00:00:00And the vehicle's leaving the pit lane now for the Virtue Mini Challenge.
00:00:05They've got a bit of a damp track that they're heading out to, but they're keen to race.
00:00:09This is only their second race of the weekend, so let's go to our commentators, Paul O'Neill and Richard John Neill.
00:00:21So here we go then with a damp track. Sorry for the delay there.
00:00:25Just welcoming Paul back into the box and sorting ourselves out.
00:00:29I'm wondering really how this is going to play out.
00:00:31We had a very interesting time yesterday for the Virtue Motors Mini Challenge.
00:00:36Interesting weekend because it is only two races at Allnepart.
00:00:40We had two last year and just the two this year.
00:00:43So it's a weird weekend for some of them.
00:00:45I think a couple of teams have been quite happy with various problems and stuff going on.
00:00:49Nathan Edwards springs to mind last year, double winner this year.
00:00:52Just problems galore, but you've been out there more recently than I have.
00:00:57Is it getting worse?
00:00:57Well, yeah, I'll be dead honest.
00:01:00If you're not on a wet tyre, you are in trouble.
00:01:04The one thing I will say, Izzy, one of our ITV sport reporters, was telling me they are all buzzing down in there.
00:01:11Well, they were all buzzing before they went to the grid because they want a wet race.
00:01:14And Alex Solly in particular.
00:01:16She told me that as well.
00:01:17It must be important then.
00:01:17You were very important.
00:01:18Literally, she interrupted a live broadcast.
00:01:21No, I'm joking.
00:01:21She didn't.
00:01:22So she was just telling me on the way over here that, yeah, they're all looking forward to it.
00:01:25I'm looking forward to it, fella.
00:01:27But it hasn't rained properly for a while.
00:01:30And this won't just be wet.
00:01:32It will be horrifically greasy.
00:01:34That's the problem.
00:01:35Do any of the officials get a chance to sort of read the right act in the holding area?
00:01:41I mean, Ria will be there with her whistle.
00:01:43And the viewers won't know what we're talking about.
00:01:44But Ria Beauchamp, who organises the championship, in fine style, it has to be said, we'll shout at them and tell them what's what.
00:01:52But they'll be aware of the conditions for sure.
00:01:53But sometimes you need that little extra nudge just to let you know that you've got to be careful.
00:01:57Extra green flag, like maybe?
00:01:59Yeah, I mean, that looks like a slick tyre.
00:02:02I would like to see a proper look at that because, I mean, it'd be good to see what people are on.
00:02:09And we need to have a look.
00:02:10Maybe Matt Salisbury from Mini Challenge can actually get in touch with us maybe and tell us.
00:02:16Because, yeah, there's a better shot.
00:02:19That's a slick tyre.
00:02:20Oh, my word.
00:02:22There's a lot of people on the wrong tyre in my eyes.
00:02:24The yellow side tells us, yeah, that it's slick tyres.
00:02:29You can tell how they're getting away.
00:02:30They're all wheel spinning.
00:02:31I would say most of them are on slicks.
00:02:33This is going to be a big call.
00:02:36There's some tyres that have got kind of like worn away on the side.
00:02:40The actual Goodyear logo.
00:02:41So they may be wet, but we'll still find out.
00:02:44We'll see how aggressive they weave.
00:02:45But to answer your question, there'll be a lot of respect between these drivers.
00:02:49But respect only goes so far, Richard, when you're going into a really short braking zone.
00:02:54Absolutely right.
00:02:54And particularly around Alton Park.
00:02:55So we'll see how it all pans out.
00:02:58But we've had a few stories so far this weekend, including a win for Max Edmondson.
00:03:04A first win for Max yesterday.
00:03:06Started six on the grid yesterday and came through in three laps.
00:03:11People said, oh, well, we're looking forward to Alton.
00:03:13But, of course, it's less overtaking.
00:03:14Max Edmondson didn't worry about that till he's coming up from six.
00:03:17Taking a win.
00:03:18First win for Max.
00:03:19First win for Pro Alloys as well.
00:03:21So mega job for them in the championship.
00:03:23What have I said about that, lad?

00:03:49And we go on to the second race of the weekend for the Virtuomotors Mini Challenge.
00:03:55And Polk position goes to Tom Ovenden.
00:03:57He has a double pole this weekend.
00:03:59Josh Polk, Josh Porter will line up alongside.
00:04:03Let's go through it formally.
00:04:05Round eight of the championship.
00:04:06Tom Ovenden on pole from Josh Porter and Lewis Selby.

00:04:10Max Edmondson, the man we were just talking about, is in fifth.
00:04:13Nathan Edwards, sixth.
00:04:14More to that story as well.
00:04:15Row four, Albert Webster and Alex Solly.
00:04:18Then it's Harry Hickton and Harry Campy.
00:04:20Owen Hillman and Charlie Hand on the sixth row,
00:04:23followed by Ned Anthony and Cameron Richardson.
00:04:26Then Jacob Hodgkiss and Jamie Osborne, the championship leader, back on row eight.
00:04:31The sport category headed by Chris McKenzie from Archie Johnson.
00:04:35So Bitcoin and Jam Sport ahead of JRW Racing's Ben Crossley.
00:04:39Nicky Gauci is next up from Henry Howarth and the grid completed by Accelerate's Will Crooks.
00:04:45So that's how they line up with Tom Ovenden on pole position, who has had a lot of pole positions this year and racking up some decent points.
00:04:57Looks like the officials happy with everything at the moment, whether they'll still be happy after the first couple of corners remains to be seen.
00:05:05Yeah, I am.
00:05:06I am intrigued.
00:05:08This looks like a slick race and not one driver.
00:05:13Charlie Hand has come in and that will be hopefully not a retirement.
00:05:16That should be to change to wets.
00:05:19We're going to know pretty soon.
00:05:20And this could be that really does look like a slick tie to me.
00:05:24I'm a bit worried about this, Rich, but let's see what we get.
00:05:26Yeah, all we can do is call it as it happens and fingers crossed for everyone.

