00:01Previously on Project Runway...
00:04Designers, this is an avant-garde unconventional materials challenge.
00:14Erin, congratulations.
00:15You are the winner of this challenge.
00:18I'm sorry, Majing, that means you're out.
00:30A lot is on the line right now.
00:36There's only five people left,
00:38but I know that I need to be one of those people to make it to Fashion Week.
00:46Hi, guys.
00:47Hi.
00:48How is everyone feeling?
00:49Great.
00:50I'm feeling extremely nervous.
00:53It would definitely suck to go home right about now, you know?
00:56Fashion Week is just a challenge away,
00:58so we have to step it up.
01:00Are you nervous about your big final challenge?
01:03Excited.
01:04It's the last one before New York Fashion Week.
01:06Yes.
01:07It's big.
01:08You know, I've been waiting for this day for my whole life.
01:11Let's do this.
01:12Let's buckle up.
01:13Your challenges have taken you all over New York City,
01:17so if you're feeling the way I am,
01:20I think it's time for a change of scenery.
01:23Ooh.
01:24Well, I'm gonna send you all on a little trip.
01:27Mm-hmm.
01:28You're gonna get out of town.
01:30You will be traveling to my hometown, Austin, Texas.
01:33Mm-hmm.
01:34See, I've been putting that German accent on for so long,
01:37but really, yee-haw!
01:39I'm a little bit excited because I've never been to Texas before.
01:41They have amazing music, good beer, good barbecue food.
01:44Yee-haw!
01:46The city's unofficial slogan is,
01:50Keep Austin Weird!
01:52So you'll be taking in the eccentricities and diversities of the city,
01:56and we'll be bringing your experiences right back here to New York City.
02:00So pack your bags, and I'll see you in Austin.
02:03Austin is definitely weird.
02:04I'm kind of excited to see what we're gonna get into at this point.
02:07Bye, y'all!
02:08Bye!
02:09Come on, Hottie Belle.
02:10All right!
02:11Let's go, team.
02:12We're gonna sashay over to the hoedown.
02:13That's right!
02:14Texas, here we come.
02:25This is awesome.
02:26I don't know anything about Austin.
02:28Welcome to Best Western Plus.
02:30Got y'all checked in.
02:31Thank you very much.
02:32Have a great day.
02:33If they say this weird, I'm going to pay attention of the weirdness.
02:37I don't want to miss it.
02:42Look at this.
02:43Oh, my God.
02:45Hello, designers.
02:46Hello.
02:47Hello.
02:48You all know this dashing gentleman next to me,
02:50a member of the Project Runway family,
02:52and an extremely talented designer, Nick Varios.
02:55Hi.
02:56Nick, welcome.
02:58Thank you for having us, I should say.
03:00On behalf of Best Western Hotels and Resorts,
03:02welcome to Austin, Texas.
03:05My search for inspiration takes me around the world,
03:09and for the past several years, I've partnered with Best Western
03:12on my journey.
03:13Today's Best Western is modern, contemporary,
03:16and we thought their stylish new look would help your design.
03:21Now, designers, since this is a very unconventional city,
03:25is what I love about Austin, for this challenge,
03:28you will be creating a look using unconventional materials.
03:32I've won the last two unconventional, so I'm really hoping to win this,
03:38make it a trifecta of unconventionality.
03:40For this challenge, you're going to create a high fashion look inspired by this trip to Austin.
03:47You will shop for materials at two locations.
03:50The first is Georgetown Farm Supply, America's Country Store.
03:55And the second is Stubbs BBQ, which is Austin's legendary music and barbecue venue.
04:02Yes.
04:03And designers, Nick and the team at Best Western have something very special.
04:07The winner will receive 50 free nights to be used at more than 4,100 Best Western Hotels and Resorts worldwide.
04:17Oh, yeah.
04:1850-5-0.
04:20So, Nick, thank you, and thank you Best Western.
04:24We're really thrilled about all this.
04:25Good luck, y'all.
04:28Designers, let's head off.
04:30Eww.
04:31Eww.
04:34Welcome to Georgetown Farm Supply.
04:36Head off.
04:40The Georgetown Supply Company is really interesting.
04:43There's a lot of weird things in there.
04:46Air filters, pots, horse heads, chickens and ducks, so it's going to be weird.
04:56Wow.
04:57I'm just kind of looking around and seeing what pops out.
04:59Just seeing anything that's weird.
05:02Dried mealworms.
05:03Yes.
05:04Heidi said to get weird, so I see these mealworms and I'm like, this is pretty weird.
05:09The first thing I'm attracted to is, of course, the leather strap for the horses.
05:14I'm probably going to use them as a structure for my garment.
05:17I'm really inspired by the horse harnesses and the leather work.
05:20I know I can make this work and do something really cool and high fashion.
05:24My strategy is definitely go for anything that's going to surprise the judges.
05:31And I see robes.
05:33Twine robe.
05:34I really like the color.
