Transcript
00:00:30For weekend number four in the QuickFit British Touring Car Championship, we've come to the fastest circuit in the UK.
00:00:40So welcome to Thruxton for what is guaranteed to be a high-speed day, with maybe a few extra challenges thrown in by the weather as well.
00:00:48Nine races gone, we've had an amazing eight different winners with three drivers tasting race victory for the very first time.
00:00:55But of course, the championship favourites have been showing their class as well.

00:01:10Blast off, good getaway by Sutton, into Hollywood they go, Sutton at the inside of Cavish and he takes the lead.
00:01:16Here they come up towards the chequered flag, round one, won by Ash Sutton and Donnington.
00:01:21Cook alongside Hilton, the third place, inside line for the old hairpin, Cook he goes through, great move.
00:01:26Ash Sutton wins round two of the championship, come on, let's go.
00:01:33Welcome to Donnington Park.
00:01:35Sutton goes through, Tom Chilton takes race three at Donnington.
00:01:40Welcome to Donnington Park and the return of the number one competition in British motor racing.
00:01:52Blast off, good getaway by Sutton, into Hollywood they go, Sutton at the inside of Cavish and he takes the lead.
00:01:58Here they come up towards the chequered flag, round one, won by Ash Sutton and Donnington.
00:02:03Cook alongside Hilton for third place, inside line for the old hairpin, Cook he goes through, great move.
00:02:08Ash Sutton wins round two of the championship, come on, let's go.
00:02:14Tom Ingram forces open the door, through he goes, Sutton goes through.
00:02:19Tom Chilton takes race three at Donnington.
00:02:26Great start made by Jake Hill, Charles Braithen getting a good launch to go second.
00:02:31Jake Hill wins at Browns Hatch, the reigning champion, claims glory in race one of the day.
00:02:36De Leon for the lead on the inside, Daryl De Leon wins in the British Touring Car Championship for the first time.
00:02:43Braithen gets the inside line for Druids, Charles Braithen a first time winner in the VTCC.
00:02:50Good start by Cavish.
00:02:53The Toyota's getting themselves together and Jake Hill gets turned around.
00:02:57Bang, straight into the side of Gordon Shedden.
00:03:00Cavish wins at Snetterton.
00:03:01Big, big slide there from Ingram, who's in the wall.
00:03:05Robottom back up the inside, he's going to retake the lead.
00:03:08Look, he's coming up towards turn five, he's done it.
00:03:10A win for Dan Robottom.
00:03:12Mikey Doble wins for the first time in the VTCC.
00:03:16The race wins.
00:03:25Adam Morgan, Tom Chilton and Chris Smiley complete the top eight.
00:03:30Three podiums for Team Virtu at Thruxton and they lead the team's championship from Napa Racing
00:03:35with Hyundai leading Ford in the manufacturers.
00:03:39Mikey Doble, after his breakthrough victory, takes the lead from Chris Smiley in the independent drivers
00:03:45with Josh Cook in third.
00:03:47Restart lead power maxed in the independent teams.
00:03:51Daryl De Leon didn't have the best of weekends at Snetterton
00:03:53but still leads Charles Rainford in the Jack Sears trophy,
00:03:57what we tend to regard as the rookie championship.
00:04:00So race day, number four in the 10-meeting calendar
00:04:03and the visit to the high-speed Thruxton circuit near Andover in Hampshire,
00:04:08always a highlight of the season.
00:04:102.37 miles in length, relentless high-speed corners
00:04:13and let's give a nod to Josh Cook.
00:04:15He's not had a win this season but he's been victorious on 10 occasions
00:04:20around this fastest of all touring car circuits.
00:04:25But yesterday, as far as Josh Cook was concerned, Thruxton fought back.
00:04:30We'll have more on that in a moment.
00:04:32Good morning from myself and Tim Harvey as well.
00:04:35Clear skies at the moment.
00:04:37Yesterday, though, was absolutely horrendous.
00:04:39It was biblical rain, wasn't it?
00:04:42And I really felt for the drivers out there in qualifying.
00:04:44You know, you're trying to put your fastest lap in,
00:04:47in really treacherous conditions that are changing lap on lap.
00:04:50So they really earned their coin yesterday, those guys.
00:04:52It's important that we get a day like this.
00:04:54Not only is it the fastest circuit on the schedule,
00:04:57but it's also the circuit where the hard tyres suggest
00:05:02that there's nothing tactical about tyres today.
00:05:04They all start as one.
00:05:05Yeah, in some ways I like that because it takes away that unpredictability
00:05:09and it means everybody's racing on a level playing field,
00:05:11all by the Toka Turbo Boost, of course,
00:05:14which will play into the strategy of racing.
00:05:16But the fact they're all on the same tyre just here at Thruxton,
00:05:19A, it makes it safe because they need to be on that hard tyre for the high speeds.
00:05:23But it just adds that element of we can really decide
00:05:26who's the best driver on the day.
00:05:28Well, let's hope it stays dry.
00:05:30Looking back at Snedderton a couple of weeks ago,
00:05:34I don't think I've seen three winners all so emotional
00:05:37about what they'd achieved that day.
00:05:39I mean, Dan Kamish, first of all.
00:05:40Well, everybody wants to win a race.
00:05:42It's what we race for.
00:05:44It's that rush of endorphin that gives you that winning feeling.
00:05:48But for Dan Kamish, after his problem at Brands Hatch,
00:05:50when he accidentally switched the engine off,
00:05:52it was the perfect bounce back to get a win.
00:05:55Yeah, and Dan Rowbottom, after all his medical issues
00:05:58during the closed season, what an extraordinary performance.
00:06:01Yeah, by no means is Dan Rowbottom overshadowed
00:06:05by his illustrious teammates within that Napa Racing team.
00:06:08He's a race winner himself.
00:06:10And, yeah, after the winter that he's had to come back,
00:06:12he must feel it was a very emotional moment for him for those reasons.
00:06:15But more than anything else, Mikey Doble in race three,
00:06:18I mean, he was owed this one.
00:06:19He's come so close in the past.
00:06:21And he seems to be carrying the same kind of form onto here.
00:06:24Yeah, I mean, I think he's an underrated driver.
00:06:27You know, he punches above his weight.
00:06:29Power Max punch above his weight, above their weight.
00:06:32They're not the most well-funded team, but they get everything right.
00:06:36And there wasn't a dry eye in the pit lane when he got that win.
00:06:39The team celebrating there.
00:06:41He so deserved it.
00:06:42He drove brilliantly.
00:06:43And what a win to chalk up your first one,
00:06:45holding off champion Ash Sutton in fine style.
00:06:48OK.
00:06:49Right, looking ahead at Thruxton today, news from the pit lane.
00:06:52Nick Halstead has been taken ill.
00:06:54He's a non-starter.
00:06:56But it's also been very much musical chairs over at Accelerate.
00:07:00Michael Kreese raced early on.
00:07:02Ryan Bensley took over at Snetterton.
00:07:05But now the latest change is a big one.
00:07:07Here's Paul and Jade.
00:07:08Thanks, Steve.
00:07:11Yes, the B team, me and Jade, are down here with Senna Proctor.
00:07:15Senna, you're back.
00:07:16You're a bit early.
00:07:17Wasn't supposed to be for a couple of weeks, was it?
00:07:19Yeah, no.
00:07:20We were meant to be doing a park programme,
00:07:21doing the second half of the year.
00:07:23And the opportunity has come early to jump in the car.
00:07:25So grabbed it with both hands.
00:07:27And, yeah, we seem to be in a little bit of the deep end
00:07:29with no testing and stuff like that.
00:07:30But, you know, we're here just enjoying it
00:07:32and just trying to do the best job we can.
00:07:33Not the biggest decision in the world.
00:07:35Then it was like, yeah, yeah, I'm busy.
00:07:37I'll get rid of some work.
00:07:39Yeah, we've been preparing for a few years.
00:07:42So, yeah, glad to be back on the grid.
00:07:43And, yeah, we're just, like I say,
00:07:45just trying to do the best job we can.
00:07:46And, like I say, when the opportunity came
00:07:48in such a great car to come in early,
00:07:51you know, it was an easy decision.
00:07:54What keeps bringing you back to this paddock,
00:07:57specifically British Touring Cars?
00:07:58Obviously, you've done Clio Carp and support paddock stuff.
00:08:01But you keep coming back to British Touring Cars.
00:08:03What is it about this grid that wants you to return
00:08:06and make your mark on it?
00:08:08It's just the racing, you know.
00:08:09For me, there's never been any other dream
00:08:11apart from racing the British Touring Cars
00:08:13and, you know, to one day be champion,
00:08:15which is, you know, everyone's dream
00:08:17who's on the grid at the minute.
00:08:18So, you know, for me, I've had a few years out
00:08:20just doing some bits and bobs of different racing.
00:08:23But the focus every year and the, you know,
00:08:26the routine every year was to try and get back on the grid.
00:08:28And finally, this year, we made it happen.
00:08:30So, just glad to be back.
00:08:31And with Thruxton, obviously, being one of those circuits
00:08:33that every driver sort of has to hold their breath
00:08:35when they drive around at full pace,
00:08:37was there anything, although you couldn't do track time,
00:08:39was there anything in preparation you did
00:08:41to give yourself the best chance this weekend?
00:08:43Yeah, you know, I've been working hard on the sim,
00:08:45you know, working through it with my engineer,
00:08:47just onboard footage and just really going for it like that way
00:08:49because, yeah, we've had no track time at all
00:08:52since 2021 in a British Touring Car.
00:08:55So, for me, it's been a case of just get back out
00:08:58and just do the best job we can.
00:08:59Top work.
00:09:00Well, we wish you all the best, Senna,
00:09:02and I'm sure you'll fly around here.
00:09:03Have a good one today, mate.
00:09:04Cheers, thank you.
00:09:05Back to you guys.
00:09:06He's a huge talent.
00:09:07Great to have him back in the Championship.
00:09:09Yeah, absolutely.
00:09:10He's hated being away.
00:09:11He's been itching at the bit to get back in the car.
00:09:14And as we'll see in our upcoming qualifying report,
00:09:17he was straight on the pace.
00:09:18Yeah, and alongside Tom Ingram, Tom Chilton,
00:09:20that's a pretty powerful line-up at Team Virtue now.
00:09:23Yeah, it is.
00:09:23They're punching, aren't they, now?
00:09:25They're a big team.
00:09:25They've got to go up against the West Surrey's.
00:09:27They've got to go up against the Alliance Racing's.
00:09:29And actually, the more you have in the team
00:09:31who are race winners, the better.
00:09:33Yeah, and behind us, of course,
00:09:34we've got Championship leader Ash Sutton.
00:09:36He's had a busy couple of weeks.
00:09:38He was at Monza last weekend in the World GT Challenge.
00:09:42It's important that a driver like this
00:09:44diversifies as much as he can.
00:09:46I love to see versatility in a driver.
00:09:48You know, he's gone from a front-wheel-drive touring car
00:09:50to a rear-wheel-drive GT3 car,
00:09:54and he was immediately quick.
00:09:55He was on the pace throughout.
00:09:57Bar some ill-fortune in the race,
00:09:59they'd have got a better result.
00:10:00But it's great to see him diversifying a little bit.
00:10:03I think he wants to do a little bit more
00:10:04as a part programme alongside his touring car racing.
00:10:07But it's also with one eye on the future.
00:10:09Yeah, well, let's see how he managed to diversify yesterday.
00:10:12Conditions in qualifying were absolutely appalling
00:10:15and David Addison reports on how everyone got on.
00:10:20Take the fastest circuit in the UK,
00:10:22add in very heavy rain,
00:10:24and you get a qualifying session full of drama.
00:10:27That was the story of Saturday at Thruxton.
00:10:30After Ash Sutton and Chris Smiley
00:10:32had topped the two free practice sessions,
00:10:34qualifying looked wide open,
00:10:36but the forecast rain arrived in the minutes
00:10:38before the green flag to soak the circuit.
