New Year’s Eve sacrifice: Working while others ring it in

As Kuala Lumpur prepares for New Year’s Eve celebrations, some workers are on duty while most celebrate with family and friends.   From telco contractors and florists to baristas and delivery riders, many say working on the holiday is routine.   While missing the countdown is a sacrifice, some embrace it positively, citing extra pay, camaraderie, and the joy of serving others. 00:00As the capital gears up to welcome the New Year with fireworks and festivities,

00:08most people will be counting down with family and friends.

00:11But for some dedicated workers, New Year's Eve is just another day on the job.

00:16Many say it's routine in their line of work.

00:30Because, you see, the Cal City, so major of the, you know, banks, everything will be here.

00:36So any urgent or whatever, we have to be there.

00:41We have a survival.

00:43There's a festival.

00:44If there's a festival, we also have a life.

00:48It's just like it's normal.

00:50It's not very happy, it's not happy.

00:54It's normal.

00:55While missing out on celebrations is a sacrifice,

00:58some workers maintain a positive outlook.

01:02I feel like working at the New Year's Eve is a little bit sad.

01:06But for me, it's okay.

01:09Because we, although we don't go to the New Year's Eve,

01:13we can see people at the New Year's Eve.

01:15And then, working at the New Year's Eve is the best because

01:18boss can play double.

01:20Enjoy the work, because we can go to the New Year's Eve with friends at work.

01:32at the same time, kita boleh celebrate untuk New Year's Eve juga.

01:36I'm very happy because it's called double salary.

01:39Actually, not hard lah.

01:41I just enjoy the,

01:43a lot of customer.

01:45They happy, come and buy the flower.

01:48Then, happy and go.

01:50It's okay lah.

01:50As the city prepares to ring in the New Year,

02:12it's worth acknowledging those on duty.

02:14Their dedication ensures the celebrations can go on.

02:18And for that, they deserve our gratitude.
