01:35And that might make all the difference in Jet not being able to catch Sexton in SMX seeding when ProMotoCross is complete.
01:46And I think it's going to affect the gate pick, too.

03:31I want to just give you guys the picture of what Hunter Lawrence was right before he went up to his bike.
03:36He was the absolute last guy to get on his bike to get set.
03:40He was doing some deep breaths back by the pro motocross sign.
03:43And he just, it was a totally different setup and way that he approached the bike here for this moto than I personally have ever seen.
03:50And that might be the little fire under him right now that we're all talking about.
03:54Well, Jet was trying to make the move on Eli here, Katie.
03:59Tomex able to hold him off for the moment.
04:01Yeah, Eli, why are you going outside?
04:03He's got to square him up, try to get back.
04:06Oh, didn't work.

04:10And Jet makes the pass.
04:11Yeah, we have not seen many riders use that outside.
04:15There's Sexton in the bottom, battling for six right now with Justin Cooper.
04:20Yeah, well, it's going to be important for Chase at least trying to get up there.
04:23And he wants to have a battle for these guys.
04:26You can see how the urgency of all these, the two brothers, JT.
04:30All right, you know, you see how aggressive Jet's being.
04:33It's very rare that we see Jet Lawrence ride angry.
04:36I think he's one of the most patient racers in the field.
04:38But I don't think that's the case at all right now.
04:40I think he feels slighted.
04:42I think he feels angered.
04:43He's probably got more emotion in this race than he's had in a long time.

04:47But I also think him understanding how that first photo went,
04:51maybe if he was in front of Chase, he would end up winning that race.
04:53So I thought his plan all along was at least start in front of Chase.
04:58We know how it works out if Chase is in there and it gets to 15 minutes.

05:04And obviously with him riding angry, it's tough.

05:51all he would have to do is finish behind Hunter at this moto.

06:04So Sexton is 7th.
06:06And he's got to work his way up to Hunter Lawrence to win the overall.

06:45He probably feels a little bit more comfortable.
06:47That track, that first moto was really sketchy.
06:49Now it's more normal and getting a little bit of confidence staying with these two.
06:53And they hook back on up to the Godzilla jump.

07:25I was talking to Lars Lindstrom about Hunter Lawrence.
07:27And why was it that we don't think he's done an overall win yet?
07:31And he said, well, of course, Jet is a big reason, big factor.
07:34He said, the problem is, is they're with each other all the time.
07:37They train together.
07:38They spend so much time together that Hunter can't develop, like, a secret
07:42or something to kind of pull the wool over Jet's head
07:44because they're always doing something together.
07:46I asked Lars, I said, is there any chance ever that they would separate, do their own thing?
07:51And he said, I mean, it's up to them.
07:53But really, it would go against the Lawrence family brain.
07:55They do things together.
07:56That's just how they operate.
07:58And so that might be something that would be standing between Hunter's wings.
08:02Yeah, they've always said they're racing as a family,
08:04and they're going to be retired racers for a lot longer in their life,
08:09and they're going to be actual racers.
08:11So don't let this stuff get between them now.
08:14Sexton has Hampshire and Prado between himself and that lead group.

08:21And it would obviously be issues, just, you know, family issues.
08:24Because I think on the racetrack and helping each other,
08:27they're making each other better.
08:29So from a, you know, strategic standpoint,
08:31I wouldn't want them to separate if I'm Honda
08:33because they're making each other better every week.
08:36And, you know, Hunter, when somebody asked me that question,
08:38why can't you beat Jet?
08:39I would be like, well, why can't anybody else beat him?
08:42Because the only person that's ever done it since he's been in 450 motocross
08:45is this guy right here, and that was two.
08:47So he's won everything else.
08:49Hunter's running really good.
08:51Just Jet's just a talent.
08:54I mean, he's generational.
08:56I want to see what Sexton can do.
08:58We theorized he about to crash to the top of this hill.

09:32obviously running down Jet's going to be tough,
09:34but maybe give you a little bit of confidence,
09:36especially after being able to pull away from both the Lawrence brothers
09:38in the first moto.
09:41But I've got to get Eli Tomac.
09:43If I get him and finish by Hunter, I'll get this overall if Hunter finishes second.
09:48So that's where his probably mindset is now.

10:00Meanwhile, up front, Hunter still keeping Jet in check.

