Police Interceptors S24E12 (15th December 2025)
Transcript
00:00This is Police Interceptors and you're riding with the pride of Northamptonshire.
00:12Ace pursuit drivers with air support and a crack dog unit.
00:24They bring down the bad guys, keep the streets safe, and battle 24-7 in the war on crime.
00:45Crash, crash. Overflow now!
00:48This is what it is, isn't it? We find them, we lock them up.
00:54Coming up.
00:58A dangerous driver and his wanted passenger.
01:02Go for a spin.
01:04You've got two red dots on you. If you pull anything out of them, you're going to get tasers.
01:09A shocker in Northampton.
01:11Stay back.
01:12Stay back.
01:13Stay back.
01:14And a donut at the Holiday Inn.
01:20Gets his just desserts.
01:24There he is.
01:256-1. Contact, contact.
01:28A shadow is approaching the sunny town centre.
01:44One of West Mid's most wanted has been spied on North Hans Patch.
01:49Wanted for suspected kidnap, stalking and assault, he's believed to be in a silver A-class Merc.
02:01Yeah, I've got eyeball.
02:03It's going wrong side to keep the left bollard on Weedham Road.
02:07I'm trying.
02:08I'm trying.
02:09I'm trying to stop.
02:10An unmarked armed response unit is tracking the Merc.
02:17Vehicle is passing mature bingo on the near side.
02:22And it's eyes down for a full house, because the driver...
02:27...teams up for a game of chase.
02:31The Merc's two up.
02:33Stop it.
02:34I'm going to drive.
02:35What's the problem?
02:36With the suspect believed to be the passenger.
02:38It looks like this driver wants to join him on the wanted list.
02:48Off road.
02:49Free clean.
02:51Another unit joins the pursuit.
02:54Safety session.
02:55Safety session.
02:57Ward.
02:58Janey.
02:5916.
03:008458.
03:01And a growing convoy hurtles towards the M1.
03:07Hello.
03:08We're close to the tractor bike.
03:10Rock Valley.
03:11880.
03:12He's in risk.
03:15Cops need to stop him reaching the motorway.
03:17And they're booked in with the traffic.
03:19Lady Luck saves something for the bad guys.
03:30But they'll need more than luck to lose the four cops on their tail.
03:34Especially elite driver Paul Bertie Bertram in a Beamer M340i.
03:40The plan is to perform a box as Bertie takes the lead.
03:46He's on the Merc's bumper and just needs to get past.
03:56Bertie's a wizard at the wheel.
03:58A T-pack trained advanced driver with over 20 years worth of tricks up his sleeve.
04:03Including misdirection.
04:04He sells a dummy then unleashes the 368 of the Beamer's horses.
04:17The Merc is now the filling between an interceptor sandwich.
04:26But this driver seems a few sandwiches short of a picnic.
04:29As he makes contact with the two-tonne ARV.
04:35And nearly loses it into the central reservation.
04:41The pursuit is now only a few miles away from reaching the M1.
04:45But will the interceptors be able to stop him before there's mayhem on the motorway?
04:49The interceptors are after a runaway Mercedes in Northampton.
05:10The passenger is wanted for suspected kidnap, stalking and assault.
05:21Bertie's pulled ahead of the Merc.
05:24Which is caught between two cop cars.
05:27They need to stop it.
05:29Before it hits the M1.
05:31But with no way past Bertie's smart car at the front.
05:40They plan to turn the screw from behind.
05:42Then slow the whole thing down.
05:45The runaway is not shy of a game of bumper cars.
05:49But he's playing with the wrong drivers.
05:59As Bertie continues to block, the ARV goes for the bash.
06:03The arm response coppers on scene have come prepared.
06:17The passenger and driver feel the full force of the law.
06:36The passenger is confirmed as their suspect.
06:41And both blokes are going in bracelets.
06:43Calm, calm, calm, calm. I've got a man fast.
06:45Right, you're under arrest. First stop, dangerous drive.
06:48First to say anything, man.
06:49The defense is going to make sure there's a question.
06:51That's calm.
06:53If you do say, man, give it another news.
06:56With the Merc driver willing to smash into the cop cars.
07:02The only way to bring this pursuit to an end was to slow him down with the block.
07:08And finish with a perfectly executed tactical contact.
07:14What's your name?
07:16Sorry?
07:18Right, you'll come to no harm if you're compliant.
07:20Do you understand me?
07:21OK, OK, OK.
07:23Behave yourself for now.
07:27Despite risking their own lives, the lives of the interceptors and innocent members of the public,
07:32the driver thinks it's all a big joke.
07:35Bear in mind what you've just done. Do not laugh.
07:38It's going to kill people, you know that.
07:40But the repercussions of his actions aren't so funny.
07:46You'll go to prison for that.
07:50The driver pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving without a license or insurance.
07:54He received a 15-month suspended sentence, a 24-month driving ban and had to pay over a thousand pounds in costs.