00:05:37It's a good start from Tom Ovenden.
00:05:39And they're all the way well.
00:05:40It looks like a slightly recalcitrant start for Max Edmonton, who we wanted to keep an eye on.
00:05:45But it's Lewis Selby looking to go up into second position.
00:05:50Oh, there I did.
00:05:51Off goes Alex Solly.
00:05:53That's Izzy Browning's fault, that.
00:05:55Yeah.
00:05:55Well, he was looking forward to it.
00:05:57It looked like he was looking forward to it a bit too much.
00:05:59But the front lot have got away.
00:06:01We're going to know what the sketch is when we get to the hairpin.
00:06:03And as I say, I'm just hoping they really go steady and respect each other.
00:06:08It's so difficult down here.
00:06:10Solly's going to cause a safety car.
00:06:11Yeah, for sure.
00:06:12And that won't be a bad thing.
00:06:13I mean, the car doesn't look too damaged.
00:06:15It is beached, but it will just give everybody that chance to slow down and evaluate the circuit a little bit more once the safety car is deployed.
00:06:23But Tom Ovenden getting away well on the start.
00:06:28They're definitely on slicks, aren't they?
00:06:30Yeah.
00:06:30Do you know, can I just say, good year, make an amazing slick, because I cannot look how well in the working in the well.
00:06:37It must be a softer compound than I think, because I've driven these cars in these kind of conditions on slick tyres, and it was a different compound then.
00:06:45And it was really, really, really difficult.
00:06:47But they're all side by side, but we've got to be careful of those white lines, the wet curves.
00:06:52But, oh, we've got to be careful of that as well.
00:06:54But next corner coming up, Druid, there's a safety car now, but Druid is the one you've got to be careful of.
00:06:59Will anybody pit on their safety car?
00:07:02Well, that's the question, isn't it?
00:07:04We've already got the manpower motorsport car for Charlie Hand in Pirlane, so Charlie might have played a blinder here to come through.
00:07:12We'll see how it pans out.

00:07:14Is he going to get out before the safety car?
00:07:16Because if he does, wow.
00:07:18Yeah, this is going to be interesting.
00:07:20Could be, I think he will, Paul, because they're just exiting the final corner, that looks like.

00:07:52So how fast on a catch-up lap can you go with the safety car boards out and the yellows?
00:07:58A lot faster on wet tyres if he's on wet tyres.
00:08:01You've just, at the end of the day, Richard, you've just not got to crash.
00:08:05If you crash under yellows, you are an idiot.
00:08:07You deserve to have everything thrown at you.
00:08:10That's my personal opinion.
00:08:12You just can't do that.
00:08:14We've made mistakes, but, you know, being silly and going off at full speed,
00:08:18it's ridiculous.
00:08:21Hopefully, Hand will know by seeing what he's seen.
00:08:24It ain't going to be half a lap and it's clear.
00:08:27He'll get round no problem.
00:08:28Interesting if we can go back and see how fast he's actually going.
00:08:31Now he's on screen.
00:08:33So I just want to look at the spray off them tyres.
00:08:36They're wet.
00:08:37And that is an absolute legendary call.
00:08:40We've got 21 minutes of this race to go.
00:08:43How hard is it going to rain?
00:08:44He's got his windscreen wipers on.

00:08:49Charlie Hand had a massive injury here a couple of years ago,
00:08:51and I know he's a little bit mindful of that coming back here this weekend
00:08:54and said to me yesterday with his dad that he was doing a bit of a rain dance.
00:08:58So this may have played out well for him,
00:09:00but he's handled his return to Alton Park exceptionally well this weekend,
00:09:03this young man.
00:09:04Here's the start.
00:09:05So, yeah, you see a lot of people get wheel spin.
00:09:07Just look three rows back.
00:09:08Look at the car of Max Edmondson.
00:09:11Just wheel spinning.
00:09:12Cars left and right of him.
00:09:13And then what do we see of Alex Solly in the number 12?
00:09:17He's right of your screen.
00:09:18He just locks up, gets on the white line,
00:09:21doesn't touch the barrier there, but clouts it there
00:09:24and also vibrates the camera, cameraman's stand.
00:09:28So, yeah, really, really difficult start to this race.
00:09:31But look, everyone on the outside just having no grip
00:09:33and people just trying to get the traction out.
00:09:35Just that's normal stuff there, getting into each other
00:09:38with the wrong tyre on.
00:09:41Coming in out of Nickerbrook,
00:09:43and that's just, again, side by side.
00:09:46And that's Albert Webster, isn't it, getting involved on that.
00:09:48And then watch this now as the car just pulls itself
00:09:50back across the crowd.

00:10:06The reason, right, the reason you're seeing Charlie Hand doing that
00:10:12is because he has locked the fronts up.
00:10:14So, he isn't trying to catch up quicker.
00:10:16He basically just didn't want to go across the grass.
00:10:18Interesting, he's locked fronts up with wet tyres,
00:10:20on which I think he's on.
00:10:21There's no other tyre he can be on.
00:10:23So, the only thing I could think is that he's been on wets
00:10:27and he's gone back to slicks,
00:10:29but that would be a savage thing to do.
00:10:32Looks pretty much...
00:10:34It looks OK, doesn't it?
00:10:34Yeah, it looks like he's going well.
00:10:36So, I don't think you'd get a penalty for that.
00:10:38But, I don't know, things surprise me.
00:10:41He's got a little bit of a way to catch up, though,
00:10:42yet, hasn't he?
00:10:43Yeah, he has got a way to go.
00:10:44New livery, you might remember, he was all orange,
00:10:46previously, when we saw Charlie Hand,
00:10:47but he's got some blue and the family company there
00:10:50on the side of the car now,
00:10:51which is a nice-looking car.
00:10:53It was a great-looking car anyway,
00:10:55but the family have bedded themselves
00:10:57into the championship quite well
00:10:58and given the car a good look,
00:11:01he is, yeah, so he's still trying to close up
00:11:04as best he can.
00:11:05He's got a fair way to go.