05:35I really like the texture.
05:37Designers, time is up.
05:39Everyone needs to be at the checkout counter, please.
05:42All right, designers, let's head out.
05:50Welcome to Stubbs BBQ.
05:51Go, go, go.
05:52So there's all these little sections around.
05:54There's a section with all this barbecue stuff, band, memorabilia, and just a lot of souvenirs that embody Austin.
06:03I grab five sun shades.
06:05Then I see guitar picks.
06:06And I get really amped because I love all the colors and like the marble.
06:10And I'm like, these are the perfect things that I can just like play around with.
06:13All right, designers, time is up.
06:16You guys ready to get back to New York?
06:23Okay.
06:24Let's do this.
06:25Goodbye, Austin.
06:38Oh my God.
06:39Whoa.
06:40Did I got all of this?
06:41I even don't want to mess with it.
06:42Everything's so cute.
06:43Hi.
06:44Hello, Tim.
06:45Hello.
06:46We're all back from Austin.
06:48So, you have two days for this challenge.
06:51Yay.
06:52You have until 10 o'clock tonight.
06:54I will be checking in with you tomorrow.
06:56And your model fittings will be tomorrow.
06:59And please take advantage of the brother sewing room, okay?
07:02All right, I'll see you tomorrow.
07:03Okay.
07:04Bye, Tim.
07:05Bye, everyone.
07:06This morning, I'm feeling a little bit tired.
07:09But I have an idea.
07:12When I'm anxious, when I'm nervous, I tend to make knots, knots, and knots, and knots.
07:18This is the last challenge, and this is the last opportunity to make something that speaks for me.
07:26And today, I'm making my anxiety dress.
07:30This is going to be interesting.
07:33I plan to show the judges a dress that is made out of weird materials, like bird food and leather straps for horses.
07:43Shut the up.
07:45I want the dress to look like a regular dress when it comes down the runway until you get close to it and you're like, oh, what is this?
07:53Did you just glue the leather up top?
07:55I glued it and then I have to enhance it.
07:58Yeah.
07:59Did you figure out what you're going to do?
08:01I'm kind of just going free spirit with this one.
08:04I have no clue what I'm going to do.
08:05I'm just going to think with my hands and not too much with my mind, and hopefully it all comes together.
08:11Oh, my God.
08:13Pin-up page.
08:15I can't see this.
08:17The overall vibe that I'm going for is kind of like this like sweet looking girl, but with like a weird aesthetic.
08:22I'm playing with the guitar picks.
08:23You know, I'm just like keeping in mind this like weird factor.
08:26So I'm like, what did I get that's weird?
08:27And I'm like, mealworms.
08:34Oh, my God.
08:36Luxury mealworms now.
08:39Well, Barry, look at my mealworms.
08:41Those are worms?
08:42Mm-hmm.
08:43I really want to make these sort of like 3D flowers, like something that has dimension and stands out that I can use to put on whatever garment I end up making.
08:53Ugh.
08:54Right?
08:55You know, guitar picks, mealworms equals beautiful flowers.
08:59I can't believe how much stuff we got.
09:01I know.
09:02Thank God we have two days, though.
09:03Seeing as there's only five of us left.
09:06It sounds like popcorn.
09:13It sounds like fun.
09:14So I started cutting the vinyl records up in just little squares and triangles.
09:19For the top, I'm making a chest plate with all these vinyl records that add this really nice sheen to it.
09:24They almost look like jewels.
09:25And the back, I'm using the reins for a harness detailed.
09:29Hot.
09:30And for the bottom of the skirt, I wrapped around dog leashes and guitar straps that just go all the way down.
09:35It looks very high-end.
09:40I am freaking out, because at this point in time, I'm still experimenting, and I have to commit to a look.
09:46All right.
09:47You ready?
09:48Yes.
09:49I don't know what direction I'm running in.
09:50This is not good.
09:51I'm gonna fail.
09:52I don't even have to.
09:53Oh, my God.
09:54I take the cups that I cut out in diamond shapes, and I'm gonna literally start creating these flowers.
10:09It kind of looks a little bit wild and kind of free-growing on.
10:13I just gotta move as fast as possible.
10:16Good morning, everyone.
10:17Can I have everyone's attention?
10:20This challenge determines who among you will move forward to New York Fashion Week.
10:24So this challenge, in many ways more than any other, is the ultimate test of your abilities to conceptualize, to innovate, and to execute deftly and superbly.
10:36So, there is another dimension to this challenge.
10:41Oh, .
10:43You will be creating a second look.
10:47Wow.
10:48That look will also be a high-end fashion look.
10:53It will correspond to your unconventional look.
10:57It will be made with conventional materials.
10:59Good.
11:00We are shopping at Mood with a budget of $200.
11:03Yes.
11:04All right.
11:05Let's head off to Mood.
11:07All right, designers.
11:10Time starts now.
