We're just eight days away from Trinidad and Tobago's next World Cup qualifier…
And head coach Dwight Yorke is striking a confident tone, insisting the Soca Warriors have what it takes to deliver strong results in their two remaining away fixtures against Bermuda and Curaçao...
After a sluggish start to the campaign, Yorke says he's seen steady improvements in the team and believes they're peaking at the right time...
00:00Trinidad and Tobago's World Cup qualifying campaign did not get off to a flyer,
00:04with the team having plenty of work to do in order to make it to the prestigious FIFA tournament in 2026.
00:10TNT drew 0-0 at home against Curaçao before losing 2-0 away to Jamaica.
00:15As far as coach Dwight York is concerned, TNT performed well against both countries.
00:20There was no time to dwell on the past.
00:23We know that when we looked at the database, it tells us a great deal there.
00:27And certainly what we see with our eyes as well, seeing the improvement in the team and seeing the shape of the team
00:34and what we're trying to do in dominating position and shots on target, all those things are in the positive.
00:41And that's the positive message.
00:43You know, had I come away from Jamaica thinking that we didn't play well and we were a bit unfortunate and there is an issue,
00:51but that's not the conversation I would be having.
00:54The conversation is one that is really positive.
00:56The red, white and black will face Bermuda and Curaçao away from home on October 10th and 14th respectively.
01:03While some fans have given up on the campaign, York is hoping for all the support he can get.
01:07We got four games, 12 points to play for.
01:12What is behind us has already happened.
01:15We can only control what's in front of us and that's the positive message.
01:19We just make sure and ask the country to give us that continued support like they have.
01:24I think a lot of people who is in the football fraternity could see the growth and the progress that this team is making.
01:30And I feel that we're only one game away from really turning things around and there is no hiding place.
01:38There's no excuses from our end.
01:39At the moment, Jamaica are on top with six points, while Curaçao are second on four in Group B.
01:44TNT are third with a point and Bermuda last with zero on the board.
01:50While York is pleased with the improvements, the question is, is he confident about the team's chances heading into the two away matches?
01:59Yeah, absolutely. I'm quietly confident.
02:01As I said, I take a lot of heart from what I've seen over the past two games and what we have created and what we try to do and what we continue to build.
02:10York is in full support of the grandparent law and hopes that all formalities can be completed so he can also make use of it since he's earmarked a couple players.
