00:34On the table, a quarter million pound investment.
00:38And a 50-50 partnership with Britain's toughest backer.
00:43You haven't used any of your skills, any of your knowledge.
00:46Mistake on that, mistake on this, straight in the bin.
00:50Yeah, Rich, come on. Let's go, mate.
00:52It's a deal worth battling for.
00:54You are such a manipulator. I can see straight through you.

01:01Suggestions, out of the way.

01:25Previously on The Apprentice.
01:28I want you to create a children's book and sell them to retailers.
01:32I like dragons.
01:33Yeah, I like this idea.
01:34Yeah, I like this idea Sam the wordsmith what about snuffle gruffle got writers block
01:40It's not this hard. I think while Natalie what do you want to know what discount percentage lost the plot
01:46Okay, I'm here to think
01:48Waste of time on the other team
01:52Swishing and swirling and tumbling and turning project manager Charlene
01:59Wrote Richard off
02:04Bart in the final chapter
02:08A fairy tale ending well done McGinn made an absolute blinder praise for McGinn
02:14That was good to take advantage of the situation while Sam I don't know I'm struggling was lost for words
02:21You spent three hours deciding on what they're gonna name this thing and now you want to pontificate again Brett
02:27Wasn't I'll shit you not I would find Natalie straight away in the end your pitch was terrible
02:32Yeah, it didn't go very well. Natalie got pumped. You're fired. Thank you
02:38She became the fifth casualty of the boardroom
02:43Now 13 remain to fight for the chance to become lord sugar's business partner
02:495 30 a.m
02:515 30 a.m
03:04Hello
03:14Good morning lord sugar would like you to meet him at weir road balham
03:18You must be wearing high vis jackets and steel toe capped boots
03:22The cars will be outside in 20 minutes
03:26Come on guys, 20 minutes
03:27You've got to wear high vis jacket and steel toe caps
03:33It's either making something or constructioning
03:36It must be interesting Brett to see if your team can finally get a win
03:39So you're going to die the footwear we have i think el's desperate for one isn't she oh yeah
03:44El's is construction isn't she yeah she's construction and she hasn't worn a task yet
04:00I came in the process everyone looked at me and thought he's a jokey character and underestimate me completely
04:07I'm surprised you're still in the game to be fair
04:10Last boardroom lord sugar praised me in front of everyone if he's praising you you've done something right do you know what I mean
04:16I want to be project manager today
04:19A south london builders merchant
04:23Waiting for the team's four white fans
04:37Good morning
04:38Good morning lord sugar
04:39Now any business partner of mine needs to know that making money involves hard work
04:45So over the next two days I want you to set up and run your own handyman business
04:51There are a lot of people out there they haven't got much time so they want other people
04:56To do their odd jobs for them
04:58I've laid on some vans kitted out with a load of tools
05:01Everything you need to make money now the team that makes the most profit is going to win and in the losing team
05:09One of you will be fired
05:11Now there's a few people here that have got some experience in this field I believe
05:16As you joseph
05:18El
05:19And brett the builder today's the day lord sugar
05:22Yeah, I think it is today's the day you're going to be the project manager
05:25Yes, now like brett l you haven't been project manager so move over to versatile and take charge of that team
05:33And varna step over there to balance the teams up
05:38Off you go
05:40Worth over 14 billion a year odd jobs have become big business
05:46I can do anything when it comes to cleaning painting simple household tasks from changing bulbs to clearing backyards
05:55Can add up to a tidy profit garden clearances house clearances. We can get it in and get it out
06:00Welcome on to the winning team. Thank you very much. I'm very pleased to be there. I don't think I could deal with one more loss
06:06First for construction executive L
06:08Has anybody else got any experience any construction of sussing out the strengths of her team?
06:13So I've run a plumbing and heating business running a team of engineers
06:16I can just about put together some flat-pack furniture perfect. That's all we need
06:20I've never picked up a screwdriver in my life. Oh, that's great wonderful
06:24I may not know how to build a house
06:26But I definitely know how to order people around and make sure that they build it for me
06:30I don't think you need to have a knowledge of anything to actually be good at your job
06:34I think it's all about convincing people that you do know what you're talking about even if you don't
06:39Right. I think simplicity is key here window cleaning you make a lot of money. I did it myself
06:45I made a fortune a day
06:46I was making 120 quid and he's easy. You just need a bucket and a sponge
06:50So we should incorporate that I think that would be great again
06:52Would you be happy to take sub team leader? I'd love to. I've been dying for it as well
06:56Since the age of 18 i've been the main breadwinner of the family looking after seven people
07:01When I came to the uk i was refugee from a war in albania
07:05Came over the channel back of a lorry and that's what shaped me the person that I am now
07:10Because it's made me stronger and more determined to be successful on the sub team mcgim
07:14I would like you to put forward a lot of input you'll do a really good job
07:20Across the yard we're going to do everything minor to complete installations and everything in between all right standard set
07:27By builder brett always leave it professional always go with customer satisfaction
07:32I know this business inside and out hopefully the team i've got can follow my professionalism
07:37Making sure that the customer is always right and with that if they're happy i'm happy because i'm getting paid first put a call we need to
07:44Design a flyer to help drum up trade teams can create leaflets print deadline
07:509 45. okay so what would our slogan be like what is the tagline don't be shy call your handy guys
07:57Connecting us to you yeah, yes exactly so you happy with that yeah
08:02Window cleaning is going to have to take prominence on that leaflet one minute to the deadline l is still working on wording
08:10If you have minor diy and window cleaning etc. I think it tends to look a bit jumbled and a bit like you know one man band
08:16I just think something really simple versatile
08:19London's handy men stroke handy women now
08:22You've missed the deadline for your flyer
08:27Great so you don't have a flyer now that's been completely my fault sorry about that guys let's move on
08:3210 15
08:35Spend the day today generating leads bang doors do we gotta do tomorrow will be the day where we'll bang
08:41Time to head out in search of work
08:44I
08:45Do think that the flyer was a huge huge set it's gonna look bad on us
08:50So what we're gonna have to do we just have to write notes and slip through the letterbox
08:54Can you imagine you seeing a sheet of paper torn out handwritten?
