00:00I mean, it's just terrible just how it all unfolded and to think you were just getting
00:04so close to giving your question to Charlie there. Now, when it happened, when the shooting
00:10happened, was it very loud? Did everybody know, okay, okay, something is going on here? And when
00:14did the people started to run? I mean, I think it's all a blur momentarily. Some people were
00:24under the impression that it wasn't loud enough to be a gun. I think some people thought it was
00:28a firecracker. People started to run pretty immediately. I think the people I was with
00:36prioritized getting down on the ground instead of running just because it was in a bowl formation
00:41and we were at the bottom of the bowl. And so if the shooter was up high, anyone that was running,
00:47we were afraid, was just going to get mowed down. So it was probably 20 or 30 seconds of
00:53anticipating a second shot, assuming that it was a mass shooter. And then once any people realized
00:59that it was a more targeted attack, we helped people find their families and get the heck out
01:05of there.
01:06Yeah, no doubt. I mean, once that happens, you just got to start running and hoping for the very best.
01:11And that moment that just happens and there's mass confusion. And then when did you realize,
01:19okay, this is really bad? And then when did you get the details that unfortunately he passed away?
01:26It probably took about three hours to get the news that he had passed away.
01:31You know, we initially, I didn't even know if he had been hit. I saw him bounce. I saw him fall down
01:37in his chair, but I, you know, I, that was inconclusive. Um, some people were saying he
01:43was hit. Some people were saying he wasn't hit. Uh, and it was, there were just mixed, mixed news
01:49flying around everywhere. Uh, we heard that he had been hit, uh, maybe 30 minutes after he was confirmed
01:55through video evidence and whatnot. Um, and then I think we were waiting on standby and, and, you know,
02:01as a member of the community down here in Utah, uh, you're hearing different things from,
02:05from friends and family who are saying, you know, my, my uncle works in the hospital. This is what
02:10I've been hearing. You know, my father-in-law is the surgeon in there right now. This is what I've
02:14heard. Um, so, so mixed reviews until, until, you know, I think it was president Trump that,
02:20uh, kind of sent out the memo that, that unfortunately, Mr. Kirk had passed away.
02:26It's terrible, terrible. I want to show our viewers right now, we'll get to this in just moments.
02:30There's a vigil going on right now. We in Orem, Utah will, uh, give that to you as soon as we wrap
02:37up here, but I want to continue with you, Michael, just because you were so close to this. I mean,
02:43just, uh, 10 people away from asking your question. And I mean, given everything that we see now in this
02:50landscape of, uh, political divisiveness, I mean, it doesn't seem like you could have an opinion
02:57anymore because if someone doesn't like your opinion, they're going to try to find where
03:01you're at and, and want to kill you. If you're, if you're, if you're big enough, if you're an
03:05influencer, it seems. Yeah, certainly. Um, you know, this is, this is a political assassination
03:13and a political hate crime, but in, in the same sense, it's not political at all. Um, you know,
03:17we here in Utah, we here in America are all grieving. Um, you know, we, we're all grieving. So,
03:24so now is a time to think about what we say and how we say it, because if we, if we don't take a
03:32moment to stop and suspend our judgment, instead of focus on unity, we're going to, you know, we're
03:38going to keep going in this conflict of irrational responding, um, when we're projecting, you know,
03:44we're projecting our disbelief and our hurt and our anger, and even, even, you know, maybe some
03:49people's, um, happiness, which is disgusting to say. Um, but, but, you know, we need to take a
03:54minute and we need to suspend judgment and we need to focus on the shared humanity in this. And so,
04:00so our response and my response is to, you know, take a moment to process my emotions instead of
04:06responding out of shock or anger. Um, and, uh, and yet, you know, we need to understand everyone
04:13suffered a lot here, you know, matter what side you're on, this isn't, you know, this isn't just
04:17political, this is, this is humane. Um, and, and it is scary that, that we're killed for our
04:23beliefs, right? Our inalienable right, our endowed gift from God in the constitution is the right to
04:29life. Um, and, and there's, there's just no word. There's no words that can describe this. There's no
04:35argument. There's no politics. The only way this can be solved is in, is in shared compassion and in
04:41presence. And I can't offer my words. I can't offer my argument. I can't even offer my politics. I can only
04:46offer you and, and my loved ones around me here in Utah. I can only offer my presence and I can sit
04:52and I can be with you and I can listen to your sorrows and I can cry with you. Um, and, and the
04:59way I see it, that's the only way out of this, this sorrow and hurt. So true. And lastly, Michael, I want
05:04to get your thoughts because, you know, a couple of hours ago, we heard an update saying that they had
05:10somebody detained, uh, that could be possibly the shooter. They said they were questioning them.