11:11The last challenge, the judges told me to mix it up, so I choose a mustard jersey fabric.
11:20The rest of my life is at stake.
11:22I'm just gonna have to make an impeccable dress.
11:25I pick out a black and white tweed fabric that have a little bit of sheen to it, and I also find this double-faced wool.
11:32It's a little sporty, but I know I could definitely make this work.
11:35Five minutes, everyone.
11:37I plan to use the same silhouette I'm using with my cables on the first dress.
11:44I have to keep it simple.
11:46I don't have time for anything else.
11:49For my conventional look, I'm going with a one-piece jumper that have, like, a culotte pant.
11:54I do find a really good print.
11:57It has pineapples and flowers, and it's weird.
12:00This is gonna match my weird unconventional pretty well.
12:04Designers, time is up.
12:05No more shopping.
12:07Thank you, Mood.
12:08Thank you, guys.
12:09Thank you for a great season 15.
12:11Swatch, wish the designers good luck.
12:22The twist most definitely has thrown me for a loop.
12:25I'm feeling, you know, a little bit uptight.
12:28This is wild for you because you have to still make another look.
12:32I'm doing nuts like crazy, and I cannot see a moment when I'm going to start my second look.
12:40All right, designers.
12:41Like it or not, I'm here to check in with you, okay?
12:46How's Erin?
12:47I'm decent.
12:48This is very early stages because I spent a lot of my time creating these little, like, mealworm flowers.
12:54You're applying these fantastic flowers to this.
12:58Yeah.
12:59My concern with your unconventional look is that it not look like a sandwich board with things stuck on it.
13:04Mm-hmm.
13:05All right, let's talk about the conventional look.
13:07So what I want to do is make a pretty deep cut jumpsuit.
13:10This will be fine.
13:11My concerns are here.
13:13Yeah, I mean, that's how I feel, too.
13:15I'm gonna leave you.
13:16Okay, cool.
13:17All right, Erin.
13:19Well, Rick.
13:20Hello, Tim.
13:21You have a lot done.
13:23Talk to me.
13:24This is the unconventional look, and I was kind of playing around with the boots and cowboy boots
13:28and doing, like, a halter and stuff.
13:29I realized it was too Western with the harnesses, so I kind of just kept it very minimal.
13:34Used the vinyl, cutting it up.
13:36I was prepared to ask you whether you were being ambitious enough.
13:39You've been very ambitious.
13:40Okay.
13:41However, what's the country bumpkin doing here?
13:46Amp it up.
13:47Definitely.
13:48Hey, Laurence.
13:49Hello, Tim.
13:50Talk to me about this look.
13:51So, I mean, there's no specific inspiration.
13:53I just like the leather from the horse stuff.
13:57Will these strips of muslin inside the pleats continue to show?
14:01No, that's what I'm working on.
14:03It needs to go away.
14:04Yeah, I know.
14:05Let's move on to this look.
14:07This is just the body, so I'm going to do something similar.
14:11So, I use the same colors, and I use leather to do the reminding of the belt from the horse
14:16stuff.
14:17I will say, this has potential for being completely fabulous.
14:20Okay.
14:21It's not there yet.
14:23Work, work.
14:24Robberis, this is why your fingers are covered with bandages.
14:28Yes.
14:29Talk to me.
14:30What are you doing?
14:31For this challenge, I really wanted to incorporate something that spoke about me.
14:37When I'm very anxious, I make knots.
14:40I think this is almost finished, ready to fit the model.
14:45You have a second look.
14:46Where's that?
14:47I made a sketch.
14:48I wanted to keep the color palette, and I want to incorporate...
14:52Another textile.
14:53Three.
14:54Yeah, because, you know, to have the sort of shape...
14:58I fully understand.
14:59I can't imagine how you're going to have time to do all this.
15:02I am in a mad panic over this.
15:06I could be going home.
15:09Cornelius.
15:10Hi, Tim.
15:11How are you?
15:12I'm feeling everyone's pain.
15:13Yeah.
15:14It's a lot.
15:15What I wanted to create were, like, these kind of, like, wild flowers kind of growing
15:19on this garment.
15:21What are they made out of?
15:22Um, they're cups.
15:23From where I stand, you need to, you need more of these.
15:26You need to amp it up.
15:27Sure.
15:28I think that Cornelius isn't pushing the unconventionalness of it, especially after, like,
15:32all of the supplies that you get from Austin, and you come back with plastic cups.
15:36So, this one I wanted to keep it a little bit more simplistic because I wanted it to
15:40be a nod of this one.
15:41Yeah.
15:42So, what I was thinking was doing a simple black jumpsuit, tailored leg, or I could even
15:47do separates.
15:48I think separates would be a lot easier to execute.
15:51In terms of staying here and going to Fashion Week, I believe the lion's share of your time
15:58is best spent here.
15:59Okay.
16:00This isn't a throwaway, but it's not going to be the star player either.
16:04Right.
16:05All right, designers.