08:57Would you think that they can do a good job with your diy?
09:01The only way we gotta do it we have to do it i'm asking we're not arguing about listen guys
09:06We're cracking on with it. It's the only way we gotta do the flyer. I'll make the decision
09:10Lord sugar's tipped off the teams about two commercial contracts up for grabs
09:16With the knowledge and the experience that I have got it should like quite happily secure the deal
09:20Okay
09:22First for brett sam and selena an east end theater
09:26Is there ever any reasons why you haven't got jobs or why you've lost it to a competitor? No
09:31Well never
09:33That's good then we're gonna win are we
09:35The brief give the costume department a makeover
09:39Okay guys so we need seven rails installed in here now they need to come out from the walls
09:44And they need to then go into the floor and the next part of the job is the shelving unit
09:48This floor just needs a coat of paint fantastically well uh we'll have a measure up. Thank you. Thank you. Bye. Bye
09:55Both teams will provide a quote to try and win the work for tomorrow
09:59A sheet of 20 mil 8b4
10:02Ply okay hold on let me do one of these things that time yeah selena can i borrow your pen yes in charge of pricing
10:09Private tutor sam work yourself sound two sheets of 18 mil by 8b4 ply 18 mil
10:17What why but do marine ply it's a lot stronger marine ply okay?
10:22We're gonna need seven lengths of 3b2 by 2.4 cm let me let me work out this this first can i'm confused sam
10:30Are we done on calculations of materials yet not quite let's go what was the last thing you wanted after the shell
10:36Right we've just been through the specification of everything that you've wanted and the cost
10:39Inclusive of everything seven seven seven oh oh is that the wrong one you just pointed bear with me two seconds
10:46I'll have a look at the figures so if we work it out do you see the difference so we can take hold on
10:52All right eight seven seven eight seven seven yeah wow okay
10:57You're not just looking at um a cost for the job i've got years of experience i'm really
11:01Like an expertise with like an expert within my field i am second to none when it comes to the professionalism
11:07You know i understand i understand well i've got your figures so i'll be in touch later fantastically
11:14lord sugar's second tip-off
11:17a south london football club
11:19i've worked at grounds similar sizes to this for example stainstown david i think it'd be great to go in
11:24there and start leading it yeah aiming to score for l's team uh david hi david sports marketeer
11:31david and how did you get on this season we finished fourth this season sorry to hear that
11:38but hopefully we'll be able to do a good operation cleanup for you today hopefully so all these stands
11:44to be power washed yeah and the hazard line to be repainted so we can actually get all of this done
11:50for you uh for 500 pounds how much 500 pounds i believe that we'd be the right people for the job
11:56for you i'll go back to you brilliant well thank you very much thank you i think he looks shocked
12:02i think his face says it all it was only was like how much could be how much is in god that's
12:07expensive it could be how much is in god that's really cheap across town right guys pick a long
12:12street that's got loads of shops to do window cleaning to commercials and literally just door knocking
12:17them there's a gold mine armed with mcgim's makeshift flyers can i put this on your window that's fine
12:25the rest of l's team look to reel in the readies so we wanted to know if you would want us to uh
12:34clean your windows this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity make me a favor in and out pfeiffer seven
12:39pound inside out okay good yeah thanks a lot my friend ready let's sing what we're doing when i'm cleaning
12:47windows sweating first cash in the bank excellent thank you very much ready let's go next window
12:58please loving it that's 10 pounds today on the other team excuse me guys just interested in any handyman
13:10jobs this weekend to give you a flyer to take away targeting well-heeled dulwich hello we're
13:15doing odd jobs of any sort gardening painting cleaning anything like that gary scott and varna
13:21we just wanted to come around and ask if you could potentially help us understand the market around
13:25here understand what people could need i think market research is one of the most important aspects
13:30of this task to determine which projects we want to take on do you think that this neighborhood
13:36is more about gardening what a complete waste of time these are the different things that we do
13:41and we want to know which streets are sort of best to go to i don't get their strategy it's the
13:46afternoon and instead of knocking on doors their strategy is what standing around doing market
13:51research not doing business we call connexus connecting um yeah connect people together
13:58just half a mile away so the work at hand is to power wash our stands all the grease all the cigarette
14:09butts the bird poo at the football club brett's turn to tender if we can just do a bit of a measure up
14:16and just walk it out okay cracker question if we get this beer do we have to do it for me personally the
14:25overheads on this one's very very minimal you're talking the power washer rental and then the paint
14:30so how many hours do you think we'd need to spend you're looking at about five six hours really yeah
14:35easy i'm not walking away with the secondary standard so if you're saying six hours of labor yeah six
14:41hours at um 20 pounds per hour that's 60 pounds six six is a hundred and twenty three pounds an hour
