Less cold for many across the country

AccuWeather's Bernie Rayno explains how conditions will change over the coming days as Arctic air gradually retreats and warmer air is expected to return.

00:00If you live in the Midwest and Northeast and Mid-Atlantic and you hate the cold, hang in there.

00:05There is light at the end of the tunnel.

00:08Since about Thanksgiving Day, we've seen this upper low across Hudson Bay.

00:13It's been sitting there, and what it's been doing is it's been sending waves of cold

00:17from central and western Canada into the eastern half of the United States.

00:22With that, we've also had quite a bit of snow, especially from New England toward the lakes

00:27where we have a very healthy snowpack right now.

00:30In fact, the biggest snowpack that we've seen since 2018, this early in the season.

00:36However, that upper low is going to finally leave Hudson Bay, and guess what happens next week

00:42as we get into Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday?

00:44The flow is going to become more zonal from west to east.

00:47What does that mean?

00:48The cold air that's been coming south out of Canada into the eastern and central United States

00:54will remain up in Canada, and instead, we get more of a Pacific flow.

00:59What does it mean?

01:00Less cold for many across the country.