08:03No action was taken against the passenger for the alleged kidnapping.
08:07However, for stalking and assault, he received a 12-week suspended sentence and a five-year restraining order.
08:12Give us two seconds.
08:18It's been a good result for the interceptors, but they're not only highly skilled in stopping cars.
08:24It's OK here then.
08:25Just wait there for a second.
08:26OK.
08:28They're also pretty handy at getting them moving again.
08:30Can you just bunch up a little bit?
08:33You come forward.
08:34Then you.
08:35Just a minute.
08:45Take a step back.
08:46The interceptors pride themselves on their negotiation skills.
08:49You can go on to the other side of the road.
08:51I just want you to stay away from me.
08:52But there are some confrontations that can't be resolved with talk alone.
08:57Taser!
08:58Taser!
09:01And there's nothing like a carefully aimed red dot.
09:05Don't move.
09:06Stay there.
09:07Stay there.
09:08To end the conversation.
09:15The benefit of having taser rather than spray or a baton is if you've got someone waving a knife or a sword around.
09:21You don't want to be that close because, in the nicest sense there, it's going to be bigger than yours.
09:26With taser, you've got the distance.
09:27So, should you need to deal with someone who's uncompliant and is likely to cause harm or injury to someone,
09:36you've got a good 25 feet to deal with them.
09:39You haven't got to put yourself in danger, basically, whereas the other bits of kit, you're more likely to get injured.
09:44Taser!
09:50Early doors on Thursday morning.
09:53Also be advised yesterday, the caller reports that he tried to attack staff with a pair of scissors.
09:59Multiple cars are responding to an assault in a supported housing unit.
10:06Romeo and Papa won one, dropped me on that as well.
10:09And Chris Guttridge isn't far behind.
10:13Staff at the unit are worried about the safety of the other residents.
10:18Making threats, I believe, to somebody and trying to break into a room and causing a bit of damage.
10:25So Chris floors his beamer and zeroes in on the address.
10:30I've just spoken to staff.
10:31He's going to be coming in first.
10:33Three common assaults.
10:37Officers already on scene report the suspect has locked himself in his room and may be armed.
10:42Public safety is the interceptor's top priority.
10:50And uncertain whether he's got a weapon, they draw their tasers.
10:56Mr. Police, can you answer me?
10:59There's no reply, so the team enter with caution with tasers at the ready.
11:03The man has violence markers and they suspect he may be getting ready to defend himself.
11:26How did he speak to you? So come here a second.
11:29He's getting something, sir.
11:30What are you getting?
11:31That's a blame, mate.
11:33That's something metal.
11:34The interceptors are on high alert.
11:37What's he arrestable for?
11:39Common assaults.
11:41So you are, but don't come in.
11:43Why is wrong?
11:45Do me a favour.
11:46Why so many people?
11:48Why so many people?
11:49OK.
11:50Do you want to just say the word?
11:51You're under arrest, OK, for common assaults.
11:53OK, you don't have to say anything.
11:54I've said if it would have been harm you to affect you to not mention one question.
11:56Something that you let around the court and if you do say maybe we're given evidence,
11:58all right?
11:59You've assaulted some staff here today.
12:01It's an allegation.
12:02So I need you to just...
12:03We'll get it sorted, mate.
12:04Just follow my commands for me.
12:05Turn around for me.
12:06Place your hands on your head.
12:07Mate, police have a taser.
12:09Around 50,000 cops are assaulted in the line of duty each year.
12:13And Chris has no plans to be one of them.
12:16Let's just get it sorted, yeah?
12:17Nah.
12:18This man.
12:19You're going to take this back now.
12:21Leave me there.
12:22I don't want to make this any more difficult, right?
12:24You're going to make this difficult.
12:26You're going to make this difficult.
12:27You're going to make this difficult.
12:28Listen.
12:29You're going to make this difficult.
12:30Listen.
12:31You're going to leave behind me as a taser at the moment, OK?
12:32Yeah.
12:33I don't want you to do it.
12:34I don't want you to do anything silly.
12:35I don't want you to get...
12:37The suspect's not complying and appears to be reaching for something.
12:41Just turn around.
12:42Take your hands out of your pockets.
12:43Hands out of your pockets.
12:44Do it now.
12:45Take your hands out of your pockets.
12:46You've got two red dots on you.
12:47If you pull anything out of you, you're going to get tasered.
12:49I've got nothing going.
12:50Turn around.
12:51Put your hands on your back.
12:52Do it now.
12:53There you are.
12:54There.
12:55Stay there.
12:56Do not move.
12:57He's got a history of violence and may be armed.
13:00They're running out of options.
13:02Stay back.
13:03Stay back.
13:04Taser, taser.
13:05Taser, taser.
13:06Taser, taser.
13:07Taser, taser.
13:08Taser, taser.
13:09I can't do it.
13:10F***.
13:11F***.
13:12F***.
