00:00this is not about a job anymore I'm the investor and you're gonna make me some
00:08money confident I would call myself the blonde assassin because I let people
00:13underestimate me just so I can blow them out the water determined they call me
00:18the master puppeteer because I have a habit of pulling people's strings and
00:22getting them to do what I want looking for investment I've got a product for
00:27Lord Sugar that we can take international I believe it's going to be huge and I mean
00:32business 16 hopefuls headed for London they came to battle for a quarter of a
00:39million pounds to kick-start a business to get it they had to impress Britain's
00:46toughest investor Lord Sugar I'm not looking for a friend if I want a friend
00:52I'll get a dog shameful you let the numbers out of your sight
00:56you didn't know what your margins were sickening that is to me I put you in
01:01for a little piddly little business and you made a complete mess of the figures
01:06which I don't know what you were thinking each week he said a business-based task
01:12tough from the start you don't have to teach me how to suck eggs I know how to ask all that I'm in a rush
01:23it kept getting tougher oh my gosh this seems like happening again we have an opinion and you just don't
01:29make it pissing me off why are the other teams still here they should be gone and
01:33someone always got the blame
01:35you're fired you're fired this is my boardroom and by the way this is my money
01:40you're fired tonight why I fired them the boss explains
01:45week one for the candidates a first chance to shine you know you're sweating over there you're not
01:59nervous sure yeah and an early piece of advice from Lord sugar let me give you a warning don't try
02:11and hide I'm not looking for Lord Lucan I'm looking for somebody who's going to put themselves forward
02:18and show me that they have got the aggression the mouse and the business acumen to be my partner I get to
02:27know these people over the course of 12 weeks and I invest in them as much as the idea the first
02:39task sounded simple print onto blank products to add value but first teams needed leaders quick to
02:56take the risk Gabrielle I'm an architect and I also literally just opened up my new print and design
03:03store Gabrielle put herself forward and quite rightly so because I've always preached that the project
03:13manager should be somebody who's actually familiar with the particular task in hand on the boys team
03:19so anyone that wants to be the project manager a lack of volunteers anyone screaming out I don't want to be
03:29project manager because I'd be best used selling on the style yeah that's where I'll shine guys this is
03:35shocking I know typically going into when I think we can win the task guys so I mean is anybody at this
03:40stage rolling to put themselves forward I'll put myself forward if nobody wants to do it I didn't I
03:47don't really want to do the first week first week's um task but I will do it congratulations okay nice one
03:53when it came to design the girls had style I think it's lovely looks like it's drawn by kids for kids
04:03ah hi hey but they fell down on the figures we were slightly unsure exactly what we can buy do you want to
04:14do 80 t-shirts or 90 t-shirts and 30 bibs we're literally with a design art now so what would you like us to do
04:20um we're just gonna have to make a decision then yeah it's fine I'm I'm agreeing with that just go with that
04:29no one owned the numbers they were all too focused on jockeying for position and basically arguing uh about
04:38Gabrielle not being a great leader I think Gabrielle is just losing control she's an architect she can draw
04:43that's it she can draw buildings and Gabrielle wasn't the only girl under scrutiny where is she
04:50and Katie Katie I'm just getting really annoyed because we are doing everything the feedback from
05:01Nick was that they couldn't quite rightly see what Katie was doing as you're waiting can you start
05:08packing I'm not waiting I'm putting this stuff in it's just it takes as long as it takes that kind
05:13of the message coming through to me was a bit like a red rag to a ball really because I don't want those type of
05:18people in the process
05:24on sales day the boys scored a win can I show you this teddy bear that we're selling today by any chance
05:30charging top prices is there 15 pounds for tourists tact would you like to take Jack home can you see Jack in Paris on the
05:39Champs Elysees from a quality point of view the wrong product won this task I mean it was horrible
05:47put it in so it's a gullible tourist yeah actually ambitious me thank you it was poorly produced in
05:52some cases what can we do with that they had to refund money these have marks on they all have
05:59infections you know it's so I'm fresh now no I do apologize armed with baby clothes the girls zeroed
06:08in on London Zoo I'll handle this one and it was the hard sell from risk analyst Billy Anna hello how's
06:17your day going kind of interesting some products that we made our own design and we're selling them today
06:24today I got myself from a communist block of flats in Bulgaria to the top of a skyscraper at the heart
06:30of the financial city of London I'm shrewd adaptable and have that raw business potential could I interest
06:37you now organic cotton hand-pressed t-shirts but Billy Anna's pushy style annoyed her new teammates
06:44it's like I keep supporting the family and then she runs up and does it so no that's not fair like we're
06:49taking it in turns she needs to cop onto herself Billy Anna I had this way of alienating people she
06:55did so you know in in for example when she led them off on the wild goose chase around primrose hill
07:01i don't know where i'm going here so where are we going
07:04Billy Anna where are we going from here i know this area quite well so i already have a couple of
07:09shops in mind you know the shops aren't here okay okay we'll go on your local knowledge
07:15we're not near any shops are do you really think the shops down here i know where the shops are i'm
07:22sure okay let's run Billy Anna walked the girls straight into the boardroom i really do know the
07:28area quite well and i promise you i took them to the closest available shop well the closest available
07:34shop for the regions park zoo is this down the road in camden town surely yes no camden town is further
