Overseas, the critically acclaimed superhero movie has already earned an impressive $47 million since opening midweek.

00:00Disney and Marvel Studios' Black Panther is already making history.
00:11The film brought in a massive $25.2 million when it opened Thursday night at the U.S. box office.
00:17That's the fourth best preview gross for any superhero movie.
00:21Behind Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises with $30.6 million,
00:25Batman v Superman A Dawn of Justice with $27.7 million,
00:29and fellow Marvel movie Avengers Age of Ultron with $27.6 million, not accounting for inflation.
00:35Black Panther edged out Captain America Civil War, which took in $25 million in previews.
00:40It's also the best preview number for February, nearly doubling the $12.7 million earned by Deadpool two years ago.
00:46And fans celebrated Black Panther's release by showing up to theaters opening night in some pretty amazing outfits.
00:52From traditional African clothing to character costumes, fans came dressed to impress.
00:57There were even some costumes from the 1988 Eddie Murphy movie Coming to America.
01:01Fans noted in social media posts that it was important for them to dress in a way that befitted a film
01:06being heralded as a cultural movement.
01:08Directed by Ryan Coogler, Black Panther is a defining moment in Hollywood history,
01:12as it's a big-budget studio tentpole featuring a virtually all-black cast.
01:16In the film, Chadwick Boseman stars as T'Challa, aka Black Panther, alongside Lupita Nyong'o, Michael B. Jordan,
01:23Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forrest Whitaker and Andy Serkis.
01:28The story follows T'Challa as he is sworn in as King of Wakanda, a hidden, technologically advanced nation in Africa
01:34that's home to the alien metal vibranium, which gives Black Panther his powers.
01:38Black Panther has generated enormous buzz in recent weeks. Tracking suggests it will debut to $165 million-plus
01:45over the four-day holiday weekend, but that number could easily climb higher.
01:49Either way, it should have no trouble passing Deadpool's $152.2 million opening
01:54to land as the top February opening of all time, not accounting for inflation.
01:58The film could also become the biggest launch ever for a Marvel Cinematic Universe hero's first standalone movie.
