00:00It's Allie back with another Instagram live interview and I will be speaking with none other
00:07than the amazing Camille Kostik today. I know you all are super excited for this one and I am too.
00:15I'm such a fan of hers and she is just all about mental health, all about spicing up your life,
00:23living your best life, and through dancing. And so I'm really excited to talk to her all about
00:29her new show. I love this. I haven't done an Instagram live in a room. Actually, no, I've
00:33done TikTok lives lately, but I haven't had like this conversational. It feels like a FaceTime call
00:38that people are just watching it on. It's pretty cool. I love watching. Right. I love it. I love
00:44it. Well, I'm so excited that you are down to do this with me. And I am so excited about your new
00:53show that you are hosting dancing with myself. Um, I think it is so fun. You have like so much
01:01energy. I mean, just to like, start off, tell me a little bit about this hosting gig and like,
01:08were you nervous when you started? Like, I think, I think it's kind of wild. I feel like
01:12in this day and age of social media and technology, it's almost like your resume is your Instagram page.
01:18Like whenever I want to hire a makeup artist or whenever I want to work with someone new or a
01:22photographer, like, I'm like, what's their Instagram, even if they have a website and I
01:26don't know, I, you know, I'm not saying I fully believe in having a website, but everyone goes
01:31and looks at someone's Instagram, whether before I interview someone or before someone interviews
01:35me, I realized that like, that's almost like the real of your life. And it thinks a little bit
01:40because there's a lot that goes on in our life that we don't share. And for me, I have been doing
01:45television hosting since I was about, I don't know. I think I found a love for the field of
01:50journalism when I was like 12. I didn't realize how fortunate I was to have a TV studio in my
01:54middle school and my high school. So that's where I just found a love for the field of television
01:58production communications. And I just stuck with it and, um, declared it as my major in college
02:04interned, did a lot of morning shows and some sports broadcasting and different things all over
02:10the place to really find my niche. Um, but I also am a dancer. So I grew up as a dancer and then
02:15growing up in the field of communication, this is like my dream job. It's my world's collide as a
02:19dancer to host. I host on a dance stage and I get to be a part of the choreography process and the
02:24dance process, which I don't think originally was a part of the plan. I don't think they knew
02:29that I was ready to step up and be a dance creator myself. Um, so I'm, I'm always game for whatever,
02:34but yeah, this is, this is the dream. Um, but it's so funny. So many people don't know that I have
02:40a background in hosting when I've been doing it for so long and I've been like waiting for a moment
02:44like this. Um, so yeah, it's the dream. It's definitely. That is so exciting. Honestly,
02:53also we're aligned with middle school, high school, TV pro class. That's where we got,
02:59I got the love for it myself. And so I love that. Well, congrats to you. Look at you taking over
03:05Hollywood love. Oh, yeah. Thank you. Now, um, tell me a little bit about this choreography that
03:15you get to do. I saw that you and Liza just did a fun dance challenge together. And then
03:20the contestants on the show, you kind of like challenge them to learn the steps pretty quickly
03:25and they perform for you and, or for you and the judges and the audience who votes on whether
03:31they stay or not. Um, how do you come up with the choreography? We work with a great little bit
03:36about that dancers called nappy tabs and they choreograph for so many people that you, everyone
03:41loves Jennifer Lopez. Um, so that in itself was like very cool to be a part of that team and have
03:48them choreograph and work with us. Um, and yeah, so it was just some late nights of learning dances.
03:54I think Liza and I like one night learned about 12 to 14 dances in a night. Like I had to like
03:58put into like boxes in my brain. Like this is dance choreography that I'm going to memorize
04:04and retain. This is hosting side. Like this is script. This is choreography because it's a lot
04:10to remember and then spit back out so quickly, but we did it. I was like, whew, I still got it. Um,
04:15but dance, I have to say this show is so for those who are tuned in that don't know what we're talking
04:22about. I host a new show on NBC called dancing with myself and the, some of the dance creators,
04:27the judges are Liza Koshy, Shakira. I know as Shakira, she's iconic. Um, and Nick Jonas.