00:11:10they won't be weaving that much.

00:11:53He would have been aware of the zone
00:11:55where the marshals were trying to attend to the car.
00:11:57So just to put that in perspective,
00:11:59but lights out on the safety car now,
00:12:01we're getting ready to race with Tom Ovenden there
00:12:04from Lewis Selby.
00:12:06Then it is Porter, Edwards next up,
00:12:08Harry Campy, top rookie.
00:12:09He's up in fifth position.
00:12:11And Harry in the blue number 13.
00:12:13We'll see what he can do,
00:12:14but this is now down to Tom Ovenden,
00:12:16the ex-rallycross racer,
00:12:18so he'll be used to slippery conditions.

00:35:09fast teammate caught me up and tried to overtake me on every single corner but
00:35:13no that was a that was a superb race thoroughly enjoyed it I don't want to do
00:35:18it again though I'm glad it's over but yeah great to win for everybody at Napa
00:35:23Auto Parts there's a lot of guys here so thank you for supporting us and yeah
00:35:26very enjoyable race first bit of the season for you as well it's been coming
00:35:29it's been coming but it's it's yours now yeah to be fair I've made quite a few
00:35:33mistakes this year I've not really delivered a race as good as that and I
00:35:36think that was the first time I have delivered a race with not many mistakes
00:35:39so it's pleasing to do that and it's great to share the podium with my
00:35:42teammate Jamie who's on absolute fire this year Jamie let's bring you in at
00:35:45this point just tell us a little bit about that that battle between the two
00:35:47of you because obviously clearly you wanted to get past but difficult with
00:35:51those conditions because it was a bit wet offline wasn't it yeah I think I'd have
00:35:54risked it a little bit more if it wasn't my teammate but no it's it were a
00:36:00great race the car was just on it from start to finish and we just had to make
00:36:04the most of it really yeah I was making little mistakes here and there when I
00:36:08was behind Lewis and I think you could see it at one point but I tried my best
00:36:11but ultimately I let the best man win oh man the old man sorry sorry sorry I love
00:36:19that let him win but suffice to say though great to finish on the podium
00:36:23after I mean when you think where you were after qualifying and the
00:36:26frustrations then it's a great fight back isn't it yeah obviously we've had a
00:36:30very tough weekend this weekend no fault to anyone I think we just had a bit of an
00:36:34unlucky weekend but no the boys at Napa have really got us back on track and
00:36:39yeah big thanks to Napa Auto Parts and Napa Racing for giving us the best car out
00:36:43there good stuff got your name checks in there well done and Josh let's bring in
00:36:46you in at this point I mean p3 a difficult race to manage for everybody with a lot
00:36:51of time and behind the safety car but boy when it came in those two were off
00:36:54weren't they completely I could not keep up with them I was too busy trying to keep
00:36:58on the road so it's so hard trying to stay on the pace with the top guys it's
00:37:03just and keeping on track at the same time without making any mistakes so I'm glad I
00:37:07stayed on track I'm glad I got a podium couldn't quite get in between them but I'm
00:37:11happy where we are what was going through your mind on that on that final lap
00:37:14because you know still a lot of work to do to bring it home wasn't there oh
00:37:18definitely there's a lot of no especially having Tom right on my back at the end I
00:37:21was trying to just hold him up in some of the corners and try and get out okay and
00:37:24we managed so yeah it's all right good stuff well done it was a great race great
00:37:28race to watch them fantastic final couple of laps at the end there and
00:37:32hopefully some more fantastic racing coming up with the Formula 4 cars out for
00:37:35their final race of the day that's going to be after this short break
00:37:42two races left here at Alton Park we've got round 15 of the British Touring Car
00:37:47Championship about 45 minutes away this though is the final support race of the
00:37:51weekend for the runners in the F4 British Championship Finn McLaughlin who
00:37:55took over the championship lead earlier today he's on the front row alongside
00:37:59Martin Molnar round 15 as I say Phil glue Richard John Neil are in the commentary box
00:38:05thanks very much Steve underway we go a little bit damp out there and Phil I've got
00:38:10to ask is that is I mean they're all on slicks but how careful have they got to be
00:38:14over the opening laps yeah to be honest it's actually drier than you think it's
00:38:17actually the start finish line that's pretty wet and so that's going to cool
00:38:21the tires when they go into turn one but I think the rest of the lap is pretty dry it's
00:38:25quite warm out there the minis have dried it out if you go offline yes it's a
00:38:29little bit damp but everyone is on slicks we have checked but it's the
00:38:32overtakes that are going to be interesting when they're when they're going offline
00:38:35to try and pass someone else that's when they could have a lock-off and then it
00:38:38could get interesting probably expect maybe less overtake attempts in this one
00:38:42because this this is the grid based on fastest from qualifying a previous race
00:38:47was partial reverse and we've got the mended result for that as well which we'll talk
00:38:51to you about as we run through so round 15 halfway point of the championship season
00:38:57Martin Molnar double pole this weekend Fionn McLaughlin the championship leader
00:39:01alongside Chase Fernandes on the second row great qualifying from Chase
00:39:05Ari Bansal the newcomer last time out he's done well too and he's next up from
00:39:09Thomas Behrman and Henry Jocelyn Rowan Campbell-Pilling starts on row 4 from
00:39:15Theo Palmer and then Ethan Jeff Hall, August Raber, Jimmy Pizik and Henry Mercia on row 6 the 7th row
00:39:23Leo Robinson, Adam Alazari from Yu Haafu and Tommy Harfield then it's Xavier Avramides and Ella
00:39:29Lloyder camera car on row 9 the grid completed by Cole Hewittson and Elba Larson
00:39:35so I think quite a few drivers have been having issues with either jump starts or not getting off off the line
00:39:43and they've got a I was gonna say a break to deal with it but they haven't because they're at the British GP meeting in a couple of weeks
00:39:49but it is a big issue isn't it
00:39:51yeah it is yesterday's first race there was a lot lots of people stalling
00:39:55so obviously there's a few clutch issues I think that people are having
00:39:59and then today it was jump start so I think well Campbell-Pilling made a hell of a jump start
00:40:05I think it was when the red lights came on rather than when they went out
00:40:07and someone else it was Raber he got a jump start so it was he actually finished second on the track
00:40:13it was yeah and his teammate Mercia jumped to second and Raber is now third so yeah great result for Mercia on his debut podium
