab he's not throwing punches
00:31:46i'm saying hey he's not throwing once you do the jab you magnify him and might stop him from doing
00:31:52anything you understand what i'm saying that's what you got to do now don't get into a confrontation
00:31:57with this guy like that okay utilize the jab step around the left hook is there then do not leave
00:32:02let's take a look at those combinations it's made lyle the champion that he is nice hook comes back with

00:36:47great fight because the fight uh to get into a different weight and to get in with as good a
00:36:52fighter as he's going to get in it's going to be an exciting exciting man the champion here seems
00:36:58firmly in control as we hit the halfway mark in the uh championship fight
00:37:06lyle's looking very confident now he's a little confused earlier but now he seems to have things
00:37:11under control beautiful combination jab a straight left and a right hook and to his credit ballard
00:37:18barely flinches he didn't flinch he also doesn't know what to do to come in i mean it's corner saying
00:37:24what are you doing jab and go in well he he jabs and he hits air miles perhaps wondering at this uh
00:37:30juncture what do i have to do to drop this guy throwing my uh right my big right hook and this
00:37:35guy's got a cement head well you know japa is also very tough and he believes that he can take
00:37:41frankie louds out one of the shots and overloading up one shot at a time here you see him switching
00:37:47and just winding up with the right hand because he's not going to hit frankie there not too many

00:38:19take your title i mean anybody does that it's crazy i agree i just wonder what was going through his

00:38:28now is throwing some good clean crisp combinations they're landing and he is not moving balagu and that's
00:38:33not you know anything that frankie's doing wrong but balagu's a tough guy and with the power to take
00:38:40out with one shot if he hit you with it i mean you know you're not playing half-court basketball here i mean
00:38:44one guy can just turn this around one shot as we saw austin do in the previous fight he took the title
00:38:50away from the motility ibf bantamweight title and balagu looking to do the same here he's got 28
00:38:58knockouts and 33 wins his first world title shot and uh even if he loses his stock goes up all right
00:39:07what's the holding on there holding warning uh from referee anthony bryant to towards frankie lyle
00:39:15oh straight hand to the face of talago let's not find a shot and even if that was a great one-two
00:39:22frank glass just comes in is content to hold on to balagu not dish out more punishment he missed there

00:40:27but that's what frankie does frankie's going to throw combinations and he's going to move off just
00:40:31like you saw lyle's had a relatively easy fight with segundo mercado a shot segundo mercado his last
00:40:38fight but uh certainly uh time uh having his hands full here with the balagu all right round number eight
00:40:47getting a little slick out there you noticed uh they try to get some of the moisture out of balagu's

00:41:30balagu does not have a real concise game plan as far as cutting off the ring he's just going to chase

00:41:41telling balagu as he just got punished don't drag along the ropes there don't hold on to the ropes
00:41:47and last continues to have it again holding and hitting by balagu right right on the back of the head
00:41:52balagu's not holding he's being held he's just trying to hit i think they were both holding
00:41:57and he is throwing those looping punches on the back of the head i mean it's it there's no place for
00:42:02those to land except running back
00:42:10they've settled down for the moment but you get the feeling it's going to heat up again
00:42:14any moment well eventually balagu's got to realize he's past the point in return he's just got to get
00:42:18desperate to take a shot and there it is a wild swing and a miss by louse there well if this corner
00:42:24doesn't know he's way behind and they don't know boxing they better tell him listen from here on that
00:42:29try everything you've got because you cannot win this on points that's why let him go let him go attempt
00:42:34there by balagu as he pours his way into the midsection of lyle's having no effect now louse gets
00:42:41up on the uh falls of his feet let him go break left hook by balagu a glancing blow
00:42:48that's what he can do riding he's got a lovely shower here's another lunging left hook attempt by

00:42:58so he can ride it okay because he's moving around with that speed good line combination to the head
00:43:05by frankie louse see frankie's throwing combinations and balagu's looking for a home run ball that's it
00:43:11that's it that's the thumbnail of this straight left hand by frankie louse that nailed balagu and he
00:43:17continues to stay up that was two punches in a little bit of trouble steve you can see he doesn't
00:43:24back up too open right he purposely backed up and looked for some room that one did rock it
00:43:28oh another straight left by louse let's go let's go let's go but the balagu's showing the most
00:43:34impressive chip big round for frankie
00:43:42happens when you stand straight up you stand straight up you're not moving it down here stevie
00:43:47one that can hit you come on you're not you're not jacking your way to end up you're waiting you're
00:43:55loading up with one punch you're doing like that son you got to double and triple up on them punches
00:44:01and stop trying to line right here we're gonna look principally we're gonna see here is how a fighter
00:44:05gets all tied up and in trouble and grabs the ropes and then the referee seems grabbing the ropes
00:44:09there you can't do that you cannot do that he's got his hands on the ropes and he stops him and then
00:44:14lyles comes back buddy well lyles is doing a smart thing he's strong combination see not just one
00:44:19two one two three four move off box smart and get out of the way of the take a look at that combination
00:44:26because there's two punches that landed and the third caught him flush i think that got him in a
00:44:31little bit of trouble not much but it got him in a little bit of trouble certainly he's got a tough
00:44:36chin bobby certainly you got to give him credit he's got chin george hankin telling uh balagu don't
00:44:42load up and throw two three punch combinations in the direction of frankie luis but lyles continues
00:44:47to be in command he's not waiting he's out speeding him he's frustrating him it's a better fight