04:35And we just have a blast. It's a big dance party and you don't have to be a pro dancer to be on the
04:39show. You can be a mom, a school teacher, a doctor, a seven year old. Um, you, whatever it is,
04:47we welcome you all walks of life. And it is just like a big dance party and it's so fun. And the
04:52winner goes home with $25,000 and it's pretty incredible dance. Dance has pulled me out of dark
04:58places. Dance is infectious. It's contagious. I always say you don't have to be good at dancing,
05:04but everybody can dance. Everyone can dance if it's good or not. So that's a different question,
05:09but everyone can move their body and feel a beat. And, uh, yeah, I just love that you can dance
05:15to the video on drum and we're there to celebrate it. Honestly, I feel like the first time I came
05:23across you was your little dancing videos that you would do. That was like never dancing. You had a
05:30hashtag, you had a hashtag, never not dancing. And it was so fun and like such a, like uplifting
05:37thing to like, when you're scrolling and scrolling and scrolling to just see it,
05:41your like smiling face and just kind of like breaking it down for a second.
05:45I think the attraction to it came before Reels became super popular. Um, it was like you said,
05:50it kind of broke up those static posts and you just saw it and nothing was ever choreographed
05:55that I did. Everything was always, um, just in the moment, just feeling it in the moment.
06:01And a lot of people were like, cringe, cringe, but I got more people that were like, this is so
06:09fun to watch. And I, it was, I think when you post organic, authentic content, the way that it
06:16touches people, like there's no phony business in just dancing in front of your camera. Like you're,
06:21you just gotta be in the moment and then hit the post button because so many people love it. I mean,
06:26look at Tik TOK and, um, and now that, you know, there's a show made out of it, dancing with yourself
06:31and taking the stage and letting everyone just watch and enjoy and dance with us. That's why we
06:36teach everybody at home. But, um, no dances, dance has always been that go-to for me to just
06:43take my mind and body away from whatever stressors are weighing me down.
06:48Mm-hmm. Um, now what has been the biggest surprise to you with this season on the show?
06:57The biggest surprise, I think. Hmm. Okay. I would say the biggest surprise is how much we mean it when
07:05we say just like own it and be confident and take hold of your dance moves because there are people
07:12who advanced in the competition that maybe didn't stick the choreography incredibly, but like they held
07:18their own, you know what I'm saying? So I remember that his name was Marco and he was a jujitsu
07:22instructor and he was definitely not a professional dancer, but his soul, like everyone felt it.
07:30Everyone saw it. He was just a light, such a light on stage. And even when he spoke such a light,
07:36such an infectious personality, someone you just want to be around. And it was just cool to see that
07:41like typically on a professional dance show, he probably wouldn't have made it past the first round,
07:45but because I actually have chills talking about him. He was just, his energy was so incredible and
07:51he owned the stage, owned what he had. And there's just so much truth into it. When we say be you up
07:57on there, it will read the audience votes, the creators can make saves and Marco would get saved
08:02a couple of times or the audience would push him through to the next round. So, um, it was just cool
08:06to see that really come to life because I'm just there to narrate the show. And I have no say in it,
08:12even if I think that so-and-so is amazing and this person maybe should have, um, had their pod
08:16closed sooner. How, however the show rolls. But I would say that was probably the biggest surprise.
08:21It was like, wow, they mean it when they say you don't have to be pro just own what you got.
08:28Right. Just have fun up there. And I loved hearing everybody's stories. I mean, the mom that, um,
08:34she's, I've seen her on TikTok before, but, um, who had cancer and danced her way through cancer.
08:40Um, the dad, you know, just so many different walks of life all coming together to do.