14:48yeah yeah yeah yeah so 120 no because there's three of us no i don't understand it's 20 pound an
14:55hour per person yeah for us to be here so each of us are doing six hours it's a total of 18 hours
15:00so that's 20 20 18 yes 36. that was a great conversation 360. yes it was 360 pounds
15:08hello hi i was in myself and my team have walked it through the overall figure is 480 pounds 70. i do
15:15leave an immaculate finish and the job will be second to none so okay well thank you guys yeah
15:19i'll get back to you thanks ever so much for your time 4 p.m
15:26for the window cleaners a plan to branch out so far we've cleaned two shops i'm concerned that the
15:33working day is coming to an end from april perhaps we need to think more of the personal diy
15:41it could be more profitable to do that i was wondering if you would like us to do your windows
15:48and if you had any other diy services that you sure how much you charging for that for our diy work we
15:55do 10 pounds an hour a couple of shelves that could do with fixing sure you see some of them are loose
16:01okay it's quite simple mcgib and his team they're pounding the streets they're finding work and they're
16:05getting stuck in the problem is april is touting them at 10 pounds an hour but that's only three
16:10pound 33 each at this rate they're not going to make any money what i need is a bigger nail
16:20mcgim yes do you know what you're doing yeah screwing a nail screwing a nail yeah i don't think you
16:28screw a nail oh no it's my big hole there you go and tighten up that's right that that shelf is not
16:38it's not straight i think they're meant to be like this is that right madam are they meant to lean to
16:45one side or they're meant to stay straight they're meant to stay straight we won't charge for the
16:49shelves are you happy with the windows yeah great thank you thank you very much thank you cheers
16:55hello hello how are you all right how's your day going the last place we went to the shelves didn't
17:00really work out the lady um just paid us for the windows how much money do you earn so around 21 pounds
17:10we charged an hourly rate of 10 pounds an hour for three yeah it's very very cheap oh really yeah
17:17it's dirty bye bye bye bye bye bye bye bye if they struggled to put up a shelf which is one of the
17:24most basic diy tasks out there and they didn't even complete the job they're going to struggle to do
17:30a job that's worth 80 pound 200 pounds i'm concerned that we can go out there and do loads of bloody
17:36windows we don't we are never going to make the money let's hope we land some of these big jobs
17:42for l last chance to secure a commercial contract at the east london theater so we're going to need
17:51basically screws we need a hacksaw to cut the bar in half taking center stage plumber joseph let's work
17:58it out on ply worst case so it's 13 pounds a square meter how long are we thinking it's going to take
18:02time wise joe how long do you reckon it take per one of those parts to make one of those i'd like to allow
18:08half an hour to 45 minutes per one l was made project manager of this task because this is what
18:14she does she manages construction and she manages jobs like this but i've seen no evidence of it
18:20well what price do you would you put out i'd put 150 a day per person she's relying on joseph to cost
18:26everything but i'll try and pitch it with the quality aspect she's relying on richard to do all the
18:30pitches i'm not sure what she's doing what have you come up with so we're at a full locked in job cost
18:37at 560 pounds okay it's considerably high what pricing would help us win this job for you
18:47considerably lower 560 is the best price that we can get to and it's a good price lee it really is
18:53i'm sure i'm sure well thanks for your time and i'll be in touch later thank you no appreciate that
18:59if i lose both these pictures i'll probably just pack my suitcase and walk away and go thanks very
19:03much for the opportunity because it's just a bit embarrassing
19:095pm yet to take a penny gary varna and scott hi rachel how you doing you okay um i saw you earlier
19:19today in the street from their flyers finally a lead i was just giving you a call if you were still around
19:25if we could um potentially pop by and uh have a look at the garden yeah that'd be fine brilliant all
19:32right see you soon okay thank god how have we got that nice to look hello hello how are you doing you
19:39okay to see you wow now my main problem is getting rid of this whole layer and put a new retaining wall
19:48there sure i can see in my head already i've visioned it we can flatten it out the back there
19:54as well i think personally as crazy as might sound to you this is structure which can come down i can
20:00imagine it looking amazing especially in the summer scott is getting carried away with a whole idea of
20:07getting a sale taking down walls leveling the whole thing off it's impossible to achieve in a day
20:12it could be a disaster it's a very big job it is absolutely it can't be done though
20:206pm time to find out if the pitches paid off for brett brilliant you know it was really really
20:29a man i'm pleased to have you guys today a result on the football contract manfred that's absolutely
20:35amazing fantastic thank you ever so much brilliant
20:38whoo-hoo pharrell a call back from the theater
20:44you were just as close but it's still not quite cheap enough um i need you to come back to me with
20:49enough price just bear with me one moment hold the line i have no experience in negotiations so i really
20:55i'd go five to five if you're worried about doing the negotiation let me do it hi lee it's richard
