Thornberry: I wish we were clearer over US Venezuela operation

Labour MP Emily Thornberry says that she wishes the Government were “a little bit clearer” in their response to the capture by U.S. forces of Venezuela's Nicolás Maduro. “I appreciate that it’s in our interest to be good friends with America, but it’s also in our interest that the international rules-based order continues to exist”, Thornberry says. 00:14functions under a series of rules. We are a medium-sized country. And if we start losing

00:21that, then it will be definitely to our disadvantage. We can't have might being right. We have to

00:28stand up and make sure that's clear that we don't accept it. I'm not saying that we should

00:32do it on our own. We have a series of other countries that we work with, you know, Canada

00:38and Japan and Germany and France. I think what we should be doing is together saying,

00:44no, this isn't right. You don't do this. And I think that we should make sure that we do

00:49that loud and clear.