13:13Go.
13:14Yeah, yeah, yeah.
13:15Come on.
13:19Hands on your back.
13:2050,000 volts have done their job, and it's on with the bracelets.
13:25We told you to figure out your pockets, didn't we?
13:271-1.
13:28Subject secure.
13:29You all right, mate?
13:30You're OK?
13:31Yeah?
13:32No.
13:33You sound.
13:34You sound now, can you?
13:35Yeah?
13:36A taser shock can cause uncontrollable muscle contractions, but the effects soon wear off.
13:41We're going to have to take the barbs out of you first, all right?
13:43Yeah.
13:44Right.
13:45Ready?
13:46Ready to stand up, mate?
13:47Yeah.
13:481-2-3, onto your feet.
13:49There we go.
13:50Might be a little bit sore while we're just taking these barbs out, mate.
13:52A barb from the taser is still in his leg.
13:55Right.
13:56Right, right, right.
13:57That one's going to hurt.
13:58Yeah.
13:59And another one's lodged somewhere much more delicate.
14:02Are we going to say leave that one in and HCP do it?
14:05Yeah?
14:06Taser pulses can also temporarily affect brain and speech function.
14:11Anyone for you, you're a paedophile protector.
14:15But this bloke's mouth seems to be working just fine.
14:18Do it.
14:19You get away from me.
14:21The taser team aren't going to let a few barbed comments shock them.
14:25Are you looking at that?
14:26It'll be fine, mate.
14:27It'll be fine.
14:28Are you going to be all right in the back of the head?
14:29It's fine, mate.
14:30Yeah.
14:31But while they're happy to take a few insults on the chin...
14:34Don't start that.
14:35...threats to police property aren't taken so lightly.
14:38Don't start being silly.
14:39Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go.
14:43Relax.
14:44Yeah.
14:45He's coming to the door.
14:46He's hitting intoxicated through something.
14:47Quite aggressive towards us.
14:48He's putting his...
14:49We've heard something metallic sounds like a knife or weapon.
14:51He's putting his hand in his pocket.
14:52He's advancing towards us.
14:53He's been challenged with taser and he's not stopped.
14:55So he's been tasered.
14:57He's absolutely fine.
14:58Safely resolved the incident without any harm to anybody.
15:00And he should be off to custody shortly.
15:04Mr Shortfuse pleaded guilty to three counts of common assault
15:08and using threatening behaviour.
15:10He received a 20-week suspended prison sentence,
15:13100 hours of unpaid work and 25 rehab days.
15:17It's a late spring evening in Northampton.
15:36While most of the town are already home from work, Chris is back on patrol.
15:42This time with Callum Donoghue, they're responding to the first job of their night shift.
15:47We are going to a report of a vehicle driving erratically, a Mercedes A200 at the Holiday Inn on the Bedford Road in Northampton.
15:58The boys hammer it over to the three-star hotel to check in on a five-star donut doing laps outside reception.
16:12Hotel guests film the wannabe boy racer complete lap after lap of his very own Holiday Inn Grand Prix.
16:21But this isn't Silverstone. The Whirling Donuts know Lewis Hamilton and the only points he'll win are the ones likely to go on his licence.
16:31With Chris and Callum still a few miles away,
16:42Donut's dizzy enough to need a quick pit stop,
16:48where he comes face-to-face with another unit.
16:55He can drive in a straight line after all.
17:00The response cops not pursuit trains so can't follow.
17:03Luckily, Callum has passed every test there is.
17:09There is.
17:10And absolutely can.
17:116-1, contact, contact, Bedford Road, General Direction of Town Centre.
17:15The target flies past at F1 speeds.
17:18Vehicle is failing to stop. Can I film on channel, please?
17:23With the Mercs in danger of disappearing.
17:28But Callum hits warp drive and reins him in.
17:33At lane two or two, traffic is medium, no pedestrians, DRA is low and its proportions continue.
17:41The runaway raises the stakes as he goes wrong side of the tracks.
17:46The offence in question at this time is a domestic twop.
17:50Information comes in that the suspect's in his mum's car.
17:54Left left, green ATS.
17:56But with driving this bad, he's going to face more than just being grounded.
18:01Victoria Prom, advanced TPAC driver, unmarked advanced vehicle.
18:06Delivery driver ahead, ten o'clock.
18:11At high risk temporarily, nearly a collision.
18:14Just Eat was nearly dead meat. The Merc missed him by inches.
18:21And while the boy racer blows a red with no thought for other drivers,
18:27Callum can't afford to be so reckless.
18:31We're held ATS, wait.
18:38The runaway's disregard for the public gives him a big advantage.
18:41Temporary loss, keep going straight, keep going straight.
18:44And Chris and Callum have, once again, been held up by traffic.
18:48Straight on, red ATS.
18:50Yes.
18:51He's continued on past the wee binding car to the offside.
18:54We're held with red ATS, temporary loss.
