25 December - National Morning Forecast presented by Tom Morgan
Transcript
00:00Good morning.
00:01Boxing day is starting on a cold note for all of us and for some of us there are scenes
00:05like these with a frost particularly in more rural areas and even some fog patches particularly
00:10in northern parts of Scotland that's here we've got the lightest winds through the course
00:13of today and that fog may well be quite stubborn to clear in areas like the Moray First but
00:18for most of us it's going to be a fine day there'll be unbroken sunshine for many areas
00:22actually so a glorious day for perhaps getting out and burning off yesterday's Christmas
00:26lunch perhaps maybe some southern areas a bit cloudy compared to yesterday particularly
00:31southern regions of England the southwest and here still another keen easterly winds so feeling
00:37pretty cold out and about although not quite as windy as it was yesterday and certainly
00:42the further north you are the winds will be quite a bit lighter temperatures on the thermometer
00:46reading five or six degrees once again for most of us but struggling to get much above
00:51freezing if the fog doesn't clear across northern Scotland and in the south at least it won't
00:56be quite as windy as yesterday so there won't be quite as much of a bitter wind chill out
01:01and about into this evening not a lot changes overall it will stay dry for all of us there
01:07will be some lengthy clear periods around as well for many particularly this evening as
01:11we go through the course of the night though probably seeing increasing amounts of cloud
01:14developing initially across northern parts of Scotland with the odd spitter drizzle here
01:18and there but also later in the night we'll start to see areas of cloud pushing in from
01:22the north sea into north eastern parts of England and perhaps into the midlands and parts of
01:26Wales by the morning too this should mean that frost in these areas is a little bit more limited
01:31and patchy but where skies do remain clear through the night then temperatures are likely to fall
01:36below freezing in the countryside as I say and even in towns and cities will get quite close
01:41to freezing now Saturday will generally be a slightly different day probably more in a way of cloud
01:47overall compared to on Christmas Day and Boxing Day the cloud most extensive probably across more
01:52eastern parts of the UK particularly northeast England the midlands but the cloud also drifting
01:57westwards into parts of Wales in the southwest of England perhaps at times too so overall a duller day
02:02to come and the cloud potentially even thick enough to give the odd a little bit of light rain or drizzle
02:07here and there particularly over the Pennines and the North Yorkshire moors for example the best of the
02:12sunshine for western Scotland and in general more western parts of England and Wales and northern
02:16Ireland will see the best of any sunny spells it will feel fairly chilly underneath those grey laden skies
02:22highs of seven or eight degrees perhaps but not quite as windy as in recent days in the south
02:27and the winds shifting direction to more of a northerly through the day not a lot changes as we go into
02:33Sunday either overall pretty grey and drab conditions for most again perhaps a little bit of light drizzle
02:40here and there but most places will remain dry the best of the sunshine perhaps for northwest Wales
02:44northwestern parts of England and in general Scotland looks like faring best for sunshine or brightness
02:50through the next few days here winds light as well so we could see one or two full patches linger
02:56but overall it's a bright theme in the south generally five or six degrees and temperatures
03:01a little bit higher than perhaps they have been at least with the wind chill element not quite as
03:06pronounced that's everything from me though I do hope you have a good day and I'll see you again very soon