00:10:40This was a session to test the brave,
00:10:42and as the weather worsened through Q1,
00:10:45it was the second group which copped for the worst of the weather,
00:10:48and Adam Morgan had a couple of spins,
00:10:50as did Nicholas Hamilton.
00:10:52However, the real casualty was the king of Thruxton himself,
00:10:55as Josh Cook had a major off at the back of the circuit
00:10:58that led to a badly damaged car and a trip to A&E.
00:11:02An all-nighter from One Motorsport
00:11:04should have him back on track today.
00:11:06Others who struggled in Q2
00:11:08were Gordon Shedden and Dan Rowbottom,
00:11:10who went out, as did Charles Rainford,
00:11:12who suffered minor damage after an off
00:11:13towards the end of the session.
00:11:15Reigning champion Jake Hill went out as well,
00:11:18his BMW suffering from the lack of traction
00:11:20that the rear-wheel drive cars had
00:11:22compared to the front-wheel drive machinery.
00:11:24But there were some good news stories along the way.
00:11:27Step forward, Senna Proctor,
00:11:29in his first British Touring Car Championship event since 2021,
00:11:33who secured sixth and may have gone even better,
00:11:35but for the electronics, almost drowning late in the session.
00:11:38Or James Dawlin's Toyota Corolla,
00:11:40fifth, his best qualifying effort of the season,
00:11:42and a massive boost to the beleaguered
00:11:44Toyota Gazoo Racing UK squad.
00:11:46Fourth was Snetterton winner Mikey Doble,
00:11:49his Vauxhall Astra looking compliant in the wet,
00:11:51while Goodyear Wingfoot Award leader Dan Camish
00:11:53backed third in his Ford Focus.
00:11:56It was a tough session.
00:11:57I think I had a really good car.
00:11:59Probably, you know, sometimes you look back and qualify
00:12:01and think you've run the net of that,
00:12:02and you really...
00:12:03I think I probably maybe...
00:12:04Not a laugh that I'm going to look back and go,
00:12:06you know what, you did it, that was everything.
00:12:07I think there might have been something else in it.
00:12:10Second was Tom Ingram,
00:12:11his Hyundai looking better in the full wet conditions
00:12:13than in previous seasons,
00:12:15and it was a relieved Ingram who lines up second.
00:12:17The weakness of the car was always the wet.
00:12:20Seemingly, we're all right with that now.
00:12:22So it's a nice place to be.
00:12:23I'm really pleased.
00:12:24And so to pole,
00:12:26a third from four for Napa Rating UK
00:12:27and a first of the season for Ash Sutton.
00:12:30He had a massive slide early in the session
00:12:32that topped every element of qualifying
00:12:34for career pole 14.
00:12:37You've just got to take the brave pill,
00:12:39put the trust in the car,
00:12:40put the trust in your ability
00:12:41and deliver,
00:12:42and we did exactly that.
00:12:43So Ash Sutton has done it again
00:12:46and with only one second of boost per lap.
00:12:49But that was in the wet
00:12:50when perhaps the extra boost mattered little.
00:12:53Today, however, in the dry,
00:12:55on the fastest circuit in the UK,
00:12:57it could be a completely different story altogether.
00:13:00New weather,
00:13:01new day,
00:13:02new chapter.
00:13:03Time to go racing.
00:13:04Well, it was an extraordinary day yesterday
00:13:09and Jade and Paul have joined us now.
00:13:11It was a bit marginal that session,
00:13:13but what Ash Sutton showed
00:13:14in grabbing pole position
00:13:16in the manner he did was extraordinary.
00:13:18Yeah, I don't think we could have actually
00:13:19raced in those conditions
00:13:20because visibility would have been just too bad.
00:13:22But in qualifying,
00:13:23you can find yourself a gap and do it.
00:13:25But as much as I love driving in the wet
00:13:27and I love Thruxton,
00:13:28I wouldn't have swapped places with them yesterday.
00:13:30That was really sketchy.
00:13:32The biggest moment, of course,
00:13:33was for Josh Cook.
00:13:34What's the news today?
00:13:35How is he?
00:13:36Yeah, all good.
00:13:36The token medical team advised him
00:13:38to go to A&E and just have an x-ray.
00:13:41But yeah, all clear.
00:13:42Good and ready to go today
00:13:44and raring to get some points on the board
00:13:46and have a result.
00:13:47I mean, as we see,
00:13:48it was a fairly hefty impact,
00:13:50but the team have done an amazing job as well
00:13:53to get the car out.
00:13:53So driver and car are ready to go
00:13:55for three races today.
00:13:57Yeah, great effort from the team, Paul.
00:13:58I mean, they've worked through the night
00:13:59to get that car ready.
00:14:02He worked through the night
00:14:02to get the driver ready as well.
00:14:04Yeah, exactly.
00:14:04Big damage.
00:14:05Me and Jay were just talking off air about that.
00:14:07Some of the damage sounded absolutely horrific
00:14:09and the One Motorsport crew
00:14:11have done an amazing job
00:14:12and good that Josh is going to get back in
00:14:14and he'll be there or thereabouts.
00:14:17Senna Proctor,
00:14:18who you were talking to a short time ago,
00:14:20I mean, he's straight out of the box and quick.
00:14:22Absolutely.
00:14:22I mean, I was teammates with Senna
00:14:23in my first full season
00:14:25in British Touring Cars
00:14:26and he's always been on the pace.
00:14:28He's a good driver,
00:14:29but to do it here at Thruxton,
00:14:31just to jump in the car with no testing
00:14:33and in those conditions
00:14:34when the free practice sessions weren't wet either
00:14:36was impressive and really, really good.
00:14:38It's obviously got a good solid car underneath him
00:14:40and, you know,
00:14:41he's doing a really good job initially.
00:14:44And that was in the wet.
00:14:45What do you expect from him
00:14:46in the three races today?
00:14:49Well, he did get the free practice too
00:14:51under his belt,
00:14:52so he's got a feel for the car in the dry.
00:14:54I think he'll be straight there.
00:14:55He's dialed into it.
00:14:56He's not used this turbo boost before,
00:14:58so he's got to work out
00:14:59when to use that in racing.
00:15:01But pace-wise,
00:15:02I think he'll be straight there.
00:15:04Sutton and Ingram,
00:15:04what a front row.
00:15:05What's going to happen?
00:15:06Oh, it's going to be absolutely wild.
00:15:09Ingram's going to be fast.
00:15:10He's always quick from the get-go
00:15:12and I think with that saloon-shaped car
00:15:14as well with the aero,
00:15:15I think he's really going to trouble Ash,
00:15:17but I'm looking forward to some big scraps.
00:15:19Early doors, watch out for Ingram.
00:15:21He will go for it out the back.
00:15:22Another good qualifying performance
00:15:24which we must highlight as well,
00:15:25James Dolan.
00:15:26Absolutely.
00:15:27He's always had the pace.
00:15:28He keeps knocking on the door.
00:15:29In the races, he moves up
00:15:30and he shows promise.
00:15:31But yesterday was really, really good showing,
00:15:33especially around here,
00:15:34like we keep saying,
00:15:35with the weather conditions
00:15:35and this nature of circuit.
00:15:37He's really impressing within that team.
00:15:39He does it quite quietly.
00:15:40He's always been one of those people
00:15:42that just works very hard,
00:15:43always got the pace underneath him.
00:15:45And slowly now,
00:15:46we're starting to see his true talent
00:15:47underneath that sort of rookie-ish element
00:15:50to his first debut season.
00:15:52OK, I think we can hear from him.
00:15:53We were talking with James
00:15:54a little bit earlier today.
00:15:57James, a fantastic qualifying result
00:15:59for you yesterday, P5,
00:16:01in what was a fairly tricky,
00:16:03should we say,
00:16:05understatement session.
00:16:06Yeah, it was horrendous.
00:16:07I think Ash summed it up well
00:16:09after his qualifying,
00:16:10where he said,
00:16:10I just don't want to do that again.
00:16:12And I share that.
00:16:13Yeah, it was nice to get a proper wet run.
00:16:17That was my first time in the wet,
00:16:18in the touring car properly.
00:16:19First time at Thruxton in the wet.
00:16:21And so, yeah, it was an eye-opener.
00:16:23But I think it just evens it out
00:16:25for everybody, doesn't it,
00:16:25when it's wet.
00:16:26So I was happy to come away with P5.
00:16:28Well, first time in the top six.
00:16:30I mean, last time out at Sunediton
00:16:31was your first time in the top 10.
00:16:32So obviously making moves
00:16:34in the right direction.
00:16:35Do you feel that you're finding your feet
00:16:36in the touring cars now?
00:16:38Yeah, I mean, everyone knows
00:16:39it's very, very competitive.
00:16:41And for me, coming from rear-wheel drive
00:16:42and GT cars,
00:16:43it's kind of starting from scratch again
00:16:46to a degree.
00:16:47But yeah, I've used the experience
00:16:49of Toyota Gazoo racing
00:16:50and my teammates, you know,
00:16:51Gordon and Aaron in the team,
00:16:53there's a lot of experience there.
00:16:54So every time I get in, I'm learning.
00:16:56But at the same point,
00:16:57I'm competitive.
00:16:59I want to be at the front.
00:17:00So I'm kind of impatient with that.
00:17:01So yeah, it's nice to be now up in the fight.
00:17:05And every race, we've kind of made progress.
00:17:07So at Sunediton,
00:17:08we found a bit in the set-up
00:17:09and managed to qualify P10.
00:17:12But then had some reliability issues
00:17:14during the races
00:17:14and so didn't get the results.
00:17:16So hopefully all that's out of the way
00:17:19for this weekend now
00:17:19and we can try and get on the podium.
00:17:23James Dolan, who starts on row three
00:17:25for Toyota.
00:17:27This is the timetable for the day.
00:17:29Today's action, round 10
00:17:30of the British Touring Car Championship.
00:17:32That's at 11.45, coming up shortly
00:17:34and they're back on track
00:17:35at 2.35 and five past five.
00:17:39And also support racing
00:17:40for two mini-challenge
00:17:42for British Championship,
00:17:43Porsche Carrera Cup as well.
00:17:45After the break,
00:17:46we'll continue our build-up
00:17:47to the first race of the day.
00:17:49We'll turn our attention
00:17:50to the Jack Sears champion,
00:17:51Mikey Doble,
00:17:52and his PowerMax racing team
00:17:54as we chart a driver
00:17:55and a team firmly on the rise
00:17:58after some very tough times.
00:18:11Thruxton, not only a fast circuit,
00:18:12but the food is good as well
00:18:14and it's a great spectator circuit as well,
00:18:16especially with the addition
00:18:17of the new Woodham Hill viewing area.
00:18:20They're going to see some great action
00:18:21there in a few minutes.
00:18:22Mikey Doble, popular figure in the pit lane,
00:18:24re-signing for PowerMax Racing
00:18:26after winning the Jack Sears trophy last year.
00:18:29Two weeks ago at Snedderton,
00:18:30he claimed his first touring car race victory.
00:18:34It's been a challenging time
00:18:35for both driver and team,
00:18:36but they're now coming out on top.
00:18:43Mikey Doble wins
00:18:45for the first time in the BTCC.
00:18:47To be able to have that accolade now
00:18:49as a British touring car winner.
00:18:51I wasn't aware of what was ahead of me,
00:18:55like when I came into the pits
00:18:56and experiencing the team
00:18:58all standing at the front of the car
00:19:00and seeing what it means to them
00:19:01and, you know, the family.
00:19:05It was a moment of just sheer elation
00:19:08and kind of,
00:19:09what do I do next?
00:19:10You know, it's just like,
00:19:11I've got to jump up and down
00:19:12and scream like everyone else does on the telly.