08:46Totally. It was, there was a couple of times I had to have some makeup touch-ups on the side of the
08:50stage because it was emotional to hear everybody's stories. You just, everyone's dealing with
08:54something and no matter how you look on the outside or how you carry yourself. And especially again,
09:00I'm going to bring up social media, what you share on TikTok and Instagram and YouTube and all these
09:05places, everyone internally is dealing with something. And it's so special to hear how dance
09:12can bring people together. It's in, and it's just really beautiful. So if you guys haven't seen it,
09:18tune in. It is so fun, but yeah, no, it is, uh, it was cool to get to know people through that
09:24world. They say it's a universal language and it's so true.
09:26Yes. Um, and Shakira, as you mentioned, is one of the judges on the show. Now, has she gotten to
09:36teach you any moves? Like, has she delivered some dance lessons? Not that you need-
09:41It's been like unannounced dance lessons. Like when we're shooting, anything can happen. And I think
09:45that's what's so fun is myself, Nick, Liza, and Shakira, we all have different backgrounds,
09:49but we all have a love for dance. And so there's some times where she's like whipping out the body roll
09:54or trying to teach Nick something. And I'm trying to take like pointers here and there,
09:58but I have so much fun watching the show now that like in post-production world,
10:01me and my boyfriend get up and we do the dances and like his nieces and nephews. It's just like a show
10:07for everyone. It's, that's what I love the most. I'm a big sister and, um, have like little nieces and
10:15nephews and stuff. So it's cool to have like grandma watching it and loving it. And my aunt and my
10:19parents and the kids and, and my friends, my age, and it's, it's just a blast. I can't keep saying it.
10:27Such a, yeah. Such a family shout. Um, has any judge reaction surprised you? Like is someone more
10:36strict? No, I have to say if anything, no one's like mean. It's just very, it's if anything,
10:44it's like constructive criticism. And I have to say, it's pretty cool. Even if let's say for example,
10:49if Nick, um, says something to a contestant, like they're excited, like, Oh, that he was watching
10:56and he was paying attention. And yes, I will be better about doing that. And, um, but there isn't
11:02like a mean person. I can't, yeah, it is. Yeah. No, it seems just really light. Like when dancing,
11:12like everybody, you know, the whole audience, the judges, everybody's exactly. No, I, if I
11:17weren't hosting it, I would be applying. I would want to be in. So, so yeah, it's fun. I'm just happy
11:23that I get to dance on it too. And it's a blast. Do you dance? Yes. Um, I used to, I was a competitive
11:33cheerleader. I did choose between, um, dance and cheer. But yeah. Yep. Um, now would you ever do
11:44something like dancing with the stars? I've been on my bucket list for a very long time. I have been
11:49such a fan of the show. And I think that's also why I'm so excited about being on dancing with
11:54myself because I would always say like, Oh my gosh, Aaron Andrews being on the host and then
12:00seeing Tyra Banks. And I was like, I could always see myself doing that show, but I would, again,
12:04would want to be a contestant on it as well. But, uh, yes, I would love to. Yeah. I kind of,
12:14I love the idea of, well, now that Rob's retiring, you guys do a little like head to head.
12:19I definitely see us getting on that show and being like, you're going down.
12:26Yeah. Yeah. Healthy competition. I want to know something else. I would love it too for him as
12:34well, because I love when people who don't grow up with a dance background see the, like it's,
12:42it is, it's very athletic. You have to train. There's a lot of blood, sweat and tears. Oh yeah.
12:47Um, there's a lot of recovery time and rolled ankles and different things that go into it.
12:51And a lot of pounding on your feet that weighs in on your hips and all these different things.
12:55And you have to have a lot of upper body strength, especially with the lifts and everything else on
12:59both parties. And yeah, I love seeing people like be like dance, whatever. And then being like, Oh,
13:07this is, this is a real deal. Yeah. Especially professional athletes. When they like come out
13:16of there, they say it is the hardest thing that they've ever done in their lives. Like Olympians.
