00:08insurance before travelling abroad. Local travel services report a rise in inquiries about
00:13vaccinations and safety advice, showing that people are taking precautions to protect their
00:18health overseas. Travel-associated chikungunya cases are increasing in the UK, with 73 infections
00:25recorded in England between January and June, compared to 27 during the same period last
00:30year. Most cases were linked to travel in Sri Lanka, India and Mauritius. Chikungunya
00:35is a mosquito-borne virus that can cause fever, joint pain, skin rashes and fatigue, with some
00:40symptoms lasting months or years. Vaccinations are available privately after professional
00:45assessment. Travellers should use repellent, cover exposed skin and sleep under insecticide-treated
00:51nets. Mosquitoes capable of spreading the virus are not present in the UK, so there is no
00:56risk of local transmission.