00:19:14There was definitely moments
00:19:19in those closing laps there
00:19:21where my head flashed back
00:19:22to Alton Park last year
00:19:23and thought,
00:19:24yeah, this is going to happen all over again.
00:19:26Jake Hill's going to go through.
00:19:27Jake Hill takes the lead,
00:19:28coming out of his lockstep
00:19:29on the last lap of the race.
00:19:31I just said to myself,
00:19:33look, I can just give it the best I've got.
00:19:35Don't make any mistakes.
00:19:37Make him go around the long way.
00:19:38And on this occasion, it was enough.
00:19:40You come from a long line of races
00:19:42on both two and four wheels.
00:19:44Motorsport has been our main thing as a family
00:19:47for over 50 years, you know.
00:19:50So my granddad, he did race bikes
00:19:53and then my dad very much followed in his footsteps
00:19:55and started racing in the Grand Prix karting.
00:19:58He raced single-seaters, won at that.
00:20:00He raced in the V6 Euro Car Championship,
00:20:02which many super-touring fans, I'm sure, remember
00:20:05was kind of a, you know,
00:20:07the next best thing, I guess, to BTCC back in the 90s.
00:20:11So he raced that for a number of years,
00:20:12had a lot of success, enjoyed it.
00:20:14And then went on to also race on the Toka package
00:20:16in Seat Cupra Cup.
00:20:20What's great about sort of Mikey
00:20:21and all of his family,
00:20:22they're all so passionate about it.
00:20:24The whole family, it means so much to them all.
00:20:26They all come along.
00:20:27They're all incredibly supportive.
00:20:29Mikey's very reserved in terms of approaches,
00:20:32everything with such a level head.
00:20:33You know, I don't think I've ever seen him angry
00:20:36in any way, shape or form,
00:20:37or even close to it.
00:20:38So if he does feel that, he hides it very well.
00:20:42My other sport growing up was golf.
00:20:45From the age of about 13,
00:20:46I was pretty much playing full-time,
00:20:48you know, school holidays and that after school.
00:20:51My mum would pick me up from school
00:20:52and take me straight up the golf club
00:20:54and I'd play around.
00:20:55And, you know, I got to a level where
00:20:57I was just about ready to turn pro, really.
00:21:01I'm glad I didn't in the end,
00:21:02otherwise I wouldn't be here now.
00:21:04But I kind of get a lot of my mental strength
00:21:06and level-headedness from golf.
00:21:09You know, I've really had to earn my stripes
00:21:11in the championship to get to the point
00:21:13where we're now fighting for overall wins
00:21:15and overall podiums.
00:21:17But we're certainly reaping the benefit now
00:21:20of the hard work that we've put in
00:21:21over the last couple of years
00:21:23to push ourselves forward.
00:21:27What a waste of a great golf career.
00:21:30We're very jealous of that.
00:21:31Yeah, well, it's a moment to talk about
00:21:33Mikey and Power Max in a moment.
00:21:35Let's just have a quick word with Alan Gow,
00:21:37the boss here.
00:21:38Alan, how satisfied are you
00:21:40to see these blue skies above?
00:21:42It's fantastic after yesterday.
00:21:45Anything's better than yesterday.
00:21:46So great crowd, great weather.
00:21:49It's all good.
00:21:50And what are you expecting from the action?
00:21:51Out there on the circuit?
00:21:53Hopefully a lot.
00:21:54But I'm sure the drivers don't want to hear that either.
00:21:57I don't know.
00:21:58It's always good, fast, close racing around here.
00:22:02Who knows what it'll deliver
00:22:03because we haven't seen how quick those cars will go
00:22:06because we haven't had qualifying in the dry.
00:22:08So it'll be interesting.
00:22:10Yeah, track limits all under control.
00:22:12Oh, they're never under control, Steve.
00:22:15We'd have to talk to drivers about that.
00:22:17No, look, we've invested a lot of time and money
00:22:19in trying to organise the track limits
00:22:22so that it's more equitable for everyone.
00:22:25They're the rules we have to work under with MSUK.
00:22:28And hopefully it's proven it's worth.
00:22:31You know, Mr. Tyre Stacks here.
00:22:34He's very happy that we've got rid of the tyre stacks.
00:22:37And as long as the drivers behave themselves, they'll stay at it.
00:22:40They won't.
00:22:42Are they winners in nine races?
00:22:43That suggests that the regulations are working as well.
00:22:46Well, not as well.
00:22:46It should be nine out of nine, to be honest.
00:22:49One slip through.
00:22:50Exactly.
00:22:50No, the regulations are working well.
00:22:52It's good close racing.
00:22:54It's everything to play for.
00:22:55OK, Alan, thanks.
00:22:56Have a good day.
00:22:58And we look forward to what's to come.
00:23:01And Mikey Doble off the second row
00:23:02could be building on what we saw at Snetterton for a start.
00:23:05Yeah, I mean, Alan was alluding to the fact
00:23:07we're going to see probably the fastest lap times
00:23:09we've ever seen around here.
00:23:11The cars are lighter.
00:23:12They're better developed.
00:23:14They've got the Toka turbo boost.
00:23:16I think we're going to see the lap records broken.
00:23:17But Paul was absolutely right.
00:23:20The front two rows, or three rows,
00:23:22are absolutely stacked with talent.
00:23:23So I think the first race is going to be a humdinger.
00:23:26And I quite like the fact they are all on this same tyre
00:23:28just for this meeting anyway.
00:23:30Yeah, give us an idea of the kind of
00:23:32heart-in-mouth character of this place.
00:23:35Yeah, it's one of those places that
00:23:36you have to kind of hold your breath.
00:23:39And that for FP1, when you've got to go out
00:23:41and you've got to do the first lap,
00:23:43it's almost better to just go absolutely hell-bent
00:23:46for that first couple of laps to get used to it.
00:23:48What's weird, I'm sure Paul will agree, and Tim,
00:23:51is that the first few laps you do
00:23:53feel really fast on the edge.
00:23:55But by the time you get to the end of the weekend,
00:23:57it becomes normal and it becomes almost like usual.
00:24:00So it's an interesting circuit.
00:24:03It's fast.
00:24:03One of my favourites.
00:24:04But these guys all love it.
00:24:06And I'm sure we're going to see
00:24:07high-end entertainment all day,
00:24:08door-to-door, high-speed,
00:24:10and hopefully some round the outside
00:24:12through the fast stuff as well.
00:24:13Wonderful.
00:24:14And Tom Ingram to break his duck today?
00:24:16I think so.
00:24:17I think Tom's definitely in with a shout.
00:24:18He's got to win one of these races.
00:24:20This is going to be hard fought.
00:24:22I think there's going to be a lot of side-by-side stuff.
00:24:25OK.
00:24:26Cars are firing up.
00:24:27Time for us to get out of the way.
00:24:28We'll be out on the grid with Louise
00:24:30in just a few minutes.
00:24:31Time ahead of round 10
00:24:33of the Quick Fit British Touring Car Championship.
00:24:35Clear skies, big crowds,
00:24:45a super-fast track.
00:24:47This is Thruxton.
00:24:49And this is round 10
00:24:50of the Quick Fit British Touring Car Championship.
00:24:52And right down there on the grid is Louise.
00:24:55Thank you, Steve.
00:24:56Yep.
00:24:56As you say, blue skies overhead,
00:24:58a massive crowd here.
00:25:00And the two guys who are leading this championship
00:25:02are the two guys at the front of the grid.
00:25:04I've got a feeling about this race.
00:25:06I think it's going to be a really exciting one.
00:25:09Ash, yesterday, I mean, that qualifying session,
00:25:12it was a mighty lap.
00:25:13The only person in the 120s,
00:25:15a mighty lap, a mighty brave lap as well
00:25:17in those conditions.
00:25:19Yeah.
00:25:19The camera showed just how treacherous it was out there.
00:25:22We had a huge moment at Turn 1.
00:25:25And, yeah, we've had some scary old moments out there.
00:25:28And I'm sure everyone did.
00:25:29But it was great to extract the lap time that we did
00:25:31and pull the lap time out of the car.
00:25:34In those conditions, putting your trust in the car,
00:25:38putting your trust in what Napa Racing have given me,
00:25:40and then making sure we extract the best out of ourselves.
00:25:4423 cars lined up behind you on this grid.
00:25:47I've got a feeling, though,
00:25:48you've really only got eyes for one of those drivers.
00:25:52Yeah, obviously, Tom's sat alongside me, of course.
00:25:54But the deployment that he's got, the extra lap,
00:25:58is going to hurt if he's in a fighting, attacking position.
00:26:02But I'm also hoping that Mikey Dover and Dan Cam have got something
00:26:05to say about that.
00:26:06So if they can put him under a bit of pressure and make him use that,
00:26:09that would be really handy.
00:26:11But we'll wait and see.
00:26:12It's going to be really interesting.
00:26:13I think there's a lot to be said around here with having the clean air.
00:26:18So we're going to try and maintain that.
00:26:20And fingers crossed we can come out on top.
00:26:22Well, as comes with having the championship lead,
00:26:25you've got that very little boost.
00:26:27But actually, it doesn't make that much difference here at Thruxton, does it?
00:26:30It's not as big as some places, for sure.
00:26:32Snet, Silverstone, we're going to see a bigger thing.
00:26:35But yeah, definitely here, there's still four or five tenths to be had from it.
00:26:41But it's when they deploy it all in one lump, you can't defend from it.
00:26:44So up the back straight is going to be where I'm going to be under threat
00:26:47if Tom wants to use it.
00:26:49Eyes in the back of your head.
00:26:50Enjoy it.
00:26:50Right, let's go and grab a word with Tom,
00:26:53who, as the guys were saying at the top of the show,
00:26:56still looking to get that first win of the season.
00:27:00So make my way through to Tom.
00:27:03Here we go.
00:27:04Can we dive in here?
00:27:07Tom, so I've just been having a word with Ash over there.
00:27:10He mentioned the aero wash here.
00:27:13It's quite a big thing, isn't it?
00:27:14Just explain to us what difference it makes
00:27:16in terms of the feeling of the handling of your car.
00:27:20You're talking to who, sorry?
00:27:22Ash, bloke on the other side.
00:27:23Oh, I'm sorry to hear that.
00:27:25Yeah, it's obviously you do get a little bit around here.
00:27:29That goes without saying.
00:27:31What tends to happen is you hear of all the F1 people moaning about it.
00:27:35But we pick it up as well.
00:27:38It's just the dirtier, that turbulent air that comes off the back.
00:27:42As it gets to the front of the car, it just makes it feel a bit horrible to them.
00:27:44So you start to have a bit of catch up.
00:27:47That said, the speed in the car has been strong.
00:27:52You know, it's felt good in the dry yesterday morning.
00:27:56I'd like to think we can have a good shot at this.
00:27:58You know, we'll see how it pans out.
00:28:02The current bun is out, so the circuit temperature's up.
00:28:04So let's go and see.
00:28:05I mean, everybody who's on the higher tyres has got all three races here,
00:28:09so nothing you can do in terms of strategy.
00:28:12But it's all about kind of having a car that's lively enough for the start of the race,
00:28:16but not so lively that it uses up those tyres,
00:28:18because you do need to be slightly careful with them, don't you?
00:28:21You do, yeah.
00:28:22And I think the key is to try to just be strategic with it,
00:28:27because the trouble is you've got a couple of idiots here
00:28:34who are just going to try and race each other.
00:28:36And actually, we've probably got to think about it a little bit as well.
00:28:38So, yeah, the tyres drop off, of course.
00:28:43There's every possibility of a safety car.
00:28:45There's every possibility of stuff going on in the race.
00:28:48So you just have to be fairly strategic with it.
00:28:50But at the same time, I want to beat him.
00:28:53He wants to beat me.
00:28:54They want to beat me.
00:28:54I want to beat them.
00:28:56You look around, and we all want to beat each other just as much as we do anyway.