21:00here's what i see we're 75 60 but we will bring that back down to five two five what i have on the
21:07table is 300 pounds how about four seven five the maximum i can go to is three seven five and that is
21:19if your hand was here i'd shake it cheers lee bye now bye-bye it is something in the kitty everything's
21:25gonna have to be precision no messing about no stopping no toilet breaks literally hitting it solid yeah
21:30we're gonna get the vans loaded you guys get your crack together
21:418 30 a.m oh yeah this is it you go like this 10 hours to increase profits
21:48brett's troops hit the road i need a strategy for the sub team you just need to wipe 10 pound jobs off
21:54the list fixing their approach l's team do you guys feel that you're strong enough with handiwork
22:01all i need is the equipments mate and i'll just crack on with it no offense but you proved yesterday
22:05you can't put up a shelf i'm not going to let a screwdriver defeat me mate it must be much
22:12i think painting yeah easy i can paint it's easy just paint the walls mate do you feel comfortable
22:19doing this yes yeah a hundred percent great let's go let's make a lot of money this is so gross having
22:30won the football pitch oh bloody hell there's so much crap brett's crew clean up i do feel like we're
22:37being punished for something selena i've got scrapers down here if you want to get chewing gum and that up
22:42don't give me the crap jobs to do so basically we're going to go water chewing gum brush yeah
22:51did you start power washing sam power washing yeah are you sure yeah
22:57i pride myself on customer satisfaction it's nothing worse than completing the job and at the
23:02very end someone says i'm really not happy with that i can't do the chewing gum after you've made it
23:07wet it's just a complete messy night well unfortunately that's the process in which we're going to do it
23:12you've got a fully sharp chisel there it just might need a little bit more of elbow grease that's
23:16all so just carry on
23:21east london joseph the second we get in that theater i am no longer the project manager you are
23:26that project manager the costume store reefer all right let's do this now yeah quick morning how are
23:32you you okay right david while you um start separating everything i'm going to take hell downstairs to the
23:38dresses yeah yeah no worries man working up a sweat already richard i think it's going to be you're
23:41going to have to help her i know yeah yeah yeah oh hang on oh jesus hang on push it back up
23:50so that exact measurement from there to there of one one seven five oh one one seven five yeah one one
23:57seven five that's in mill yeah yeah millimetres yeah yeah all i can say is thank god joseph's here
24:03because l's the project manager but you wouldn't know it joseph certainly feels like he's running
24:08the show joe yes how am i going to paint this floor with all the dust all over it we're going to sweep
24:13and you're going to start painting what else can i do in the meantime
24:19across town morning morning now set on paintwork the rest of the team so it's the outside frame you
24:26can go around the sign yeah basically everything that's purple now needs to be done the new perfect
24:33already arranging their next job hello charlene and april could you tell me the size of the the
24:40window is quite high does it include a door just a door thing just the door frame we'd be able to do it
24:47for a hundred okay yeah perfect see you later bye bye if we're quiet we ain't earning we need to go from
24:55job to job to job hopefully we'll be able to raise a little bit more today might not be able to use a
25:00screwdriver but i can definitely sign yeah good boy carry on all right ain't it for the other team can't wait
25:09to get my house dead yeah scott's ambitious garden makeover are we going to level out that ground like
25:15we will do this it's kind of on a slope you do normally need uh some form of um machinery scott
25:22maybe this isn't feasible to do in one day last day for it i planned the weather for you i'm just
25:28gonna gut it out there's a fork there which you might find useful tweaking the terms varna rachel i
25:34just want to set your expectations right because it's such a big job we probably wouldn't be able to
25:39do it all in one day okay i know i'm sort of like the bad cop um but we have to try to narrow down the
25:46priorities okay we could clear that whole back bed we're gonna do the weeding we're gonna tidy up the
25:51stairs and just make sure everything looks spick and span that would be absolutely lovely left with
25:56his own devices scott would have landed the group in a real pickle varna stepped and said let's just
26:01revisit this our rates are 25 pounds each per hour okay that's fine yeah they've got the deal but what
26:08will be just a basically clearing up and tidying up job quite feasible within the time span make hay
26:14while the sun shines so they say lunchtime
26:22the seats are it's not an easy job to do all this look how gross this is none of this has been swept
26:29look just don't want standards to slip what do you want us to get this power washed and swept down
26:33come on let's get through it come on we ain't got no time to wait it's not working try and get this
26:41done between like 4 4 30 and then get another job in less is more yep okay clear to go through here
26:50you have to tilt it up at the theater over clear clear in charge of cutting costume rails david that's
26:57exactly where i need the cut to be okay you've got a tape measure in here can you just confirm that
27:03that's the right measurement yeah that's 107. it shouldn't be 107 it should be 1175. that's 107.