07:41is further from london zoo lord sugar but anyhow that would drive past it every day anyway yes exactly
07:47anyway isolated billy Anna found herself fighting for survival this is a two bob outing this thing go
07:55and buy a bit of stuff print your name on it and flog it to people in the street that's what really
08:01annoying this is not a takeover of goldman sachs here this is this is simple stuff right i completely
08:08agree i think it was a no-brainer gabrielle failed to take time critical decisions i was very much in
08:14control i never had an argument with anybody i made sure everyone that was under my eye worked to the
08:20very maximum they worked to the best they worked to you know that there was bloodthrust and tears
08:26gabrielle looks like a bit of a flustery person she gets gets a bit carried away with herself sometimes
08:33i'm afraid but she's a good girl you know she came across as a genuine sincere girl who wanted to get
08:39the job done also called to account research and development manager katie okay katie what did you
08:47do i thought you were sort of missing really i just struggled to get a word in edgeways a lot
08:52and for me i've put my professionalism probably above putting my neck on the line i suppose because
08:58i'm not going to shout over people in order to simply get my voice heard it's just not what i want
09:04to do the person leaving today may feel that they haven't had enough time to show themselves but
09:12that's tough that's what this process is about and i did say at my introduction that i don't want anybody
09:19to hide and on that basis for a clever person she should have shut her mouth stop stop stop stop stop
09:41stop she got herself to blame and i hope that she learns from this experience don't do yourself any
09:47favors i'll show you i'm telling you what the situation is whether you like it or not biliana
09:56you are fired that's a shame but thank you for the opportunity
10:05i'll tell you what biliana actually did me the biggest favor in the world because she buried herself
10:09but i i owe her a drink to be honest
10:16week two next from lord sugar rubber gloves okay with scourge on the fingertips design a household
10:25gadget i'd rather just buy a sponge to be honest thanks sir we have the eco press that is a product
10:32is our product a very simple task i wanted to see the people's creativity here we have a bit of a dilemma
10:50okay do you have ideas that you want to add i'm thinking i'm thinking i'm thinking i'm trying to like
10:54does anybody have any specific ideas short on inspiration
11:07here the girls came up with a bath time splash guard for kids this is perfect
11:14that's exactly what i think they ended up with that piece of rubbish which is a lump of plastic
11:20which was a toy at best i'll be perfectly frank the minute i saw that product i knew they were dead
11:26in the bath water dead i mean absolute garbage that product was
11:34you know what's ironic this water all over
11:37stuck with the splash guard next task for the girls sell it to the trade
11:41from naught to 20 000 units it's nine pound and a penny all we need to do is get them to make orders
11:49and impress them with the product and the pitch that is it
11:59these retailers are open for good ideas particularly for gadgets of course it's difficult to get an
12:06audience with them but if you've got the determination you'd fight your way in
12:09your product does the talking that's the thing quite light as well pitching their piece of plastic
12:16and going for big numbers project manager jane ideally if you were to order a million units
12:22then you will sell them this particular customer was an online seller
12:27no way they're going to take in millions or anything they take in the first batch they stick
12:32it up on their website and they see whether people want to buy it or not and if they buy it
12:37then they buy some more i think you know a million units is a big commitment um what what could you
12:44do if we were to go lower than that if you were to order 500 000 units it is a margin of 225 percent
12:52where are the brains she went down in my estimation immediately there and then
12:57not understanding the marketplace and when they got down to details it went from bad to worse
13:03just in terms of the numbers you've quoted and particularly the gross margin numbers
13:08are you sure about the gross margin you've quoted us
13:13well it doesn't quite add up the numbers
13:17i'll just refer you over to our financial team
13:21completely and utterly lost the plot
13:24do you know when you said the cost is guys mentioning a million units you should have seen
13:29their face that's a nine million pound order i don't want to be laughed i don't think we're going
13:34to go in the boardroom nine million pounds facing the firing line were youngest candidate maria
13:40jane and jenna basic business principles went right down the drain on this thing jane's poor pitch got
13:47picked apart you let the numbers out of your sight and also the product basically sucks as far as i'm
13:55concerned it's not a good product i put you into a piddly little business and you let it go you screwed
14:01it up backed against the wall jane and jenna turned on maria if you're going on here to be fired on
14:09contribution to the task i would have to say maria on the first day she was very you know just didn't
14:16really want to be involved just fall asleep in the car and you know just it wasn't no but maria
14:21that was the reality of it that is rubbish because if you had said to me maria i want you to do the
14:27figures i would have gone fine oh actually maria we did in the car when you were giving out no maria
14:32when you were giving out in the car we said well please will you do the figures and no would you do
14:37them no you said i'm just not good at figures maria it was good when it came to talking and rowing and
14:43arguing that's not what the process was about what i've sat listening to here is diabolical trust me
14:51if you put me in charge of just one project i guarantee you i would impress you and if not i
14:56would gladly walk out that door it was an absolute gut feeling here if jane and jenna were clueless then
15:03i'm afraid she was more than kulula's and that's why she had to go maria you're fired thank you
15:16maria's mauling meant a stay of execution for jenna and jane they were allowed to stay
15:23because i couldn't believe they are that bad i am not at all happy why did you get this wrong this
