DAP Youth says the push for UEC recognition is aimed at acknowledging the certificate as an academically credible qualification that is accepted internationally.
00:00Claims that the position of Bahasa Melayu will be challenged if the Unified Examination Certificate is recognized are false and meant to politicize the issue, says DAP Youth.
00:11DAP Youth's Executive Council today said UEC recognition is constitutionally sound and that Pakatan Harapan should remain committed to its manifesto promise to recognize the certificate of independent Chinese schools.
00:25In a statement, DAP Youth said UEC recognition aims to acknowledge the certificate as an academically credible qualification with international recognition similar to A-levels, thus enabling UEC holders to apply for admission to public universities.
00:41It said Article 152 of the federal constitution not only establishes Bahasa Melayu as the national language, but also guarantees citizens the right to use their mother tongue and provides the legal basis for the development of a multi-stream education system.
00:58DAP Youth added that the United Chinese School Committee's Association of Malaysia supports requiring a pass in Bahasa Melayu in SPM for UEC recognition, showing respect for Malay as a national language, and that claims to the contrary are politically motivated.