27:11right sorry let me just get involved can i just broadest tape measures all right so now that bit's too
27:16short and now that bit's too short i don't know why i got that wrong so if you remark now every one
27:22you cut yeah yeah sorry about the juice if i just used the same one i thought i got it right i feel like i've
27:26had to take control of a lot of this task yeah let's crack on with cutting one bar yeah let's get
27:30move on yeah i feel that l needs to be a little bit more decisive and a little bit more organized
27:36luckily she's had me today so i've got her out of the ship for the rest of the team can some more
27:44paint please finishing touches to the purple paint job i went over the board over there you see no it
27:53doesn't be coming off no it ain't coming off as you see everything everything's done it's just a
28:00shame that i went over the edges you see yeah and that bit yeah because the wind blew yeah i had my
28:08brush my hand and the wind just blew towards it am i allowed to get away with that am i or are you
28:12kidding agreed earlier 175 pounds i'll take 30 pounds yeah off of the cost okay all right i do apologize yeah
28:21go for that okay as usual mcgim did what he does best which is lose us money i'm not sure he gets
28:26the seriousness of the task and i am concerned that it could cost us dearly we need to crack on to
28:31the next job i think that's really good guys in south london oh my goodness i can't believe
28:45what you've done garden job sewn up thank you high five to that sister
28:52see if we can get another couple of jobs this afternoon but at the football ground we need to
28:57be looking at a minimum five minutes a row now for these last two a stoppage not going to be able
29:03to paint all the stair treads because they're soaking wet we're not going to have manually
29:06time to dry them all down how many stairs have you done on that side two rows well that's not bad
29:11so you could finish the painting no i reckon you can finish these brett i'd rather be upfront and
29:15honest with the client yeah and say straight off the bat i'm not going to leave you a substandard job
29:20rush through the whole job and go all the way down and make it look crap brett has come to the
29:24realization he's not going to finish the work he's going to have to renegotiate on price and
29:29inevitably it's going to cost him he's got the right to just say well it's an incomplete job i'm not
29:34going to pay you we're nearly there guys we want everybody hands on deck that's it rich good job
29:43there is another paintbrush there else so if you want to paint yeah well i can't do anything well
29:47just paint in an area there's loads around there that needs touching up let's just get it covered
29:54this is looking great guys we did it i'm so naked 90 minutes to go
30:00pharrell curtains down at the theater but no more work lined up what's the plan i don't really know
30:07what to say to be honest we ain't got a lot of time so make a decision should we have a regroup with
30:13the sub team see if they need any help or anything like that time again how's it going oh yeah not
30:17too bad we just finished that job did you get the full money for yours no because i messed up a bit
30:22didn't i now we're going to the second job now okay you've got until 6 30. how long is it going to
30:28take you good question it's 100 quid job we're running out of time the track record of that sub team
30:36does not give confidence we need to get 100 pounds not 80 quid because we painted over somebody's cap
30:44we need to get there help them out dulwich
30:51for brett time to come clean unfortunately we're not going to be able to complete the full job as
30:56we specified we've still got a lot of water on the stairwells over there and the hazard lines won't
31:00be complete i think you would agree that we have worked really really hard today um we've got up all
31:06the chewing gum i didn't expect you to like be picking up chewing gum did you not no oh that was me
31:13are we happy for the 480 then for the full job i'm not going to pay the 480. all right i mean but
31:18out of fairness for for your hard work to myself i'm willing to do 420. can we can we do 450. 440 is my
31:28last thank you thank you brilliant obviously as the client he's well within his rights to do what he
31:35deems necessary and even if it's classed as a fail i've shown my leadership and i've shown the standard of
31:40work that i can carry out i'll quite happily put my head on the block guys well done well done got
31:45there in the end one hour to go for both halves of l's team
31:50one more shop front as far as our sub team was aware it was just the window frame in itself
32:00no actually it's the whole thing not just the frame
32:03who spoke to the lady you spoke to her about the size didn't you and she said about the frame and the
32:09size and yeah she said she's five foot six and it's above her well it's definitely above her we are
32:15gonna have to charge a bit more that's okay no i thought it's quite a big frame yeah we we've set
32:22a price over the phone we can only have to honor that price for you thanks get the rollers in the
32:27roller tray get the brushes cleaned up common sense prevails i could sum up this task by slowly watching
32:34the extinction of the lesser spotted l it's a one-way ticket to uh out of here i think
32:40the car finder just 20 minutes left my shoes are gonna fall off i'm thinking that one over there
32:46it's got a nice car it looks like you could do a little bit of tlc we're from connexus a handyman
32:51services company no no it's fine thank you if you want to mow the lawn you're welcome to mow the lawn
33:01speed gardening mac so it's all about making cash oh dave look at all the paint you're dropping on the
33:06tools oh no we're creating more of a problem for ourselves than anything else so i would just get
33:13this shit gone i need some help with the weeding there's too many weeds i need help with the bush
33:18it's too much bush no time to kill at the moment oh the door frames are almost done frames around the
33:23windows are almost done that's such a good idea joe well done definitely less weedy 50 pounds yep so that's
33:31100 today 6 30 let's go tools down we haven't got richard el can't even remember me sums up today
33:42isn't it tomorrow the hammer falls
34:01you can go through to the boardroom now
34:12good morning good morning now some of you might be thinking to yourself
34:25what was this task all about what's this got to do with business what's this got to do with being
34:30an entrepreneur well i'll tell you i will never ask anybody to do anything that i can't do myself
34:37and when i started my business i designed the product i made the product i stood on the production
34:43line i loaded the lorries i sold the product and i marketed the product a complete all-rounder and
34:49that's what i'm looking for here yeah we'll start off with you l for your day job you do something to