00:28:59So it's going to be a fast day, I think, with the, as I say, with track temps up,
00:29:03the sunshine out, it's going to be good.
00:29:07And it's so nice.
00:29:08Thruxton has its really unique way when you drive to the grid,
00:29:11seeing, you know, all the fans of the bank.
00:29:13So let's have a good day.
00:29:14Good stuff.
00:29:15Have a good one.
00:29:16Right.
00:29:16I've got time for a very quick word with Mikey Dable.
00:29:18We heard from him in the top of the show.
00:29:20So I had a word with him earlier on, and I have to say, he is so excited about this race
00:29:26and so glad that he had such a good session yesterday.
00:29:30Great qualifying, great car underneath you.
00:29:32You're looking forward to this one, aren't you?
00:29:34Yeah, absolutely.
00:29:35Yeah.
00:29:35I mean, we survived a treacherous qualifying session yesterday.
00:29:38But, yeah, we're sitting here.
00:29:40We've...
00:29:41So, yeah, we're in a good position.
00:29:45I've just got to switch the engine on and run a cycle.
00:29:48Okey-dokey.
00:29:49All right, I'll let you do that then.
00:29:51Interesting that he's having to do that at this stage.
00:29:53I'll keep across that and see if there's anything going on there.
00:29:57But in the meantime, we will head off for a break and join us for this race one when we come back.
00:30:05Ten of the Quick Fit British Touring Car Championships.
00:30:07Straight to our commentators, Tim Harvey and David Addison.
00:30:10And so, on a dry and sunny day, we have a really interesting grid to look forward to.
00:30:17We've got Ash Sutton on pole position.
00:30:19And is this going to be his day?
00:30:20Is this going to be his first race?
00:30:22It could well be.
00:30:23I mean, the signs are it is.
00:30:24But I really think this is going to be a humdinger of a race.
00:30:27I'm so looking forward to it.
00:30:28I hope Ingram can split those two Napa cars at the front and really make a race of it.
00:30:33That Hyundai should be very quick round here.
00:30:36Should indeed.
00:30:36So, Ash Sutton starting on pole position.
00:30:39Before we go racing, let's go to 16th on the grid and say good morning to Adam Morgan.
00:30:44Adam, tough day yesterday, but this is a bit more like it in the dry, isn't it?
00:30:52No one to blame, really, apart from myself.
00:30:54So, we'll go away and look at that for future events.
00:30:58But today is, like I say, blue sky, sun's out.
00:31:02These are more our conditions.
00:31:03So, we're looking to move forward.
00:31:05And move forward you should.
00:31:06This car has been an absolute weapon this season.
00:31:08So, there are lots of places to be gained in this race, aren't there?
00:31:13There is.
00:31:14Yeah, there's some people up and down the grid out of position.
00:31:17So, it's going to be an interesting race.
00:31:19But, we'll, like I said, the car is fast.
00:31:22I'm feeling good.
00:31:23So, head down and move forward.
00:31:26Excellent.
00:31:26Good luck, Adam.
00:31:28So, Adam Morgan then starting, as I say, 16th on the grid.
00:31:31Sixth in the championship.
00:31:32That means he's got six laps worth of the Toker turbo boost going into this race.
00:31:37Remember that the boost allocated on where you are in the championship.
00:31:40As far as the grid is concerned, Ash Sutton starts on pole position.
00:31:44Tom Ingram with him at the front.
00:31:45One lap and two laps of boost respectively.
00:31:48Second row, Dan Camish.
00:31:49He has got more boost than those ahead.
00:31:53And Mikey Doble lining up with him with a full allocation, bearing in mind that he is outside that top eight in the championship.
00:31:59James Dorland, having never driven the car in the wet, got fifth in qualifying.
00:32:03Brilliant job yesterday.
00:32:04And a great return for Senna Proctor sixth, despite an alternator failure towards the end of the session.
00:32:09Row four, Tom Chilton.
00:32:10He's got seven laps worth of boost.
00:32:12Then you've got Jake Hill.
00:32:13He's got three laps.
00:32:14Gordon Shedden comes next.
00:32:15He had an intermittent power delivery issue yesterday.
00:32:18So, there's more to come from that car today.
00:32:19Dan Robleton, four laps of boost, a winner this year.
00:32:22He is next, ahead of Charles Rainford, a winner this year.
00:32:24Dexter Patterson next.
00:32:26Then you've got Darrell De Leon, a winner this year.
00:32:28And Josh Cook, after a big off yesterday, had a trip to A&E, an all-nighter from the team.
00:32:32But he's on the grid, one to watch.
00:32:34Dan Lloyd next.
00:32:35And then Adam Morgan, sixth in the championship, six laps worth of boost.
00:32:38He's ahead of Chris Smiley and Max Hall.
00:32:40Then you've got Stephen Jelley and Aidan Moffat, ahead in turn of Sam Osborne and Ronan Pearson.
00:32:45With Aaron Taylor-Smith and Nicholas Hamilton rounding out the grid.
00:32:49As ever, with the new qualifying format, there are people out of position.
00:32:52So, there's a lot to look for in this race.
00:32:54Yes, and no option tyres.
00:32:55There's everybody on the hard tyre for Thruxton.
00:32:59This is your boost allocation in laps.
00:33:01Remember, it's not in seconds now as qualifying, it's in laps.
00:33:05And Dan Kamish on five compared to the one and two of those ahead of him.
00:33:08And with a quick car and with two pole positions to his name and a race win.
00:33:13Is he the dark horse to win this race?
00:33:14Yeah, he could be.
00:33:15If he manages to use it at the right time or force the others to use it and run out, then he could well be in the pound seat.
00:33:23So, Ash Sutton then up to pole position.
00:33:26The only double winner of the year.
00:33:28Tom Ingram yet to be a race winner.
00:33:31Dan Kamish has had a victory.
00:33:32Mikey Doble has had a victory.
00:33:33And that is the top four on the grid.
00:33:34There is Ash Sutton.
00:33:35So, he doesn't just creep over the grid markings then on that one by one staggered grid on the pits straight in quotes.
00:33:43It's more of a long arc that takes you down towards Allard.
00:33:46The new fencing on the pit wall means that there have to be repeaters and marshals on the other side of the road as well.
00:33:52To let people see the flags, the boards, the lights.
00:33:55The teams now go to the pit garages.
00:33:57They have all the data.
00:33:58They have the pictures available to them.
00:33:59That's how they'll then follow the race.
00:34:01And the race is round 10 of the QuickFit British Touring Car Championship.
00:34:05The grid is formed.
00:34:06It is going to be 16 laps ahead of us.
00:34:09Everybody on that hard tyre.
00:34:10It's a dry day, a dry circuit.
00:34:12Five second boards shown and we are ready for business then.
00:34:16Lights will go red.
00:34:17Engine don't rise.
00:34:19It is lights out.
00:34:20It is a good start by Sutton.
00:34:22Not a great start by Kamish in comparison to Doble.
00:34:25He's almost up alongside him.
00:34:26But Sutton has certainly got the drop on Ingram.
00:34:28Jake Hill round the outside.
00:34:29The centre proctor and a very, very sideways.
00:34:31Chilton in the middle of the pack.
00:34:33Has he been able to save it as the car's come up towards us?
00:34:35Yes, he has.
00:34:35But there's a BMW off the road as well in the background.
00:34:38Having a big, big lose.
00:34:39It's Charles Rainford who's got a round and a round and a round.
00:34:41A real magic roundabout job that.
00:34:43It will drop him to the back of the field.
00:34:45I think he was taking evasive action and it all went wrong for him.
00:34:48Sutton leads Ingram.
00:34:49And those two have gone away with Doble third.
00:34:52Up into fourth is James Dornan.
00:34:53And Kamish has gone backwards.
00:34:55Yeah, but Axe started off like a bottle of pot from the line.
00:34:58And he was gone.
00:35:00But Ingram's looking very challenging on this first lap.
00:35:03Both these guys so good on cold tyres.
00:35:05The tyres here get up to temperature really fast anyway.
00:35:08As you say, Kamish was the loser initially off the line.
00:35:11And Gordon Shetland's also made some good progress there.
00:35:15We know that he's an experienced driver with a great strike rate here.
00:35:19Seven times a Thruxton winner.
00:35:20So he's certainly one to watch that Toyota Corolla game better in the driving of the wetters here.
00:35:24And the two race leaders then absolutely knows the tail.
00:35:26Ingram goes to the outside line.
00:35:27Ash Sutton has only one lap's worth of boost.
00:35:29Safety car deployed as Ingram tries to go right round the outside.
00:35:33They're going to be level.
00:35:34He goes through.
00:35:35Sutton has to give it room.
00:35:36Ingram will lead at the end of the lap.
00:35:38They race to the flat to the boards.
00:35:39And Ingram is ahead.
00:35:40Doble tries to get up alongside Sutton.
00:35:42And he is ahead and past him as they get to the line.
00:35:45But then I think will give back that place.
00:35:46Sutton looks to be going back through on the inside.
00:35:49So safety car deployed at the end of the opening lap of the race.
00:35:53And it must be for Charles Rainford's car that has not come by.
00:35:57Let's have another look at the start.
00:35:58Now have a look at Chilton.
00:35:59He's up the kerb.
00:36:00He hits Proctor.
00:36:01He gets all sideways.
00:36:03He gets sideways.
00:36:04And it's actually Rainford goes off on the left in avoidance.
00:36:07Comes back across the track.
00:36:09Fortunately nobody collects him.
00:36:11That could have been very nasty.
00:36:12Shades of Adam Morgan back in the Mercedes a few years ago.
00:36:16But fortunately he doesn't hit anybody.
00:36:19But yes, a bit of a kerfuffle at the chicane as they came in.
00:36:22But Rainford has got going.
00:36:24The ones that we've lost are Max Horn and Sam Oldsport.
00:36:26They are the two that have not come through on the opening lap.
00:36:29So the safety car is not for Charles Rainford.
00:36:31And in fairness to him, he's got it going again.
00:36:33But Max Horn and Sam Oldsport are off the racetrack.
00:36:37And that's on the back part of the circuit.
00:36:38Brooklyn Village Church area where we saw Josh Cook having his moment yesterday.
00:36:42And Adam Morgan off the road.
00:36:44You can see that Sam Oldsport is out of the car.
00:36:47Max Horn a little bit winded I fear after the impact.
00:36:50You can see that the tyre barrier is deformed on the right of the shot there.
00:36:53So the safety car is deployed.
00:36:55And therefore everybody has to slot in behind.
00:36:58No overtaking committed right now.
00:36:59Yeah, although I couldn't actually see any damage on Max Hall's car.
00:37:03It could, of course, be on the right-hand side.
00:37:05But I couldn't see it.
00:37:07So hopefully they're both okay.
00:37:10Yeah, it looks like he's getting out of the car now.
00:37:13Sam Oldsport in the background.
00:37:15He's out of the car.
00:37:15But the car is nosed into the barrier.
00:37:17So that will definitely have front damage.
00:37:20Max Hall just checking a few things on the car.
00:37:23The Napa Racing, Alliance Racing team in the pit lane looking on slightly coserly.
00:37:29We'll go back to the car.
00:37:29This is off the start from Pearson.
00:37:32Watching in front.
00:37:34That's Max Hall.
00:37:36Osborne is just in front.
00:37:38Aaron Taylor-Smith has come into shot in the Toyota on the right.
00:37:41Obviously, we've got Charles Wraithman who's come across the grid already on the right.
00:37:45So that doesn't affect them.
00:37:47Max Hall on the left.
00:37:48Look, goes all the way around the outside into the complex, which is the right thing to do
00:37:52when you're at the back and the gap opens up for you.
00:37:55And they're very tight together as they come through Campbell Cobb.
00:37:59Seagrave is the exit.
00:38:00The next one is the left-hand of Noble.
00:38:02And it's through Noble and Goodwood, I think, that the incident occurs.
