00:00Speed, it's not going to be an issue for these big three, but how does this one play out?
00:05This pays points to the championship.
00:08We are going to have a lot of answers, I feel like, after we go racing in this first race.
00:12And we might find out right away in the first lap of sprint race number one.
00:17You see Christian Craig to the far left.
00:19That is the inside of a right-handed first corner.
00:23To his left, Joey Savace.
00:24Luke Cloud was ripping today in qualifying at Super Bowl.
00:28Jason Anderson, one to the outside of him.
00:31And you have Colt Nichols in gate number five.
00:34This one is going to be good.
00:36As you said, a tenth of a second between the three fastest riders in the SX1 division.
00:42One point between them.
00:44It couldn't get any better.
00:46Three races to decide the 2025 World Supercross champion.
00:51And the first gate of the night for SX1 drops now.
00:55All right, Joey Savace and Anderson.
01:01Anderson goes wide.
01:02Savace gets the double.
01:04And Anderson will be on the side of the track.
01:07He rolls in, but it's Savace who takes the lead.
01:09Christian Craig up the inside.
01:11What does Anderson do here?
01:12Oh, he has to be so careful in this position.
01:15Oh!
01:16Aggressive early.
01:17All right, that is what Jason Anderson is going to do there tonight.
01:20All right, look at the three.
01:21And Luke Clout might play a role in this, too.
01:23He was ripping today in qualifying.
01:25Riders down in the rhythm section.
01:27But Anderson takes the lead as Craig tries to make the move on his teammate, but comes up just short.
01:32And we have the big three in this championship conversation.
01:36One, two, and three in this race.
01:38Joey Savace is not being nice at all.
01:42Oh, Christian Craig to the ground.
01:45He's going to have to make up a lot of ground in a short amount of time.
01:49It's an eight-lap sprint.
01:51Wow.
01:52I mean, that's tough for the guy who is one down.
01:54Look at Savace makes a mistake there.
01:56But think back to a week ago.
01:58These two came together.
02:00Savace got the bad end of it.
02:01He was on the ground.
02:03Anderson gets the win in the overall.
02:04These boys remember, and it might be time for Joey Savace to do something about what happened in Sweden.
02:11This might be a shot at it.
02:13Joey Savace played it very, very cool in Sweden.
02:17But it looks like he has his teeth out in these opening laps.
02:21Playtime is over.
02:22Let's not forget, Joey does not have a major 450 Supercross title.
02:27This is his chance.
02:28Here's Christian Craig on the Dragon's back.
02:33It's the back tire, so now this would be the second issue.
02:37He went down in the corner before the straightaway, back towards the finish line.
02:41So that would be a second issue on the lap.
02:43And when it goes to Anderson and Savace, you have to remember that this is a game of speed.
02:48And Joey has had it the last three weeks.
02:51He's been the faster of the two.
02:53Anderson's had the better race craft.
02:55We're about to find out if speed can overtake craft right here.
02:59Yeah, and I just think you said that perfectly.
03:01Joey has been so fast.
03:03He's been so technical.
03:04But Jason Anderson has been in this situation before, and he has thrived in this situation
03:10before unanswered questions.
03:12But Joey, Jason has that confidence.
03:14And it's clear with Jason Anderson out front, if you're Joey Savace, this title will not
03:19be given to you.
03:20It will have to be taken.
03:22Nice line by Joey right there.
03:23He goes roll, triple, double.
03:25Some options on this track played out earlier in Super Bowl.
03:28Jason, we're seeing it again now.
03:30And these boys have not been within half a second of each other this entire race.
03:36We're four laps in, and they are still within half a second.
03:39Now, remember, every race in World Supercross counts towards the championship, but these
03:44sprint races give just a little less than half points.
03:48So it's 10 for first, 9 for second, 8 for third, and so on.
03:52So if you are Jason Anderson, winning this race would give you one more point, Kristen.
03:59Both Dustin Pipes, team manager for PMG Suzuki, and also Yariv Khonski, team manager for Quad
04:06Lock Honda.
04:06I asked them both what they were telling their riders today.
04:09Yariv told me.
04:10He told Joey Savace, go out there and do it.
04:13On the other hand, Dustin Pipes told Jason Anderson absolutely nothing.
04:17He said, Jason is a pedigreed champion.
04:20He knows exactly what to do.
04:21The best thing I can do is give him space.
04:23That's how I support Jason Anderson.
04:24Two completely different methodologies for those two riders.
04:27And, Jace, we had a chance to talk to Dustin Pipes earlier today.
04:31He's stressed.
04:32He said he's feeling it.
04:33But on the other hand, his rider, the one on the bike, Jason Anderson, told you, I'm
04:37just here to win a race, championship, whatever.
04:40And you told me you really like that attitude out of Anderson.
04:43I mean, he's just the definition of cool, love, and collected.
04:47And I think that in championship nights like this, when there's so much external pressure
04:51and so much head noise, when you can genuinely be the guy that is that chill, it's got to
04:57just play into your favor so much.
05:00He is riding great right now.
