06:56oh wow
07:02oh wow yeah that's awesome that's really cool too whatever those things are
07:10oh my gosh oh see that's so beautiful there's the Eiffel Tower
07:18oh my gosh that's amazing
07:32when my fellow designers girl off to their chic European cities and I'm here in New York
07:40I just feel homesick and really lonely
07:47if I don't get this dark cloud that's hanging over my emotions out of here I could end up creating
07:54something really miserable
08:01oh look at that ripped paper with what that's how many it goes yeah
08:04it's not your regular graffiti where it's spray painted or painted it is paper and then they've
08:12put it onto the wall there's some funky cool stuff going on here
08:21so pretty I'm so drawn to the beauty of the architecture and the details of the tiles I think it's amazing
08:29look at that
08:34there he's ringing big Ben's ringing
08:37yeah
08:40start sketching
08:48well like the way this is look underneath here

08:59oh my god we're at the Eiffel Tower and that's where I'm gonna sketch
09:06hey hey
09:07I was pretty downtrodden that I didn't get to go to Europe
09:11oh my gosh this is crazy but there is a lot of beauty around me
09:15I love these old buildings
09:17what's really inspiring me is the old buildings sandwiched in with the new
09:23wow especially when it's reflected in the glass of something new
09:28this has really changed my spirit
09:31that I love
09:35oh my gosh this wow is so amazing
09:40I can't believe this is it I'm already like thinking okay I want to work with leather
09:46and create my pattern the best way to showcase that would be with a very beautiful jacket
09:51this amazing stuff there's this up here check this out up here
09:57oh how much is this yard this is 140 pounds we're looking at
10:01569 pounds 90 if you want to take four and a half of this one

10:13I don't understand what they're saying
10:15Patricia we need to return 247 euros worth
10:18you need to take a cut like that and then it's good
10:23it's good
10:24it's good
10:25it's good
10:25impeccable
10:26okay
10:26okay
10:27all right
10:28voila
10:28voila
10:29okay
10:35what is this
10:36we find vinyl this white jacket black dress why not black and white and that's me
10:45i would like to go look at wool first i like this color that is freaking gorgeous thank you man
11:02hi hi do you have leather no my whole design is based on leather what am i going to do
11:10what am i going to do so i find these two different types of black lace oh i like them both the
11:16pattern is exactly like something that i was hoping to achieve with the leather but it's already here
11:26how that looks that looks amazing
11:44if i was in michelle's position i would be like you guys keep talking about it but i can still take your
11:50place
11:56okay
12:04there were times where i was in a really dark place but as i work that frustration is getting out and
12:11as i'm creating it's lifting my spirits it's lifting my energy hello designers hello how is
12:18everybody good hi daniel how are you hi amanda hello these are photographs that you yes what's this
12:25building this is one that caught my eye instantly and my total inspiration too also so tell me what
12:32you're doing what are you creating the inspiration of this came to came to terms with this crazy cool
12:39jacket which i love what is this it's actually man-made leather so how are you feeling about the the
12:44whole look has more attitude and more sex appeal you have a lot of work to do okay we got a lot of work
12:50okay all right carry on gentlemen how was london london was fabulous looking at all the the structures
12:56and i come up with this design very simple so this is a separate piece and this is like a little
13:00cape but yeah i just wanted to do something that kind of covered her up but once you take it off
13:05she would have this you know this beautiful back carry on sam all right thank you tim patricia kate how
13:14are you we're fine we're fabulous paris what was it like it was amazing experience it was incredible
13:21we saw a lot of installation graffiti so i was inspired to create a textile that had all of that
13:28layering how have you created this it's layers upon layers upon layers here's the back good heavens
13:35so i've basically like painted with textiles all these patricia that's quite remarkable thank you
13:43how are you michelle good good hi too i'm so eager to hear what you're doing what is this piece this
13:49is a for lack of a nicer sounding term a bib or a breastplate and then the other idea because this
13:57is my favorite thing i saw while we were traveling around new york left over soot from the coal burning
14:04fire furnaces on the side of buildings brick buildings you see a lot of it yeah i had an idea
14:10of doing that kind of really thick on the bottom and building its way up i love the idea of the ombre
14:16i think it's a fabulous really beautiful sophisticated look do it okay set it up setting it up all right
14:25thanks michelle thank you hi liana hi samantha so what was the best part of barcelona it was
14:32really hard to decide we were just mesmerized but everything we're looking what did you take photographs
14:37of it's so gorgeous and everything you look it's like detail detail detail so what are you making okay so i'm
14:42making a jacket a pair of pants and a blouse but it's more of a coat yeah it is a coat i'm sorry i
14:48said jacket sorry okay and is this the shape we're going to see yeah i want the coat clothes and then
14:53for this it's long sleeve and then i just want it coming out a little bit for the pop of color
14:59can i say something though this is so much work yes do you have time to do this and this elaborate
