Around the time of Halloween, a nor'easter could slam the East Coast with coastal flooding and heavy rain.
Transcript
00:00We're going to take a look at the extended forecast with three big headlines for next week.
00:05Three things to know for next week.
00:06There will be a cool pattern in place across the south and the eastern U.S.
00:10It's going to still be stormy in the northwest at times.
00:12We get a little break early in the week after some Sunday snow in the mountains
00:15and heavy rain all weekend at times, at least into the lower elevations.
00:20But one real compelling story about next week will be a nor'easter threat mid to late week.
00:26This is going to be perhaps energized by the coastal storm.
00:31You can see we're dealing with a big dip in the jet stream.
00:33Here comes a big dip coming down from the northern plains all the way down to the Gulf Coast
00:38with energy, spokes of energy, rotating around the base of that.
00:42And in this particular example, you can see that Melissa is offshore.
00:47And this would be more of a disconnected solution.
00:49But there are other computer models that actually hug Melissa a little closer to the coast,
00:53and that would wrap into the energy of this east coast storm.
00:57So that's something we need to keep an eye on.
00:58Regardless of if Melissa interacts with this east coast trough
01:02or if the trough before it scoots Melissa out to sea with a little less interaction,
01:07there will be a very impactful event here with chilly flow in place,
01:12dip in the jet stream, surface low pressure strengthening next week.
01:15And that's going to bring some drenching rain to the mid-Atlantic,
01:18and that expands north.
01:20Tuesday, it's still kind of in its early stages.
01:22This pulls north Wednesday and Thursday, and here's the red zone,
01:25where we're concerned about impacts involving coastal flooding,
01:29significant rain, significant onshore wind.
01:32And remember, these dunes in many areas along the Jersey Shore
01:36all the way down to the Outer Banks have been greatly compromised by Aaron
01:40and, again, by Imelda, where a storm, again, the tropical rain and windstorm
01:45that followed that, again, we've had a lot of problems here.
01:48And this could be yet another big flood producer.