13:21They're like, that was, it's a lot. I missed it. I definitely noticed when I stopped dancing every
13:27single day. I was like, wow, I didn't realize, you know, it was like my favorite kind of cardio.
13:31Cause you don't realize how much time is going by or how much you're burning. I'm like, dang, I need
13:36dance every day. And how like you get like so lean to like lean, tiny muscles, but like so strong.
13:45The best workout. Yeah. That's why everyone's got, we're all Pilates girls. That's a whole nother
13:51thing. That's tough. Level. Yeah. It's tough. Um, now speaking of Rob, I feel like everyone just
14:01loves and emulates your relationship. They, you know, it's inspiring. You guys just seem like you
14:06have so much fun together. How do you keep things light? Like what's your advice for just
14:11continuing? Wow. I would say what's a way to keep things light and fun. We, when I describe the types
14:18of things that we do on our off days, we're going to sound like an old couple. Um, we really love
14:23like taking our shoes off and going barefoot and walking in like a nature trail. Like I'm really
14:29into grounding. I'm really into like, when I'm not on, I'm off. Um, we like to draw salt baths for
14:36one another. Um, we like to go get massages and I'm not talking like the little tickly like massage.
14:41We do deep tissue, like lymphatic drainage, like a lot of self care. Um, and I believe that the more
14:47that you pour into yourself, the more like chemistry and, um, and it just opens up like
14:52an energetic flow between the two of you when you're just taking care of yourself and you're
14:56like going for your goals and you're going for your dreams. Like, I feel like we've kept
15:00our relationship like, so like hot and spicy and fresh and new because we're constantly
15:05motivated by one another and traveling around the world. And it allows us to miss one another,
15:09um, and be excited for each other's accomplishments and, and being there for each other when you're
15:14down. So we communicate a lot. Um, and when we have those off days, we are off. Like we
15:20are off. We are barefoot, feet in the ground, bike rides, walks with the dog, um, cooking at
15:28home together and watching movies. That's about it.
15:33I love it. But like, you have to be when you're in this life and you're in this world and you're
15:39so, so, so on and like pouring your energy into others. Like it's so important to take
15:45that time.
15:45Even now, I haven't seen him for like a week and I'll see him again, like this Thursday.
15:50And I had said like, let's go to the movies. Like let's just, when's the last time we went
15:54to the movies? So we're, I'm excited to just put on a little makeup and go out on a date,
16:00you know? So it's, yeah, just keep taking each other out on dates when you can.
16:06Yeah.
16:09I love that. Now, is that how you're celebrating the retirement?
16:13I feel like now this is the second retirement. I'm like, been here, done this. Like I'm not,
16:19what do you want me to do? Three party? Like I've even been like, am I supposed to put up
16:23a retirement post for you? Like, I don't like what? We already did this.
16:27Do you know? So, and then we've seen what Tom did with his 40 day retirement or 42 day,
16:32whatever it was. Um, so I'm just, I'm here to support him no matter what. Um, he knows
16:39that I'm not slowing up anytime soon. So he, he literally says to me, I can't wait to just
16:44go on your free trips. And I'm like, what are you talking about? And he, I was just in
16:48St. Lucia the other month shooting my swimsuit line and he was my plus one and he came and
16:52while I, while he came on our flight, it was already booked. The car services were set
16:56up. The hotel villa was set. Like we stayed in this beautiful villa and he just slept in,
17:01ate the room service, like chilled on the beach, waved to me from afar while we're shooting
17:06over on the other beach. Like I was like, you are living the life, man. So he's looking
17:11forward to just following me around and all my travels and my jobs and which is nice.
17:15So I've been in the football stands for a while. So it's nice to have him like in my sideline
17:21now.
17:24Exactly. Literally in your sideline. Um, I was going to say, I was going to say like,
17:29if it'll be nice to have a fall, but you're going to be just, I love it. Don't get me wrong.