15:05well i have samantha but i'm considering our time frame all right you have a lot of work to do
15:11i do carry on i will okay thanks thank you designers you have until 11 o'clock tonight
15:19your models will be in for a fitting in about an hour all right i will see you in the morning and have
15:25a great night okay thank you tim there are the girls perfect love the way this looks it looks beautiful
15:34you did such a great job thank you bye-bye this coat is taking so much time much longer than i expected
15:41okay time it's time to go folks time is going by so fast i'm very worried
15:55good morning good morning designers how is everyone fabulous good you have two hours until
16:02we go down to the room you will have an hour to send your models to the l'oreal paris hair and makeup
16:07rooms use the lord and taylor wall very thoughtfully okay all right i'll check back in with you later thank
16:13you thank you
16:14and paris i saw a lot of like smoky eye filling so that way her eyes being the kind of the strength
16:29that is in the eyes we want her to look expensive and very clean i would do a shimmery golden gloss around
16:37the eye yeah perfect
16:42flat iron nice shiny glossy hair yeah yeah we're gonna use the everstyle smooth and shine cream
16:48a nice glossy smooth finish thank you take this into more of a mohawk feeling got it so we'll use the
16:55everstyle root lifting spray to get a lot of volume that's what i want designers say goodbye to your
17:02sewing assistants you and your models and i are going down to the runway okay right now
17:07all right designers okay Daniel yes come on come on thank you
17:26hi everybody hey welcome to the runway as you know in fashion one day you're in and the next day
17:32you're out this is a very important fashion show tonight we will decide who will compete at
17:39mercedes-benz fashion week and who will be out for this challenge we send you all to fashion capitals
17:46of the world four of you went to european adventures to find your inspiration and buy your fabric and
17:53michelle you found your inspiration right here in new york city i have to say this was an amazing
17:58opportunity and our expectations they're high okay let's meet the judges first we have acclaimed american
18:05designer zach posen hi fashion director for mary claire magazine nina garcia hi everyone
18:13and our guest judge for today stylish singer songwriter and nine-time grammy winner john legend
18:19hello hello we will score your designs as they come down the runway some of you will go to new york fashion
18:26week and one of you will be out okay let's start the show
18:31it speaks barcelona and it speaks my experience there i think the judges are gonna love it and see
18:48how much work i put into it
19:01it just looks amazing i really really love it she looks very new i feel so confident i really think
19:07i'm going to fashion week the dress is swinging and looks so light and lively it's beautiful the shine
19:24you can actually see the detail of the quilting which is something i didn't think you would see
19:30the ombre you do not see it nearly as well as you did in the work room and that's a little worrisome
19:36because it's starting to look muddy and that's not really my intention oh it had a swirl in it oh
19:52the way she's walking and just giving so much drama down the runway it's beyond beautiful it's just
19:58breathtaking it captures my inspiration it captures the look and feel of london that i want to portray
20:09i'm so happy and proud just because it says stanley it looks like me it evokes my design aesthetic it
20:16everything about it
20:31i am seeing the layers that i saw on the street i am seeing that the collar is different the yoke is
20:37different the sleeve is different nobody else has done a sleeve in a collar like that
20:50i hope that they see that i really did push textile and construction to a different level
20:58i can see some paris in there
21:10i embraced that fabric store in berlin and used what they had even though it was a man-made leather
21:15it is exciting to me it's cool
21:26it felt different it felt new to me and i think it looked amazing oh my
21:36oh yes
21:37designers tonight we will decide which of you will compete at mercedes-benz fashion week
21:48and who will be out
21:56tonight we will decide which of you will compete at mercedes-benz fashion week and who will be out
22:02all right let's bring out your models
22:11all right i want to start with daniel daniel tell us about your trip your inspiration and your look
22:17berlin turned the volume up for me on attitude and sex appeal and actually the architecture had a big
22:23impact on me so i was inspired by this building by the marketplace and actually this is pleather and
22:29um the piece work in this reminds me of the building that we saw that had all the angles
22:34i think you captured very well the beat of berlin i mean it has that underground movement it is very edgy
22:42i love this jacket i like very much what you did with the boots did you make that yes ma'am that's a wedge
22:50and i cut made the stocking and then molded it to her leg that pulls that whole look together and it
22:56turns it into a showpiece um could i see the dress because the dress is really very beautifully draped
23:03too i cut it on the bias i was fortunate to let it drape phenomenal really good work daniel thank you
23:11actually i think the least exciting thing to me about it was the white pleather but i love the dress
23:15underneath i love the boots i definitely see berlin i've been there many times i think you are very brave
23:21for working in white pleather there's some humor to that but you know sometimes there's something