18:59Again, such a high risk driver, the odds were always against them on the busy roads.
19:03Have you called up total loss?
19:04Yeah.
19:05It's total loss at this time.
19:06Mate, we were never going to keep up with him like that going through the traffic.
19:07But he would drive like a nutter.
19:08But the interceptors know that slippery fish inevitably resurface.
19:21And with a net round the area, it's not long before they land Mum's 40 grand Merc
19:26and haul in the one that got away.
19:28Donuts down at the Nick, where Callum and Chris drop in for a few words.
19:43You don't have to say anything, but it may harm me all offence if you don't mention them
19:48in question.
19:49Something which you later on in court, and if you do so, maybe you'll never lose.
19:54The driver received no further action for taking his Mum's car.
19:58But for dangerous driving and other unrelated offences, he received a total of 19 months
20:03behind bars and a 38 month driving back.
20:06It's been a frustrating but ultimately successful end to their shift.
20:15I don't really know why he's driven the way he has.
20:18He's now going to lose his licence for essentially a two minute pursuit, which was a really bad decision.
20:24But he's now going to have to deal with the consequences of the rest of his life.
20:28His insurance is never going to be cheap.
20:30And he's probably going to get disqualified for a couple of years for it.
20:33But we all have the choice in life and he's picked the wrong one today, unfortunately.
20:38Still to come.
20:44Okay, he is continuing, er, weaving through the traffic at high speed.
20:48A pursuit across multiple counties.
20:51Okay, the vehicle's offered to the services.
20:54Comes to a smashing end for Dan and the team.
20:57This chap's under arrest for section 4 is off his face.
21:05And a drug fuelled driver on the M1.
21:08What are they?
21:09Antibiotics.
21:10Antibiotics.
21:11Antibiotics.
21:12What for?
21:13Yeah.
21:14Looks to be on more than just prescription medicine.
21:17He is probably one of the most intoxicated people I've seen.
21:27Temporarily high risk through a red ATS.
21:36When a runaway makes a play too dangerous to follow.
21:40Ah, it's the board from us.
21:42He's gone the wrong way.
21:43Bound Bedworth bypass.
21:47The interceptors have an ace up their sleeve.
21:50Yeah, pass 5-1.
21:53Bedworth bypass northbound on the wrong way.
21:56Standby.
21:57And with the eye in the sky.
21:59Empath 5-1.
22:00Crash, crash at Newton Road.
22:03Guiding the game on the ground.
22:05Got two out.
22:06Standby.
22:07Hey!
22:08No!
22:09I'm just flying now!
22:10The person on the ground nearest the road is you're going to be a driver.
22:14It's always a winning hand.
22:20Empath is probably one of the most valuable tools that we can use.
22:24Mainly because they can have a bird's eye view of the whole situation.
22:31The whole pursuit.
22:32So Empath just allows us that bit of time to back off.
22:35Formulate a plan.
22:36Keep eyes on them.
22:37Keep commentary and tell us where they are basically.
22:39It's the wee small hours on Monday morning.
22:46And Empath is tracking a Skoda Octavia on clone plates that's failed to stop for the West Midlands force.
22:55Okay, vehicle is still late to M6.
23:02They don't know why the driver's made off.
23:05But he's clearly got something to hide.
23:08Light traffic ahead still as he approaches the quality services.
23:13The choppers track the runaway Skoda into Warwickshire.
23:17Okay, vehicle straddling lanes two and three.
23:19Still passing the slow moving vehicle at speed.
23:21And it's heading for North Hans at a high rate of knots.
23:24Okay, he is continuing a week in through the traffic at a high speed hour.
23:31Good comms between air support and the units below will be the key to stopping the target.
23:38Thanks, I've notified North Hans.
23:43They're asking if you can go to their in-top three channel please.
23:48And they can start planning some stuff up ahead to try and get it stopped.
23:52North Hamptonshire ground units, including Dan Bradley Brophy, start to gather a greeting party.
23:59We're just going to head towards the M1 now.
24:01We'll just see if we can get in a decent position to try and help out.
24:05Okay, vehicles moving to lane one near side.
24:10The Skoda is weaving its way towards a warm welcome.
24:13He's undertaking lorries and the slow moving vehicles.
24:17It is just about to approach junction 1M6 over.
24:21Because units from all over the county are plotting up, prying to intercept.
24:27We'll head up to the north of the town just in case it should come off 14 and come down forwards.
24:32North Hamptons.
24:34And he's off on the 508, off on the 508.
24:40However, the suspects come off the motorway and taken a different route.
24:44Yeah, he's gone into, left into Mercedes Avenue.
24:47Or he's just pulling up at the side at the moment over.
24:49He's either trying to give the interceptors the run around.
24:53That looks to be doing a reciprocal plank.
24:56Or is completely lost.
24:58He's just slowing down.
25:02He's doing a reciprocal 180 standpoint.