00:40:23and you know moving from third to second it's a great result for him
00:40:27but yeah let's see how this third race of the day or so weekend is going to pan out
00:40:33obviously like you said it's a little bit damp on the start line so you're going to see lots of wheelspin on the start
00:40:37but then it should settle down once they get a little bit heat into the tyres
00:40:41start's going to be crucial here as it was yesterday Martin Molnar in blue
00:40:45for Virtuosi with Phil McLaughlin who in the same position yesterday outgunned the pole man down into turn one
00:40:53let's see if he does it again today as the lights go out he does he gets a good start
00:40:57it's McLaughlin and I'll tell you what Molnar knew that and he slots into second straight away
00:41:01coming up into third is Harry Bansal the first of the Fortec runners in white and red
00:41:07but that was uh by the look of it a good clean start yeah it was actually yeah
00:41:11McLaughlin got a great start on the outside line he was on a better line got through the corner
00:41:15in first place so let's see if Molnar can chase him down for the for the win
00:41:21but as you can see Ella Lloyd in the Excel car it's been put wide there
00:41:25she's lucky to get away with that but uh that could have been a lot bigger
00:41:29um but she can see she's just gone down the inside and kept that position I think
00:41:33so great driver from Ella Lloyd to have that uh that wide moment on the grass
00:41:37obviously the tyres cooled very quickly then she had a little lock up into the hairpin
00:41:41yeah it was Cole Hewittson that was going past so she did lose momentum in a couple of bases there
00:41:45but trying to damage limitation for Ella now which is a pity they are so so fast here I say
00:41:51damp conditions but basically everybody having a decent enough start with McLaughlin having the
00:41:57the best of that start as the uh lower midfield runners head their way up at Clay Hill I think
00:42:04towards Druids for the first time championship wise they say that it was a little bit of a change around
00:42:10wasn't it in the reverse grid race and McLaughlin now with a two-point lead over Molnar
00:42:15so it might change a little bit actually no it won't because McLaughlin
00:42:18as you might know didn't get any more points did he because of the amended result
00:42:22Ella Lloyd though back on the offensive goes on the outside run and getting stuck in that's Leo Robinson on the inside
00:42:28great bit of racing between the pair and very close
00:42:31oh you can see Alazari having a big lock up there as he's going into turn one which is an unusual place to lock up
00:42:36he didn't want to hit his teammate going into T1 there so yeah just pulled out of that one
00:42:41so that he didn't uh he didn't have a big collision it is like I said a little bit damp off line
00:42:46so that's another reason why some of these guys are going to be having lock ups but yeah McLaughlin doing a great job out front leading at the minute with Molnar in second
00:42:53Bansal in the Vortec car in third he's having a great first uh second weekend out in British F4
00:43:00great for Vortec to have two drivers racing as well two quick drivers
00:43:03two obviously we saw the solo entry in the first couple of rounds grabbing pole position so we knew the pace was there in the team
00:43:09but uh it does nothing but help doesn't it when you've got a couple of couple of teammates who can add to the data and work together
00:43:14absolutely it's so important that's why I feel sorry for people like Molnar who's on his own at the minute
00:43:19and obviously Campbell Pilling he's on his own with JHR so yeah the more the more drivers you can have in the team
00:43:26the more data you've got the more speed you can get out of each of the drivers
00:43:30so yeah it's all about comparing sort of brake shapes throttle shapes oh big moment there for McLaughlin
00:43:35he locked the rears by the looks of it on the down changes so yeah he collected that nicely then had a small
00:43:40lock up on the front left so uh or front right sorry so yeah collected that one nicely but he is pushing hard
00:43:47fastest lap as well 22-5 yeah first flyer he's got the clear track and uh Phil McLaughlin
00:43:52I'm trying to get my head around what happened in the first few rounds with with him I mean he was on the podium wasn't he
00:43:57at Donington but it's like now he's starting to exert that not wanting dominance at the moment but
00:44:04I suppose it is actually because he's you know he's in front again second fastest off the front race
00:44:09so yeah he's doing superbly yeah he certainly is he was always there in the first few races to be fair to him
00:44:15as you can see we've got a Campbell Pilling there and I think that's uh Rayburn
00:44:19who's running side by side through the hairpin he's now got the switcheroo on him but now Campbell Pilling's just closed it off
00:44:24and uh yeah good good driving there from Campbell Pilling
00:44:29was indeed Chase Fernandes down in six from the third place start so
00:44:33oh Rayburn went for a late move Campbell Pilling decided not to turn in but now
00:44:38he's gone across the grass yeah it was really his corner but
00:44:42Rayburn just showed his nose there and uh yeah it just put Campbell Pilling off which
00:44:46unfortunately in that type of corner you've got nowhere to go apart from over the grass
00:44:50so he's collected it well but yeah just not having much look that boy is he
00:44:54he is not he'll right off the first half of the season and move on to the second half which will
00:44:59it's very late then yep and he's and he's on a damp patch
00:45:02it was Campbell Pilling that they did the right thing there because if he had turned in which he had every right to
00:45:08he would have caused a collision so yeah um good bit of driving like I know he's lost a place or two but
00:45:14he's still in the race is Rayburn gonna get a penalty for that no I don't think so
00:45:19no I think he he showed his nose that there was no collision they ran side by side
00:45:24I think there was I think it was a bit of I think they might have back wheels do you think
00:45:27yeah maybe we'll have another look maybe later on but yeah I think you'll be right
00:45:31I just thought Campbell Pilling thought better of it and uh and just just decided to send it over the grass
00:45:38it's it's a good option because you've then got the track the other side of the grass so it's you know
00:45:43you're pretty safe to rejoin
00:45:45well so McLaughlin out front uh Molnar, Bunceau it'd be good if he gets a podium wouldn't it
00:45:50in his second meeting yeah doing the the limited campaign and not even as many of those as he probably can do
00:45:56Bebben running well too again he's second position in the rookies fourth position overall
00:46:01Henry Jocelyn having a good run as well Chase Fernandes in sixth place
00:46:05then we've got Reva Pezik who obviously started on the front row the reverse grid race has come up into eighth place