15:29time give me a credible reason why you should stay here i started a business from nothing and i've
15:35made a very successful company take them on face value that they're not lying in their cvs of what
15:40they've got and what they've achieved and i thought i put it down to them they had a bad day out and let
15:44them come through and gave them another chance after two catastrophic weeks for the girls morning lord
15:54sugar shovel the pack dwayne and nick go and join sterling and katie you come over here and join
16:02phoenix and the boys okay katie i'd like to officially welcome you to team phoenix why thank
16:07you adam we do things a bit differently here like winning this is tom how's that thanks for being such
16:13winners i'd like to put myself up for project manager but katie's confidence wasn't shared by the
16:19boys i'd happily take a second project in the sub team for you and take charge of that sub team just
16:24to give you a bit of structure it's very very complicated this is a lot to take you all right
16:28very very complicated no no i'm just i'm saying that in a positive way i think i'd do a really good
16:33job the task produce brand bottle and sell a new type of condiment sugar white wine vinegar onion and
16:42water please oh it's making my eyes water in the other team's kitchen oh my god dwayne's chutney proved
16:50too hot to handle even though we've even
17:01under ricky's supervision the boys just cooked up problems
17:06ricky yeah something wrong with that something missing the consistence is all wrong it's not boiling
17:13right you see what i mean it's boiling like an umlock they're constantly their production process was
17:18flawed too much wastage there's too much waste from the product we're getting probably about 20
17:23come back to us if the fact was they got lumbered with a small quantity we've lost one-fifth of our
17:28product but i think that katie turned out to be a reasonable project manager because we've got limited
17:36product plan is to sell very expensive at market we all know that we can do it she'd assess the situation
17:41that we have a problem here we haven't produced many but we've spent the money it's three pound 99
17:48a bottle or three for 10 pounds the only way to win then is to increase the price and make the margin
17:56big to have half a chance of winning so i think credit to her there if we need to clear these out
18:02what price you comfortable are going down to and well the absolute lowest would be one pound 99
18:07told to claw back costs when selling to trade michael at the end of the day all we've got to do is sell
18:1480 bottles so you know it should be plain sailing for our end i really would want to be to pay much
18:20more than about 195 i think you might offer something like five pence less and he'd refuse
18:24yeah we we definitely can do it for 195 if you're a business person and you're there in front of somebody
18:31and they're prepared to buy you know you should say yeah okay deal that's different of course if
18:37someone offers you half the price of what you've been told to sell for but you should have a little
18:41bit of a tolerance there we we're left with 23 bottles what left we sold everything really wicked how
18:50did you do that on judgment day it boiled down to excuses it was very hard going into a trade customer
19:00trying to sell at the prices that we was given they just didn't want to buy them prices here's a
19:04man who's in the kitchen business he should have some understanding of the trade how to deal with
19:08the trade uh and he clearly didn't you under delivered you sold rubbish figures i'd be embarrassed
19:14with those figures that you sold i'm not the best best salesman in the world it's not my best i can
19:19sell but it's not my best sort of uh skill i'll ask you a very simple straightforward good old east end
19:26question do you think you're at your depth in this process all these people not at all look it up
19:32he wasn't managerial it wasn't the type of person to grab the ball by the horns and stick out for
19:37himself a little bit being a passenger the whole way through this you've sat on the fence more times
19:41and i've had up dinners i think you guys underestimate me to be honest he made a final claim for clemency
19:46i wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth you know i just think that there's a lot of people
19:50we're who are highly educated that's that's all well and good no no no don't don't run that don't
19:55don't run that past me but his plea fell on deaf ears that don't bother me at all i don't care where
20:01you come from i don't care whether you've got a 2.1 at oxford or cambridge or whether you you know
20:07you're just a street-wide person it doesn't that don't bother me at all i think you know at this stage
20:12of the process you've got to eliminate people you don't think i've got it in them to be my business
20:17partner and i didn't think he had it in him to be my business partner
20:23michael you're fired okay thank you for the opportunity don't you
20:34week four how you doing mate you all it was junk shops and car boot sales as both teams looked for
20:43cast-offs found some great stuff in the skip to fix up and flog in london's trendy east end
20:50pay a pound for it i can't pay more than a pound i think you can have it for a pound yeah as long
20:55as you promise you'll go away this was to test the people's ability to see whoever they signed on to
21:01it yeah in terms of the coloring of it um i think it's quite a nice piece running his team fine wine
21:09investor tom went for quality over quantity just clean yeah i think i think this is worth seven
21:15pounds i don't like it he made sure that they selected the right kind of product i'm happy with
21:22the stock with bob i don't think we've got anywhere near enough there were times when other people were
21:27saying to him no no come on let's buy a bit more of this and a bit more but he didn't he kind of you
21:31know held the purse strings literally and said no i'm only spending my money on the right things
21:37what about that chest in the in in the windows yeah leading the other team bridal shop owner laura
21:45set off on a shopping spree the pieces are interesting is all two suitcases at the top up
21:49here the two top ones yeah the camel side tables the trunk and this retro table here is i like that
21:55suit yeah sorry the chair and the glass yeah the last table yeah here we take them and the four
