RSF declares three-month truce in Sudan war

00:00The head of Sudan's Rapid Support Forces announces on Monday that his paramilitary group will enter an immediate three-month humanitarian truce.

00:20Earlier this month, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, known collectively as the Quad,

00:27proposed a three-month ceasefire to be followed by peace talks.

00:32The RSF initially accepted the plan but then carried out drone strikes on army positions.

00:38Monday's announcement appeared to mark a unilateral ceasefire.

00:43RSF General Mohamed Hamdan de Gallo said he would begin the truce in response to international efforts, including those led by Trump.

00:51He also urged the Quad to press Sudan's army to join the initiative.

00:54On Sunday, the army chief, General Abdul Fattah al-Burhan, criticized the U.S. proposal,

01:01claiming it sought to weaken the army while allowing the RSF to retain captured territory.

01:08He said the Sudanese public would not accept RSF fighters remaining in the country or taking part in any future political process.

01:16Burhan further rejected what he called U.S. claims of Islamist influence within his government.

01:22The war, which began in April 2023 during disputes over integrating the army and the RSF,