00:38:07Looking ahead, can I see...
00:38:09Oh, it looks like Osborne lost it on the right.
00:38:11Osborne lost it.
00:38:12Oh, no, that's Max Hall's lost it on the right.
00:38:15And come back across the road and collected Osborne.
00:38:18Very unfortunate.
00:38:19That's a cold right rear tyre on Max Hall's car, why he's lost it.
00:38:23But this is on board with Adam Morgan.
00:38:25Remember, he started down in 16th.
00:38:29Gets a good start.
00:38:32He's got...
00:38:33Oh, yeah.
00:38:35There's Rainford on the grass.
00:38:36Straight across on the right.
00:38:38Tries to catch the slide.
00:38:39Big, scary moment for Rainford.
00:38:41So Morgan should be ahead of that drama that's triggered the safety car.
00:38:45He's up to 11th, incidentally.
00:38:46By the end of the opening lap, he gets involved there with Dexter Patterson, as Adam Morgan.
00:38:50And there, you can see Carlsby moving, barrier repair work to be done.
00:38:56This might take a few laps, yeah.
00:38:58So the driver's currently behind the safety car and Max Hall's car being retrieved.
00:39:04The drivers will go to the medical centre, of course, no matter how large or small an incident, just to be checked over.
00:39:11Let's try and grab a word with Adam Morgan, then.
00:39:17Adam, not a bad first lap up into 11th place.
00:39:20It all looked quite frantic.
00:39:21You had BMWs spinning across the road in front of you and everything.
00:39:24Yeah, that was pretty hectic to begin with, but, yeah, in those situations, you've just got to try and make the most of it.
00:39:33Try and pick your gaps, make sure it's safe, but, yeah, it's not a bad first couple laps up into P11, like you say, so we'll try and get our head down and keep on going.
00:39:44So what can you do now while the safety car is out?
00:39:47Is there anything you can adjust in the car?
00:39:48Is it just a case of sit there and wait for the restart?
00:39:51Can you use the time?
00:39:53You've got to manage these tyres, manage the brakes.
00:39:56We know how bracing is around here, so you want to keep the temperature up in the tyres, but at the same time, you don't want to take any life out of the front.
00:40:03So it's a constant management is around Truxton.
00:40:08You're constantly looking after stuff, but it looks like it might be a lengthy safety car, so we can build it back up a bit near at a time.
00:40:15All right, we'll leave you to that management process for now.
00:40:17Cheers, Adam.
00:40:19So Adam Morgan is in the next place.
00:40:22Quickly to mention behind you, 12, Josh Cook.
00:40:24Good first letter from him.
00:40:25Yeah, very good.
00:40:26Don't forget, Josh Cook's had no time in that car since it's been rebuilt.
00:40:29He couldn't even do a shakedown or anything, so One Motorsport have done an excellent job of getting that car fixed.
00:40:34A disgruntled Sam Osborne walks across to the instant support vehicle for a lift back to the pits.
00:40:43Just at the front, though, remember Ingram had got round the outside of Sutton, but he's given that place back to Sutton.
00:40:49So it's Sutton that's leading on the road now.
00:40:52Of course, it was at the chicane last year that Ingram took a place and did give it back and subsequently lost the win.
00:40:59True enough.
00:41:00So leaving nothing to chance this year.
00:41:02You're not going to be down robots in the minute.
00:41:04He's in seventh place.
00:41:05This is a replay of his start.
00:41:07On board with robots.
00:41:08Not the best start.
00:41:09He's lost several positions, not only to the fast-starting rear-wheel-drive BMWs, but also to the front-wheel-drive cars in front of him.
00:41:17That was a big old moment.
00:41:19So was that.
00:41:21That was a big old moment.
00:41:22It just opened up nicely for him.
00:41:23It was probably just as well he made a bad start.
00:41:25He will tell us he did that deliberately to avoid that incident.
00:41:29But it did leave him a nice gap in front, didn't it?
00:41:31It did rather.
00:41:32The first slide you saw was Tom Chilton.
00:41:34The car coming from the grass to the other side.
00:41:36It was BMW and Charles Wainford.
00:41:38Spencer Aldridge in the middle there.
00:41:40Tom Ingram's race engineer looking on in the Team Virtue pit.
00:41:44The BRDC cap just turning around in the background.
00:41:47Marvin Humphreys, the team manager.
00:41:48There you start to get an idea of the damage on Sam Osborne's car.
00:41:51A lot of damage on that right rear corner.
00:41:54So the cars are being moved.
00:41:55We've also got that tar barrier to sort out.
00:41:57We can add on three laps.
00:41:59But this is, like Adam Morgan predicted, a lengthy safety car period.
00:42:02Yeah, yeah.
00:42:03He could see the damage there to both the cars and the barrier.
00:42:07But, you know, I think as Matt Tall speared back across the track, he hit Sam Osborne in
00:42:12that right rear.
00:42:13And then that pushed Osborne, obviously, off into the barriers as well.
00:42:16So the Alliance Racing Team have got some work to do to get that car fixed.
00:42:21I'm sure they're already getting the bits out.
00:42:23But, yeah, I mean, Chilton actually is actually still in a good position.
00:42:28He's in 14th place.
00:42:30So despite that wild moment, he didn't lose too many positions.
00:42:34Max Hall's fourth retirement of the season.
00:42:37He's had quite a few incidents, as you'll see.
00:42:38It's Brad from Statham as well as here.
00:42:41Mikey Doble, in the meantime, running in third place.
00:42:43There he is, at work.
00:42:44And this is his start.
00:42:46Ah, good to see a start near the front.
00:42:48Look how well Ash Sutton gets off the line.
00:42:50In fact, both Eamon and Sutton got away very nicely.
00:42:53Kamish, at this point, is third and looks fine.
00:42:56So I'm not sure quite how he then loses position.
00:43:00Watch on board with Doble.
00:43:01Hopefully he will stay with it and see the overtake.
00:43:04He goes to the outside.
00:43:06Good move, but can't quite get all the way alongside.
00:43:09Or does he make a lunge?
00:43:10He does make a lunge.
00:43:11Ah, well, that's what taps Kamish.
00:43:13So Kamish lost that position as a result of a bit of contact with Doble.
00:43:17But Doble was racing hard there into the left-hander of the complex.
00:43:22They both lost distance to the front too, though.
00:43:25And they're off and away, with Ingram trying really hard to get past on the first lap.
00:43:35Doble with the car working well for him as they come down towards Church.
00:43:39This is still sixth gear.
00:43:41Just a partial lift on the throttle right across the inside.
00:43:46There is a track limits violation if you go too wide on the exit.
00:43:49But he gets a nice, neat run.
00:43:51And we're possibly going to see the Tomming around the outside move into the chicane here.
00:43:57He sets it up beautifully.
00:43:59I was looking.
00:44:01In fact, the lights were on.
00:44:02You could see on the Marshall post.
00:44:03I was looking to the Marshall's post, which is why he's given the post back.
00:44:07Doble actually possibly hasn't seen it because he actually overtakes at the line, but then gives it back now.
00:44:12So that puts him back into third place.
00:44:15He will have to do the work again, and so will Tom Ingram.
00:44:19So right now we're on lap number six out of what's going to be 19, ultimately, with the extra laps added on for the safety car.
00:44:26There is the Motor Parts Direct with Powermax Racing team down to one car.
00:44:30Nick Halstead, taken ill yesterday with some pain.
00:44:35He's watching from home.
00:44:36Get going to see Nick.
00:44:37He went out to FP1 and around his ribcage was quite tender.
00:44:42Went to hospital and has decided to step back from this weekend, but he will be back later in the season, no doubt.
00:44:47There is Mikey Doble then.
00:44:49I'm holding Team Honour.
00:44:50And he runs in third.
00:44:51Race order then is Sutton Ingram from Doble, Camish, Dorlin, Procter, Rowbottom, Shedden, Hill, and De Leon, the top ten.
00:45:01And there is Max Hall's car being craned away from one side of the circuit to the other.
00:45:06The car of Sam Osborne behind.
00:45:07The tyre barrier, assuming it is sorted out, should allow us to go racing very soon as well.
00:45:13Marshalls will be back on post once those incident vehicles are out of the way.
00:45:16Ian Watson, Dave White, his deputy, the clerks of the course.
00:45:18They'll be looking at not only these pictures that we all have, but at the Marshalls post CCTV cameras, making sure everything is out of the way, making sure that the barrier is safe.
00:45:28So if another accident has to be withstood, it's up to the job.
00:45:30And then the call can be made to bring in the safety car and we can go back racing, which hopefully might be at the end of this lap.
00:45:36Yeah, one thing, of course, that's new this year is the safety car restart rules, which will close everybody up, because if you remember Sutton and Ingram had that little gap to everybody,
00:45:45but although that was closed up through the chicane under the safety car, but on the new restart rules, they're not allowed to accelerate till they're out of the chicane and they get to the restart line.
00:45:56So it should mean that everyone's much closer together.
00:45:58So who are the ones to watch on the restart?
00:46:01Well, probably half the grid, really, but you've got Dan Rowbottom looking to buy back some places, Morgan Shetton's in a hurry, so is Jake Hill, Adam Morgan, and Josh Cook, and the recovering Tom Chilton.
00:46:11Dan Lloyd is in 15th, and that car was quick in the dry, and Chris Smiley's 17th, and he topped FP2, so struggled in the wet.
00:46:18But that's another car that, by right, ought to be higher up the order, and of course, there's Charles Radford, 22nd last, but he's now got to try and get some places back.
00:46:25Yeah, one thing that we haven't discussed, really, is the BMWs.
00:46:29Jake Hill is the top BMW in 9th, and we look forward to, they look forward to, certainly, some better race pace than they had in qualifying.
00:46:38It was just too wet.
00:46:39The BMWs, when they're wet, when it's wet, Jake Hill's been fantastic over the last couple of years,
00:46:44but, when it's really wet and aqua-planing, the front-wheel drive cars have an advantage.
00:46:49Looks like we're going for a restart.
00:46:51Lights are out on top of the safety car then, into the chicane.
00:46:54Come, Sutton, Ingram, Doble, Camish, Dorlin, Proctor, the top six, Rowbottom, Sheddon, Hill, De Leon round out the top ten.
00:47:03There's a green flag being raided on the start line, the boards and flags are withdrawn, there's the green flag.
00:47:07Ash Sutton accelerates, now, coming out of the chicane, we go back racing, you can't overtake until you cross the timing line,
00:47:13and down towards Alain, it is Sutton versus Ingram, they are absolutely nose to tail, Ingram has found a way past once in rather robust fashion.
00:47:20He's going to try and do it again, neither of them wanting to use their lap or two laps worth of turbo boost until the very end.
00:47:26This is Doble closing up on the outside, Camish goes back past him, really, demon move by Camish, he goes third.
00:47:31Ingram's looking for a way past Sutton, but Camish certainly has a point to prove after being roughed up at the original start,
00:47:37and he's brought back third place already.
00:47:38Well, Doble outbraked himself, you can see by the closing speed into the chicane that Doble was either going to do a demon break around the outside,
00:47:47or as it transpired, he just outbraked himself, so he just opened the door for Camish, who's straight onto the back, in fact, of Ingram.
00:47:54And don't forget that Camish has got more boost available to him, he wants to use that towards the end of the race as well,
00:48:00and it's Sutton ahead of Ingram, Camish absolutely storming along to catch up.
00:48:04In fourth place is Mikey Doble, small gap back to fifth, Dorland, sixth is Proctor, seventh is Robottom,
00:48:08and here are the race leaders, and look at Camish go, gets a bit of a toe off Ingram,
00:48:11who gets a toe from Sutton to the inside line, goes Sutton to the outside line, goes Ingram,
00:48:15he's done it once here to get the lead, Sutton right on the limit as the car quivers under braking,
00:48:19they clash, Camish is going to go through for the lead, they skip out the chicane,
00:48:23arguably gain an advantage in so doing, Proctor's off the road as well.