34:56do with basements yes it's not so hands-on but yes let me know what happened well we didn't have a great
35:02start to the morning initially we missed the deadline for the leaflets so that kind of must have slugged
35:07the opportunity of the roaming team it was gutting very gutting i'm really disappointed in myself
35:13i designed my own flyers and i stuck them onto uh shop windows i know it doesn't look very
35:18professional but i was thinking outside the box lord sugar your point was look we haven't got flyers
35:22i might as well do something yeah so you stuck this in the window of a few shots yeah that's correct
35:26not sugar okay i laid on two big jobs that's right and you got the theater job yeah i led the theater
35:34pitch came up with quite a high cost initially 560 wasn't it correct yes yeah i negotiated we managed
35:40to get him up to 375. down down to 375. i'd just like to say about this there is absolutely no way we
35:47would have accomplished any of this job without the help of joseph he was absolutely exceptional he ran a
35:53military operation right mcgim april and charlene now what happened on day one yeah i was the sub team
36:01leader and we specialized in window cleaning so on the first day you started taking money straight away
36:08yeah that's good your your lot didn't did you know basically on the third job unfortunately it went
36:14pear-shaped or sugar what happened well basically the actual metal bit of the shelf was a bit loose
36:19so i tried to tighten it with a screwdriver and like the hole was getting bigger and bigger and
36:24then all of a sudden the hole was about two inches i did say it's probably her wall was well lord
36:29sugar something wrong with her wall yeah and it's a good thing that i've spotted the problem now before
36:35you need to keep your eye on him in the house i have visions of him trying to fix a toaster in the bath
36:41on day two your team implemented the theater refurbishment what did you lot do we had to uh sand down
36:47and paint the front of the shop right i was painting the top part i accidentally went over the sign did
36:56they pay you originally was 175 pounds they paid 145 so you made a hole in the wall in some other's
37:03place you've painted over the sign in this place but yet you still got paid yeah l as a project manager
37:11yeah she was good okay don't all jump up yeah she kept the enthusiasm going right the way through
37:18right let's move on to brett connexus has not been the luckiest team in this process so far yeah i should
37:26imagine some of you might have thought that this was the punishment that i sent you out for community
37:30service um let's get going then we formulated a fly before we um went our separate ways after that was all
37:37finalized myself selena and sam we took care of the commercial leads at the theater the gentleman
37:44there issued us with a list of specifications on how he wanted the installation to take place
37:48sam you was at the theater i was yes i bet you was sorry he was at uh stratford east and not stratford
37:53on avon right yeah whilst i was doing the communications with the with the client sam was
37:58jotting down all the information and the specification in which he wanted it installed did you understand
38:02what he was on about he was using some jargon that potentially we didn't know we're rattling off
38:06things like this is a four by two and that's a six by five and that's a seven foot long is he
38:10supposed to understand all that no that i mean he's bad enough he's slow as it is deliberating
38:15and he most really turned this into a bid for the hs2 route system and then you went to the football
38:20club met with a client and we formulated a quotation based on the information he supplied was you pleased
38:25you got the football job instead of the theater job yeah yeah we were working on assumption that we
38:30would have time in the afternoon to move on and perhaps get another job then it was going to be more
38:33lucrative in the long run now here's where it gets a bit controversial here because this young lady
38:38spent about four hours on her knees scraping chewing gum off the ground it felt like longer at the end of
38:44the day i've always worked on a standard of which i'm happy with i know sometimes you might class it as
38:49a um a free item he didn't ask you to scrape the this chewing gum off did he no he didn't it's a wonder
38:54you didn't get offering that you can get him in the fa cup also
38:57and you started to realize that you weren't going to get this job finished is that right for me to
39:03clean it all down and then this is your this is your professionalism yeah that's right so your
39:09professionalism drove you to explain to him that i'm so professional that i can't do the job we missed
39:15two stairwells that was the only like part that we missed i would have thought the priority would be
39:19to complete that job yeah and to get the full payment i agree so anyway the camerson team scott
39:26gary and barna they went out to generate leads for the following day i wanted us to be booked
39:30out back to back for the whole day what for the second day for the second day so you've never
39:34actually got any work to get on with immediately no correct we wanted to do some market research
39:39none of us knew about dulwich what it had there so we wanted to understand market research yes we
39:44wanted to understand fascinating how do you market research doing a bit of diy which way to find out who
39:50was we targeting really where the best locations were to go but i would have liked one or two jobs in the
39:55afternoon however we got a great lead scott got a great lead and we've seen it was great potential
39:59for the second day this is the lady's garden yeah scott went in built up a rapport with the lady and
40:05can i just interrupt on the first day i think that scott was very exuberant about what he was able to
40:10achieve yeah i think vana came in really well to kind of boundary what we could do find a good job in
40:15terms of what i'd call managing expectations yeah absolutely all right well let's get on to some numbers
40:21then shall we karen perhaps you'd like to read out versatile's results okay uh well versatile took 652
40:35pounds but they spent on buying materials 121.99 which gives them a profit of 530 pounds and a penny
40:44and claude connexus uh connexus had total sales of 1170 pounds and they had expenditures of 119 pounds
40:57and 92 pence thereby yielding a profit of 1050 pounds and 8p very good connexus at last you've had a win
41:09well whatever the outcome of this process brett it sounds like you can definitely do my bathroom out
41:14yeah that's fine yeah after all that hard work i suppose you deserve some rest and relaxation
41:21so i'm sending you to be thoroughly pampered at an authentic russian spa yeah off you go and i'll uh
41:29i'll see you on the next task well done great you thoroughly deserve that