25:04But there's no escaping the eye in the sky.
25:07Okay, he's back on the roundabout of the A14.
25:10Just half a mile away, Dan joins up with a firearms unit.
25:20And the interceptors assemble.
25:21As N-PASS guides them into their target.
25:35I think we've got mobiles now with this vehicle.
25:39The ground units finally have their prey in sight.
25:45Okay, the vehicle's offered to the services north side of the A14.
25:54Just up towards the lorry park.
25:55He's going the wrong way down the road.
25:57They clearly haven't to scooby where they're going.
26:00Or that North Hand's finest are about to pounce.
26:05Look to reinforce.
26:08When the driver pulls onto the garage forecourt.
26:11The cops have a prime opportunity to bring this two-hour cross-country pursuit to a close.
26:17I think I'm going to go.
26:30How are we with the Zeppel?
26:32Yeah, no, no, no.
26:33Well, it's, er, it's likely at the moment, I don't think.
26:36I don't think I'm going to go.
26:43Get out! Get out!
26:44On the floor!
26:45On the floor!
26:46On the floor now!
26:49Down!
26:50Down!
26:51Down!
26:52Down!
26:53Down!
26:54Down!
26:55The driver...
26:58...and passenger are finally in bracelets.
27:04Despite their best efforts to escape with a reverse ram.
27:12And having tracked these guys for over 75 miles...
27:16Edgy for M-pass 5-1 if it's in order we'll head back towards base ever.
27:19The eye in the sky bows out.
27:22M-pass, thank you very much.
27:27Back on the ground, it becomes clear why they've been so shy of a meet-up with the cops.
27:32That's absolutely full of cannabis.
27:34Yeah, yeah.
27:35So in the back of the car looks like a load of gear that we suggest relates to cannabis grows.
27:40So we've got plants, lamps, all that sort of stuff.
27:45So whether they've emptied it, stolen it, we'll find out.
27:48But I've never got too in custody for it at the moment, so great work.
27:54These guys could have robbed a cannabis farm, or it could be their own crop.
27:58Either way, they're in it up to their necks.
28:02Stand up, Bob.
28:04So I don't want you standing up with your hands behind your back, mate.
28:07Because you'll fall over.
28:08Your trousers are also around your knees, mate.
28:10That'll be fully over Channel 5, I'll get some more of everything.
28:13He's a happy soul, but the contents of his footwells are far from funny.
28:17In the car, there's a big coffee knife on the footwell and a carry bag full of cannabis as well, so there'll be a few hundred quids worth of cannabis there.
28:26These two herberts are clearly up to no good tonight.
28:29While Dan likes a trip to the zoo, his real preference is to see criminals behind bars.
28:36And one of the herberts has a confession.
28:39The weed's mine, yeah? I ain't fussed.
28:42I can't lie, if Deezer didn't get it, then I would have made it into any foes, yeah?
28:47Masterchefs cough to the weed, and the exhaustive search continues.
28:53No, it's that catalytic converter, is it?
28:59I don't care about no long journey.
29:00As for the herberts, their cross-country jaunt is over.
29:03Thanks to North Hans, and a little help from above.
29:07Good teamwork between us, so, and off the impasse, kept observations of that all the way through,
29:14so without them, I think we potentially could have lost that, so, yeah, fantastic.
29:21The case for possession of a knife in a public place and possession of cannabis was transferred to another force.
29:29Following an investigation, the suspects received no further action due to insufficient evidence.
29:35Do you take drugs at all? No.
29:42Once upon a time, it was tough to prove a driver was under the influence of drugs.
29:47Just get some saliva on the end of the tunnel for me.
29:50That all changed in 2015, with the introduction of a lick and nick game-changer.
29:56It's testing positive for cocaine.
29:59The roadside drug wipe.
30:00So, at this moment in time, the under arrest, okay, I'm suspicious of drug drive.
30:04Before, it was simply down to doing a fit test, a field impairment test.
30:13And that's where you get people at the side of the road putting the finger on their nose and trying to balance.
30:18We were sort of limited with how easy it was to detect the drug.
30:21But with the drug wipe screening device, it would tell us at the side of the road pretty accurately if they're over the limit for cannabis and cocaine.
30:33Drug wipes have driven a steady rise in convictions of drivers influenced by coke or weed.
30:38Unfortunately, some drivers use other drugs and catching them is a bigger challenge.
30:48It's the morning shift and Interceptor Tom Williams is invisible on the M1.
30:52We're in the unmarked car today.
30:55Advantages of the unmarked car is obviously people don't know we're there.
30:58So, it's kind of seeing people's true driving and just gives us that element of surprise.
31:05Touch wood so far, everyone's been fairly well behaved.
31:09It's a sunny day with clear roads.
31:12Roger.
31:13But things look less rosy a few junctions ahead.
31:17I'm called from the Hardways Agency that they've got a car that's in the live lane with a driver unresponsive.