23:27sort of weird and off and futuristic in there that that works and i think you pulled it off and i think
23:32the whole look looks terrific you should be very proud yes daniel i like this look too you know this
23:38looks like a young modern hip girl i see also the inspiration of berlin because berlin is very much
23:47about architecture it's quite hard and strong so i'm very happy for you thank you heidi stanley
23:54when i got the cartoon i was going to london i knew i wanted to play with the fantasy for some reason i
23:58just kept going dark we got the sketch at the abbey and the parliament building just from the georgian era
24:03and i want to design something that the ladies wore um at that time and just kind of modernize it
24:08so i came up with just a long column with a cape when you take it off it just has this
24:14sexiness to it these are leather sequins that i chose to line the inside with and uh that's it
24:21i absolutely love this i love the capelet it came down the runway and it was dramatic but what i love
24:31the most was that glimpse of luxury with the payette on the inside really well done thank you i think you
24:41really turned up the volume by being very simple in a way which is kind of hard to do right sometimes
24:48you have to do it with a lot of bright colors or crazy prints yeah but the silhouette is actually
24:53quite simple yeah but it's very very strong and simple i loved it too bravo thank you you captured an
25:01elegance from the front and then a surprise from the back thank you leanna tell us about your look
25:07well my trip was to barcelona i was so inspired by the old feeling the architecture because a lot of
25:15like the houses and the buildings have this like tile work and intricate patterns they're painting on
25:21and that's what i came up with well i think that when i think of barcelona and i think of spain i think
25:28of tiles i think of lace it looks nicely made for me the sleeve was a big eyesore those sleeves why why
25:42this outfit looks so old-fashioned and old-fashioned coming from a very young designer is kind of tragic
25:52barcelona is a city full of color full of incredibly passionate heritage i'm not getting that from this
26:00coat the neckline what you did up here is actually quite interesting i mean there is something here
26:08that could have been actually really good but she has no sex appeal your model today she looks like an
26:13older lady from barcelona that's wearing a house coat you know completely covered up i didn't like it
26:18i would wear it i like it when someone has gone through all this effort and gone to barcelona to
26:23design this beautiful piece the woman should feel hot and i just don't feel like most women would feel
26:29hot wearing this
26:33can we have a look at what is under the jacket
26:39much nicer there is something romantic and feminine and engaging from that blouse a thousand times more than
26:47this coat and the sleeves are actually very beautiful had you cut them shorter patricia tell us about
26:55your look as soon as we were out into the city of paris i started to see graffiti and it was like art
27:03installation graffiti by the way they would draw something really quick and then they posted on the
27:09walls with other graffiti so i wanted to create a textile that was very much like the graffiti
27:17it's like painting with fabric well i wrote on my notes i wrote trash couture you know i really
27:24appreciate your textile development i'm really interested in this idea of decoupage graffiti right
27:31i like the idea of painting with fabric right i don't really see it in front of me it sort of looks
27:38a little messy a little bit collapsed and lumpy and dumpy okay patricia you went
27:45to probably one of the most inspiring cities in the world right i'm a little underwhelmed with this
27:53it looks so odd it feels almost like cotton candy gone wrong i don't think there is a vibe of the city at
28:02all okay to me this top is special it has some great unusual shape to it and i like it thank you i think
28:12there need to be designers out there that create things that we haven't seen before and to me this
28:16is an unusual special top all right thank you michelle well going around new york city i think what i
28:25clicked onto the most was the old building sandwiched in between the glass of something that was newly built
28:31shine new soft old with a little ombre effect and paint to me this is a comeback thanks nina you
28:43captured the city spirit i love what you did with a patent leather i am thrilled that you turned this
28:52around i love it um i really love the cashmere and the way it walked and i think with the breastplate
28:59being so shiny and really different i think the combination of the two was very unexpected
29:04but the risk paid off awesome i do like the silhouette i'm not in love with the fabric okay
29:10i understand you were trying to make an effect but the fabric of the skirt looks more like a dirty horse
29:16blankie what does it look like with the harness off of it the dress
29:22i can see that you pushed yourself you wanted to go more luxe and away from sportswear weight fabrics that
29:28are your comfort zone the dust on the bottom that's a very brave move i see you new york
29:34it has a new york quality to it can i see the the reverse side verse
29:43thank you michelle models you guys can leave the runway thank you
29:47stanley why should you go to fashion week and what other two designers should go with you
30:01i think i've evolved i mean you guys have pushed me you've given me so much insight into who i am as a
30:05designer and the last few runway shows are just an example of what i have to offer daniel has a very