05:15So the manhunt was over. And now just a little bit ago within the last hour, we learned that the
05:21manhunt is back on. I mean, what are your thoughts on that? Where this little back and forth going on
05:26with police as well as trying to locate, uh, this coward. Yeah. I mean, uh, you know, the governor has
05:34assured people that, that we're going to get this guy. Um, you know, it's a tense situation right now
05:40with a manhunt and, and a shooter and a murderer, uh, uh, you know, a criminal on the loose. Um, but
05:47you know, we, I, I have trust in the authorities. Um, and you know, I, I hope this person doesn't
05:53try anything else. Um, but I don't know, it's, it's, it's anxious with all the uncertainty, but
05:59in situations, you know, terrible crimes like this in the past, we have equally as little information
06:05as we do in this point. And, and, and, you know, you just have to have faith that like the other
06:10stories, the FBI and the, the government knows more than they're letting on and, and they have a
06:16trace on this guy and we're going to get them and we're going to prosecute him to the highest extent
06:20of the law. Yeah. So well said, Michael, thanks so much for, for speaking with us. I'm glad that
06:26you're okay, but I'm sorry for you that you had to witness such a tragedy today, but take care.
06:32And thanks again for speaking with us. Thanks, Mike.
09:23Fox, given the very sad circumstances, I appreciate you coming on on such short notice
09:28and just, I mean, it's a horrible day.
09:31It's a horrible day and this will be remembered forever in our nation's history.
09:37And first and foremost, my heart goes out to Erica, her beautiful children.
09:43It's such a sad day and my heart hurts for her.
09:46I can't even imagine losing my husband and having my children.
09:51So let's just pray for her and her family.
09:55I know.
09:56It's deeply troubling when you think about the family and everyone that's just left behind
10:02when this incident happened.
10:03And, you know, when you heard about the initial reaction, you get those push alerts and then
10:08you go on maybe places like X and then you're seeing the real horrible images that came out
10:13of this.
10:14I mean, what was your first reactions when you when you saw this?
10:18I think my first reaction, obviously, being in politics, you get desensitized from a lot of things.
10:24And I think a lot of people suffered from that today posting the video online.
10:29And we have to remember in these dark times that he's human.
10:33He has a wife.
10:34He has kids, I think, under the age of three.
10:38And so it's really important to know to just not share that video or that video footage.
10:44But I was I was in quite a bit of shock.
10:47My friend who I actually met through Turning Point was there today.
10:51And so she was giving me on the ground updates as well as a former colleague of mine who's another good friend
10:58who I worked in the White House with.
10:59We were both just scrolling, refreshing.
11:02But I think a lot of us didn't want to believe the news.
11:04I was listening to Megyn Kelly earlier and we saw where just the news had come out.
11:10John Solomon had reported and pronounced that he passed.
11:14And I didn't want to believe it.
11:16I didn't want to wait until AP was coming out.
11:19I didn't.
11:20I was just in complete shock.
11:21And it's truly devastating, Mike.
11:23Yeah, I mean, it's so horrible.
11:26And, you know, this is an event where he goes to different college campuses and will freely talk to people that don't agree with him.
11:36And just really trying to find some sort of common ground when it comes to this crazy world of politics.
11:43And for this to happen where you can't even say what's on your mind, it's really disheartening.
11:51It is.
11:52And I really hope that this is a turning point in our nation's history.
11:56Charlie Kirk was, you know, just a thought leader in today's conservative movement.
12:02And he was somebody who encouraged us to disagree at times, have healthy debates.
12:08He was such a kind soul.
12:10He was a man of faith, a man of God, and really lived by lived and died by the sword, per se.
12:16And so it's just it's quite devastating.
12:20And I really hope that everyone in the conservative movement, the tens of thousands of people that have rallied behind him, that have been awakened and emboldened because of Turning Point USA, continues this message because it is so important.
12:34It goes beyond politics.
12:36It is about faith.
12:37And I pray that we have a spiritual revival in this country.
12:42And what was Charlie like when the camera wasn't on, when the microphone wasn't there?
12:47What was he like just in passing getting to know him?
12:51Well, I think why so many individuals loved him is because he's so relatable and he's so genuine.
12:58He's authentic.
12:59And he's just he's a great family man.
13:03And that's why so many people loved him is just because they could relate to him.
13:07It wasn't just another talking head who was saying one thing and doing another behind closed doors.
13:12He was openly advocating for strong family values and was very principled.
13:17His work ethic was unmatched.
13:20A lot of the Turning Point family will say the same about that.
13:23Charlie and his work went were very cohesive, were basically one.
13:28And so he saw his work family as his real family as well.
