00:00Children lay flowers for a fellow kindergarten student who lost her life on her way home from
00:08school. We were unfortunately here yesterday afternoon so I'm just my heart breaks for the
00:13family. It is definitely every parent's worst nightmare. A five-year-old girl was riding a
00:19scooter on the footpath outside Rouse Hill Public School around 3.40 yesterday afternoon when she
00:26was struck by this ute as it was exiting the car park. The child was taken to hospital in a
00:32critical condition where she later died. Absolutely tragic circumstances. We've lost one of our
00:37beautiful young students. On behalf of the government, to the friends and family, we really
00:42feel your pain. We're just so sorry that this has happened. The 42-year-old driver was taken to
00:48Blacktown Hospital for mandatory blood and alcohol testing. Something has to be done. The government
00:54has to step in and do something about this area. It's too congested. Those concerns were in full
01:00view of the cameras today. As the education department boss spoke to the media, behind him
01:06a young girl stops just before crossing in front of a car on the same driveway. To make sure we have
01:13safe arrival and safe dismissal and our staff at the school did their best on that front as well.
01:18A team of councillors have been called in to provide much needed support for students and
01:24staff. While teachers and principals from nearby schools have stepped in to offer relief for
01:31those unable to work during this difficult time. A community in mourning as police seek to provide
01:38them with answers.