00:46:10so he's in the championship points for this one no points for passes in this one there is one point for fastest lap
00:46:16in two points as well for the pole position at the start of the meeting which unusually gets added to the
00:46:22second fastest race race result
00:46:26just looking at Jeff Paul he's actually started ninth and you can see he's pushing hard to try and get past Theo Palmer
00:46:32but yeah he's dropped to 13th I'm not sure exactly what happened to him earlier on in the race but you can see now
00:46:37he's all over the back with the CDR car chasing him down now we've got a bit of rain we hear so this is going to make
00:46:42things interesting and spice things up a little bit as you can see Harfield they're spinning across the circuit
00:46:48everyone's avoided him but as I said the rain was coming he managed to lock up lose the rear and unfortunately I think
00:46:55that was actually Jeff Hall who was trying to avoid him
00:46:59it was this is the view from Ella Lloyd so this is giving us a view as to we can't quite see how much rain is coming down
00:47:06but Ash Sutton was talking at the end of the second touring car race that the rain was expected to be here
00:47:12or return for their third race and we're all about that time now
00:47:15yeah exactly and it's uh yeah it did start to rain a little bit at the end of the touring car race but you can see Harfield
00:47:21down the inside big lock up he's tried to save it but unfortunately fair play to Jeff Hall he's managed to avoid that
00:47:27because that could have been a big accident
00:47:29yeah that was uh that had me holding my breath I've got to say

00:47:34we can see on board with Ella Lloyd exactly what happened
00:47:36she can see it all as you can see she decided to go to the inside
00:47:41which is the right move aim for the car if the car is going to the outside of the track you should be fine just to carry on
00:47:47and you can see oh they're all going off
00:47:49all going off at the last corner that's the leader that's second that's third
00:47:53they've all gone wide because it's obviously rained heavily and you can see
00:47:56oh has he got a damage there with the Vortech car of Bansall
00:48:00yeah so that's Behrman leading
00:48:02wow it's uh
00:48:05they're gonna surely they're gonna stop this that you've got a car across the pit wall there
00:48:09at the very least a safety car if the rain gets worse the officials will be having very urgent considerations as to what they need to do
00:48:17but it's Thomas Behrman leading it now
00:48:19see these guys that were further back they could see what was happening they were all struggling to get the car stopped
00:48:25so they managed to break a little bit earlier just so that they didn't follow them through the gravel
00:48:29but we'll have a replay of that in a second of exactly what happened but just so you know now Behrman Jocelyn Fernandes is the top three
00:48:35and that is Bansall who's I think he had damage because he was struggling to get on the throttle coming out of the last corner and over the brow
00:48:43and to the start finish straight
00:48:45so is that the case of the drivers that going off just literally being the first on the new conditions and catching them out and the rest of them see that and can back off
00:48:51exactly that and you can see with that off there the red ball car of McLaughlin he's got that front wing stuck under the car there
00:48:59which is not going to give him any obviously no front end grip anyway without any aero but also it's lifting the bottom of the car up higher now
00:49:07so he's gonna have to come in and get rid of that and get a new nose on and he needs to do it while he's under the safety car
00:49:11this was not foreseen I really didn't see all of this starting to play out let's have a recap and a re-look at what happened
00:49:21so it's obviously rainy you can't really see it on the TV there but it's raining a bit harder because you can see all these guys in the top there
00:49:27they've all locked up they all run wide now you can see it on the camera he's obviously broken his front wing as he's gone through the gravel or as he's rejoined
00:49:35oh no he's got it collected he's been collected by the Fortec car of Bansal Bansal then he's got rear left suspension damage by the looks of it
00:49:43because that is why he couldn't carry on yeah you can see the rear left now is just hanging on and I think that's what's what spits him across the circuit
00:49:51as he tries to get on the power because he doesn't realize that he's got any damage oh this could have been huge
00:49:57everyone's avoided that we could have had two really big ones in this race I'm so grateful that we haven't
00:50:02drivers okay they get a chance to calm down they get a chance to not they needed calming down per se but they just
00:50:08gets a chance to take a breather take stock of what's happening safety team just nipping down to check that as you can see
00:50:17Harry's out the car which is which is the good news he's okay and had pace as well so Fortec back as we said earlier on
00:50:25in the second race of the weekend Fortec having the pace and just the change of conditions catching everyone out there
00:50:32exactly that and uh yeah real shame for for Bansal there he's been flying since he joined the
00:50:38championship and uh showing some real pace in testing so he didn't deserve that accident there
00:50:43which uh yeah it's put him out of the race because all it was he's just running a little bit wide if he
00:50:47hadn't have caught the wing of uh McLaughlin he would have been able to carry on and uh and you know
00:50:52finish the race but yeah really unfortunate the handy thing is actually right by the medical center you can see
00:50:58he's okay and it is just precautionary that they take him over and get to have a look the meatball
00:51:03flag as we call it being shown to McLaughlin that's because he's got that bit of that wing wedged under
00:51:10the car and what the organizers don't want is that to fly off and hit a marshal or well in there
00:51:16somewhere else in race two we talked about a Lloyd's front wing which was slightly damaged and they let her
00:51:21carry on because it wasn't as bad as this and uh this is what i was talking about in uh race two of the
00:51:25weekend uh where they do show them the meatball flag the uh mechanical issue uh flag which means
00:51:33that he does need to pit um hopefully they'll tell him on the radio as well so that he can uh get that
00:51:39changed as quickly as possible so he can join the train of cars he's coming into the pits now he would
00:51:44want to stay out because there are championship ramifications as we get to
00:51:47i think that was mercia that was trying to avoid that yeah so he's uh he's done a great job not to
00:51:55get collected by uh the forte car of bansal yeah championship ramifications here obviously
00:52:01mclaughlin was in sixth place went on to finish ahead of martin molnar but now molnar mclaughlin will