10:08Now you see Prado, the monster Kawasaki, up ahead of Sexton.
10:15You know, we've seen some ups and downs for sure for Prado.
10:18We've talked about it quite a bit.
10:20This would actually be a fairly solid day.
10:22He's looking at fifth overall.
10:24And this could be some signs of progress for the Spaniard.
10:27The world champ over at MXGP.
10:29See if he can hang in there.
10:30Yeah.
10:32Jorge looks good.
10:33And what did I say before the show?
10:34I said, I think a good track for Jorge today before we even talked.
10:39Very technical.
10:40And as you mentioned, the way the season's been going,
10:43it's almost a win for those guys.
10:46Yeah, and it's hard to mention that because Prado has said his only standard is winning.
10:50Until he's winning, he's not going to be happy.
10:51He's not really looking to, oh, this week I got fifth, this last week I got sixth.
10:55That's an improvement.
10:56But it is, on paper at least, an improvement.
10:58Yeah, and I think Jorge understands, and this isn't necessarily about him.
11:02This is about his team.
11:04This fifth place just shows how much those guys at Kawasaki have been working.
11:07So Jorge's probably riding for those guys at the moment.
11:10He wants to be able to win.
11:11But this would be a big improvement for the Kawasaki team,
11:13just showing how much the hard work is paying off.
11:16Check in with the Monster Energy back athletes.
11:19That is Tomac in third, Prado here in fourth, and Justin Cooper seventh,
11:24surrounding Sexton, who is fifth right now.
11:29So if it ends like this, Hunter Lawrence has the overall win.
11:33Sexton needs to make a couple passes because a 1-3 would beat the 2-2 of Lawrence.
11:41And Sexton's there now, challenging Prado.
11:45Yeah, he should have him right here if he goes up the inside.
11:49Oh, you see that mistake by him now.

11:54Jorge was going to let him have it, and he's still fighting him.
11:57You see that KTM just fighting for that traction.
11:59But it puts a lot of pressure on Chase now, having that tip over in the beginning,

12:08So if he didn't fall, he would have a little bit of wiggle room,

13:33Now, maybe what ended up happening either is foot peg and a speed drug off that face.
13:39There was getting a lot of really, a lot of bumps going off that face right before the mechanics
13:42there, because I don't think the bike messed up.
13:45The way he fell, if that was the front tire going, he would have endowed.
13:47So, nonetheless, as you mentioned, it's costly.
13:51All the points that he just made up for that title, the seeding, it's gone.
13:56And now, will again put Hunter Lawrence in position to win the overall?
14:00Sexton's going to take the long walk up that big hill all the way to the pitch without his bike.
14:05And I don't even know if the team can fetch that from the area in which he's left it.
14:11So, somehow, Chet Lawrence is not going to end up being the absolute worst day.
14:16Not the best for him.
14:17With the penalty, but now he's long gone in the lead because Hunter has crashed.
14:21Yeah, you see all those runs and bumps, so easily to happen.
14:25I'm assuming that, again, the way he went down.
14:28Oh, man, that's a bump.
14:30I think Chet just looked over and said, is that Sexton's bike laying there?

14:37We're going to unpack it here at Iron Man, but Chet Lawrence looks to be headed to a moto win.
14:41So, to review all that, Hunter goes down, Sexton passes him briefly, then crashes.
14:51His race is run and done.
14:54Let's see it here.
14:55Yeah, he's looking around like, wait, what just happened?
15:00Yeah, why is his bike laying there?
15:02And where's Hunter?
15:03Yeah, all of a sudden he's got a huge lead and it's over Tomac.
15:07And Hunter might win with a 2-3.

15:12What does that do for Jorge and RJ?
15:15Yeah, that's going to put Prado at the moment fourth overall.
15:19Tomac would be second on a day we're scratching our head after that first moto.
15:23All right, let's look at this again.
15:25We now have the replay ready.
15:30Uh, wow.
15:31Yeah, now, yeah, the front tire was locked up, but I'm thinking when those guys are charging, they have to hit the brakes.