22:01stalls plus one the broken table in the back as well and the broken table okay yeah there's 100
22:08the complete opposite to tom's team he tom bought about 50 items we bought a hell of a lot of stuff
22:14haven't we she went out and bought like everything inside and like 200 items it was penny can we take
22:19what we like is it possible that we can take the curtain strip the curtains we ripped from this carpet up
22:24some of this stuff i can't imagine buying personally with nothing mentioned nothing gained all the
22:28stuff was free and there is a well-known expression don't look a gift horse in the eye could we have
22:32some leaves like coming in like a path of leaves yeah and laura's less than selective approach showed in
22:39her shop they didn't look quality it looked like they've gone from one junkyard into another junkyard 120
22:47i've got no clear in this i don't buy this shirt on sales day tom's minimalist store racked up maximum
22:56returns vintage hall punch for 40 pounds okay tom's team made a profit of over a thousand pounds and it
23:04just goes to show you don't need any great big business plans and merchant bankers and investment bankers
23:11that's what this is all about do you want to sit down on us well what if we did a deal on it for you
23:16are you sure for food manufacturer jane it was the losing team for a third time and another bad day
23:24hi how are you do you want to have a look in our pop-up vintage store we're literally only here for
23:27today really funky stuff there's lots of different sales techniques going on here at the shop but james
23:33i find the most uncomfortable do you want to have a quick look she's very pushy she's very aggressive
23:39with the uh the customers and they don't really like it it's not a hugely easy sale um for any of
23:46the items you've really got to sell hard they're actually lampshades from 1970s
23:52okay you have to be quite pushy and really try to convince them what about a chair
24:01in the boardroom despite running her own company jane
24:05you're the businesswoman here and you sold 10 quids worth of stuff
24:10poor sales on the task left jane lost for words
24:15i you know i really want this and i work extremely extremely hard the credentials look good on paper
24:24but she never demonstrated into the four weeks to me that she was there that she could actually apply
24:29any of it i'm quite a serious person not a market trader and i haven't done that before i am more
24:36comfortable in the business to business environment i thought no sorry you had your chance she wasn't
24:42going to make it with me she wasn't going to hack it with me jane you're fired okay thank you anyway
24:49thank you
25:02next to disappoint the boss was drinks entrepreneur dwayne bryan
25:06i am a winner i'm a fighter i don't give up easy i've got what it takes to go the distance in
25:11business in order to be the best you've got to beat the best i came up with this task to come up with
25:16some innovative uh fitness regime and present it to fitness clubs and where's the money well i'll tell
25:23you where the money is you are gonna go and try and license your new fitness trend to some of the
25:30countries leading health club chains
25:36for project manager ricky the task played to his strengths is there like a unique move to tie kick
25:42boxing that week because we don't want it to look like boxer size outside of work i am a professional
25:46wrestler they call me the fitness i've been the heavyweight champion of the wrestling world i'll be the
25:51heavyweight champion in the business world jab jab you'll always witness the fitness with ricky martin
26:01but ricky left the video directing to dwayne
26:06three four but you're just wanting to show it as it would be delivered in the class which would
26:12be me facing them yeah okay thank you yeah instead of creating a hit the team created friction
26:20i disagree but i it doesn't mean as you say one person leads it i'm happy to go with it i feel like
26:26everything's being questioned and it's just making it increasingly difficult i don't feel like we're
26:29working together if i'm honest that was so stressful for me guys it was really really difficult there
26:35was a disagreement at every single stage it's the same thing happening again we have an opinion and you
26:40just don't like it no no no no no no it's not that you know it's because it's doing listen people have
26:44got an opinion you have to listen to them when ricky stepped up to sell his routine dwayne's video
26:51lacked punch beat battle fight to the music you say this product is unique have you had a look at
27:00what else is out there we did look at a number of classes we're looking at things like boxer size
27:04very different to boxer size because there's the dance element looking at the quick demo it looks
27:08very similar to me what you needed to do here is to innovate something that had not been seen before
27:14and dwayne kind of messed it up he made it into kind of some samey type of thing he didn't actually
27:20put across the novelty the newness of it in the boardroom director dwayne got his chance to view
27:28the competition welcome to the group frame the dance floor entrance working the shoulders back and hamstring
27:36the other team came up with the retro 80s idea and there was nothing really else on the market like
27:44it the hula hoop working the core abdominal area the funky squat let's work those hamstrings
27:56the groove train working that core abdominal area can i ask you a question when you compare your video
28:04to phoenix's video yeah don't you think your video looks a bit dull i also think the other one looks
28:08very cheesy and it wouldn't attract me i'd be much more inclined personally to go to the one that we
28:13presented but i think you're missing the point it might have been a bit cheesy yeah and that's why
28:17they bought it yeah the fact is that on this particular task the video was it then dwayne missed his
28:24chance to pass the buck lord sugar this is risky but laura shouldn't be here and because he took everything
28:30on his own shoulders as nice a fella as he is right there was no one else that was culpable for the
28:37failure of the task dwayne i personally believe that the video was the main cause of the failure of this
28:44task and therefore dwayne you're fired thank you little trigger thank you coming thank you nick
