Asean has unveiled three new initiatives that will serve as key legacies of Malaysia’s chairmanship this year and help steer the regional bloc toward a more inclusive and sustainable future, said Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
Speaking at the launch of the Asean Initiatives on Inclusivity and Sustainability on Friday (Oct 24), Mohamad said the three programmes mark the culmination of months of collaboration, reflection and shared vision among member states.
00:00...to embrace sustainable business practices and champion a greener economy.
00:07Over the past year, as Chair, we have advanced the agenda of inclusivity and sustainability.
00:15By centering our team on those two principles, we ensure that the next phase of ASEAN's growth is anchored in enduring values.
00:26This will be decisive as we enter an era marked by increased geostrategic contestation, environmental challenges, and technological disruption.
00:39In that regard, today's launch carries special significance.
00:43It reflects not just what we have achieved together over the course of the year, but what we will leave behind long after these terminations concludes.
00:56In no uncertain terms, the three initiatives launched today will form Malaysia's legacy to our 2025 championship, serving ASEAN and its member states well into the future.
01:09These initiatives, number one, the MSE Excellence Center, MSME, Excellence Center for Green Transition in ASEAN.
01:19Number two, the report, ASEAN Per HIP, ASEAN SDI Ecosystem Foresight 2035 and Beyond.
01:28And the third one, the book, ASEAN in 2025, Shaping an Inclusive and Sustainable Future, are the culmination of months of collaboration, reflection, and vision.
01:41Each, each in its own way, prepares ASEAN for a changing world.
01:47Together, they affirm our collective determination to shape a future basis-inclusive and sustainable.
01:55Through MEGA, these MSMEs will gain access to an education and training hub that will facilitate their transition to green, sustainable business models.
02:07By enabling all businesses to participate in the green transition, we are not only protecting livelihoods, but also preparing ASEAN's economy for the realities of the low-carbon future.
02:20The second initiative, the ASEAN initiative, ASEAN Science, Technology, and Innovation Ecosystem Foresight 2035 and Beyond report, captures the region's effort to anticipate the future rather than be overtaken by it.
02:38In this regard, Foresight is not gazing into a crystal ball, hoping to predict the future, but about readiness, about thinking further, so that we can have students.
02:53The ASEAN reports identify the trends, disruptions, and opportunities that will define science, technology, and innovation in the next decade, and offers pathways to enable ASEAN to become an engine of economists and for ASEAN's collective prosperity.
03:13Through this, we will ensure that ASEAN's progress is guided, not by chance, but by choice, grounded in knowledge, driven by innovation, and directed toward a future that is inclusive and sustainable.
03:31The third initiative, the ASEAN in 2025, Shaping an Inclusive and Sustainable Future Book, stands as both reflection and legacy.
03:43Ladies and gentlemen, with contribution from the over 30 of our region's leading thinkers, it gathers ideas across geopolitics, sustainability, trade, economies, and technology.
03:57These themes will define our shared destiny.
04:02This book reminds us that ASEAN's centrality and relevance cannot be taken as a foregone conclusion.
04:10Rather, it demands continuous reflection, renewal, and reinvention, guided by brave ideas that chart the course for ASEAN to remain a dynamic and forward-looking community in the decades ahead.
04:27Excellencies, ladies, and gentlemen, taken together, these three initiatives reflect a malicious approach throughout our championship.
04:37As we prepare to conclude our championship, we do so with confidence that ASEAN remains strong, united, and ready to face the future.
04:48The work continues, but so does the conviction that together, this region can remain a beacon of exclusivity and sustainability for the world.
05:00This is important, especially in the book 2025, about sustainable development by ISIS and also with green technology by Menterian Science and MSME by Kementerian Usahawan.
05:16This is the three factors, three factors, three factors that will be made possible for us to be made possible for our
05:35but now will to reuse and reinvention of our resources and molecule in the world,
05:48we are going to take action from our departments in the world where we step forward.