15:49Yeah, yeah, something went very wrong there on the takeoff, right?
15:52Like, you could see, obviously, the aftermath of that, but that caught him completely by surprise.
15:57So, I, I really want to lean towards something going wrong on takeoff.
16:01For him to be that out of shape, that completely caught him.
16:04And another thing, you see the front wheel not in motion, like it's completely stable in the air.
16:09So, it was already locked up in the air.
16:10So, obviously, frustrated, but I think that caused the crash, not necessarily was a result of the crash.
16:17Yeah, you never see a front wheel not rotating in the air.
16:21So, Jed Lawrence, now with a big lead in this moto, it has been all sorts of shaking up here at the Ironman National.
16:31Right before that, he's looking over, trying to figure out what the heck is going on in this race.
16:39Yeah, these guys, yeah, he's probably confused.
16:42K-10 just laying there.
16:46Yeah, but I, I don't, I don't necessarily think that was, I think Chase ends up going down, you know, made a mistake.
16:54Those guys are locking up, because it's not only the front tire was locked up, the rear tire, if you look.
16:58And those guys are charging into that jump, and I believe he just slid off of the bike, hit those bumps.
17:03Easy to happen, and then when he landed, I believe that's what probably caused the front brake issue.
17:09I don't think it was that one.
17:12So, Tomac will get back in touch with him, and the legend here, the four-time champ, is second in this moto.
17:19He would be second overall in what appeared to be a bad day for him, but even worse with a big penalty for Jed Lawrence in moto one,
17:26and a huge crash for Sexton in moto two, and he might persevere in second overall.
17:32And with the way this day is going, imagine if something else happens, if Tomac ends up winning this thing with him.
17:39Bad finish even in moto one.
17:41There is Hunter Lawrence.
17:44And he's going to not jump, because those red cross flags were flying.
17:48He just tapped all three of the jumps at the top of the hill.

17:52Watching Hunter Lawrence here, and the mechanics in here in pit lane are desperately trying to relay the message to him
17:57that he needs to stay in third for this overall.
18:00There's no way Hunter can be doing math with all the chaos that's gone on.
18:04He has to stay in front of RJ Hampshire here to protect the lead against Tomac.
18:07I suppose, by my math though, he's got a little bit of a gap.
18:14He's got a four-point gap, so that would only cost him less than four if Hampshire were to get him,
18:20but he already had a crash, so you've got to keep digging, and you know Hampshire will never give up.
18:24Yeah, I think, ooh, I was close right there on the track.
18:28It's getting very difficult, but yeah, they're just putting RJ up to second if he gets around him.
18:35So this turn right here is where it all started to unravel.
18:44Hunter crashed right here, and then he got back on the track, and then moments later here, Sexton went for his wild ride.
18:54Sexton, by the way, lucky, appeared to be uninjured.
18:57Yeah, you can see that his bike was dancing off the face of that jump where Chase crashed at.
19:04So probably a lot of things happening for Chase.
19:06He saw Hunter go down.
19:08He's like, oh, I got this overall, and the next thing you know, he's on the ground.
19:12So change of events right there in a few seconds.
19:15Well, through all this, Hunter in position for his first ever 450 pro motocross overall.
19:20Ten times he's finished second in this class, and he's actually third all time in podiums without a win.
19:29The most ever is Andrew Short, has 21 podiums, but never got it overall in this class.
19:33And then Aaron Plessiger has 15, Hunter has 14.
19:37This could be his 15th podium, but it also could be his first win.
19:40And somehow, still half of this moto's left.
19:43He's a monster energy.
19:47It's available now.
19:49It's a crazy race.
19:50Yeah, and I saw him.
19:51Hunter almost crashed three times this lap.
19:54You know, it's not like he's overriding, but this track's gotten really difficult.

20:06And then Prado fifth.
20:08I think those guys would have to get him for Tomac to have any chance at the overall.

20:15And honestly, maybe not even his best day, but it will be in the results column.
20:21And this is long overdue.
20:24And not in calendar years.
20:25I mean, he only started at this 450 division outdoors last year, but he's been so close so many times.
20:33Yeah, well, Hunter's still got to stay focused.
20:35Go back to that first moto.
20:36He fought to the end with Chase, and he said he got a little tired, so he's got to be careful.
20:43We're going to show you the crash that he had.
20:48We don't have the best angle on it, but we'll do the best we can here.

20:54So upper left behind the branches, that right-hand corner.
20:58There's the big left you can see, then the right.
21:00This is going to be Hunter here going down, right in the middle.
21:04Yeah, and I just saw it because he had the yellow-pink gear, so I noticed it at the top of the screen because we were right there in the TV truck.

21:23I definitely believe that with bike bottomed out, it rebounded on him, and, again, the key part of that, both tires were locked up on Chase,
21:31and really easy to happen because of how hard they were riding into that section.
21:35They're slamming on the brakes after going that fast, so hit something.
21:41Man, that was a tough break for him, literally.
21:44Yeah, and so Sexton, there you saw.
21:46That amount of track distance, about 30 feet, maybe 20 feet, he had the overall sewn up, and then he went for his own wild ride.
21:53Just crazy what has happened.
21:56Yeah, Hunter Lawrence is catching Eli Tomac.
21:58Eli, right in front of him, get a wide shot.