00:44:59and the fouling tactics by balagu
00:45:03he has not taken a point away he's had about four warnings yeah and the last one he said i'm not
00:45:07going to do it again and he did it again he warned him again well he doesn't want to and he doesn't
00:45:11want to and you know the guy is losing just about every round i mean enough already he's done he's
00:45:16done a similar lead too though with the holding his regular clearly as soon as you get inside
00:45:22there it is again here it comes not yet he's giving the benefit of the down he's i mean the poor
00:45:28guys lose every round he doesn't need to have one more point taken away from that time the rep for
00:45:33bright just gave balagu an ugly stare that he was saying anything well you know it's it's not fun
00:45:40in games to get hit behind the head you can cause bleeding you can cause a lot of things back there
00:45:44you don't want to see that happen and if he has to take a point to do it then he should be man enough
00:45:49to do it well uh you just can't let him continue to to foul i don't care if he's wrong he thinks he's
00:45:55way behind or not but uh gotta take charge here it's a question to say you just can't allow a
00:46:01boxer with a punch per hand ahead that's it he better just figure it out i'm not going to do it
00:46:06whoa he just balagu just walked in on by a lot lyle opens it up and pours it off he walked into
00:46:11a straight left hand when he stood up frankie hit him with a right hook up and down up and down
00:46:15he worked him high worked him low what does it take to get this kid on the canvas he just hammered him
00:46:19again beautiful beautiful left hand there it is again here comes lyle's all over
00:46:26valaguus smothering him good punches frankie's biting his time now too he's not wasting himself he's
00:46:32he's sizing him up he's trying to time him coming out of one of those leaping crouches oh a right hook
00:46:36by frankie lyle's and this kid balagu is gutsy he is tough those are hard punches and this man can punch
00:46:45lyle's can punch the nose right on the button that's not let him go let him go let's go watch
00:46:52your head now balagu with a rock salad head he refuses to go down those are some
00:47:03and that opens up with a combination that was a beautiful left hand and even in his
00:47:07staggering balagu was trying to throw punches and he did get hit right on the chin tell us where you
00:47:12want it was an archery shot wow well he just took it a hard head and a great for heart
00:47:22by jaffa balagu he's taking some kind of punishment here comes forward oh was it a knockdown i think
00:47:30this is going to be called a knockdown unbelievable it was a good punch in there but that was all feet
00:47:37getting tangled and the crowd responds not a popular call absolute feet getting tangled that's another