31:24We'll have to see what he's like when we get there.
31:27Here we go.
31:33Show me 10-6.
31:35We should put the matrix board on.
31:39The driver's out of the car and all over the shop.
31:43The driver's out of the car.
31:53Hello.
31:55Hello.
31:56How are you? You all right?
31:57You all right?
31:58What's going on?
31:59I don't know.
32:00What are you here for?
32:05I don't know.
32:06Okay.
32:07Can we have a seat in my car for two seconds?
32:08I'm just going to grab hold of your hand.
32:10No, no.
32:11He's not filming me.
32:12He's filming me.
32:13All right?
32:14He's filming me.
32:15He's filming me.
32:16It's a moment in time you're under arrest on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drugs.
32:18All right?
32:19Pass me that hand.
32:21Pass me that hand.
32:24I'll be putting a close driver.
32:25Cheers, buddy.
32:26Let go of your vape.
32:27Let go of your vape.
32:28Let go of your vape.
32:30As I say, you're under arrest on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs
32:37at the moment in time.
32:38In case you don't have to say anything for the Mayharmie defence.
32:39Do you want to mention when questioned something with your lateral line in court.
32:42Anything you do say may be good evidence.
32:43All right?
32:44Are those handcuffs all right for you?
32:45All right.
32:46I'm just going to sit you in the back of my car.
32:476-1.
32:48You got an ETA 4-1-1?
32:49Just come up to 15 now, mate.
32:50Lovely.
32:51Cheers, mate.
32:52This chap's under arrest for Section 4.
32:53He's off his face.
32:54Just might need a hand with transport if that's all right.
32:55He might need a hand with transport to Tom's car.
32:56Cheers, mate.
32:57All right.
32:58You plunk yourself in there for two seconds, mate.
32:59All right.
33:00Is it your car, mate?
33:01Yeah.
33:02Yeah.
33:03Watch your head.
33:04All right.
33:05All right.
33:06All right.
33:07All right.
33:08All right.
33:09You plunk yourself in there for two seconds, mate.
33:12All right.
33:13All right.
33:14Is it your car, mate?
33:15Yeah.
33:16Yeah.
33:17Just before you get in, let me just quickly give you a search.
33:19Just stand up a sec, bud.
33:20What have you got on you?
33:22What?
33:23What have you got on you?
33:24Just cigarettes?
33:25No.
33:26What are they?
33:27Antibiotics.
33:28Antibiotics.
33:29Antibiotics.
33:30What for?
33:31Yeah.
33:32What for?
33:33No.
33:34What for?
33:35It looks like he's on more than antibiotics.
33:37Do you want to take a seat in there for me?
33:40The question is, what?
33:42Pop that foot in there, mate.
33:44What's going on?
33:45Are you under arrest at this moment, Tom, on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drugs?
33:48All right?
33:50And the reason being, you're very unsteady on your feet.
33:53Okay?
33:54Your speech is very slurred.
33:55And you've got white powder all up your nose.
33:57Okay.
33:58Okay?
33:59Could be a tough case to crack.
34:00Are you known to the police for anything, mate?
34:02Er...
34:03Say it again.
34:05Are you known to the police for anything?
34:07No.
34:08Have you got any medical problems, anything like that?
34:10No.
34:11No, you're all good, yeah?
34:12No.
34:13I think, um...
34:14Do you say an ambulance was called if so you can cancel them?
34:15There's nothing on this bloke.
34:16I think he's just under influence of drugs rather than anything medical.
34:20Copy.
34:21His behaviour isn't consistent with cocaine or cannabis use.
34:25He's more spaced out.
34:27Though Spaceman is occasionally coming back to Earth.
34:31Oh, no way.
34:33What?
34:34You're being filmed for this.
34:36Say again, bud.
34:37Yeah.
34:39Tom isn't bothering with the roadside drug wipe.
34:42As he suspects this guy is on something other than coke or weed.
34:46And he has the right to haul him into the neck for a blood test.
34:49Right, what the plan is going to be, just waiting for my colleagues to come down, okay?
34:53And then we're going to be taking you to custody, okay?
34:56Yeah, you understand that?
34:59It's pretty clear.
35:00Can I say that again?
35:02So, my colleagues are going to be coming here very shortly and we're going to be taking you to custody.
35:06Police station?
35:07Okay.
35:08Okay?
35:09We need to do, um, some procedures with you in terms of you potentially being under the influence of drink or drugs.
35:14All right, mate?
35:16Can I go to prison alone?
35:18No, not necessarily, mate.
35:20I don't think so.
35:23The driver has a date with custody, where a blood test should provide some answers.
35:28I think he's said to our Highway's colleagues that he takes ketamine.
35:34Which might not be necessary.
35:36It turns out, spacemen's told Highway's he's spaced out on ketamine.
35:41An anaesthetic that distorts perception of sight and sound.
35:45Basically, the M1's worst nightmare.