13:32And that's why he just touched so many lives.
13:35And so, I mean, I got the privilege of going to Arizona for their wedding reception for him and to celebrate him and Erica.
13:43Months prior to that, I watched the 2020 presidential election unfold from the West Wing with him and his wife Erica.
13:50And so I'm really glad I get to look back on those moments.
13:53I also look back on the moments when I was 19, I was first getting into politics.
13:57And the first thing that I did was start a Turning Point USA chapter on the University of Louisville's campus.
14:02The first thing I did was become a Turning Point USA ambassador and travel to some of those different events and connect with like minded individuals.
14:10And so that just speaks a lot to Charlie that I've, you know, a lot about my decision making moving forward.
14:17And the friends that I've been able to connect with along the way have everything to do with Charlie Kirk and Turning Point USA.
14:23And that should be a testament to the kind of man that he is, able to connect like minded people and really leave his legacy behind,
14:30not only in his two beautiful children and his beautiful wife, but in the tens of thousands of Americans that he's emboldened as well.
14:39I think what so many people connected with Charlie and really gravitated towards him was the fact that he was able to say things that maybe you were thinking,
14:50but you couldn't really say it because you were in school or your work wouldn't allow it.
14:56But at the end of the day, you're like, oh, my gosh, there's people like that.
15:00They're like minded like me. And he's able to say it.
15:03Absolutely. I mean, I remember when I was 19 years old, it was such a it was such a sad time in our country.
15:10We were so divided with BLM and the riots breaking out.
15:15College campuses were wreaking havoc.
15:17That was just chaotic. And it was just a sad time in our country.
15:21And I remember standing firm in my beliefs and in my convictions and standing with our law enforcement officers back then.
15:29And I was getting ridiculed. I was being canceled.
15:31And I remember Charlie Kirk just making sure, checking in, making sure that I was standing strong through that.
15:38And even towards my White House journey working for President Trump, he was one of the first people who called me, congratulated me.
15:46He called the White House said and put in a great word, which is so near and dear to my heart.
15:52I cannot thank him enough for that. And a lot of where I am today wouldn't have happened without Charlie Kirk and without this movement.
15:59And so I think we should remember that. And it's not just a testament to me and what I've accomplished, but just how many lives that he really has touched.
16:08And I'm sure there are countless other individuals right now posting and sharing the impact that he's had on their lives as well.
16:16And Cameron, how does this momentum continue?
16:19How does TPUSA continue so that his message can continue to resonate?
16:25Who picks up that baton and continues this to the next levels?
16:30Well, I think we've seen throughout history that they have tried to silence us.
16:34They have tried to scare us. They have tried to cancel us.
16:37And this is only going to do the opposite. This is going to embolden so many individuals to speaking about their beliefs, continuing this message of not just fighting for our country, but fighting to bring faith back into this country as well, because we need God right now.
16:56We truly need God. We need to dive into the scriptures and we really just need a spiritual revival in this country, because I have seen so many instances and messages and posts about celebrating this time in history.
17:14And it is disgusting. And these people need to look in the mirror. And so I really I pray that they find Jesus.
17:21And I also just pray that we continue this messaging that we not become fearful, that we actually become stronger for it, that we continue this fight, that we continue these messaging points because Charlie had a lot to do with not just college campus reform and going to these college campuses and relating to younger people, but also winning
17:43also winning us a presidential election. He was a he was a key person in that as well.
17:49And we cannot forget the impact that he's had on our individual lives in this nation as a whole.
17:54So I hope that this emboldens people to go out and to speak, speak their mind.
18:00Don't be fearful. Don't be confused because there's a lot more of us than than people would think.
18:05Yeah, Cameron, I think you're so on it when you when you say that there's so many people lost in this country when you're thinking about, OK, you're putting people in a box by saying, OK, they're just a Democrat or they're just a Republican.
18:19But we're forgetting about human decency, about these people are human beings.
18:25At the end of the day, they have families that they have to go home to. And now Charlie doesn't able to do that.
18:32Yeah, he will. He will never be able to walk his daughter down the aisle.
18:38He you know, I don't even think his children are at the age to really remember him.
18:43I know that there will be some videos probably. I've seen some that Erica has posted, fortunately, of their family that they can look back on.
18:51But this is so devastating. And right now it's really the time to come together. This is not a time to be divided.
18:58This was obviously politically motivated. Obviously, we're still waiting on details to come out.
19:05Fortunately, I have kept up with the FBI. They have because I was seeing some conflicting posts, whether the shooter was actually the shooter or not.
19:14But they do have the suspect in custody. And so we are waiting to get information on that.
19:20But I pray for justice. And luckily, we do have a president right now who is restoring.