28:51let's take it easy week six began with a surprise guys when the boss popped round
29:06hello so your next task is all about setting up a mobile restaurant now this is quality food
29:18i don't want any junk served up here taking charge of the losing team fruit and veg man adam
29:26it's street selling i'm perfect my favorite street food is probably something quick and easy
29:32probably probably a burger but i don't think we should go too over the top of this i think we
29:36should just keep it simple plans in place it was off to sell in scotland i keep coming back to pasta
29:44really guys on board adam talked the team through his choices i mean it's cheap you can slop it out
29:50on the trays like school dinners all this talking about food has made me hungry i hope the um
29:56trolley dolly will be around soon
30:01but before they could sell it was mass-produced meatballs we've got this stuff down to 47 pence
30:07a portion using local ingredients how come you got it down so cheap best and best in the business let's
30:12go let's crack on adam he's a green grocer he's a market trader and i think the problem that he had on
30:20this task was he didn't adapt he didn't realize that we need to deal with a quality product here
30:28and he went for the cheap angle each one of them for me that's two pound there two pound coins on
30:35there mate in charge of finding a spot for adam's mobile kitchen katie championed a football pitch
30:43we don't get football tomorrow we've lost you'd be a fool not to go for the football
30:47i just think we can sell anything when you've got that many people walking past june
30:52but on match day come and get your meatballs now guys their pricey pasta 5.99 proved a flop with the
30:59fans meatballs and pasta now come and try some here pre-match meatballs now boys get yourself
31:06some a treat before the match calling in katie pushed for bigger profits hello just um quick
31:14one mate katie believes you should be going at a much higher price adam 7.99 i'll stop you there
31:18right there's cafes around there doing full brekkies for 2.99 on the bus everybody with sales stalling
31:27katie's next tactic was to target tourists right hello everybody my name's katie and before i get started
31:36i've got to ask what food do you think i might be bringing to you pizza no no actually you need
31:41to think outside the pizza box on this one it's actually meatballs so can i touch you with any
31:47meatballs no moment unless i know okay it's quite obvious that adam and katie were culpable for the
31:54failure of the task right i see this as two problems here one is you can't sell and two you just on this
32:03cheap cheap cheap cheap thing thinking that you're going to make a load of money i've had some pictures
32:08shown to me right of these meatballs and i've got to tell you i've seen things like that at the zoo
32:13in the elephant pen on the floor even though on the face of it as the project manager people might
32:20think adam's responsible katie came up with some ridiculous ideas katie you chose the football ground
32:30i go to football games it's six pound a burger i thought that six pound a burger where'd you go
32:34chelsea you're not getting it are you katie you're fired
32:44i forgave adam you got away with it you know on the borderline here okay i understand that larger
32:50because he's a hard-working good salesman and he wants to learn by his mistakes i felt that he should
32:58remain in the process off today i'll see you on the next task well thank you large enough thanks
33:08after edinburgh essex and a wholesale warehouse now this is one of my favorite tasks i gave him 150
33:17pounds each loads of stuff to choose from by rating novelty toys and i gave him a van that's it it
33:24replicates how i started my business guys this is the tan should we give it a little go it certainly
33:29is instant essex do love tan and obviously being in the beauty i'll be great at selling this stuff
33:35with just one day to trade we've got some domestic items to sell to you excuse the feedback the teams
33:42set about sweet talking the locals have you got a bad back steven unbelievable to be honest mate so your
33:47back is hurting killing me i've got a cure for that back all right shout out a number not your phone numbers
33:52girls a prize some hair clippers some beard trimmers right i've got the extractable extendable blue super
34:01mop you must have a friend now has a beard no during the course of the business day it is important to
34:07actually keep an eye on your stocks and see what is selling it's very very natural selling these at 10
34:14pounds each or two for 16. here you go madam thank you very much and that's why i'm called smell what sells
34:21you keep your eyes on what's going what are your thoughts on tan as much money as we can straight
34:25into time they want that tan as soon as they can a runaway hit for jade's team toy insects three
34:33pound each three for eight pounds jade bought these little bugs and we're getting a massive margin for
34:39them how much are they they are three pounds or they're three for eight great okay what i'm smelling
34:45right now is bugs they're going on hot cakes we're buying them at like 60p each and uh we're selling
34:51them for like you know between two to three pounds okay to me i would have said wow this margin is
34:58brilliant and look at the people are buying so many of them i'm going to throw all my effort into this
35:03go back to the warehouse and buy as many bugs as you can get she didn't do that just to let you know
35:08what we've got we've got 21 mp3 players project manager jade bought a bit of everything 10 of the
35:14fake tan 10 of the hot water bottles and we've got 15 charges i think it's good to have a few different
35:19things at the store because if they don't like insects you could still sell them the other thing
35:23but team mate azar was after just one thing sorry very quickly yeah just run through me the strategy
35:28again from a strategy perspective that's a bit of a risky strategy i just wanted to clarify the strategy
35:32what's our strategy now how many times does he want us to run through the strategy without strategy you
35:37know you're running blind into the dark it's so annoying anyway i think from strategic perspective
35:43you know my views were slightly overheard even in the boardroom he failed to make his point
35:48azar just kept budding in on the phone and wanting to speak to me about strategy all the time but no