00:48:26Ingram comes through in the lead, and that was the last of the leg breakers on the outside line,
00:48:31there was really nowhere Ingram could go.
00:48:33There was nowhere, because Sutton's car was, it was barely in control, wasn't it?
00:48:37It was hopping and skipping on the brakes, and he just ran wide and took Ingram with him.
00:48:42Here's Proctor getting stuck back into touring car racing behind, behind champion Jake Hill,
00:48:48and not afraid to rub him up.
00:48:50Absolutely, and there's Josh Cook, look up on the inside, the King of Thruxton,
00:48:54nine times a race, winner here, he's on the back of Gordon Shedden,
00:48:56seven times a winner here, and Cook's going to clear two of them in one, great move, fantastic.
00:49:01Josh Cook goes by, no ill effects of yesterday, he's off, that's for sure at the moment,
00:49:05as he goes up towards Noble, and that contact, Proctor gets into Shedden,
00:49:08who's on the grass, the car is sideways, he's back on the tarmac,
00:49:12and mercifully, nobody collects him.
00:49:14That was an enormous co-brown moment for Gordon Shedden, but thankfully, he'll be able to get back on the tarmac,
00:49:19he might want to have brought a lot of grass on the front of the car,
00:49:22which will send the temperatures off the clock, and the pit lane may beckon,
00:49:24but that could have been a whole lot worse.
00:49:26Well, I mean, poor old Gordon Shedden, he just has no luck,
00:49:29remember he was collected by Max Hall at Snetterton,
00:49:32he's now been turfed into a spin at one of the fastest parts of the track,
00:49:37here by returning Sarah Proctor, he won't be happy at all.
00:49:40It turfed, was the operative work, given how much grass he brought back,
00:49:43out of the chicane, then come the leaders, Morgan is there, ahead of Chilton, ahead of De Leon,
00:49:47so Tom Ingram leads, ahead of Sutton, ahead of Kamish,
00:49:50now this is how Ingram got the lead.
00:49:53So, Sutton doesn't want to let him through,
00:49:56the car is hopping, skipping and bumping,
00:49:58and look, he just wipes Ingram off the road to the outside,
00:50:03I mean, the unfortunate one really, I guess, is Kamish,
00:50:05because he should have inherited the lead.
00:50:07Would he argue that they gained an advantage by being off the track like that?
00:50:10They didn't slow much.
00:50:11Well, they didn't slow much, and the question is,
00:50:13did they come out further ahead than they went in?
00:50:17That's the touch from Senna Proctor on the back of Gordon Shedden,
00:50:21and you're right, he did pick up a load of grass in the inlet,
00:50:23but fortunately the car didn't spear back across the road.
00:50:27Yes, the best useful intake of breath from Toyota Pazoo Racing UK,
00:50:33pretty much all the way up the pit lane as that car got sideways,
00:50:35the leaders that are coming out of Church Corner,
00:50:38we're on lap 10 out of this elongated 19 lap race,
00:50:41Senna Proctor may find himself in a little bit of hot water for that contact at that part of the racetrack,
00:50:46a bit raced rusty, Senna, having not been in the championship since 2021,
00:50:49as with a lockup, Ingram leads, Suttonbo is back at him.
00:50:53Yeah, he is.
00:50:53Well, obviously, Ingram did absolutely nothing wrong in that manoeuvre,
00:50:56he couldn't turn into the corner, he got taken wide,
00:50:59but I guess between the two of them, the positions are as they should be.
00:51:04Yeah, but as you say, Dan Camish might think,
00:51:05well, hang on a minute, I did it all right, I went through the chicane,
00:51:08and I've come out no better off.
00:51:10So, look back now from Adam Morgan's car and Tom Chilton,
00:51:13the two teammates running currently in 10th and 11th,
00:51:17but Tom Ingram still looking for that maiden victory of the season,
00:51:21he leads the way, he's up the road ahead,
00:51:23and Tom looking for win number 34,
00:51:25his last win was at Browns at the end of last season,
00:51:27and that's Rowbottom getting ahead of James Dawlin,
00:51:29so that's the change for 5th place now.
00:51:31That was a lovely move, that was a really well-timed move
00:51:34to get through on the exit of the complex,
00:51:37he did that absolutely beautifully, Rowbottom.
00:51:40Cookie, though, up to 8th place now, fantastic run from Cookie.
00:51:47So there's Jake Hill next on the tail of Rowbottom,
00:51:49he's cleared James Dawlin as well,
00:51:51Cook next up, so Josh is going to line up to have a go on the inside,
00:51:54is he into church? Yes, gets the job done,
00:51:56this is the replay of the robo-move.
00:51:58So watch how he does this, he carries more speed through the left,
00:52:01so normally you sacrifice a bit speed through the left
00:52:04to get a good line, as James Dawlin for the last one,
00:52:07but if you carry more speed, you can slip up the inside,
00:52:10just like Dan Rowbottom did, perfect move there,
00:52:12and typical of Fraxton racing.
00:52:14Yeah, absolutely right, Hill for Rowbottom is a possible change,
00:52:17Cook to get in on the axe as well before the end,
00:52:19Ingram and Sutton go by,
00:52:21that's 11 laps down there,
00:52:228 to go as they head in towards Allard,
00:52:25so Tom Ingram ahead of Ash Sutton,
00:52:26in 3rd place behind them it's Dan Kamish,
00:52:28still chipping away,
00:52:30but he has 3 laps of boost left,
00:52:34so he's still slightly better placed in terms of power available to the end,
00:52:38but he's not much closer than he was a lap or so ago,
00:52:43he's still not really part of that fight for the lead.
00:52:45Well, the thing is, he does want to use his extra boost to close up,
00:52:47he wants it to overtake if he can,
00:52:49so he would like Sutton to start messing about with Ingram
00:52:53and slow them both down,
00:52:54then he could use his boost to pass.
00:52:57So he wants to do it on pure pace,
00:52:58but the key point of all of this is the pace is not there,
00:53:01because in his last lap he was slower than the two ahead of him,
00:53:04so he doesn't have as quick a car on base pace,
00:53:07never mind the boost, so Kamish is 9 tenths of a second back from Sutton,
00:53:11there he is, look in the background,
00:53:12Mikey Doble is 4th, then a gap back to Rowbottom,
00:53:15to Hill, to Josh Cook then,
00:53:17so Josh started 14th and he's running in 7th place,
00:53:21so how's that for a recovery?
00:53:22Fantastic, they don't call him the King of Trucks and for nothing,
00:53:25he didn't get those 10 wins by accident, did he?
00:53:28Out of the chicane, he will come in a moment,
00:53:30there is the Honda Civic then,
00:53:31the one motorsport car of Steve Dudman's team,
00:53:34Santa Proctor goes by there,
00:53:369th coming out of the chicane,
00:53:38leaders have gone through,
00:53:39Ingram to Sutton is 3 tenths,
00:53:40Kamish is falling back,
00:53:41he's 11 tenths away from Sutton now,
00:53:43so he's dropping off the tail of the top two.
00:53:47And tyre management used to be a huge aspect of racing at Thruxham,
00:53:50but the cooler conditions and the fantastic Goodyear hard compound tyre,
00:53:56they don't have to worry about it in the way they're used to,
00:53:58it should make the end of the race,
00:53:59especially having had that nice little safety car moment
00:54:02to cool them off a little bit.
00:54:05So the race leaders currently are on lap number 13,
00:54:08Josh Cook, fastest lap of the race,
00:54:09he's gone past Jake Hill,
00:54:11he's into the top six,
00:54:12we have not seen the best out of the Honda,
00:54:14the team,
00:54:15nor Josh this year,
00:54:16we are seeing it now,
00:54:17bear in mind,
00:54:18this has been rebuilt overnight,
00:54:21Josh was in A&E,
00:54:22with a sore ankle being looked at,
00:54:24he's okay,
00:54:24although during the week he might,
00:54:26when the adrenaline wears off,
00:54:27be a bit more in pain,
00:54:29but right now this is an absolutely fantastic performance,
00:54:32yes we know he goes well round here,
00:54:33and yes we know the car has always gone well round here,
00:54:36but bear in mind that it hadn't turned the wheel after the crash,
00:54:38until it went to the grid,
00:54:40this is impressive.
00:54:41Yeah,
00:54:41and here he comes round the outside,
00:54:43a row bottom to take sixth place,
00:54:45fifth place,
00:54:46sorry,
00:54:47and he's still got boost available,
00:54:48he started with a full eight laps worth,
00:54:50he had four laps at the start of this lap,
00:54:52he is going to be on the back of Doble,
00:54:54before long as well,
00:54:55so Cookie goes by,
00:54:56and Ingram to Sutton is three tenths,
00:54:581.2 seconds further back,
00:55:00it's Camish,
00:55:01and then it's Doble in fourth,
00:55:02it's Cook fifth,
00:55:03but Josh for fourth place,
00:55:05before the end is a real possibility,
00:55:07Ash Sutton for the race lead,
00:55:08before the end,
00:55:09isn't that out of the question?
00:55:10No he's definitely not,
00:55:10he's back on the tail,
00:55:11and that's got Ingram looking in his mirrors,
00:55:15which is exactly what Sutton wants,
00:55:17but yeah,
00:55:18just emphasising how good the Goodyear tyres are,
00:55:20Josh Cook set that fastest lap on lap 10,
00:55:23that's almost unheard of in Thruxton racing sort of parlance,
00:55:27because normally the tyre starts to go off very quickly after lap 2 or 3,
00:55:31so he's on fire,
00:55:33so the Goodyear tyres.
00:55:34Race leaders then working their way out of that Long Goodwood Village Church,
00:55:39right-hander that loops all the way around the back part of the circuit,
00:55:43we've got one or two more drivers being warned about track limits,
00:55:45but we've still got battles to resolve,
00:55:47one of which crucially is for the race lead,
00:55:49lap 14 in this now 19 lap race,
00:55:52because of the safety car intervention,
00:55:54it's Tom Ingram ahead,
00:55:55he's not getting away from Ash Sutton,
00:55:57and it's Ingram that locks up slightly this time into the chicane,
00:55:59Sutton closing back up behind him,
00:56:01two of the most popular drivers,
00:56:03absolutely together as they come through the chicane,
00:56:05where there's as ever a big vocal crowd on hand at Thruxton,
00:56:08in third place then,
00:56:09it's Camish and fourth,
00:56:10it's Josh Cook,
00:56:11he's done it,
00:56:12so Josh Cook then comes through 14th to fourth.
00:56:14Wow,
00:56:15what a drive,
00:56:16that's going to be one of the contenders for drive of the day,
00:56:20isn't it,
00:56:20and now Rowbottom has got through on Doble,
00:56:23so Doble just started to struggle a little bit.
00:56:27Now is it out of the question to ask Cook to catch Camish by the end of the race,
00:56:302.8 seconds between them,
00:56:32and Doble's got a problem,
00:56:33that's why he's been losing places,
00:56:34because the Vauxhall Astra stops at the complex,
00:56:36Mikey Doble,
00:56:38after the high of Snetterton,
00:56:39hits the low of retirement at Thruxton.
00:56:42That's overheated in some big way,
00:56:44or the engine's let go,
00:56:46or something's gone wrong,
00:56:47he hasn't been across the grass,
00:56:48but remember on this grid,
00:56:50he had to do a recycle of the engine,
00:56:52so something wasn't quite right there,
00:56:54and it's definitely overheated somehow.
00:56:58And this is lap 15,
00:56:59and of course it would have been 16 laps back for the safety car,
00:57:02but Mikey Doble really sadly is out of the race,
00:57:05and he's going to be at the back of the grid for race two,
00:57:07along with Max Wall and Samlesbourne,
00:57:09and Gordon Shedden,
00:57:10who had to pit after the car had to pick off.