23:24Not necessarily he's worried about him getting hurt, but almost tow him for his overall.
23:30He knows he has that opportunity.

23:34And that will be Hunter to finally get one.
23:36So, Chet Lawrence in control of the Moto win, but will it be Hunter Lawrence's finally day to get a 450 overall?

23:52That also indicates how tough this track is, and the weather as well.
23:57A lot of these guys struggling here down the stretch.

24:02You can start seeing these guys sitting down, going up these hills, trying to get a little bit of break.
24:06And how much Hunter and Jett stands up.

24:16We're seeing Jett put it all together to try to get the job done here.
24:19Talking with his mechanic, Christian Ducharme, at one point he had said that he's been with Jett for seven years.
24:24And he said it's really interesting to see Jett mature, not only as a person, but in his riding style.
24:30You take Washougal and how he bounced back and how he didn't get upset about, you know,
24:35some of the things that happened there and going down.
24:37And you can see his riding maturity and the way he's handling these situations.
24:41Also, how he manages and recovers.
24:44And I think, you know, Stu, you can talk about the recovery for these guys, the bounce back,
24:49and what that has to do.
24:50And JT, you too, right?
24:51Like, that's part of the game for these riders.
24:53It certainly is part of the game.
24:54And talk about evolving his riding style.

25:14and Hayden Deegan winning at 250, you can see those things.
25:17That's the elevation.
25:18I think that's what separates them from everybody else.
25:21This track is really tough.
25:22And, man, he's got it figured out.
25:29So now Hunter Lawrence here at Ironman catching Eli Tomac.
25:34Waning moments at the Ironman National.
25:38There will be two Pro Motocross races to go after this,
25:41and then the playoffs loom in September.
25:43And positioning, the seeding, you start with a couple of points to the good or bad,
25:47depending on how your regular season went.
25:49And that's been thrown all sorts of upside down today.
25:54Yeah, big.
25:55And in the way Hunter looked those couple laps, I think Eli kind of coming back to him,
26:00probably helping him stay away from RJ, because RJ has been about four seconds behind him.
26:04So now he has a tail he can at least focus in on Eli.
26:08Probably keep him focused to wrap this thing up if he can hold on to it.
26:13Got to imagine by now he understands the map.
26:15And Sexton's done, and Jets a non-factor for the overall today due to the penalty.
26:21Second or third place should be good enough.
26:24Trying to get around Joey Crown here and put him a lap down.
26:28There it goes.
26:30He's got Tomac in his sights, and he still has five minutes and two laps to do some work.
26:34Yeah, I think it just helps him just focus in on the racetrack, not be so worried about that,
26:39because we see how difficult and easy mistakes.
26:41So Eli being in front of locks him back in.
26:45Looks a little bit better than he did four laps ago.
26:47I like it.
26:49So Hunter's putting it back together here.

26:56That's the area where Jett got pretty creative last time around.

27:52Well, the charge is stalled just for the moment with Hunter against Tomac.

27:59Again, Hunter does not have to pass him for the overall.

28:32Well, a bit of a crowning moment.
28:42And as JT was talking about in the first motor, this is not a rider that rides the highs and lows of emotion.
28:48But it will be the first 450 win in this format.
28:51He won one of the SMX races last year, but we've been saying it actually all season.
28:56For Hunter Lawrence to become this good, he finally has the win.
28:59But he has been rock solid with all these podiums and battling Sexton for the title.
29:03Says a lot about the program, man, because was he a good prospect?
29:07Yes, but I don't know how many people expected him to end up this good in the premier class.
29:12He's put in the work, and he has delivered.
29:14No, he's definitely a deliverer.
29:15You go back to, you know, the last, the year before he won the title in the 250 class, you know,
29:21he was getting really injured.
29:22And, you know, I saw the talent in the talk of Johnny, and I'm like, man,
29:26I actually think Hunter might be more talented than Jett the way he was when he kept getting hurt.
29:30So he kept fighting, and you've got to think a lot of it goes from Darren having his brother around,
29:35Johnny O'Meara just keeping him focused.
29:37And that's what you're starting to see because he's got the talent.
29:40He's now, if he can hold on another two and a half or two minutes plus two laps,
29:46get his first overall victory.
29:47And go back to last year, our XMS World Championship, he was one point from winning that title.
29:53And so as much as we're talking about Jett Lawrence and Chase Sexton and the points,
29:57don't forget about Eli Tomac.
29:59Don't forget about Hunter Lawrence.
30:00They're going after this title as well.
30:01So Hunter Lawrence, clock's ticking on what could be his first Pro Motocross overall win.
30:12A couple of the battles out of the track right now.
30:13You've got Barsha and Ferrandez.
30:15Barsha on the Rockstar Gas Gas.
30:17Ferrandez on the Phoenix Racing Factory Connection Honda.
30:21That is for eighth and ninth.
30:22Two riders that missed some time of injury.
30:24It's actually Ferrandez's first race back in a while.
30:27And I talked to Ferrandez real quick this morning.
30:31The city really needed this break.
30:332023, he raced the whole season.
30:36He said he was fighting the motorcycle a lot.
30:38He has really just not felt the same physically throughout last year and this year.
30:42So the break has helped him get the energy back.
30:47He's riding pretty well right now with Barsha right ahead.
30:51Yeah, good to see him both these guys back.
30:53I think Justin got around him looking at the lap times where Dylan's still fighting.
30:57Nor what's going on.
30:59But nonetheless, good ride from coming back.

