Nick MacKenzie was born on March 2, 1950, as Nick van den Broeke in Bandung on the Indonesian island of Java. He is a Dutch pop and schlager singer. As a teenager, he first sang with the group Secrets. Later, he became a member of the band Road. With Road, he scored a hit on the Dutch charts in 1971 with “Never Leave Me Lonely.” Nick MacKenzie then launched his solo career. His breakthrough came in 1973 with “One Is One.” The single reached No. 2 on the Dutch Top 40. Later that same year, “Juanita” followed, reaching No. 5 in the Netherlands and climbing to No. 4 on the German singles charts in 1974. Also in 1974, “Peaches On A Tree” became another major hit, peaking at No. 5 in the Netherlands. This was followed by the chart hits “In Old Mexico” and “Hug Me.” In Germany, Nick MacKenzie also released German-language versions of his songs, including “Juanita” and “Der Apfel fällt nicht weit vom Stamm.” His debut album, Nick MacKenzie, was released in 1973. It was followed by Tell The World... (1975), Hello, Good Morning (1980), The Leaves Are Falling (1982), Inspiration (1990), The Best & More Today (1995), Saved By The Grace (1997), Night Live (2000), Mystique (2010), and Mystery (2013). His best-known singles include “One Is One” (1973), “Juanita” (1973), “Peaches On A Tree” (1974), “In Old Mexico” (1974), “Hug Me” (1974), “Tell The World” (1975), and “Hello, Good Morning” (1980). The latter single reached No. 20 on the Dutch charts in 1980 and became his last major chart success.