00:52:08come into the pits molnar's running ninth he'll go up to eighth which will be two points now depending
00:52:13on who gets the fastest lap mclaughlin's best bet for championship lead here phil is to get fastest
00:52:17lap absolutely he'll be out of the points points aren't going to count here are they i don't think
00:52:20the only problem is is it started to rain obviously and the lap was done earlier when it was drier so
00:52:25he's going to struggle to do a better lap time now but there is plenty of time there's there's 13 and
00:52:30a half minutes left so it could dry again and he could he could do a lap but um but he's got it in
00:52:35his pocket kind of thing exactly um but that's impressive work from high tech to get that front wing
00:52:39change as quick as they have because he's going to be joining the back of this train ready for the
00:52:43the restart of this race that's why high tech leading the team's championship at the moment
00:52:46road in second virtually third or genti are fourth in the team standings and it has been a very close
00:52:53year that we've had so far but what about this situation that thomas bettman finds himself
00:52:57in here he had a reverse grid pole at silverstone on his debut last year and now finds himself in front
00:53:03on merit we've got to say um his dad david's here this weekend and watching he's going to be enjoying it
00:53:09he's going to be very keen to see how it goes yeah david's really pleased with his progress so far
00:53:14i was talking to him earlier and he's so happy with how well he's doing how well he's uh he's improving
00:53:18every weekend so yeah let's uh let's see if um the younger bearman can do the job here the safety car
00:53:24lights are out he's weaving to get as much heat in the tires he can let's see if he can uh outsmart
00:53:30jocelyn in the vortex car
00:53:31getting ready to come racing once again so bearman jocelyn fernandez jimmy pazik is now up into
00:53:39fourth place he wouldn't have predicted that great restart there by bearman who goes across the line
00:53:46and will lead from jocelyn fernandez pazik alazari this mclaughlin uh was in sixth place he will of course
00:53:53have come in so mercy are now six raven next up from molnar in eighth place and then campbell pilling ninth
00:53:59from vio colna to the kings and the argenti teammates clash off goes another wing more bodywork going off as well
00:54:07yeah i think that's a front wing and maybe a puncture from the two argenticas unless mercy got away with it
00:54:12but i think is that jeff hall or was it raver that's got the front wing damage that is a real shame
00:54:19just from having a little bit of contact through two on big lock up there from raver as he's got no front wing
00:54:25jimmy pazik looking around the outside for third place on chase fernandez i think he's got the job done
00:54:29it looked like it didn't it you can see leo robinson as well trying to get a run on the uh on the
00:54:34argenti mercia car so yeah look at this the absolute alazari it's not physique it's alazari it's come
00:54:39through alazari is now in third fernandez fourth oh big moment there for jocelyn it was well we saw it
00:54:46as a roadie car but it's alazari up into third place as jocelyn collects it all back up and that
00:54:51will be great for alazari here's the replay yeah you can see now raver's gone down the inside
00:54:56oh just caught the rear right of mercy and that's taking his front wing off and then someone's hit
00:55:00it sent it off the track so hopefully that's not going to affect anything for the rest of the race
00:55:05again lloyd's got the best we've got a red flag we have a red flag now because i think there's just
00:55:12too much carnage yeah that'll be race over as well i think it'll be a red and checker we are we're
00:55:18about 10 minutes to go so half distance is that half points or not i don't know we have to it could
00:55:23be it could be i don't know yeah it looks like they're bringing them into the pit lane so that
00:55:27means that is probably the end no they're stopping them on the uh on the grid so maybe they're going
00:55:34to do maybe they're going to restart it well this is normal protocols to be honest they'll do it and
00:55:38you notice that they've done it short of the pit lane entry so um i reckon it'll be a checker because
00:55:44we've got timing issues as well with touring car racing coming up as well but 10 54 that's not quite
00:55:50half distance is it it's not but also it goes back a lap so any of those positions that people made it
00:55:56does actually go back to with behem and jocelyn fernandez as the top three it will alazari will be
00:56:03a little bit disappointed about that that is if indeed we do get the don't get a restart so
00:56:10now raber if you're if you're the cause of the red flag of course you can't profit from it that's
00:56:17the other thing so won't be able to do from that now points wise where does it mclaughlin is out of
00:56:23the points but still has fastest lap so gets a solitary point malna is in eighth so i my reckoning
00:56:30if if we get the checker it will be mclaughlin on by one point taking i've been told there is a restart
00:56:36for the temer that's good news it is isn't it great for the viewers i think they'll be putting

00:57:05it's going to be a wet race so they'll change to some wet tyres but in the meantime as there's a
00:57:11little bit of a breather going on uh on circuit time to take a quick break please stay with us

00:57:20so welcome back to alton park the first part of the race red flag and we're going to have a seven
00:57:32minute sprint race most of the car is changing over now what happens usually of course is you put the
00:57:38wet tires on and then it tries up yeah exactly that is exactly what's going to happen isn't it
00:57:43but i see some of them i was just listening in there some of them were thinking about staying
00:57:47on slicks because it is fairly warm and it's not actually i don't think it's raining anymore so
00:57:52they're they're sort of going to gamble with staying on slicks but they've got the wets ready
00:57:56look now bearing in mind you can't fill the track or see what's going we get a rough idea what's going
00:58:00on what would be your call here hey do you know what we had a race at spa recently and it was
00:58:04same conditions yeah and because we were starting further back i made a call for for our driver to
00:58:09go slicks and it dried out at the end of the race and he came through and got on the podium from the
00:58:13back so i would personally if you're further back stay on slicks just because you may have to take
00:58:19the gamble with seven minutes to go but if you're further forward you might be better just to have
00:58:23the grip to keep position keep track position by staying on the wets have you ever done a thing where
00:58:27you've got that that conundrum you don't know what to do and you flicked a coin or something like
00:58:32that to do it or do you actually have has it always 100 been a reasoned decision yeah there's