31:03Tough racetrack.
31:06Yeah, this is a 2021 series champion in a dominant run for Ferrandez.
31:12Waiting for him to find that old form.
31:13He definitely feels better today.

34:16It has been a great summer debuting on the 450.
34:19Start getting excited about playoffs, Supercross next year.
34:23We might have been sleeping on what potential he might have on this bike.
34:27Yeah, RJ has really impressed me this summer,
34:30and it's a good shot in the arm for that whole Husqvarna team.
34:33They had a tough, so far, tough season.
34:36Not the results they wanted to.
34:38RJ came so close to that Supercross championship.
34:41Went down with him and Tom Deisle and Seth Antmaker.
34:44So coming out here, we never really knew what we were going to get.
34:47We thought maybe we were going to get some RJ things happening,
34:50but, man, he's been solid on this, and if he can hang on to this,
34:53it would be good to see Nate Ramsey and the whole squad
34:56get a first podium of the year in this 450 class.
34:59Yeah, and remember, not only debuting on the bike, which is difficult enough,
35:03but coming off, had to get wrist surgery after that dramatic Supercross campaign.
35:08So he's coming back from injury while learning the bike.
35:10They've had to make changes week by week as the wrist gets stronger.
35:15He can run a little bit stiffer suspension, then he gets faster,
35:17and they've got to do it again.
35:18So this is impressive.
35:19Yeah, and I don't know if it's just his riding style of just RJ,
35:23but normally most riders are like, oh, he had wrist surgery before.
35:27He's like, man, that's impressive.
35:28But RJ, that's kind of what you expect.
35:29Yeah, it's true.
35:30You're like, look, man, he never gives up.
35:32He's a tough dude.
35:33So, yeah, he had surgery a few days.
35:34So what?
35:35He's out here riding, but.
35:37Yeah, he's done that multiple times.
35:38Yeah, he's out here performing and looking forward to 26th form.

35:47Had the prospect right in front of him.

36:19Yeah, but I want to give a shout out to Jorge because looking at the timing, Justin was a lot closer to him the last lap within the second.
36:27So Jorge's got that fight, picking it up.
36:30Justin's closing back in on him, but it's not because Jorge's giving up.
36:33He's pushing that pace and making Justin have to work for it.

36:39Jett Lawrence aiming for the moto win.
36:42And Hunter Lawrence could put two second-place finishes together for the overall.
36:47And here's Jett out of the woods, literally and maybe figuratively here at all.
36:53Yeah, if he finishes his moto a while, yeah, like you said, he might be out of the woods.

37:01You know, it's going to be huge implications on the seating.
37:07You're going to gain points on Chase, but you're not going to finish on the podium.

37:16Even despite a crash, I've got to imagine that Jett's a bit into cruise mode here.

37:42And Ferrandez was trying to teach him freestyle moves,
37:45which I could not believe Ferrandez was doing that either.
37:47And Hunter said he had one of the biggest crashes he ever had.
37:49And he said, I'm never taking a leg off a bike on purpose.
37:52Yeah.

38:26I mean, Chase wrapped it up last year.
38:28What a bittersweet.
38:30Haven't seen a 2-2 win in overall since 2021,
38:34which is actually Ferrandez.

38:38Yeah, he was chugging to the end.