00:57:13So, here are the leaders,
00:57:14Ingram locking up,
00:57:15he was a little bit further ahead of Sutton,
00:57:17but then scrabbles through the chicane,
00:57:18uses lots of curve.
00:57:20Now, Kamish looking a bit nearer to them,
00:57:22as a really dejected Doble walks away.
00:57:26Race down for Mikey Doble then,
00:57:28as the race leaders go by,
00:57:30with four laps to go,
00:57:31Ingram along with Cook,
00:57:33along with Rowbottom being warned about track limits at the chicane.
00:57:36Yeah, and Kamish hugely quicker than the others on that lap.
00:57:39He was four tenths quicker than teammate Sutton just in front of him,
00:57:43two tenths quicker than leader Ingram.
00:57:45So, look, you can visually see he's suddenly close,
00:57:48and it hasn't been from using the boost.
00:57:50In fact, it was Sutton who used his one lap of boost on the last lap.
00:57:54I think Sutton's got a bit of a problem.
00:57:55I think you're right,
00:57:56because he's just not got the pace there to fight, has he?
00:57:58He almost moves over and lets Kamish go,
00:58:00but then fights back and has another go at him,
00:58:02coming out of Noble.
00:58:03So, is this for the team to say,
00:58:05OK, I haven't got the pace,
00:58:06let's see what Kammo can do?
00:58:07Dan Kam goes up into second position,
00:58:10Sutton stays on the tail of him,
00:58:12tries to, if you like, benefit from the slipstream
00:58:14to drag him around,
00:58:15as the car of Nicholas Hamilton has pitted, incidentally.
00:58:18But now, that Sutton, I think,
00:58:20releasing Kamish for Napa Racing
00:58:21to see what somebody else from the team could do about Ingram.
00:58:24Well, I noticed on the last lap
00:58:26on this, what we call a straight,
00:58:28oh, wow, really wide there, losing time.
00:58:32That's Proctor.
00:58:32That was Senna Proctor.
00:58:33But yeah, on the last lap here,
00:58:35coming up the Woodham straight, or Woodham Hill,
00:58:38I saw Sutton losing time.
00:58:40So, I don't know if he had a problem there.
00:58:42It was side-by-side,
00:58:44Jake and Dan Rowbottom get into each other.
00:58:47Yeah, that was Rowbottom fending off the challenge of Hill.
00:58:50Right, Ingram to Kamish is 1.8 seconds.
00:58:54Sutton is being caught now by Cook for the podium.
00:58:57So, Ash Sutton is down to third,
00:59:00but with maybe some problem.
00:59:01That last lap was a 19.8,
00:59:03but we saw him, if you like,
00:59:04backing off and letting Kamish by.
00:59:06That's Gordon Shen going through,
00:59:08rebuilding his race.
00:59:09He's ahead of Dexter Patterson now
00:59:10for 19th position.
00:59:11But that was quite a save by Gordon Shen.
00:59:13I'll tell you a lie,
00:59:14he didn't actually pit with all the grass and the fun.
00:59:16He has persevered,
00:59:17but the car way, way down the order.
00:59:19But the fact that it's undamaged
00:59:20will be a massive relief to that team.
00:59:22Right, there.
00:59:23Rowbottom on the limit.
00:59:24The car dancing out of Noble.
00:59:26Hill is behind him
00:59:27and James Dawley is next in the queue.
00:59:29James' best result before this weekend
00:59:31has been a 14th place
00:59:33and right now he is in 7th.
00:59:34Now, fantastic qualifying
00:59:36and a fantastic first race
00:59:37for James Dawley.
00:59:38Really finding his feet
00:59:40in this championship.
00:59:41And Sutton is falling back
00:59:42towards Cookie.
00:59:44Absolutely.
00:59:44Cook for the podium.
00:59:45Still possible.
00:59:46There's Rowbottom from Hill,
00:59:47from James Dawley,
00:59:48running an exalted company.
00:59:50Then Adam Morgan in 8th place.
00:59:52So Morgan's 16th to 8th as there.
00:59:54Look, Hill is coming under attack
00:59:55from James Dawley.
00:59:56Going very, very well indeed here.
00:59:59So the Toyota looking a little bit more competitive
01:00:01than it has done in previous events
01:00:03then with the reigning champion,
01:00:05James Dawley.
01:00:05First year of touring car racing,
01:00:07don't forget,
01:00:07comes across the line.
01:00:08We've got two laps to go.
01:00:10Ingram to Camish.
01:00:11It's 1.4 seconds.
01:00:12Last time Camish was quicker.
01:00:14Camish has an extra lap of boost available.
01:00:16Yeah, 3 tenths quicker.
01:00:17The gap is still 1.4 seconds though.
01:00:20So he's going to need a bit more
01:00:21than that 3 tenths of a second.
01:00:23The boost itself is worth
01:00:25about 3 or 4 tenths of a second.
01:00:27But he's only got one more lap of it
01:00:30than Ingram.
01:00:31So he may not quite have enough.
01:00:33And remember,
01:00:33Ingram hasn't won a race this year.
01:00:35He will be desperate
01:00:36to win this race.
01:00:38This is the Sutton vs. Cook battle.
01:00:41Tom Chilton is being given
01:00:43a 10 second penalty
01:00:44for track limit effects.
01:00:45He's 10th on the road.
01:00:46But this is the fight for third on the road.
01:00:48Sutton vs. Cook.
01:00:49Ford vs. Honda.
01:00:50And Josh,
01:00:51after a very, very tough season,
01:00:52is about to make the move
01:00:53and go through on the inside.
01:00:54Heading into church.
01:00:56Job done.
01:00:56Brilliant stuff this.
01:00:57Josh Cook goes by.
01:00:59He had a third at Snetterton
01:01:00and he might well emulate that.
01:01:02But bear in mind,
01:01:03he was in hospital yesterday evening.
01:01:04The car was in bits
01:01:05and he's ahead.
01:01:06He's with a flash of the lights
01:01:07as they vector the room.
01:01:08Up towards the chicane he comes then.
01:01:10Brave, brave stuff
01:01:11by two more
01:01:12of the top drivers
01:01:13in the championship.
01:01:13But Sutton's car's lost
01:01:15all its top speed.
01:01:16Yeah.
01:01:16Both here and on the way up the hill.
01:01:19He's just lost all its top speed.
01:01:21Looks fine in the corners
01:01:22but definitely lost speed up the hill.
01:01:24So we'll find out after the race
01:01:25what that's all about.
01:01:26But what a fantastic drive
01:01:28by Josh Cook.
01:01:29And we're on the last lap.
01:01:31So we will not be far off
01:01:33finding out what Ash Sutton's problems were.
01:01:34He is, as Tim's been saying,
01:01:36losing top end pace.
01:01:38Meantime, Adam Morgan now
01:01:39attacks James Dorland.
01:01:40This is the seventh.
01:01:41Morgan has not done yet.
01:01:42Last lap, it's Ingram
01:01:4311 tenths up the road.
01:01:45Kamish, Kamish is closing
01:01:46but they've both got boost to use
01:01:48on this last lap.
01:01:49Cook third.
01:01:50He's not going to catch Kamish
01:01:51but it's been a great drive by him
01:01:53as Morgan now starts to challenge
01:01:54James Dorland.
01:01:56Send a proctor behind it.
01:01:57Ninth place after that great save
01:01:59coming out of church
01:01:59a couple of laps ago.
01:02:01Dorland's car there on the edge
01:02:02dancing out wide.
01:02:03Morgan trying to get the undercut
01:02:05maybe if he's really brave
01:02:06through Goodwin.
01:02:07He's not really close enough there
01:02:08however.
01:02:09So that Toyota stays ahead
01:02:11but Tom Ingram
01:02:12is going to come through
01:02:13and score victory
01:02:14and it will be his first of the year.
01:02:16It will be his 34th
01:02:17in the British Touring Car Championship.
01:02:19Dan Kamish ain't that far behind him
01:02:21but the Team Virtue mechanics
01:02:22have just run across the pit lane
01:02:23ready to cheer their man home.
01:02:25They've got this new debris fencing
01:02:26to climb up as well
01:02:27when he comes out of the chicane
01:02:28and they can cheer him to the echo.
01:02:30It's been a long time coming
01:02:31but Tom Ingram's first win
01:02:33of 2025
01:02:33comes at Thruxton.
01:02:35Tom Ingram wins race one
01:02:37Dan Kamish second
01:02:38and Josh Cook
01:02:39after a brilliant effort
01:02:40from 14th on the grid
01:02:41and a rebuilt car is third
01:02:43a treble dash up and fourth
01:02:44and it's Robotson fifth
01:02:45Hill sixth
01:02:46Dawland seventh
01:02:47is best ever
01:02:47Morgan eighth
01:02:48Brockton ninth
01:02:49Chilton tenth over the line
01:02:51but Daryl De Leon
01:02:51will inherit that
01:02:52with the penalty
01:02:53that Chilton will have applied
01:02:55and that was a very lively
01:02:57start to the day.