35:53solutions i don't know you've got like a big long sentence that you say and it's just about
35:58let's see how it goes that was your answer to every question let's see how it goes on all of the tasks
36:03strategy is very important but if he can't communicate properly with his team then he's
36:09not going to be able to communicate with me at the end of the day it's about being a good being
36:13able to communicate with people being able to present yourself in a good way being able to get
36:17on with people around you which is really important in any business aspect i think that's traits i have
36:23which i don't think that you make you that you do jade i think she spoke up quite well for herself
36:31i've tried coming with so many solutions i got to end the matter i was just saying i was just saying
36:35what is our strategy came after everything as our nice enough fellow but who wants to go into
36:41business with someone that no one wants to listen to certainly not me as are you're fired
37:01next from the art of selling on the streets to selling street art
37:10that guy up there is tifa coming out what they had to do here was to come completely out of their
37:15comfort zone i think we are looking quite poor bro i don't mind i think it's professional i think we
37:20should take off our ties run that past gabby yeah pure i am the artist evil yeah
37:28first the teams had to compete for the best works to sell i love this i really love this now this is a
37:35very very difficult science because this is not a kind of bang your hands on the table hard-nosed
37:43kind of commercial transaction leading the losing team urban art enthusiast tom myself i'm a big fan of
37:51obviously space invaded from france i think that's absolutely excellent so when you went to california
37:56where who did you kind of take inspiration from because obviously you have people like shepherd
37:59ferry over on the obviously west coast of this andre de giant and nia bay which also become huge and
38:04that's absolutely mother and here's a classic example of trying to be a bit too clever tom may have had a
38:11little limited knowledge of art but he tried to put across to this fellow that he was an expert hello is that a pure
38:18evil yes but tom's top choice had been put off by his boasting i'm just giving you a call really just
38:25to see what your thoughts are on um you know exhibiting with us well i think i'm going to go with sterling
38:31not happy at all at the end of the day like having expertise having knowledge having rapport with
38:40people obviously counts for nothing which doesn't make any sense to me i actually think he's mental
38:45for going with them so this is my latest piece very proud of the horror oh that's it plan b for tom's
38:52team go big cool look at that when tom lost pure evil and he went for those giant size pieces of art
39:01yeah they were also quite expensive so there was a risk there it creates quite striking uh impacts
39:08and you've got a nice space behind your office desk not a bad idea to take the risk on high value
39:16but a bad idea to mix it with giant size because you're really narrowing down the opportunities of
39:24who you're going to sell it to which one do you want the bottom one while seasoned salesman adam racked
39:31up returns do you want one of those yes please no problem the art of selling turned out to be a
39:37struggle for laura if you need anything or if you think you want to go ahead with the purchase i'll just
39:42be in the area just just grab me again okay don't bother i'll let you have what you think about it
39:46in complete contrast to adam there's laura how are you doing she's got her own wedding dress business
39:52one where you have to understand uh what the customer's requirement is one where you have to
39:58mold yourself uh to get in the deal how are you getting on here like enjoying it yeah yes thank you
40:04good well she didn't sell much on this task at all
40:07um it's it's very different sales well you have a chat sort of test the water let them have a look
40:14around before you know it adam's on them you're gonna get me shot you like you're gonna get me shot
40:20i've agreed it
40:24deal thank you cheers in the boardroom tom's high-risk strategy got him into deep trouble if we sell one of
40:31his items for eight thousand or ten thousand pounds that's the aim of our evening to sell one of those
40:35pieces and if we do we're gonna more than likely win this you took a gamble i think i think you said
40:39you rolled the dice i did yeah but laura's low sales looked bad you only sold 750 quids worth
40:48i can't really pinpoint what went wrong all i can see maybe you're just not a good salesperson i would
40:53honestly like to say that that is the wrong judgment the fact she claims to be a great salesperson
40:59led me to believe that she did nothing good on this task at all it'd be an absolute travesty if
41:05i was to go home today and i took my hands up a bit last night great talker i tell you what if there
41:10was a price for talking and i don't know whether it's talking too late you know well i hope not you
41:16know you run out of excuses in the end when you can't do what you claim you're best at doing i'm not
41:23totally convinced uh that you should remain in the process so laura you're fired take care
41:38tom stayed because i like the fact that he likes to have a gamble and go for it sometimes i think
41:45he learned on this occasion when you're having a gamble make sure that you're not making the bet
41:52too hard for yourself the following week keen to redeem himself tom became project manager
42:00on this particular task what i wanted them to do was to generate interest on behalf of the english
42:07sparkling wine producers a little mouthful swish it round tom's team took in the spirit of the product
42:16we've really got to grips with the english wine sparkling sorry really got to grips with english
42:27wine sparking
42:31what else can we say when we're discussing english sparkling wine ricky took in the message really
42:37the emphasis is on quality quality quality quality and that is the key and the rest of his team took
42:44liberties with the language and grandeur is the bottom one of stephen's few contributions was the word grandeur
42:54as a generic name for english bartending wines it's a french word on the video shoot grandeur is that
43:03how you pronounce it grandeur ricky's quality message got lost in translation you're going to be like