35:47I know Highway said that he was unfit, but he is probably one of the most intoxicated people I've seen.
35:55Um, clearly not fit to drive, um, can't speak, can't walk, and has got the remnants of, obviously, a good night last night up his nose still.
36:04Um, so, thankfully, he's only crashed into the barrier and not someone else, because I think he potentially could have caused, um, some serious problems on the motorway.
36:13But thankfully we've got him now and, um, we'll deal with him.
36:17And once Rachel searches the car, there's potentially more to deal with.
36:21So, I've found what I believe is going to be the drugs.
36:27He's got a silly bag of white rustic powder.
36:31Yeah, I've got his drugs.
36:32Beautiful.
36:34Can you further underestimate on suspicion of possession of controlled substance?
36:37Okay, mate, you're still under caution, alright, but...
36:40Under caution? He's lucky he's not under six feet of soil.
36:44He's lucky he hasn't killed himself, but he's lucky he hasn't killed anyone else.
36:49Come to Weston, lane one of the M1.
36:52At least we've got him, no one's hurt, he's not hurt.
36:54We take it to Custy and look after him there.
36:57We're good to go, mate, alright. We're going.
37:00The spaceman, who landed himself on the M1, pleaded guilty to drug driving,
37:05and received an eight-week suspended sentence and a 29-month driving ban.
37:09He also received a community resolution for possession of a class B drug.
37:14No surprises there, given he coughed up to taking ketamine.
37:18That is used normally as a horse tranquilizer,
37:21you know, to put animals under sedation.
37:24So the fact that he's been driving whilst basically sedated, beggars belief,
37:28if he hadn't crashed into the barrier and crashed into a family driving,
37:31you know, he potentially could have been looking at fatalities on the motorway.
37:34You know, you're driving a two-ton killing machine,
37:36that you've got no awareness of, you know, what you're doing.
37:40Erm, it's just a recipe for disaster in my opinion.
37:45Still to come...
37:48All I wanted was a...
37:50What? It's all crisp.
37:51You don't need to swear.
37:53...a motorist with the munchies in Wellingborough.
37:55That's it.
37:56You've tested positive for cannabis.
37:57So this might have a positive result for about two hours of all.
38:01Number plate cloning is a growing problem in the UK.
38:19The cops are keen to end that trend, and in Wellingborough,
38:22firearms units have just stopped a Vauxhall Astra they suspect to be on false plates.
38:26Sandra Payne and Joe Wood are heading over to assist.
38:32It's pulled over as if it was, erm, stopping, taking a natural stop.
38:37And then as they've put the lights on next to it, it's made off, albeit briefly.
38:42And the clone could just be to disguise documents offences,
38:46or it could be more sinister, used in crime.
38:49Sinister or otherwise, Joe and Sandra are en route.
38:54The clone-mobile contain four wannabe TV stars.
39:10We're on interceptors, man.
39:12We're on interceptors, man.
39:13Yeah, let's do one.
39:14Oh, we're on interceptors, Wes.
39:15How are you doing all right?
39:16Oh, we're on interceptors.
39:18Oh, we're on interceptors.
39:20Who you got?
39:22Hey, that is mad.
39:23What's your name, chap?
39:24Jamie.
39:25Jamie Norris.
39:27Joe deals with one of the passengers.
39:29This chap's been detained for a section one search.
39:35While Sandra tackles the driver.
39:37And where are you from?
39:39I'm from London.
39:40You are from London.
39:42He's already been arrested for no licence or insurance,
39:45so it could be a long walk home.
39:47What are you doing in Wernibur at the minute, then?
39:48What's the purpose of your journey tonight?
39:50No comment.
39:51No comment.
39:52No comment.
39:54Tricky types, like the no-comment kid,
39:56don't phase a pro like Sandra,
39:58whose least favourite customers are drink and drug drivers.
40:02Because you briefly fell to stop,
40:03I'm going to ask you to provide me with a specimen of breath.
40:05Have you had an alcoholic drink in the last 20 minutes?
40:07No.
40:08Have you had any mouthwash, dental preparation,
40:10cigarette or e-cigarette in the last five?
40:12No, no, no.
40:13I did want one just now.
40:16Was that because of the stress?
40:17Yeah, you've got a stress in me out,
40:18because now I've got to find my way home with a foot in that.
40:24Keep going, keep going, keep going.
40:25I'm pushing it out of your left.
40:28That's zero.
40:29Zero.
40:30I told you.
40:32There's no booze in his blood,
40:34but there's something dodgy in his boot.
40:36The cops suspect these are the Vauxhall's genuine plates.
40:40I didn't take my glasses off, I could shut them.
40:44He's remarkably chipper for a man facing multiple charges.
40:47You know, I've got excited because I've never been on TV.
40:51Yeah.
40:53There you go.
40:54Am I free to go yet?
40:55Yeah, just stay away from these guys.
