Jaunpur/Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh): Police have cracked a sensational double murder case in which a man allegedly killed his parents with a grinding stone and dumped their bodies into the Gomti river. The accused, identified as Ambesh Kumar, a resident of Ahmedpur village under Zafarabad police station limits, has been arrested and further investigation is underway.

According to police, Ambesh Kumar murdered his mother Babita Devi and father Shyam Bahadur on the night of December 8 following a heated argument over money. During interrogation, he confessed that he lost control and struck his mother on the head with a grinding stone, followed by a fatal attack on his father.

Police said that taking advantage of the house being empty, Ambesh stuffed both bodies into a sack, loaded it into his car, and drove around eight kilometres to Belav Ghat, where he dumped the sack into the Gomti river. To avoid suspicion, he returned home and pretended to search for his parents the next day, informing relatives and acquaintances about their alleged disappearance.

On December 12, Ambesh himself went missing. Concerned over the disappearance of her parents and brother, his sister Vandana, a resident of Katauna village under Sindhaura police station in Varanasi district, approached Zafarabad police and filed a missing persons complaint on December 9.

Taking the matter seriously, police formed three teams to investigate. During the probe, Ambesh was spotted in Varanasi, where he bathed in the Ganges and was seen wandering on the ghats. When he later returned towards his home, police apprehended him. During questioning, he broke down and confessed to the double murder.

Police said Shyam Bahadur was a loco pilot in the railways who had retired just four months ago. He was living with his family at his in-laws’ place and had three daughters, all married. Ambesh was their only son.

Further investigation revealed that Ambesh had married a woman from Kolkata five years ago during the COVID-19 pandemic. The marriage reportedly caused frequent disputes within the family. Police said Ambesh wanted to relocate to Kolkata with his wife and was allegedly demanding money from his parents, which led to repeated conflicts.

ASP City stated that an FIR has been registered under murder charges. Fifteen divers have been deployed to search for the bodies in the Gomti river. The accused is currently being interrogated, and efforts are ongoing to recover the bodies and collect further evidence.

Villagers said Ambesh had been living comfortably and had even purchased a car using his father’s money, which was allegedly used to dispose of the bodies. Following the revelation, anger and resentment have spread across the village.