41:41el you have been in the losing team for the first six weeks yes not a good result considering the
41:48resource that was in your team i mean joseph is in the plumbing business you're in this business
41:55i would have thought you would have walked it off you go and i'll do it a bit later
42:05i'm not sure you can tell about getting your hands dirty i'm not sure you're getting your face dirty
42:09what's your name there was massive amounts of pressure on this task for me however i'm always
42:24someone who's prided myself on prior preparation prevents a piss poor performance i was sat there
42:30with my fingers crossed thinking i'll please help we win and i think we paid off hence one studio today
42:36in a bed sheet after having loads of bushes smacked in my face cheers cheers cheers
42:48my industry it's joe's industry and joe performed exceptionally i just ballsed it up however the
42:54performance of the sub team isn't good enough at this stage for the process you guys got 21 quid
43:00cleaning windows right we went out to canvassing without no leaflets so the best way for us
43:05our money is literally do the simple job they couldn't put up a shelf they painted over a sign
43:11they messed up the pricing the 10 pound is completely on me because i was the one that suggested an hourly
43:16rate and there's davy's job to put a measurement onto a pole it doesn't take a rocket scientist to be
43:21able to measure you do have a tough task ahead of you al can you send the candidates in please yes you
43:44can go through to the boardroom now
44:00i'm disappointed very very disappointed you know when i first heard your story here today i thought
44:06oh this is good because they started off you three selling stuff on the first day whereas
44:12connexus didn't do anything for the first day that's correct look sugar the whole team agreed
44:17that we do window cleaning in your own words you said that when you're a younger person you used to
44:21supplement your income by going out cleaning windows that's correct look sugar how much did you say
44:2615 to 25 pounds a window why did you take on jobs for three of you to seven pounds because it was very
44:33difficult in the commercial sector ridiculous april you were with him wasn't you yes yeah where's your
44:38business acumen here seven pounds to clean a window three of you no asking her um i do think as a
44:47sub team we're a little lost and there wasn't any clear direction on pricing i did try and stress that
44:52we needed to upsell the diy because we could get more money up sell the diy meaning what april stated that
44:59will do extras for 10 pounds 10 pounds an hour three of you 10 pounds but there's the business acumen
45:06again amongst this team here it's far too cheap clearly in hindsight it was an error and then i tried
45:12to learn from that and do better the following day el you're very quiet karen said that you relied
45:18totally on him and you're supposed to be the expert right i'm the expert in the sense of putting people
45:24where they're supposed to be okay what do you actually do in this day job of yours i manage
45:29someone's business for them yeah okay i'm talking about when you go in on a monday morning where are
45:35you sitting in an office or are you on a building site i can be both now when you're on a building
45:39site what are you doing on the building side i generally have meetings with the project managers
45:43or the foreman and i make sure that they're doing what they're doing i have you know what they're
45:46supposed to be doing i have their target set up drawn up by other people when you got the deal
45:50for the theater did you do that what did i did use progress so right okay who's cutting the rods
45:56who's cutting this with all due respect that's the foreman's responsibility and i stand by my
46:00decision i put joseph in the position he knew the most about it and it was the right decision to make
46:05he did an exceptional job i would have been silly i'm hearing that by the way i'm gonna do something very
46:11unusual here joseph i've had such a good report from karen and indeed i'm hearing it from here you are
46:17staying today whatever happens okay ultimately relying on joseph was the right decision if i'd
46:23have got in there and taken full reigns just because i'm the project manager i wouldn't have
46:26known what to do but you didn't plan or strategize or organize anything for your sub team or anything
46:33for your time to do after your job you agree i accept that and what about the flyers flyers completely
46:39my mistake your mistake also mistake on that mistake on this six times the loser yeah you know not looking
46:46great no it doesn't no i don't stand here proud at the moment no no no no in fact there's no point
46:52carrying on l in your day job you organize the construction of basements well in this particular
46:58task you've dug yourself a very very big hole you're fired thank you very much for the opportunity karen
47:06lord thank you
47:23to be honest i wouldn't have done anything differently i wouldn't have known how to even when we're in
47:27there and you know getting torn apart i still didn't know what i would have done differently so lord sugar
47:31definitely made the right decision he'd look like a bloody idiot if he hadn't
47:44well it don't end here right
47:50mcgim you are the sub team leader now you are the project manager when i get down to discussing which
47:57people are coming back into this boardroom you are going to have to decide yeah then one and all
48:04that stuff right have you got a handle on what these lot were doing to be honest with you i'd love
48:09to know what richard done so i won the biggest pitch i know that i worked very hard joseph you did
48:15work very hard and i've got to say in the previous time i had a gut richard for not listening
48:20and taking orders and when we were doing that job he listened he didn't sort of argue back with
48:23me once and he was sweating you know and he worked very very hard thank you and then david
48:28i just think honestly you lack the practical skills to do the job the job that i gave you
48:32a cut in the pole you got it wrong and then you spent the whole sort of hour and a half cleaning
48:36down the brushes when we were outside the shop i think that's a little bit unfair to be fair and
48:40i know that is what it was i i hold my hands up i got the first initial measurements wrong
48:46okay but every other one was correct did he make a difference in this task no well
48:53begin anything else you want to know i think i've got my decision
49:01who are you bringing back then april and david april and david yes that's right
49:08okay charlene he's let you off the hook can i say though no no go back to the house
49:23this was a real disaster you know a real disaster off you go
49:28again he's grown a reputation as being a little bit of a joker but you've got to grab your