16:07As you all know, I am very worried about your time.
16:11And I just want to underscore how important it is that you use your time well.
16:16Work hard and work smart.
16:18Your models will be in at 8.
16:20You'll have about 90 minutes in the morning.
16:22You know what to do.
16:23Okay.
16:24Thank you, everyone.
16:26Are you changing a lot?
16:28Like, I have to change it.
16:29If I don't, I'm going to just, like, kick myself in the ass.
16:31Right.
16:32I have to get rid of this A-Line trust.
16:33I really don't want to go up there and be like, this is not unconventional enough.
16:46Hi.
16:47How are you?
16:48Hello.
16:49Oh, my God.
16:51My model feeling actually is going up pretty well.
16:53I don't have a lot of changes to make.
16:56It's just, like, a lot of little touch-ups.
16:58More like madame.
16:59Turn this way so I can see if it's going to even get up your butt.
17:03Yeah.
17:04This one might not fit you well.
17:06My unconventional look was supposed to be for Tirza, but it didn't fit her very well.
17:11Perfect.
17:12It fits Lai perfectly, and I think it looks really high fashion on her.
17:16So this is obviously going to be a weirder thing to try on.
17:19Ooh, dope.
17:20That actually works really well.
17:22Okay.
17:23I'm going to add a snap to that.
17:25For my unconventional look, the fitting goes really well.
17:27The bustier fits nice.
17:28But for my conventional look, she looks very innocent.
17:31So I know I definitely have to edge this look up a lot.
17:34I can't believe you just whipped that out so fast.
17:37That's insanity.
17:38Amazingly, I'm ready to try the conventional dress on Priscilla.
17:43And it works, and it looks beautiful.
17:46I'll see you guys tomorrow.
17:47Take it.
17:48Take the chicken.
17:49The guy models.
17:50Mmm.
17:51Fashion week is just a challenge away.
17:53There may be two people going home on this challenge, so we have to step it up.
18:04Good morning, everyone.
18:07How are you?
18:08Good morning.
18:09Okay, here's the morning drill.
18:11I'll be sending your models in.
18:12You will have an hour to send them to the Sally Beauty Studio and the Mary Kay Color and Design Studio.
18:17When they return, you will have 15 minutes to prep them for the runway.
18:21You all know what to do with the Just Fab accessories wall, yes?
18:24Use it thoughtfully.
18:25Yes.
18:26I will be sending your models in soon.
18:28Thank you, everyone.
18:32I know that I have a lot to do, and honestly, I just have to move.
18:38Good morning.
18:39Hi, baby.
18:40I'm really excited about this, so I just want to try this on you to see for proportions.
18:44Woo!
18:45It feels like the first runway day all over again.
18:48Seeing my unconventional look, the knots are still distant from each other.
18:53I'm going to make a tube skirt with elastic gauze underneath.
18:59I'm very nervous because I hope nothing pop out of anything.
19:05The unconventional is pretty much done, but my conventional look, if I say I'm feeling great,
19:14I'll be lying to you.
19:15The problem is this muster dress, they just don't care for it.
19:20But I'm not going home.
19:22I came here to fight, and that's what I'm going to do.
19:25I try to make the best out of my mess.
19:31I want to split right down the middle, but I want fullness to it.
19:34Okay, so maybe we'll add some pieces just to give that density to it.
19:37Awesome.
19:38And maybe a little dry shampoo right at the root to kind of puff it out a little bit.
19:41Perfect.
19:42Ask her to get her hair straight for a change.
19:44Yeah.
19:45You could give her a side part, but try to get it like as sleek as possible.
19:47As sleek as possible.
19:48Yeah.
19:49When life gives you lemons, use edge control gel.
19:52We can absolutely do that.
19:53Cool.
19:54We got it.
19:55We're Sally Beauty.
19:56We always make it beautiful.
19:57So for the makeup, I'm kind of thinking keep it very, like, smoky eye, high fashion.
20:02Okay.
20:03We'll start concentrating on the lower lash line like this, and then smoking it out this
20:07way.
20:08Look at that.
20:09It's kind of cool, right?
20:10Yeah.
20:11Thanks, Luis.
20:13I want the makeup to be simple.
20:14Okay.
20:15Beautiful.
20:16I want to take the CC cream so that she has more of a healthy glow to her skin.
20:20Yeah.
20:21And then I'll take this color called crystalline that's beautifully sparkly.
20:24Definitely.
20:25Designers, in 10 minutes, you and your models and I are going down to the runway, all right?
20:31Yeah.
20:32I'll see you in 10 minutes.
20:35I think I should put your zipper in.
20:37It's an overwhelming feeling right now.
20:40Oh, .
20:41Just thinking about being steps away from fashion week or steps away from going home.
20:46I'm a little nervous about Cornelius because the unconventional use of materials wasn't
20:51pushed hard enough.
20:53Designers and models, we're going down to the runway, everyone.
20:57Come with me.