01:02:58What a brilliant race
01:02:59I thoroughly enjoyed that
01:03:00I'm delighted for Tom Ingram
01:03:02to get his first win
01:03:03of the year
01:03:04he drove really well
01:03:06the team are delighted
01:03:07it was a
01:03:08it's been a long time
01:03:09coming that win
01:03:09not before time
01:03:11he pulls it off in style
01:03:12Kamish a good second
01:03:13after dropping to fourth
01:03:15but man of the race
01:03:16absolutely Josh Cook
01:03:17rewarding that one
01:03:18motorsport team
01:03:19for all their hard work
01:03:21overnight
01:03:21and hopefully therefore
01:03:23Tom can avoid
01:03:24talking about a pointsy day
01:03:26we can have a winsy day
01:03:27from him instead
01:03:28first win of the season
01:03:29then
01:03:29big bag of points
01:03:31he of course gets
01:03:32lap leader points
01:03:33as well as the race win
01:03:34doesn't get the fastest
01:03:34lap point
01:03:35that goes the way
01:03:35of Josh Cook
01:03:36as Tim was saying
01:03:37during the race
01:03:37but well done Tom Ingram
01:03:39really feisty drive
01:03:40but as far as Ash
01:03:41Sasson is concerned
01:03:42there are lots of questions
01:03:43to be answered
01:03:45after that car lost pace
01:03:46yeah
01:03:46the team will be
01:03:47all over the situation
01:03:48they've probably got the data
01:03:50and the
01:03:50to back up whatever
01:03:52he was feeling
01:03:53in the car
01:03:53and I'm sure they'll have
01:03:54that fixed for race too
01:03:56but it definitely
01:03:57was an issue
01:03:58in the car
01:03:58and one motorsport
01:04:01very very happy indeed
01:04:02and there in the background
01:04:04Steph
01:04:05Josh's partner
01:04:05and their child
01:04:07and dad did them proud
01:04:08there
01:04:09bringing the car home
01:04:10in third
01:04:11we understand
01:04:11the lack of power
01:04:12is what the team
01:04:13say so far
01:04:13but yes
01:04:14that's the euphemism
01:04:16for the moment
01:04:17the results of round 10
01:04:18Tom Ingram
01:04:19the winner then
01:04:19from Dan Camish
01:04:20Josh Cook third
01:04:21from 14th
01:04:23in a rebuilt car
01:04:23and an independent
01:04:24category win
01:04:26Ash Sasson
01:04:26with a problem
01:04:27drops back to 4th
01:04:28Dan Rowbottom 5th
01:04:29and Jake Hill
01:04:30in 6th
01:04:317th
01:04:31his best ever
01:04:32in the BTCC
01:04:33for James Dorlin
01:04:33ahead of Adam Morgan
01:04:34then the returning
01:04:35centre Proctor
01:04:36and Daryl De Leon
01:04:37promoted to 10th
01:04:38after a penalty
01:04:39for Tom Chilton
01:04:39so that put Chris Smiley
01:04:4111th
01:04:41Aaron Taylor-Smith
01:04:4212th
01:04:42then Dan Lloyd
01:04:43ahead of Aidan Moffat
01:04:44Chilton drops to 15th
01:04:45and therefore gets
01:04:46the last championship point
01:04:48Ronan Pearson
01:04:4916th from near the back
01:04:50of the grid
01:04:50Charles Rainford
01:04:5117th after a spin
01:04:52Gordon Shedden
01:04:5318th after a spin
01:04:54Stephen Jelly
01:04:55was next
01:04:55and Dexter Patterson
01:04:56came home 20th
01:04:57it was Nicholas Hamilton
01:04:59who was in the pits
01:05:00and therefore classified
01:05:0121st
01:05:02Mikey Doble retired
01:05:03Max Hall
01:05:03and Sam Osborne
01:05:04that one
01:05:05retirement
01:05:05and that triggered
01:05:06the safety car
01:05:07remember
01:05:07so Team Virtue
01:05:10taking honours
01:05:11of course Tom Chilton
01:05:13has been a winner
01:05:13this year
01:05:14now Tom Ingram
01:05:15coming home
01:05:15victorious as well
01:05:16and those Hyundai
01:05:18still look so so fast
01:05:19and Tom Ingram
01:05:20doing that
01:05:21with just two laps
01:05:22worth of boost
01:05:23and he only used
01:05:23one of them
01:05:24he still had a lap
01:05:25of boost in hand
01:05:26at the very end
01:05:27of the race
01:05:27the car will now
01:05:28go through the
01:05:29technical checks
01:05:30the technical team
01:05:32with the marshal's
01:05:32assistance there
01:05:33ready with the roller
01:05:34to check the ride
01:05:35height of the car
01:05:35they have the scales
01:05:38to roll the car onto
01:05:39the roller is ok
01:05:41that goes under
01:05:41without issue
01:05:42then the car
01:05:44will be pushed forward
01:05:45the weight will be checked
01:05:46and then
01:05:47Tom Ingram
01:05:48will make his way
01:05:49down the pit lane
01:05:50but Team Virtue
01:05:52and Napa Racing
01:05:52they're having
01:05:53differing fortunes
01:05:54in their quest
01:05:54for leadership
01:05:55but Ash Sutton
01:05:55still leads the championship
01:05:56nine points ahead
01:05:58of Tom Ingram
01:05:59Jake Hill third
01:06:00Dan Camish fourth
01:06:01then Dan Rowbottom
01:06:02and Adam Morgan
01:06:02to round out
01:06:03the top six
01:06:04Josh Cook
01:06:04catapults up to seventh
01:06:06now ahead of Tom Chilton
01:06:07Chris Miley is ninth
01:06:08and the top ten
01:06:09rounded out
01:06:10by Charles Rainford
01:06:12so
01:06:13well done
01:06:14Tom Ingram
01:06:15at 34th career win
01:06:17winning margin
01:06:181.2 seconds
01:06:19and that might just
01:06:20have boosted the
01:06:21Tingram merchandise
01:06:22sales as well
01:06:24as yesterday
01:06:25he was encouraging
01:06:25people to go and
01:06:26buy rain gear
01:06:26today t-shirts
01:06:27on a nice dry day
01:06:29at Thraxton
01:06:30down the pit lane
01:06:31he comes then
01:06:32so from the technical
01:06:33area all the way
01:06:34down the pit lane
01:06:35they've got the
01:06:36dyed in the wool
01:06:37Tom Ingram fans
01:06:39and they will be
01:06:41very pleased indeed
01:06:42in the foreground
01:06:43mini challenge
01:06:44cars getting ready
01:06:44for their race
01:06:45but Tom Ingram
01:06:46then arrives
01:06:47at the winner's
01:06:48stop of court
01:06:49and as we've been
01:06:50saying
01:06:51that win has been
01:06:52in the post all season
01:06:53but it has finally
01:06:54come
01:06:54Tom Ingram
01:06:54it is
01:06:55who is victorious
01:06:56in race one
01:06:57here at Thruxton
01:06:58and he and Spencer
01:07:01Aldridge yet again
01:07:02produce a car
01:07:03that bagged points
01:07:04brings him closer
01:07:05to the top of the
01:07:06championship table
01:07:06in what's been
01:07:07a fascinating season
01:07:08so far
01:07:08yet another new
01:07:09winner of course
01:07:10the only double
01:07:11victor this year
01:07:11so far
01:07:12remains
01:07:13Ash Sutton
01:07:14so that's
01:07:15nine different
01:07:17winners out of
01:07:17the ten races
01:07:18Tom Ingram
01:07:18out of the car
01:07:19and a very
01:07:20happy man indeed
01:07:21he'll be able
01:07:22to talk more
01:07:22about a busy
01:07:23first race at
01:07:24Thruxton
01:07:24after the break
01:07:25round 10
01:07:32of the quick fit
01:07:33British touring car
01:07:34championship
01:07:34at Thruxton
01:07:35good start
01:07:35from Ash Sutton
01:07:36Tom Ingram
01:07:37applying the pressure
01:07:38but at the chicane
01:07:40Ingram got past Sutton
01:07:43and this was okay
01:07:44according to the stewards
01:07:45and Ingram
01:07:46was away
01:07:47the unfortunate
01:07:48Gordon Shedden
01:07:49was collected
01:07:50outwent Mikey Doble
01:07:51as well
01:07:52Kamish passed Sutton
01:07:53who seemed to be in trouble
01:07:54with a lack of power
01:07:55and the injured Josh Cook
01:07:56he grabbed a place
01:07:57on the podium
01:07:58getting past Sutton
01:08:00on the penultimate lap
01:08:01but a first win
01:08:02of the season
01:08:02for Tom Ingram
01:08:03from Dan Kamish
01:08:04and Josh Cook
01:08:05and at last
01:08:07he's a winner
01:08:08in 2025
01:08:09as you say Steve
01:08:12at last
01:08:13and Tom
01:08:13normally
01:08:13drivers come into
01:08:14the podium
01:08:14and celebrate the win
01:08:15you just gave
01:08:16a huge sigh of relief
01:08:19as you got out
01:08:19of that car
01:08:20is that how it felt
01:08:20a little bit
01:08:21yeah
01:08:21it's been funny
01:08:22because I've not been
01:08:23too aware of it
01:08:24that everyone's said
01:08:24you haven't won a race
01:08:25this year
01:08:25I've not really been
01:08:26that fussed
01:08:26to be honest
01:08:27really
01:08:27but every so often
01:08:28people go
01:08:28you've still not won one yet
01:08:29can you try and win one
01:08:30okay I'll try my best
01:08:31so yeah
01:08:33just a sigh of relief
01:08:34more than anything else
01:08:34just to try to
01:08:35you know
01:08:36finally get one
01:08:36get one back
01:08:37so really good
01:08:39really really tight race
01:08:40spicy race
01:08:42lots of
01:08:42it was
01:08:42just tell us about
01:08:43that moment
01:08:44at the chicane
01:08:45I mean the second time around
01:08:47because you had a moment there
01:08:48first time around
01:08:49before the restart as well
01:08:50but the second one
01:08:51well the first one was close
01:08:52because I thought I was ahead
01:08:53at the safety car boards
01:08:54by the time of the safety car boards
01:08:56I thought I was ahead personally
01:08:57so when Ash came sailing back through
01:08:58we'll have a look at that afterwards
01:09:01and then the move up towards the chicane
01:09:03on the lap after
01:09:05or however long it was
01:09:06it was close
01:09:07I got hit from
01:09:08I got hit fairly early on
01:09:09very similar to what happened
01:09:10to me last year in race three
01:09:13with Adam
01:09:14I've got no option
01:09:15you know
01:09:15at some point I've got to
01:09:16you know
01:09:17I've got to try and
01:09:18try and not have a crash
01:09:19so yeah
01:09:20at that point
01:09:20I had no option
01:09:21I had to jump
01:09:22so yielded the time back
01:09:25that I gained
01:09:26which is the rules
01:09:27so yeah
01:09:28I'm sure there'll be a moan about it
01:09:29of course
01:09:29but no
01:09:30first one
01:09:32very very pleased
01:09:33very very pleased
01:09:34as Team Virtue
01:09:34we've done a great job
01:09:35fair play to Josh
01:09:38for coming through
01:09:38as well
01:09:38that's an incredible result
01:09:39but yeah
01:09:41that one was for
01:09:42that was for Laura
01:09:43she was an angel
01:09:44yeah
01:09:44so she sat with my mum
01:09:46so my dad could come along
01:09:47to watch the race
01:09:48so it was
01:09:48yeah
01:09:49that was for Laura
01:09:49well I'm sure your mum
01:09:50would have enjoyed that one as well
01:09:52so
01:09:52and obviously
01:09:53Ash Sutton
01:09:54having his
01:09:55loss of power
01:09:57paved the way for Dan
01:09:58for you to come through
01:09:59I mean at what point
01:10:00did the team tell you that
01:10:01or you could just see
01:10:02that he's slowing down
01:10:03something happened to Ash
01:10:04sort of down here
01:10:05on the pitch straight
01:10:06I knew he'd
01:10:08sort of lost a little bit
01:10:09to Tom
01:10:10that he hadn't had
01:10:11lost the lap before
01:10:12so I suspected
01:10:13maybe some sort of
01:10:14tyre failure
01:10:14you know
01:10:14we've had that occasionally
01:10:15but no
01:10:16then I got told
01:10:17look at loss of power
01:10:18and Ash sort of
01:10:20made the door
01:10:20nice and wide
01:10:21for me to drive through
01:10:22so yeah
01:10:23in the end
01:10:24a sensible result
01:10:25it would have been
01:10:25a fairly clear P3
01:10:26which turned into a P2
01:10:27well done
01:10:28well done
01:10:29and I've got to save
01:10:30a bit of time
01:10:30to speak to this man
01:10:31I think the hero
01:10:31of the day
01:10:32P14 to P3
01:10:34with what I've no doubt
01:10:35is still a rather painful foot
01:10:37what a drive that was
01:10:38yeah
01:10:39thank you
01:10:39I mean it's
01:10:39obviously a credit
01:10:42the car was
01:10:43a pretty sorry state
01:10:46after qualifying yesterday
01:10:47and it's a credit
01:10:47to the team
01:10:48that they managed to
01:10:48all the prep work
01:10:50they do back at base
01:10:50that's all for situations
01:10:52like that
01:10:53and we always talk about
01:10:53everybody's working so hard
01:10:55but actually seeing
01:10:56the work that they do
01:10:57come into action
01:10:58is rare
01:10:59and they've literally bolted
01:11:00it's a full front end
01:11:01on that car
01:11:02everything from
01:11:03the windscreen Fords
01:11:04is new
01:11:04and the first time
01:11:06I got to drive it
01:11:07was on the out lap
01:11:07for that race
01:11:08so to be able to have
01:11:09that confidence
01:11:10to push on lap one
01:11:11and the car be exactly
01:11:12as I know it
01:11:12as I say
01:11:13as a credit
01:11:13to all the hard work
01:11:15that Paul Hartley
01:11:15and the team
01:11:15do back at base
01:11:17so yeah
01:11:17I'm pleased with that
01:11:18pleased to recover
01:11:19some sort of result
01:11:21after what was
01:11:22a disappointing
01:11:23qualifying yesterday
01:11:24a small mistake
01:11:25on my part
01:11:25and I still want more
01:11:28we need to try
01:11:29and get up on that
01:11:29top step
01:11:29but that's a good start
01:11:31very briefly
01:11:31how is the foot?
01:11:33yeah it's good
01:11:33he's lying
01:11:35I bet he's lying
01:11:36but anyway
01:11:37well done
01:11:37well done to Josh
01:11:38right we are
01:11:39I'm going to head