40:57The bit park passengers exit stage left for the long trip home,
41:01but there's a soft bed at the nick for the star of the small screen.
41:05A lime cigarette?
41:06No, you're under arrest.
41:07It's not allowed.
41:08It's not allowed.
41:10And it's not just fags on the superstar's rider.
41:13All I wanted was a bit.
41:14What?
41:15Some crisps.
41:16You don't need to swear.
41:18Denied treats, his mood seems to be changing.
41:21Push that.
41:22No, but I've tried to be nice.
41:23I have tried to be nice.
41:24Have I not?
41:25I've not been disrespectful, not once.
41:26You're going to let me speak?
41:27Not once.
41:28You're going to let me speak?
41:29No, I'm not even going to speak no more,
41:30because it's just like, you know what?
41:31The respect is not being shown back.
41:33Okay.
41:34The driver's returned with the packet.
41:35Unfortunately for the driver, it doesn't contain any crisps.
41:39Have you done a drug wipe before?
41:41What?
41:42Have you done a drug wipe before?
41:43I was heard, didn't I?
41:44No, you did a breath test for alcohol.
41:46So, because I've got reasonable grounds to suspect
41:48that you've committed a moving traffic offence
41:50under the terms of Section 6 of the Road Traffic Act 1988
41:53and requiring you to provide a sample of saliva
41:55for a roadside drug wipe.
41:57What if I don't?
41:58Failure to do so without a reasonable excuse is an offence
42:00and will render you liable to prosecution.
42:02Do you agree to provide a sample of saliva for a roadside drug wipe?
42:05No, not yet.
42:06I want my saliva.
42:07And if not, what is your reason for refusing?
42:08I want a saliva.
42:09I want a saliva first, please.
42:10Okay.
42:11Luckily, Joan knows a bit about the law.
42:13Requesting a saliva is not a reasonable excuse.
42:15Before I say anything more, I want a saliva.
42:18That's it.
42:19So, I'll ask you one more time.
42:20Are you willing at this moment?
42:21I'm willing.
42:22I'm willing, but not at this point.
42:23Okay.
42:24So, because you're not...
42:25I'm not refusing.
42:26No, I'm not.
42:27You can hear me on camera.
42:28I am not refusing.
42:29I am not refusing.
42:30And that'll be liable, don't I?
42:32And to really prove he's not refusing...
42:34All right, go on.
42:35Take the saliva.
42:36Go on.
42:37Sit down, buddy.
42:38Take the saliva.
42:39I don't want to sit down no more.
42:40I'm done with sitting down.
42:41Well, you do need to calm yourself down, though, because you're getting yourself a bit
42:44excitable for not much of a reason.
42:46Just stop talking to me.
42:47Just stop talking to me, and then I'll be fine.
42:49He seems to like opening his mouth, which is perfect for Joe.
42:53Stick your tongue out.
42:55Nice and far.
42:56Right out.
43:00That's it.
43:02You were all smiley a minute ago.
43:04What, after a cigarette?
43:05That's it.
43:06Took your saliva ting.
43:07Take me to the station.
43:08Let's go.
43:10The saliva ting takes eight minutes to come through.
43:14Plenty of time to get to know each other a little better.
43:17What's your name?
43:18Hello.
43:21What's your name?
43:22Me.
43:23Joe.
43:24Joe.
43:25Nice to meet you, Joe.
43:26You too.
43:27What's your name?
43:28Sandra.
43:29Sandra, nice to meet you too, Sandra.
43:30I'm Joe.
43:31Nice to meet you too, camera lady.
43:32And now we're all best friends.
43:34Let's hope we never meet again.
43:36What is it?
43:37We can't swerve tough conversations.
43:40See, it says CL there, control line.
43:42That means?
43:43That means that for cannabis and cocaine, the test is working, which is why there's a line at each.
43:46Yeah, so what is it?
43:47Unfortunately for you, also under TL, which is trace line, there's also a sign for cannabis,
43:52which means that you've tested positive for cannabis.
43:54Yeah, I did have a popular drink that two hours ago.
43:57I can't remember that.
43:58So at this moment in time then, 2301, further under arrest on suspicion of driving worse over the prescribed, didn't it?
44:04No worries. I was nearly lucky though, wasn't it?
44:06Or drug?
44:07Or specified drug.
44:08Erm, just remind you that you are under caution, OK?
44:11It's been a bad night for him, but he's trying to look at the positives.
44:15Oh well.
44:17Night away from the kids, eh?
44:20Good night's sleep.
44:23Sleepyhead's nightmare turned into a reality when he was banned for 12 months for drug driving and without a licence or insurance and on fraudulent plates.
44:36He was up and down, wasn't he?
44:38He wasn't happy with me when the drug wipe came out.
44:40Erm, and then at the suggestion that he might not be coming into the cells if he passed it, he was all nice again.
44:45Erm, but it didn't work out for him in the end.
44:47So, no, good result, getting him off the street.