20:58Take your time.
20:59Take your time.
21:00Take your time.
21:01Take your time.
21:02Turn.
21:03Cornelius.
21:04Cornelius.
21:05All right, let's go.
21:06Heels.
21:07I actually finished both parts.
21:10Honestly, right now, I think I'm going to be on the top.
21:13All right.
21:14Off we go.
21:15It's going to be a great show.
21:16Holy moly.
21:25Hello, everybody, and welcome to the runway.
21:27As you know, in fashion, one day you're in, and the next day, you're out.
21:32For this challenge, you created two looks.
21:34We sent you to the Lone Star State to get a little weird.
21:38You had two days, your materials from Austin, and $200 to put your looks together.
21:43All right, let's say hello to our judges.
21:45First, we have creative director of Brooks Brothers Women and fashion designer, Zach Posen.
21:50Hey, y'all.
21:51Hello.
21:52Creative director for Marie Claire Magazine, Nina Garcia.
21:54Hi, everybody.
21:55Actress Priyanka Chopra, star of the hit series Quantico, and soon to be appearing in Baywatch.
22:01Welcome.
22:02Hello.
22:03Hi.
22:04And designer and co-founder of luxury brand Marquesa and Project Runway All-Stars judge Georgina Chapman.
22:10Welcome.
22:11Hi, designers.
22:12Hello.
22:13Hello.
22:14Also, we have Tim Gunn here for the runway show.
22:16And as you know, he is your mentor and will not be judging your looks.
22:19We also have an anonymous runway.
22:21That means the judges will not know which designer created which look when it walks the runway.
22:25All right, let's start the show.
22:26And good luck.
22:27I'm really excited about the worms on my dress because it's like taking something and beautifying
22:41it.
22:42And with the worms, I just love their reactions.
22:46I think that what I made was awesome, especially within the timeframe.
22:54Loving the pineapples.
22:55Looks really good.
22:57But I'm still on edge because what the judges say is what depends if we get to go to fashion
23:03week, and I don't know what to expect.
23:07As my unconventional look walks down the runway, I'm extremely excited about it.
23:18The records that I used up top are catching the light just right.
23:22It's very polished.
23:23Looks so bad.
23:24You can't really tell that it was horse reins and dog leashes and a sun visor.
23:34I'm feeling really good about my conventional look.
23:36It may be a little young, so I'm a little nervous.
23:39I'm just glad that both looks are cohesive.
23:41Given the time allotted, I'm definitely proud of what I made.
23:52Seeing my unconventional look come down the runway, actually, it looks nice.
23:55I like it.
23:56I never thought about high fashion like that before with birdseeds and leather straps.
24:01I love the way you use those kind of things, like the asymmetry.
24:04It came out so good.
24:05When my second look comes down the runway, I'm like, it's just all right.
24:14I needed more work with the leather and the front, but I just didn't have time.
24:17Is your shoulder pads?
24:18Yeah.
24:19I like it.
24:20I'm trying to look at the judges because I'm a mess, actually, inside right now.
24:33Seeing my unconventional look, I'm very excited.
24:37I immediately look at it to see if they like it, and they are very intrigued.
24:44That could be great, or that could be a disaster.
24:52My second look is powerful.
24:54The colors are explosive.
24:56You're so good at mixing time.
24:59I'm so happy.
25:01I made both dresses with my hands and with my heart.
25:06I feel really excited when I see my unconventional look.
25:15I think it speaks true to my aesthetic, and I think it sparkles.
25:19Firework.
25:20Firework.
25:21I actually created, like, a print this time and made sure that it was strategic and impactful.
25:30I'm just really excited that my second look is actually finished.
25:34There is a hint of me in there, but it's also a different playing field, because I wanted
25:39to show the judges something new.
25:41Firework is amazing.
25:42It is everything.
25:49The five of you have the highest and the lowest scores.
25:52Four of you will move forward and compete on New York Fashion Week, and one of you will
25:57be out.
26:02The five of you have the highest and the lowest scores.
26:04Four of you will move forward and compete on New York Fashion Week, and one of you will
26:09be out.
26:10Designers, this was a very interesting show today.
26:13Everybody showed us great designs.
26:15Super impressive.
26:16Laurence, we're going to start with you first.
26:19Please tell us about your two looks.
26:21Yes, so for the unconventional material, the first thing I picked up was the harness for
26:25the horse, some bird food, heavy-duty ropes, some paper.
26:28And for the second look, I wanted to keep kind of the same color palette, just play with
26:32the lines in the back of the dress.
26:34Well, what an extraordinary dress.
26:37Oh, thank you.
26:38It was hard to tell it was yours.
26:40I wanted to surprise you.
26:41You did surprise me.
26:43Incredibly.
26:44This was really beautifully done.
26:47The play between the hard and the soft, between the rope and the harness and the birdseed, it just
26:55has a really beautiful effect.