00:48:41he got uh shafted there but he's got so many points ahead it doesn't make any difference
00:48:45frankie lyle's down for only the third time in 32 professional fights
00:48:51so he had a round 10. you know if you take the point off for the knockdown
00:48:56and you give lyle's around for winning it it's nine to nine it's an even round some people would
00:49:00automatically throw it in 10-8 well i don't work that way no it's not it's not a 10-8 round the other
00:49:05guy i mean lyle's was having a terrific round he was beating him from pillar to post i mean that
00:49:10one little slippage no i'm sorry it's a nine nine round and a christmas day for uh balagu
00:49:16so a knockdown in round nine for the challenger balagu at 255 of the round
00:49:22lyle's has only two knockouts past the fourth round he has connected with solid shots but he just can't put
00:49:29this guy away uh he doesn't he doesn't feel desperate because he's so far ahead all that's
00:49:34good pip and bob you know good thing about lyle's he's a work i mean he says if i got to go 12 i go 12
00:49:40there's no problem here i mean you know it's not one of these kind of guys who feels he's got to
00:49:43get out of here in a hurry he's got a date with the virgin canes or queen or something i mean he's
00:49:47easier to fight but earlier we questioned the list of opponents for balagu i don't think we can do that
00:49:53anymore no now he's got a big opponent on his on his list frankie lyles and if he goes the distance
00:49:59with lyle's he has done something lyle's plowing forward bring it in with a clean left hand there
00:50:06not only got his attention but now the fatigue factor starts to set in their feet are constantly
00:50:12getting tangled let's go let's go two left-handers although lyle's a natural right-hander i want to
00:50:19say something with the bumping of heads which no one's spoken of so far it's a miracle both of
00:50:24them aren't cut they have been bumping head pretty good elbows heads everything's been going on in this
00:50:28fight now this uh more than mr lyle's bargained for as we approach the final minute of round 10.
00:50:39with balagu in that glitch digging to the mid-section of lyle watch the back of the head again and again
00:50:46no uh point to that well i think that wasn't uh ain't we're saying he pulled the head instead of
00:50:51punks it pulling a little bit okay that's not going to hurt
00:50:59employing right jab by uh frankie lyle's trying to set up the left or maybe a look right combination
00:51:08see the counterpunches are just too slow from bowie steve he's just not getting in
00:51:12in the positioning to counter properly frankie's already long gone and he does telegraph his
00:51:17punches as lyle's predicted and uh looking for that one punch ko is balagu again the point jab now
00:51:24at balagu he's got to follow it up with the left hand i'm thinking something good combination by both
00:51:34guys but frankie lyle's clearly more effective again on the inside beautiful right hand i'm thinking of
00:51:40something you said earlier bobby if this guy could get an opponent that was a little bit
00:51:44shorter and a little stockier what a fight this would be let's take it let's take advantage of
00:51:50the jab okay because we've got it there we need to take advantage of it we need to double up on it
00:51:55and rewind the sand is more you move to the left you're closer with your left hand you're closer
00:52:00on the left hand and then you can throw the right upper cut as you step around or you got the hook with it
00:52:04okay once you get inside both hands up you're waiting to try to hit him with one shot lyle is
00:52:11pulling back on you he's pulling back on you and waiting and you are committing no more
00:52:19come on jab your way to him triple up on your front
00:52:25round 11. running out of time baby gotta go to work
00:52:28balagu continues to remain on his feet between rounds his first foray into the championship rounds
00:52:35he's been 10 rounds twice before but never 12. lyle's has gone into round 11 only four times in
00:52:42his career here we go into the championship rounds for the wba super middleweight crown
00:52:48i don't think the championship rounds are going to matter all that much unless something drastic
00:52:52happens lyle's has this in the bank he's going to box smart work smart meanwhile balagu pouring it on
00:53:00here he's got two he's got two rounds to go he's a happy-go-lucky kind of crazy guy might as well
00:53:05let it all go out i mean he's impressed the audience go to it
00:53:11that's the only chance he's got here was way behind
00:53:14so balagu in desperate need of a knockout here
00:53:23he had a knockdown although it was a spirit knockdown earlier
00:53:27down goes lyle's again from the coach claiming he was hit on the back of the head of the process
00:53:35that was that was a good claim
00:53:39well if it's such a good claim why does this referee do something you know i don't believe
00:53:43the problem is that frankie turns his back to his opponent when he comes inside he turns his
00:53:47shoulders rolling inside nothing else to it but that certainly it's a great defense to get your
00:53:51head out of the way but it puts the back of your head in play a stiff left hook offered up by jaffa
00:53:56balagu and again lyle showing his chin that's a pretty solid punch yep
00:54:05lyle's doing a little uh a little dancing himself
00:54:09watch how wide balagu is with his left hand he's trying to swing with that big wide shot
00:54:15just not going to work frankie lyle's is not going to sit there and get hit with that hammer
00:54:20left on the back of the head of lyle's again
00:54:24and here we go finally that's about the sixth or seventh time it's happened not that it really
00:54:29matters here in terms of the scoring but balagu finally has a point deducted even the crowd realizes
00:54:35what's going on well i just hope there's not more and he disqualifies you don't need any more
00:54:41disqualification in boxing i mean this has been a good nice clean fight and uh let's hope it goes to
00:54:48the end that way exciting situation of the first fight too where tim austin puts the title away from
00:54:57well we said at the top of the show that might be the most exciting fight of the night and certainly
00:55:00austin made it so because both both guys were given and taken and it was even even going into that
00:55:05knockout yeah look at that oh you see look at that the referee coming in to break him up and a foul by balagu
00:55:15hitting on the break
00:55:18well this guy's trying anything here there's a right combination to the head by frankie
00:55:22going away straight left hand by balagu missing raising the face of mine let's go both guys play box
00:55:37and let's see if the overhead shows the uh punch which caused the deduction
00:56:07that wasn't as bad as he's done i mean it was bad but it wasn't as bad as he had sort of took a
00:56:12cumulative effect as we take another look at it he's swinging the body he's trying to do anything
00:56:17and lyle's has clearly got his back see you know he's not gonna be clearly in the back of the head
00:56:23back of the neck no place else there but the back of the neck between the ears is no good lyle's in his
00:56:27corner just now said this corner my head in my head which i thought might be a lot but i know how
00:56:31sometimes the fight feels more differently especially in the world when like this this mark
00:56:38no i can see that as long as he doesn't bite him i have 108.99 so 108.98 that's what i got
00:56:46right there round number 12 the final around even this national crowd thinking that the referee
00:56:51author brian just waited too long to deduct the point from jaffa balagu despite the scorecard
00:57:00so here we go final round in the wba super middleweight championship
00:57:03championship the champion frankie lyle's in the total command
00:57:13right come on i've been fighting there great and to those people who thought that balagu was brought
00:57:18in here sort of as a slaughtering mate because he hadn't had a big uh big uh uh rames on his
00:57:23opponent's card let's go back i think twice this guy's tough putting frankie by his own admission the
00:57:30champion said listen i respect the fact that he hasn't got who's who on his resume and the fact
00:57:35the matter is he's probably hungrier he has nothing let him go come on great let him go let him go that
00:57:40time holding and hitting by balagu he was holding with the right hand around the uh the waistline and
00:57:45hitting on the with the left i don't know why he's so cautious here oh look out a left hook by balagu that
00:57:56stunned and walked right into it let's go look right in the rain and it stood him up and it's the
00:58:02last thing that golden corners be careful oh oh brother wow hero did him up round balagu needing the
00:58:09obvious knockout and he almost got one there holding right oh was lyle's wide open boy that should that
00:58:15better wake him up because he's got a long ways to go he had absolutely no guard no defense hey his his head
00:58:22may not be clear yet i mean and he has got a minute 18 that's a long time he's shaking his legs out
00:58:28all right yeah he's got a minute 15 here frankie allows it a while showing the kind of chin that he
00:58:33has you look into his eyes frankie's still okay he's back to normal no problem he was stunned momentarily
00:58:39his eyes do look clear we've got a minute remaining in the final round and that coming perilously close for
00:58:46frankie his eyes are not only clear but he's now not retreating but stepping too and then comes back
00:58:53with a combination but he slipped in that moisture laden corner of balaguer you know the two things
00:58:58angelo dundee wouldn't allow in the corner was to say are you tired and the other one was to say be
00:59:02careful be careful it's like saying to a basketball player make this foul so you need this
00:59:07good job you're going to break the line perhaps seeing steve collins right fly before his eyes
00:59:15there away from him yes somewhere over the auditorium he was flying yes for a fleeing second and then
00:59:22he recovered quickly stop stop diminished recuperative power no no no no no no no no no no no no no no
00:59:31one point only 24 seconds to go and he should not have to worry about whether it's a point or not
00:59:43a holding uh call there by the referee how about laza comes over here puts his hands up in disgust

