00:00Winter is here, that's for sure. A powerful storm is still leaving its mark this morning
00:08as crews across the Midwest and Northeast dig out from blizzard conditions and travelers deal with
00:13another tough day on the move. In southern Minnesota, we're starting to see the damage
00:18from the whiteout conditions. Jackknife semis, wrecked cars and long recovery efforts that
00:24simply could not happen when the storm was at its worst. State officials say dangerous winds
00:29and near zero visibility made travel nearly impossible in some areas. Farther east, snow
00:35and ice continue to grip parts of Maine, where crews are salting roads, clearing lots and urging
00:41drivers to take it slow as temperatures plunge and precipitation refreezes. At major airports,
00:47including Minneapolis-St. Paul, snow-covered taxiways, long check-in lines and rolling delays
00:53are adding to the frustration. Nationwide, thousands of flights were canceled Monday
00:58as airlines scrambled to recover during one of the busiest travel weeks of the year.
01:04Meteorologists say the storm rapidly intensified into what's known as a bomb cyclone, driven by a
01:09sharp clash between frigid Canadian air and lingering warmth to the south. The system is now pushing east,
01:16bringing a mix of snow, ice and high winds to the northeast, where officials warn hazardous travel
01:22and scattered power outages could continue into today.