49:41opportunities in this process there's no time for joking now i think joseph was right when he said
49:47davy's got no practical skills he's done some good things but his performance on this talks has put a
49:53huge question mark by him for me in the case of april i've started to wonder if she's a contender
50:01she's very professional but she didn't show any strategy she didn't show any real understanding of
50:07business in week one you told her that if it were week four five or six she'd be gone we are at week six
50:14yes could you send the three of them in please lord sugar will see you now
50:34well we've had a bit of joking around about the hole in the wall but this is a serious process right
50:39so let's forget about all that messing about let's hear what's gone on the reason why i brought april
50:46into the boardroom is because i don't think she worked as hard as what charlene did also i just
50:50feel that she uh sits back a lot on a lot of the tasks and i just felt like she didn't really get her
50:56hands dirty and she's just how was i not working hard when i was painting alongside you and i was
51:01literally holding your ladder and painting at the same time for you to then say that i worked less than
51:06anybody else's ridiculous what's he doing in here well i listened to obviously what joseph had to
51:12say about david so he got the measurements wrong on the part they had to cut and it didn't really
51:17seem to get amongst it neither in terms of painting etc yes i did make a mistake in terms of cutting one
51:22of the pieces incorrectly but then i did actually then manage to go and cut another 28 which worked
51:27correctly and then i managed to erect it all and in terms of saying that if joseph hadn't have checked
51:32your measurements you would have got them all wrong i did everything that i was asked to have done
51:36i didn't make any decisions which were detrimental do you think you showed any common sense i found that
51:40once i made a mistake i then rectified it and i completed every single task but april uh was keen
51:46making some decisions regarding the negotiating for the 10 pounds for the one of the jobs saying that
51:51we can't charge anymore you know april mcgin says something which kind of touches the nerve in my head
51:58and that is you all seem to be standing back and not really in in the thick of things i disagree i
52:04definitely get involved in each task i do understand that sometimes i'm not as loud with my ideas maybe
52:10but i'm used to an environment where you speak and you're sort of respected with regards to this task
52:15i did make an error with the 10 pounds and i learned from it quickly i worked very hard i wanted to show
52:20because you made it very clear that your business partner has to get dirty and i was more than happy
52:25to do so mcgin obviously have never been project manager and here's the opportunity that you had
52:31as a sub-team leader and unfortunately you didn't do much business that's incorrect law sugar in my team
52:40myself i was coming up with different ideas how to make money i was trying to think outside the box i was
52:45coming up with different strategies and what was your different strategies well basically yeah i've really
52:50come up with a flow i know it's it's unprofessional law sugar but that's me thinking outside the box i wanted to
52:54attract as many people as possible all at once and the best way to do it is try to put a flyer together
52:58did you not think it was a good idea that he attempted at least i i was against the the writing
53:03up of the flyers just because i felt that if you had a handwritten flyer on a piece of notebook paper
53:08in a shop it wasn't going to attract people it's going to be better than nothing in the meantime i think
53:12mcgim has to has to take some responsibility for this task he did not lead his sub-team at all i was
53:19there and i didn't feel any sense of leadership and more importantly i just felt that throughout
53:23this task it was just a little too immature right one thing i've done lost regard to come this process
53:33is to prove to the world it doesn't matter where you come from i originally came to this country
53:38law sugar as a refugee and i've had to work 10 times harder than anyone else i'm so passionate about
53:44being a millionaire i just want to prove a point to the world you don't you don't need the best
53:49qualifications you don't need the best business acronym skills or speeches etc if you your if your
53:55mental mindset is about being successful you can still do it and if i can do it law sugar there's no
54:02excuse no one in the world i can't do it i understand what you're saying and i understand how difficult
54:08life has been for you and your family and is admirable really that you have worked your way up
54:15in the manner that you have done but you know at the end of the day i'm here to judge things on what's
54:20gone on in the process here and i should never take away your dream of being a millionaire never ever
54:28take that away from you i'm just wondering really whether it's going to happen in this process
54:38it is uh it's a difficult one um look mcgim i'm going to say this to you
54:50i don't think you have the potential at this moment in time
54:55of being my business partner i really don't i really don't but carry on with your dreams okay
55:03it is with sincere regret again that you're fired thanks a lot for the opportunity guys thank you
55:12thank you and we'll stay in touch thank you those who are gone
55:30april you may recall six weeks ago you were the project manager and i told you then that had this
55:37been a little bit later in the process that you would have gone that day yes at the time i didn't
55:44know but here we are in week six and i do believe that you have been standing back i do believe i can't
55:54see you as my business partner so april you're fired thank you david you're a diamond a rare piece
56:15according to this yeah i made that comment no sugar because i do feel that i do shine i didn't see any
56:21shining i've told you go back to the house thank you very much thank you very much
56:37i don't think that i deserve to go however it wasn't about my performance in this process which
56:55is why i went i think it was just we didn't think that we would gel
56:58i think lord sugar wanted someone more polished off as a business partner i'm young and i still got
57:09a lot to learn however i've had the confidence from lord sugar that i can still crack on with my dream
57:19el she pretty much took responsibility for everything and he fired her instantly
57:22wow so then he looked to mcgim and said you're now pm and i want you to bring two people back
57:28wow i know he went white
57:35it's just me it's just me three there's only ten left in that to be honest with you like i almost had
57:40a tear in my eye with mcgim because you know how much it means to him and then he fired april but