00:58:37method behind what you what you choose um but sometimes it is a gamble it's a 50 50 gamble so
00:58:43you could flick a coin but i don't think that's that's the right thing to do but you've never done
00:58:48that no no so we're gonna have a little bit of a mixture but yeah the championship what what a topsy
00:58:54turvy season it's been so far for f4 we saw mclaughlin take the lead i think it's maybe the way
00:59:00things were panning out gonna hang on to it for by a very very slim margin then these cars in a
00:59:06fortnight go away to silverstone for the support i know we've banged on about that it's not part of
00:59:10the championship but it does have that prestige with it i mean everybody's going to want to do
00:59:16well in front of that huge audience and it will have ramifications in terms of the how the drivers
00:59:23feel when they come back to the main championship yeah and also it's just a bit more experience for
00:59:27them you know going to do a one-off race which is is not for the championship it's uh it's good
00:59:32experience of some of these guys and girls that are going to be doing it some aren't doing it you
00:59:36know it's an extra cost to go and do that weekend so it's uh it's just dependent on uh on what position
00:59:42you're in but in my opinion it's a great great event to do because you're in front of all the right
00:59:48people that you're trying to impress at the top because a lot of these three of these drivers on the
00:59:52grid are backed by uh formula one junior programs so f1 teams so it they need to do it like ella
00:59:59lloyd will probably be doing it for the mclaren uh team and then you've got uh you've got jeff hall
01:00:04who's merc and then obviously got mclaughlin who's definitely doing it i know is in the red goal car
01:00:09um for high tech so yeah it's important to do my opinion um and it will be more experienced like i
01:00:15said but yes uh let's see what the what the weather brings this is probably going to be good practice
01:00:20because it always seems to race it rain at silverstein yeah the good thing about the
01:00:24commentary box is normally it's in the dryer well that little shed was a bit flooded wasn't it when
01:00:28we were at my legs are getting a bit wet but that was my silly choice of putting shorts on
01:00:35this morning we love your shorts mate the um after that the f4 of course won't be or may you may not
01:00:43know therefore won't be with us at croft because that's their one of their away rounds they're going
01:00:47to go away um and race at zambo which is their next championship round and uh and then the
01:00:54traveling continues for them because they are at not kill so we will be rejoined by uh these runners
01:00:59at not kill so yeah it's great that they're going to sample as well because it's another f1 circuit
01:01:03that they need to learn and it's uh it's good experience for them to get that that in nice and
01:01:07early in f4 so it's really good that they're going there but it's even better that they come back
01:01:10and join us uh for the uh itv viewers um back at uh knock hill so ella lloyd staying on slicks the
01:01:18leaders are on the wet tire and uh there is there is uh taken by the conundrum as you work yeah i think
01:01:24yeah it's basically what i said isn't it is that the leaders you should probably go wet just to to try
01:01:29and um try and pull away get a bit of a gap if it was longer than seven minutes yeah the slicks could
01:01:36work but you may as well gamble it right now because you never know what's going to happen it could
01:01:41drive very quickly uh it depends how quickly they get going but the yeah the slick will probably come
01:01:47in right at the end which is too late we'll see how that works out i think the we've been told that
01:01:52the cars in the pit lane aren't in the correct order so still going to be a little bit of sorting out
01:01:55to do and that might well be safety car restart by the way so that that's a good sensible decision
01:02:02rather than going through the normal procedure of of an outlet or a constant slap and then get them
01:02:07on the grid so they're actually getting track time and getting to see where grip is or isn't exactly
01:02:12yeah i think it's uh it's still raining so definitely a shout for wets um i think everyone
01:02:19by the time we actually start this race i think everyone will be on wets because that rain is heavy
01:02:22isn't it uh anyone that's i think it will even be declared as a wet race therefore everyone has
01:02:28to start on wets everyone was expecting it to be a lovely sunny scorcher this weekend and from
01:02:37talking to home my home in the south of england i think they i don't think they've had any rain so
01:02:41far today and they were quite surprised when i reported in this morning and i'd got soaked but
01:02:45you expect it but everyone's come prepared have you noticed that they have apart from me i'm freezing
01:02:50i can't believe it's been only 16 degrees today today and it's raining but the fans look they're
01:02:56loving it they're having a great time they're actually they are all dressed for the occasion
01:02:59they've brought all the uh the rain gear and um yeah it's it's hammering it down now
01:03:06it is we need paul don't we when we're crowd surfing actually and having a look
01:03:10they need to get ella lloyd on on wets now because um i saw that she was still on slicks
01:03:15and it is it's now made its way to the pit lane this rain but maybe it's too late maybe the
01:03:21that's that was the time is up so she's now going to have to start on slicks which is definitely the
01:03:27wrong decision this is where the like the championship organizers the race officials
01:03:32really own their money because they've got to sort out the order they've got to call everything out
01:03:36and make sure everyone gets out in the correct order and that's exactly what they're trying to do
01:03:39yeah fair play yeah that that isn't easy to do to try and do that in the pit lane where there's
01:03:44not much space anyway um putting them all back in the correct order um
01:03:48ella lloyd needs to get in the pits asap it's uh and anyone else that's on slicks i am i'm actually
01:03:55quite surprised that they've allowed them to go out because it is a bit of a safety issue now um
01:04:01because it seems way too wet cracking job by the british shorts of a bill racing club the barc
01:04:07getting everyone out in order and getting that turnaround very quickly indeed so kudos to
01:04:12the club for sorting that out now do we think they're in the right order we're sort of hearing
01:04:17conflicting things um they they were definitely putting them in a different order as they were
01:04:22leaving the pits um whether it's the correct order we don't know but it's all the right cars but not
01:04:26necessarily to use a very old one in the right order no exactly uh beerman definitely and jocelyn and
01:04:34fernandez with a top three i think i think it's i think they are in the correct order yeah um but