26:58Your second look, I love the sexiness of the back, and I love how you played, again, with
27:04the harness.
27:05I think that these two dresses could live in the same collection.
27:09You've really got this wonderful juxtaposition between this very, very sweet silhouette, and
27:14then it's got this naughty edge.
27:16But your second look, the mustard with the brown, it's a little on the edge.
27:20That outfit, your unconventional outfit, it's unbelievable to me, and I would never tell
27:25that's made from birdseed.
27:27I actually would totally rock that mustard and leather, I think.
27:31You know, I find it a little costume.
27:33It's Xena, Warrior, Birdseed, but it's okay.
27:37It's unconventional.
27:38You had fun.
27:39It was fun, but this one was stressful.
27:41Okay.
27:42Sometimes it's good to get out of your comfort zone.
27:44Yeah.
27:45Now onto your conventional material challenge.
27:48I find it a little boring.
27:49Thank you, models.
27:51Rick, please tell us about your two looks.
27:54For my unconventional materials that I used, I used record vinyl, which is made out of the
27:59top part, chest plate bustier, and then also dog leashes and guitar leashes as well.
28:05And then for my conventional look, I used a tweed, and the leather underneath is a bustier
28:10just to add a little bit of structure.
28:11So I wanted to rough it up and, you know, put my aesthetic into it, which was grungier and
28:15edgier.
28:16Dog leashes, really?
28:17It would be something I would totally wear.
28:19I love the back.
28:20It's just the right amount of edgy and dangerous and sexy.
28:24Your unconventional outfit is really epic.
28:27You know, I love this texture with the records.
28:30The bottom to me is not as successful.
28:33It is impeccably made.
28:35Your conventional look just has a little lack of personality.
28:38I could not tell which one was the conventional or the unconventional.
28:43The unconventional is so perfect that it almost lacks a sense of humor.
28:49I do get what you're saying.
28:51And then the conventional looks unfinished.
28:54It looks juvenile.
28:55Eh, it looks like an afterthought.
28:58Your unconventional challenge, I mean beautifully executed.
29:03Then we come to your conventional look, it looks like you panicked.
29:06Robbery, please tell us about your two looks.
29:09When I'm nervous, I tend to do knots.
29:12The unconventional dress is my very nervous dress.
29:17It's a dress completely made with different knots.
29:20You're an artist.
29:21You have something to say.
29:22Your conventional look is so striking to me.
29:25It's really beautiful.
29:26Well done.
29:27I'm very impressed.
29:28I really am.
29:29I'm impressed with both pieces.
29:31Your conventional materials challenge is not the hardest silhouette,
29:35but it reads really well.
29:36But this unconventional materials dress that you did,
29:39you are really onto something.
29:41I mean, that is gutsy.
29:42Because there's not really a backup plan once you start knotting.
29:45And you're already six hours into it.
29:48You just gotta keep on knotting.
29:51And I feel like it paid off.
29:53Wow.
29:54Robbery, I think you did a really nice job today.
29:57You know, I like the folkloric 1970s kind of hippy quality of this rope work.
30:02I love your conventional material look.
30:04You know, for me, it was a home run today.
30:06I like the curves of the seams.
30:08I get those curves relating to the curves of the knotting.
30:11I think it's great work.
30:13Great job.
30:14I see two pieces that are so different, but yet come from one person.
30:19And that's quite impressive.
30:22Erin, tell us about your two looks.
30:24So with the unconventional challenge, I used guitar picks.
30:28And on the inside are mealworms.
30:30And then these are like the band pins.
30:33And then for this look, I just kind of wanted to continue the sort of weird vibe.
30:36And so I just picked a fabric I would pick, but like not.
30:39So I kind of was like, I think I'm going to go for this.
30:42So.
30:43Wow.
30:44I love it.
30:45Yeah.
30:46I love your play with textures that you build.
30:48You know, it looks like embroidery.
30:49It's 3D.
30:51I love this jumpsuit.
30:52I know a million girls that would wear this right now.
30:55Me.
30:56Me too.
30:57Me too.
30:58Right here.
30:59I love this woman that you present.
31:01For your unconventional look, that texture is just incredible.
31:05And I adore this jumpsuit.
31:06Good job.
31:08I like both looks very much.
31:10The unconventional materials look, I love the top more than the bottom.
31:14Nothing is boring yet, which is what I love.
31:16And then for a girl who loves head to toe crazy print, sign me up.
31:20I'm impressed.
31:21Cornelius, tell us about your two looks.
31:23For my unconventional look, what I was thinking was a little bit more carefree,
31:27but things that like kind of grow sporadically.
31:29I used plastic cups and I spray painted them.
31:32And then for my next look, I wanted to create something a little bit more polished
31:37to like compliment the looks.
31:39Something different because I haven't shown you guys that I can actually make like a jumpsuit or something.
31:43So that's what I was going for.
31:45I like both looks.
31:46I love that you created this three-dimensional texture.
31:50I couldn't figure out what it was.