30:11strong message i like how he's evolved as a designer as well i also like michelle's aesthetic it's kind of
30:16punk rock and it's kind of chic but it's all michelle and she stands behind it and i like her
30:20convictions patricia i feel that i should go to fashion week because i would have more time to
30:27really be able to work my textiles and to do a different look that has not ever been done before
30:35and as far as people that i'd like to see at fashion week michelle and stan because i've always
30:42enjoyed their silhouettes liana i don't have the experience that the others do but i feel like i
30:48know who i am as a designer and i would pick michelle because i also feel like she's very strong about
30:55her point of view and i am so interested by what patricia does but i do feel like as a designer stanley
31:03stronger so i would pick michelle and stanley daniel just the experience of going to berlin just
31:10open this door for me so i know i can make a beautiful collection inspired from this as if who
31:15i would take with me would be stanley because he just totally rocks it out which is doing the
31:21simplest things but with a twist to it and michelle because her point of view is forward she's willing
31:27to take that risk so i think it would be a cool combination michelle why should you go to fashion
31:32week and what two designers would you take with you i think the world is ready to see a little bit of
31:38this take that i do of really clean modern sportswear with kind of a dirty edge and the designers that i
31:46would love to see a runway show from definitely stanley from day one clean and smokin lots of vintage
31:54inspiration but real modern twists and liana i want her to bring that feminine sexy out because
32:01my sexy is not quite like that so i would love to see how she pushes it okay we've heard what you had
32:08to say but i have a long chat and then i bring it back out you can leave the runway
32:17we have some very big decisions to make today let's start with stanley we all agreed we all loved his
32:23look i love that he added an element of a cape he captured a lot of parts of london he created something
32:30great for a fashion show he's polished he gets simplicity he's poised he obviously is using
32:37historical references but what we see in front of us doesn't feel dated i'm a big fan i'm a fan of his
32:43too i mean the girl always looks very well put together stanley i find so focused so refined in his
32:52taste let's talk about michelle i love michelle's i did too i like the pockets her garment looked very
32:59nicely made it was so striking when she walked out she pushed herself to show us another outlook
33:05something that wasn't so street casual and i think that's really admirable there's something about
33:12michelle she's very scrappy but tough she's a fighter she is a fighter she has great recovery
33:21in this challenge she came right back on top when she was really at the bottom we almost kicked her off
33:26last week tenacity will get you far in a lot of places yes my business as well and if she has that
33:32in her then that'll take her a long way okay so let's talk about daniel are any of us nervous about
33:37daniel's taste yes because he can be really good or sometimes he can be a little old farty for not
33:45having gone to europe ever he didn't let that overwhelm him and he picked up on that berlin underground
33:53totally like i just felt berlin when he when she walked out it just looked exactly like i think of
33:58berlin aesthetically i wasn't in love with the jacket but it made perfect sense for the challenge
34:03girls i would buy that wear that exactly the way he showed it moving on to liana i have to say liana
34:09really surprised me today liana has the most commercial taste of all of them so when she has to
34:17do something that is a little more high fashion she's going to struggle because that's not her
34:23strength her strength is really in very commercial pieces which there's nothing wrong with that it's
34:29true if i think about the avant-garde look which is also supposed to be very high fashion she really
34:34failed there too yeah but i think it would be interesting to see something from her at new
34:40york fashion week because she offers something that is very commercial that women might be very
34:45interested in wearing patricia let's talk about her yes she's out there and a lot of times she
34:50has done some pieces where we had big question marks over our heads but she does really do things
34:56that i have never seen before so i am every time intrigued because you never know what she might
35:02show up with and i like that would you wear that jacket yes make it work i could wear patricia's outfit
35:11on the cover of marie claire magazine i don't think so it's unshootable it's unwearable you wouldn't
35:17be able to make it work and you're a supermodel to me she's done so many things that were always
35:21unexpected like she does just odd things and i'm like wow she really pushes it she's bringing cool
35:27references she did not surprise me at the marie claire challenge it was bad then she did not impress me in
35:34the art challenge where i thought she was going to love that flourish i understand the fascination
35:41with her but i think that this artsy fartsy thing is come on guys i do also have to say i mean i would
35:49be so worried too chewing my nails off when the runway show starts and patricia's clothes would come out
35:55that it would be completely crazy it's possible you have to take those risks but it's a risk she is a risk
36:01listen but it could be amazing it could be she goes away for a few months it could be arts and