43:10what is this this is not my english sparkling wine i ordered it's like in discuss ricky put jenna in charge
43:17of directing the video and action what she produced was total rubbish
43:25oh what is this darling this isn't the english sparkling wine that i ordered it was diabolical absolutely
43:35diabolical darling darling get him hey waiter i think we do exactly the same thing but you can
43:43click the glasses to each other stephen he's quite an intelligent person and he was standing there watching
43:50this ridiculous video being made less fizz and more sparkle cheers cheers great i'm happy with that
44:01to judge the campaign lord sugar called in experts from the world of wine good morning ladies and
44:07gentlemen my name is ricky martin and our vision is to ultimately make people aware that english sparkling
44:12wine is a quality product we want that message to be crystal clear to people
44:17to be fair to ricky he was doing great until he pressed the button and played the video what i'd
44:24like to do is just take your onto our home page and there'll be a 30 second video which will pull
44:28up immediately so i'll let you have a look at that and then i'll start talking again
44:33oh that's horrible this isn't the english sparkling wine that they ordered darling she obviously needs
44:41english sparkling wine they couldn't believe it right they could not believe it at all
44:50do you think you could go and find a champagne website which would portray itself in that way
44:57the movie was a flop its director and her assistant were forced to face the boss
45:02this video was going to be either love it or hate it i've took risks in business i'm a risk taker i
45:08took it and i made a mistake i know you're out there to try and impress me and i also know i might
45:13remind you of sid james but i didn't tell you to make a carry-on boozing movie i mean i was expecting
45:18any one moment in there kenneth williams to pop in and you know and say oh maitre d you know where's
45:24my grandeur gone someone's nick my grandeur i mean it is a total i don't know what you were thinking
45:29under fire stephen ducked and dived lord sure i'm guessing you know in terms of the process here
45:35we have we have people who actually have an input and actually who make decisions okay you know what
45:39you've maybe had a bad day at the office they've made a mistake and then you have people who don't
45:42make any decisions at all or have no input stephen showed me a side of him which i was starting to
45:48dislike he came across as a little bit slippery he was quite good at pointing out that it wasn't his
45:54fault it was someone else's so in terms of that general who made no decisions well for me from
46:00very simply in terms of the task i think gabriella i mean she's sitting here now obviously quite quiet
46:03to be fair but gabriel for me is um in our team from a contribution point of view it's lacking i started
46:09to wonder whether you know he's a kind of an honorable fellow in the sense of the way he tries to deflect
46:16the responsibility away from himself but jenna just got the tone completely and utterly wrong you
46:24didn't realize that this was a high quality product and you should not have been making a humorous video
46:31in the beginning jenna i'm sending you home you're fired thank you and just as i was about to also
46:46let stephen go he kind of leapt across the table all i can say to if i was a project manager again
46:52i would definitely deliver another victory and most importantly i would definitely deliver another
46:56victory he's thrown the gauntlet down you are the project manager next and i expect you to win
47:01the next morning an early start i'm so positive today i'm so motivated i can't wait to get out
47:11i really can't it was stephen's last chance i was on the edge of a cliff one foot over the edge
47:21pulled back in so i'm gonna give 110 percent the task find and negotiate cut price offers
47:30for a daily deals website it's very simple this task actually it's about negotiation and persuasion
47:36fundamentally we're gonna win this it's just how how much we're gonna win it by is all i'm thinking
47:40about ricky had a rough start so you wouldn't be able to do any discount whatsoever i wouldn't even
47:46give you 10 percent okay just want to clarify that crystal clear product we use is a power whitening
47:53system while steven went for a multi-deal strategy so you've got your deluxe option and with the home
48:00care kit then we could perhaps have a deal for the without the home care kit so you've got two options
48:04there is that something that sounds quite good so yeah absolutely well it's not a bad idea on the face
48:09of it one particular company might have offered three or four different packages not a bad idea at all
48:16what the bad idea was was that the stuff that they found all been done all been seen
48:22oh jesus that's horrible that feels oh my god gabrielle really pushed for the fish pedicure that is
48:31very popular i know at the moment but the ceo of the website was really clear that they only want luxury
48:37experiences thank you much ben it didn't surprise me one moment that the website turned around and said no
48:45thanks we've seen all that before steven and gabrielle they went off the rails oh i feel a bit of
48:51pressure i've got to be honest i'm feeling a bit of pressure here lads in the boardroom a crushing defeat
48:58the winning team came in with 14 000 pounds worth of business compared to steven's 7 000 so it wasn't just
49:09a little loss it was a big big loss the dentist and the fish thing did you not understand the need
49:16for something special on this website in all seriousness i've never been to a fish spa in my
49:21life again under pressure steven tried to shift the blame and gabrielle very much gave the advice that
49:27that would be a good seller he was so incisive moment we're doing this when we're doing that
49:30chopping and changing yourself i think you performed your capability just focus on yourself please
49:34let me finish please of course but think about you yes can you let me please stop being so condescending
49:39all right in every task i do try and adapt myself to the person i'm dealing yeah okay gabrielle's a
49:46very bubbly person i just get the feeling that she had reached hit the wall in the process as far
49:55as i was concerned gabrielle as nice a person as you are it is with regret that you are fired