31:52And I love the jumpsuit too.
31:54We have not seen that from you.
31:55And so that is a nice surprise.
31:58I'm fascinated that those are made out of cups.
32:00And then your conventional look, I mean, it's great.
32:03It's a perfect little jumpsuit.
32:05So nice job.
32:06For your unconventional material, I wish I would have seen you really take a chance.
32:12You know, I've seen this technique.
32:14I don't find it so imaginative.
32:16It feels a little arts and crafty.
32:18But your conventional material was a surprise.
32:21This is something that I would wear.
32:23I would watch the styling because her hair is really covering the most important part.
32:27Absolutely.
32:28Your unconventional outfit doesn't feel too finished, but I love the romper.
32:34The fit of it, especially, you know, behind is very, very nice.
32:39Big surprise.
32:40It looks cute.
32:41Yeah, it looks cute.
32:42It looks pretty perfect.
32:43Really perfect.
32:44Thank you, Cornelius.
32:45Thank you, models.
32:47All right.
32:48We have a very tough decision to make here.
32:50We've heard what you had to say.
32:52Now we're going to take a closer look at your designs.
32:54Have a really long chat, and then I call you back onto the runway.
32:59The winner of Project Runway will receive $100,000 to launch their line.
33:07A year's supply of Sally Beauty products along with $25,000 in cash, travel and hotel accommodations
33:13to inspiring destinations around the world from best Western hotels and resorts.
33:17A new Lexus IS from Mary Kay, an entire year's worth of beauty products for their fashion shows
33:23and professional makeup artist services for their debut show.
33:26A complete sewing and crafting studio from Brothers Sewing and Embroidery.
33:30And the winning designer and model will receive a fashion spread in Mary Claire magazine.
33:34Hi.
33:35Hi, Tim.
33:36Hello, ladies.
33:39Would you like to start with Laurence's collection?
33:41Yeah.
33:42So Juanita and Paola.
33:43Wow.
33:45I mean, here I have to say, her unconventional materials look better, close up,
33:51and this looks more sad in person than on the runway.
33:53I don't know why she chose this material.
33:55You see everything.
33:56I don't either.
33:57This was a very different look from her.
34:00The texture is what is so terrific.
34:02I really like this connection.
34:04Me too.
34:05Me too.
34:06This is the creative side, and she really went for it.
34:10And we have Ala and Priscilla wearing roberi.
34:13Wow.
34:14I'm impressed that he can even do that.
34:16The detail.
34:18It's very beautiful.
34:19This was quite a risk.
34:21This kind of shows a seed of where a whole collection could go.
34:25But the stellar piece is this.
34:27The preso resistance.
34:28This is amazing.
34:29Beautiful.
34:30I love it.
34:31Amazing.
34:32He's the only one that was really creative in his second look.
34:34He really went somewhere else.
34:35He went with both.
34:36Britt and Karina wearing arrows.
34:37I want to see the worms.
34:38Wow.
34:39Yes.
34:40That's amazing.
34:41And they've been spray painted gold.
34:42Fantastic.
34:43She's just used to everything.
34:44I like this.
34:45There's something really snappy and sassy about it.
34:46I am not impressed by this.
34:47It looks like a pajama.
34:48This was an afterthought.
34:49I would wear that.
34:50She got away with it.
34:51I want this so bad.
34:52To be able to create a moment.
34:53I think I give her credit for that.
34:55We have Sharika and Alicia wearing Rick.
34:57Oh.
34:58It's quite a beautiful texture that he created there.
35:00It's stunning.
35:01Yum.
35:02This is amazing.
35:03This is amazing.
35:04I love it.
35:05I love it.
35:06I love it.
35:07I love it.
35:08I love it.
35:09I love it.
35:10I love it.
35:11I love it.
35:12I love it.
35:13I love it.
35:14I love it.
35:15I love it.
35:16I love it.
35:17Yum.
35:18This for me started to feel a little bit more costumey.
35:21I liked it.
35:22I liked it too.
35:23Me too.
35:24He makes a dress out of unconventional materials and makes it look like you can actually wear
35:28it out and get away with it.
35:29Yes.
35:30I just, you know, here he really went very amateur.
35:33It doesn't feel like the same designer in the sense.
35:36It feels like it's panicked.
35:37This look.
35:38It is.
35:39I hate to say it, but it's boring.
35:40Lais and Tirza are wearing Cornelius.
35:46This is a piece that had so much more impact when it was walking.
35:50And as soon as it stood still, it started to disintegrate a little bit.
35:55But I think this is pretty cool what he did here.
35:57I mean, it definitely is out there.
35:59I don't find it that out there.
36:01It's just fabric with stuff glued on.
36:04Yeah.
36:05It's funny because this does feel so made at home.
36:09Well, this feels so polished and grown up, but it just doesn't feel like the same designer
36:14when I'm looking at these two.
36:17All right, so we've made our decision.