01:00:21worry about except be careful here comes a beautiful shot whoa now watch the effect watch the effect on the
01:00:27legs of look well it's a good thing he's got that experience you know a good experience he could
01:00:32tell that there was a little bit of a a little bit of a problem with his legs there and he goes back

01:04:29never hurt in a fight at all he caught me with one shot and wobbled me but you know other than that
01:04:35i like i said i got to take my hat off to him he's a tough fighter you know he job is a tough fighter

01:06:39right the speed and the awkwardness of uh balagu he offset it with the speed he did a nice job well you are

01:06:52lyle's and balagu here frankie had to keep balagu off and you can see frank using the jab he's running
01:06:57he's moving he's staying out of the way staying at range keeping his hands out and tying him up on the

01:07:05something that's not going to be who frankie lyle's here again making points with the jab

01:08:17nine eastern six pacific now let's go back take a look at the highlights of tonight's world
01:08:23title doubleheader from nashville we begin with the ibf bantamweight title fight between
01:08:27valelo botelli and tim austin round eight that that was a very even fight until this punch this punch right
01:08:34here turned it around and austin showed a tremendous punch and determination to win
01:08:40he had taken some hammering shots from the champion so tim who didn't get the goal but
01:08:45he certainly is the world champion now it was austin powers tonight we take a look at what we just saw
01:08:50lyles and balagoo you know a little bit of a foul fest by balagoo because he was so frustrated being
01:08:56held but frankie lyles did the smart thing boxed and held boxed and held moved good crisp combination some
01:09:02power shots as well but balagoo was really really frustrating you see we have points being taken
01:09:09off for both men one for hitting behind the head one for holding excessively it was just crazy
01:09:19there you saw lyle was kind of a slip but he was he was consistently getting the combinations as you see
01:09:25here delivering delivering delivering balagoo is winding up that one big shot and frankie
01:09:30loud he's consistent landing the combination clearly outscoring the challenger that's what he did to
01:09:35retain his title balagoo was no match for him as we got later in the fight got desperate he's swinging
01:09:41he's taking his shots but the points in the foul fest continue this is one of the points for the punch
01:09:48behind the head and then in the last round the champion with only a minute left or less not only does he
01:09:53get hurt but he eventually had a point taken away for holding too too little too late for balagoo
01:09:58and winner by unanimous decision his sixth title defense fabulous frankie lyles as we close things