50:04and i'd like to thank you very much for the opportunity and um well done boys and thank you very much
50:13for a moment steven looked safe
50:18you asked me for the chance to be the project manager i gave you the chance you told me you were
50:23going to win you didn't win you lost you're also fired that left five to fight for a place in the final
50:43this was the penultimate task and so this was a bit of a sink or swim situation
50:50the pressure was on and they had to get it right your task is to create an affordable luxury product
50:58range adam you're going to be project manager of phoenix fantastic okay good luck off you go
51:08good task exciting a lot to it name identity logo packaging any ideas i have a lot of admiration for adam in
51:18the way that um he's grown throughout the course of the process so i put him in charge because he's a good
51:26salesman but was he an all-round good business manager i want to go down the road i think of
51:33chocolates white chocolates with a nice fold-up box with a ribbon on sold on selling sweets jade headed up
51:41production this is like heaven i always wanted to have a sweet shop i think every little
51:47girl he's slightly podge did and adam brainstormed brand names obviously chocolate so chocolate
51:58yeah quite clever choco local um lovely chocolate choc stop i think what's important for us to remember
52:04is that we are creating a luxury brand things i've written down coco coco coco cho cho cho cho cho cho
52:11sounds like a train it is a bit like a train but it's like a chocolate train at the moment what kind
52:16of call it chocolate bar as in chocolate bar and chocolate bars you know what i mean the bar the
52:23fact that we could have a counter in the style of maybe a bar you could personalize the chocolate again
52:29like a bar you can order it at the bar chocolate bar next job for the two boys the chance to get a
52:37taste of their chosen market that's beautiful what kind of chocolates do you do what flavors have you
52:44combined okay we do a ginger and lavender um a mint adam and nick had a wonderful opportunity to meet
52:51a businessman who's created fantastic bespoke shop to help them put together their business model what have
52:57they spent their time doing here tasting chocolate called sweet thing their shop was a hit welcome
53:04to sweet thing giving you a full chocolate flavor hopefully the most chocolatey kind of chocolates
53:11you've ever tried when i first saw their shop i thought to myself wow this looks interesting colorful
53:18lots of products superficially it looked quite good but on the business front it was a bit suck it and see
53:26what have you decided on your recommended retail price 2.99 it's tripling your money what do you think
53:32nick 4.99 would you pay 4.99 for them yeah you know maybe you're right maybe 2.99 is nearer
53:38so what is the pricing strategy as it stands now that is selling for at the moment you're thinking
53:452.99 or 4.99 exactly
53:51on the other team it's going to be too fruity for a masculine product a men's grooming range from ricky
53:59and tom so you've got the shaving cream the after bomb and the moisturizer at the end
54:05just to let you know we do have an experience a grooming experience for you this afternoon if you'd like
54:08to try it and it will be me who'll be giving you the refreshing experience as well as you're in safe
54:12hands
54:15and relax i'm really glad you brought these two fellows ricky and tom were quite dapper chaps
54:23and i got the feeling they were quite um into it themselves is that too hard or is that nice and
54:28soft no it's fine
54:35after two days perfecting brands teams had to present them to retail experts
54:41good morning ladies and gentlemen and to lord sugar modern gentleman is a concept which is going to
54:46target traditional grooming visions and values and bring that to the modern man ricky and tom really
54:53thought up their plan the uk's market is 862 million right now and growing so it actually worked it
55:01actually had legs what we'd like to do is take this outside of the uk and starting within europe gives us
55:06the advantage because the export links are extremely good please feel free to ask any questions
55:10next to face the experts adam morning ladies and gentlemen thank you for giving us the time to
55:19introduce our brand sweet thing regretfully adam didn't put up a very good pitch what we've tried to
55:29achieve is affordable luxury ideal for christmas our birthdays easter and valentine's day
55:40which we think will be our busy periods our target market hopefully will appeal to absolutely
55:48everyone whether that's coming back from the office or just for a girly night in or whatever whatever
55:54you fancy to be honest when you looked into his eyes you saw a man who i think himself realized that
56:05he'd kind of reached the end of a great journey adam i've got to tell you that you have impressed me in
56:13the manner in which you have thrown yourself into everything head first however there are other areas
56:20i have to consider the shrewdness the awareness the getting the plot and that's maybe where you're a little
56:29bit lacking he himself might have realized in the end that it was time for him to go i think all in all
56:39on this very very difficult decision i've got to make um i'm gonna have to say that adam
56:49you're fired thank you a lot sugar i wish you all the best for the future adam and i hope you do well
56:57thank you very much and keep in touch if you ever need a salesman you know where i am okay thanks very
57:03much welcome welcome welcome right i'm down to my final four now i've seen these people throughout
57:21the past 11 weeks and they've all got different qualities ricky he's a great salesperson a great
57:29presenter tom smart seems to have ideas he's shown some great work in the past another good contender
57:38nick a technical man big on the web he deployed his expertise throughout the course of the process
57:45and then there's jade she can sell she's creative very quick very fast thinking so i got four very very
57:53good candidates to go forward to the final where i will be delving much deeper into their business
58:01plan ideas and to see which of the four is going to be my business partner and that final including
58:11the dreaded interviews is tomorrow night here on bbc one and bbc one hd at 8 30 a taster coming up
58:23so
58:33you