17:35The reflecting and the stopping is so important. Um, cause because I've dealt with burnout so many
17:41times and just even taking a break for four days, four days of not sending an alarm and just,
17:46you know, I know that everybody can't do that with, with a, you know, a nine to five and different
17:50schedules there. But, um, for me that has like, you know, five days in a row and waking up at 4am
17:56and not getting home till like eight, 9pm or, um, and doing all over again each day. It's all
18:01always different with a show or a shoot or a movie or whatever it is. And, um, but I, I realized that
18:07I need eight hours of sleep. I need some exercise. I need some days where I don't do
18:13shit. And I, and then I'm like re-motivated and want to get back out and get back.
18:21Right.
18:22After you're like grounding.
18:25Those who do it are like crazy. You're crazy.
18:28Weirdo. But those who do are like, I know exactly what you mean. So.
18:32Yeah. Have some like, I always, I feel like the sun and the recharge are my like
18:42recharging. Yeah, exactly.
18:46Yeah.
18:46Recharge the ion.
18:47You know about that? That's exactly what happens when you put your feet in the grass. It's like
18:51literally helps with all of that free radicals and everything.
18:56Yeah. Well, I'm sure it keeps you inspired too, especially when it comes to designing
19:03your line.
19:05Totally. Everything is very like minimalistic, simple, timeless, versatile. Um, because those
19:12are the things that I need in my life, especially when it comes to like dressing. Um, that's something
19:18that used to stress me out a lot. It's like, you know, having to be on camera and ready for
19:21all these things. I was like, I don't have time to shop. So then a stylist can do my life,
19:26but before that, when I like literally couldn't afford that and like all of a sudden my life
19:33became like so many appearances back to back to back, I realized I started finding clothes
19:38that were very timeless and versatile and simple and just, yeah. And that's, that's how,
19:46what I put into the jewelry that I make. That's what I put into the swimsuits that I make, um,
19:50things that you can buy and wear so many different ways for as long as possible. Um, and high quality
19:58and affordable.
20:02Yep. We love all of that and I can definitely relate. So I'll be looking through, especially
20:08yes. And, uh, the new drop comes, um, anything else coming up for you that you wanted to talk
20:14about or make sure that we, I think project wise, I'm not, I don't, there's always something, but
20:21if I were someone listening to this live and I wanted like a final goodbye, I just want to say
20:26that, um, I always like to say that I'm like no more capable than anybody else that's watching
20:33or listening to this right now and living the life that you want. Like you're, it's never too
20:38late. You're never too old and just go for it because I am truly like little Camille is like
20:45beaming to go on this press tour today and to be speaking about doing this show. And I don't plan
20:51on slowing up anytime soon. And I mean, being able to say that I can be a dancer and be a speaker
20:59for mental health and be a host and be an actress and be a designer and be an entrepreneur. Like
21:05it's, you don't have to be put yourself, you don't have to put yourself in a box. You don't have to
21:10like listen to anybody who's trying to conform you to a certain standard. Just live out everything
21:16that you want. It was a blessing. We all woke up today, excited to be here and just live life to
21:22the fullest. Don't compare yourself to anybody else. Comparison truly is a thief of joy and let go of
21:28fears. If there's anything that you want to do in life and you're limiting yourself because of a fear,
21:32let it go. Please let it go. The things that scare you the most, you should probably go for.
21:36I've done that many times and you feel like a new person. So just allow yourself to grow and evolve
21:42and put yourself in uncomfortable situations and watch how much more power you have than you think.
21:49So I think that's, that's going to be my final thoughts.
21:51Oh, I love that. I needed to hear that. So thank you. You're inspiring to me as somebody who
22:00like is in the industry and, and follows you and, and, you know, you rush it. Um, so thank you for
22:09those. So try after myself a lot. Yeah. Amazing. Well, thank you so much. I'll have a wonderful rest
22:19of your day guys. You're going to have fun tonight, 10 PM NBC.