36:23Let's bring them back out.
36:26Designers, four of you will move forward to New York Fashion Week.
36:30And one of you will be out.
36:32Robbery.
36:33Congratulations.
36:34You are the winner of this challenge.
36:35Thank you very much.
36:36Robbery, as the winner of this challenge, you will receive 50 complimentary knights from
36:49Best Western.
36:50Yay!
36:51That you can use at any of their locations from around the world.
36:55But even more exciting, Robbery, you'll be going to New York Fashion Week.
37:00Congratulations.
37:10Good luck.
37:11You can leave the runway.
37:13I'm fantasizing my collection since I got the letter saying you're going to be on Project Runway.
37:19The next step is to go and make a collection.
37:22And I'm scared.
37:25Yay!
37:29Erin.
37:31Congratulations.
37:32You're moving to New York Fashion Week.
37:36I'm really excited to show you guys what I'm going to do.
37:39I feel so honored and really fortunate to be able to go to Fashion Week.
37:44I'm so ready to basically treat this like a challenge every day and just make the most amazing collection.
37:53I have no idea what it is, but I know it's going to be dope.
37:58Laurence.
37:59Yes.
38:01Congratulations.
38:02You will also be showing at New York Fashion Week.
38:04Thank you so much.
38:05Promise I won't disappoint you.
38:07We want to see an amazing collection coming from you.
38:09I will, I promise.
38:10I will.
38:11Thank you guys.
38:12Bravo.
38:14I'm going to Fashion Week.
38:16I'm free to be myself again and just create what I want to create and present to you.
38:22Yes!
38:25I knew it.
38:26This collection is going to be everything.
38:28That's a promise.
38:29I'm actually excited to have Tim come to my house and come to my space this time.
38:35And I'm going to tell him what to do.
38:38Congrats, guys.
38:39This is it.
38:42Rick, Cornelius, you are both incredibly talented.
38:46But unfortunately, only one of you will move forward to New York Fashion Week.
38:50And one of you will be out.
38:53Rick, your unconventional dress was sleek and polished, while your conventional dress was a bit more conventional.
39:00Cornelius, the unconventional dress felt a little arts and crafts.
39:05The romper was really well done.
39:08But then we were lacking a real sense of surprise.
39:13Rick.
39:22You're in.
39:25And you are moving forward to New York Fashion Week.
39:27Congratulations.
39:29Thank you guys for believing in me.
39:32You can leave the runway.
39:35I never really thought I would make it to Fashion Week.
39:37And now I'm like, oh, it's real.
39:42Are you coming?
39:43Yeah, I'm going to Fashion Week.
39:45Yay!
39:47I'm extremely thrilled and can't wait to come back to New York.
39:50Yes!
39:56Cornelius, it really is breaking my heart that I have to tell you this for the second time.
40:01But that means you're out.
40:03Okay.
40:04We think that you are so very talented.
40:07Thank you, guys.
40:08I wish you all the best.
40:09Thanks.
40:10It's been a good ride.
40:11I don't think I should have been eliminated.
40:12For me to send out something that I'm completely in love with shows a little bit of growth.
40:16But, you know, damn.
40:17That close.
40:18Hi, guys.
40:19Hey, baby.
40:20Oh, my God, don't even cry.
40:21Please.
40:22I've been through it.
40:23I learned that Cornelius is a strong individual.
40:24I'm a very creative person and I like to actually dig my hands into things.
40:38If this can't get me to where I need to get, I'm going to do it on my own.
40:44Well, I am here to say that this is a moment to celebrate.
40:48And, Cornelius, I'm going to begin with you.
40:50Look what you've achieved.
40:51You're one of the final five.
40:53Thank you, Tim.
40:54So, congratulations to Cornelius.
40:58And now I do have to send you to the work room to clean up your space.
41:00All right.
41:01Awesome.
41:02That's cool.
41:03All right?
41:04We will hear and see much, much more from you.
41:06You most definitely will.
41:07That's for sure.
41:08All right.
41:10Making it this far is a humbling experience.
41:12I can only look up from here.
41:13I can get back home and actually build a brand on my own.
41:16Project Runway is everything.
41:20Next time on Project Runway, the four of you have six weeks to create a ten-look collection.
41:29And I'm going to be knocking on your door to see how you're doing.
41:32We're bowling?
41:33I couldn't feel anything for the guy.
41:36But when he died, I had to let everything go with him.
41:39I don't have, like, a full garment.
41:41Oh, my God.
41:42I'm going to sound really cruel.
41:44I came here to win.
41:45Everything's at stake here.
41:46I asked a friend to help me out today.
41:47Michael Garns!
41:48We're in the beer garden.
41:49Oh, yeah.
41:50Trash bag sheet.
41:51It looks childish.
41:53We're in the beer garden.
41:54Oh, yeah.
41:55Trash bag sheet.
41:56It looks childish.
41:58Veryól, yeah.
41:59I don't know.