01:04:41we'll we'll see as soon as we uh get on to this first flying lap um but yeah i think there's a
01:04:47couple of cars that one slicks annoyingly uh which is is not good for them they are going to have to
01:04:51get some wets on asap yeah so we might get the pit stop from ella lloyd you how food is in
01:04:59so he will rejoin some way back and of course one thing you can't do in these conditions is do
01:05:08a blistering lap to close right the way up and significantly the clock is running as well
01:05:12it is isn't it yeah now i just noticed that so yeah it's only going to be a very quick
01:05:16maybe three lap maybe two lap um sprint race um but yeah let's see if um if the young bearman can
01:05:24do the job this would be another potential bit of history being written here either way whether
01:05:29it's jocelyn bearman or fernandez it's a shit and i'm and i'm being very unkind writing physique out
01:05:35of the picture he's in fourth place we've got a bit of f4 history about to be made possibly
01:05:38exactly yeah yeah we have we've had fernandez he's won a reverse uh grid race before hasn't
01:05:44me fernandez oh yes of course yeah not a not a main race uh qualifying not the fastest
01:05:48off the front one so but yeah you're quite right he did take the reverse grid win scott stringfellow
01:05:53probably driving the safety car probably wishing he was still in single seaters as he was many
01:05:57years ago made it up to f3 he's uh he's i'm sure he's enjoying this car he's getting plenty of laps
01:06:02in as you as i predicted lloyd and one of the cars come into the pits uh that's uh oh that's
01:06:09mercia mercia decided to come in as well here robinson's in so yeah they uh they decided to
01:06:15stay on slicks as a bit of a gamble but unfortunately it rained so hard just before
01:06:19they went out and they ran out of time so yeah like you say robinson with high tech they're doing
01:06:22a quick change you've got mercia who is with argenti and then you've got lloyd who's with rodin
01:06:29so three teams all trying to go for the quickest pit stop that is quick as well isn't it
01:06:33yeah robinson's been done quickly he certainly has i mean this is not a you know a mid-race thing
01:06:38that these guys are drilled for equipped for but that was a quick turnaround yeah high tech have
01:06:43definitely won that road in second and then argenti looks like they uh they came out third so they need
01:06:49to now catch up the safety car is that the phil glue trophy for the fastest it's not far behind
01:06:53actually argenti and rodin were very similar to be fair yeah but yeah bad decision that for all those
01:06:59three um but like i said to you earlier you have to take the gamble sometimes you do so
01:07:04behrman out front jocelyn second and what that's a shame that is a great pity so red flag why i'm not
01:07:15sure at the moment whether we've had a problem with someone else we're having a quick look around
01:07:19our spotters are going to be having a look around maybe it can't be that the weather's got worse
01:07:23because it doesn't look significantly worse out there and they're in wets but it might be we're hearing
01:07:28it might be a erroneous order perhaps if someone's in the wrong place obviously you don't want to
01:07:33start the race but that's going to be that's going to be done isn't it oh yeah that's it now yeah yeah
01:07:37it was there was a complete waste of time um so yeah really disappointing for the viewers because
01:07:42we didn't get that last uh few laps to watch but uh yeah it was um good to see some pit stops
01:07:49we did actually and it's nice to see the teams that work and do their stuff but uh the guys at the
01:07:54front are going to be disappointed apart from uh thomas bearman who in theory then takes his first
01:08:00win yep so which he earned as well yeah i wonder whether also yeah does the does it go back a lap
01:08:07as well so that's completely void isn't it yeah yeah so it's possibly going to be half points we
01:08:12won't probably know that until all of the various they're going into park ferme and uh so it's
01:08:19bearman from jocelyn fernandez in third place jimmy pazik in fourth there is jimmy in the 93 car the
01:08:25roading driver going in alazari in 12th he alazari was the most unlucky out of everyone because he'd
01:08:31got up to third before the first stop so disappointment for him but he knows he had the pace and and the
01:08:36ability to overtake but uh as you can see down there thomas bearman he's going to be a very happy young
01:08:41man they love that pose don't they when they get on there on the uh bonnet of their car and uh they
01:08:48never know what to do with their arms but uh that was a good celebration from bearman and uh yeah he
01:08:53deserved that that comes from a film doesn't it what do i do with my arms is it the talladega nights
01:08:59talladega night that's where it comes from isn't it absolutely right it's true though it's very very true
01:09:03so we're just waiting for confirmation of the result but it's the 15 year old from chelmsford thomas
01:09:08who takes his first win ex-carter as many of them are did two meetings at the end of last season
01:09:16at a best of ninth and that was a really sensible thing for a youngster to do if you want rookie
01:09:20status come in do the last couple of rounds of the preceding year and you can keep you know with
01:09:25limited experience keep the rookie status and then you know david bemmen his dad thomas's dad said
01:09:31it's very much rookie year for us probably not going to be in the in the mix for overall but let's try
01:09:35and get the rookie title and then maybe come back for another year maybe here maybe in in an
01:09:41international championship wait and see look how much it means to you that's great to see it is
01:09:44yeah and it's uh great for the team great for his mechanic great for him great for the family the
01:09:48sponsors it's it's just really nice to get that that um that was all you know he works so hard
01:09:54with his team um and they uh yeah they deserve that every every uh every bit of that and same with
01:10:00jocelyn fernandez you know they work so hard with their teams and finding the backing to get there
01:10:04and and to all be on the podium is fantastic
01:10:06well we've had a result through let's have a look at the official result then of round 15
01:10:13and thomas bearman takes overall and of course rookie honors henry jocelyn second from chase
01:10:18fernandez and jimmy pazik adam alazari fifth from fion mclaughlin and fion's finish means that he gets
01:10:24points and retains the championship lead either way but henry mercia next up from august raver martin
01:10:29molnar in ninth and rowan campbell pilling completing our top 10. 11th goes to theo palmer
01:10:36from leo robinson and ella lloyd xavier avramides in 14th from alba larsen yu hao fu in 16th meet
01:10:43jeffel tommy harfield ari bonsall in 19th place and cole kewittson 20th
01:10:49so we don't have the standings for you at the moment but a good opportunity as we watch the