05:02He's started to extend his lead over Joey Savace just a bit.
05:06You see the championship points as they run.
05:08Anderson would be up one if it finished like this.
05:12But for Christian Craig, he is going to need to make a pass.
05:15He's going to have to make multiple passes just to get back to single digits.
05:20Anderson is now starting to throw whips.
05:22Maybe that's because he doesn't hear Savace is closed.
05:24But he seems to be getting more comfortable while Joey's starting to make little mistakes.
05:28Yeah.
05:28And you can see that Joey is really on the edge of the racetrack.
05:32He's trying to open up these turns.
05:33I don't know if that means that he doesn't have the front end feel that he wants.
05:37So he's going to make these turns feel impossible.
05:39Jason Anderson looks comfortable.
05:41He looks loose.
05:42I wouldn't be surprised if that jersey was untucked.
05:45He's got a bit of the magic that's coming from that.
05:47He's out front right now as these laps click down.
05:51And Jason was not as fast as Joey today in the Super Bowl.
05:56But he was playing around, doing no-footers, doing big whips.
05:59He wasn't concerned with it because when the gate drops,
06:03that's when you get the point.
06:04And since this gate is dropped, he has been on the gas.
06:07Remember, though, he had an issue on that opening lap,
06:09doubled his way off the track, worked back into the line,
06:13and then was pretty aggressive with Joey Savace right there in the third corner.
06:17Oh, and this is going to be a massive loss for Joey.
06:20He makes the big mistake.
06:23And the lead is starting to slip away.
06:25Yeah, and they said at writers' meeting today,
06:27they praised the guys for how good that they'd been all season,
06:30but they said let's decide this championship on the track
06:33and not with the FIM officials.
06:36Remember back, Christian Craig lost five points in the Gold Coast.
06:39I mean, if you're looking where he's at now with that mistake,
06:42I bet he wishes he could have those five points back,
06:45but he has made some passes.
06:46He's in sixth place now.
06:48Up to sixth.
06:48He's in Simonson in fifth with a great ride for Rick Ware Racing.
06:51Colt Nichols in fourth.
06:52That's Jason Anderson's teammate on PMG Suzuki.
06:56But for Jason Anderson, man, this is a guy who thrives on new.
07:01Think back to his 250 days.
07:03He rode for Rockstar Suzuki.
07:04They switched to KTM.
07:06All new wins the championship.
07:08Ryan Dungey goes on a three-peat
07:10in the Monster Energy Supercross championship.
07:12The year he's gone, big change coming.
07:14It's Anderson who takes advantage and gets the win.
07:16Then he switches to Kawasaki years later.
07:18First year with a new team.
07:19Aluminum frame, all that change.
07:21And he thrives there as well.
07:23Now he's got, let's see, that's Cameron DeRoe,
07:26the wildcard rider from South Africa,
07:29holds him up just a bit.
07:30But for Jason Anderson, Jason, he's with a new team
07:33in a new championship, new personnel,
07:36and he just thrives in these situations.
07:38It just seems like he's one of those guys that,
07:40like you said, he just thrives in the chaos.
07:42And sometimes the change is exciting
07:44and something to work through.
07:46He's so naturally talented.
07:48And when you're that talented,
07:50can you just get bored with how easy riding can become?
07:54And for Jason Anderson,
07:55this would be his third win of the season.
07:58It's Jason Anderson who takes sprint race number one.
08:03What a ride for El Hombre.
08:07Absolute perfection.
08:08Once he got through the first couple corners.
08:13And he was phenomenal in that one.
08:15And Christian Craig puts his head down,
08:18charges all the way to the finish,
08:20and he gets to fifth place.
08:22Now remember, the main event,
08:24the final race of the night,
08:25that's where the big points are.
08:27If you're Christian Craig,
08:28keep yourself in this thing.
08:30But he may have his back against the wall here.
08:32He may have to win out the night
08:33and have a little help
08:34from Jason Anderson and Joey Cevacci.
08:37If you're going to have a bad race,
08:39that's the one to do it.
08:41But that is going to put him in a hole
08:43that he needs to dig himself out of tonight.
08:46El Hombre, he had the perfect start.
08:48And Cevacci is well and truly in this thing.
08:51One point, keeping those boys apart again.
08:55Sprint race number two will give the same amount of points,
08:59but Anderson grabs all of them here, Christian.
09:02With his third race win of the season,
09:04Jason Anderson, way to set the tone tonight
09:06on championship night.
09:08Take no prisoners right out of the gate, huh?
09:11Yeah, it was kind of a crazy start.
09:15Joey's going for it.
09:16I'm going for it.
09:19Crowd, I hope you liked it.
09:21The track conditions have changed dramatically
09:23from where they were at earlier in the day.
09:25It's what you guys are racing on now.
09:27What did you take an accounting of during that GP race?
09:30Just what I need to do
09:31to be better than them.
09:32That's about it.
09:33Thanks so much, Jason.
09:37And he was better than them just by a little,
09:41but that might be all it takes, Chase,
09:43to win this.
