The Vocaleers

The Vocaleers were an American doo-wop and R&B group formed in Harlem, New York, in 1952. The original lineup featured Joe Duncan, Herman Dunham, William Walker, Melvin Walton, and Teddy Williams. Initially performing as the Rainbows, they began appearing at school events and talent contests, including those associated with the Apollo Theater scene. In December 1952, they released their debut single “Be True” backed with “Oh Where”, which became a regional success. In March 1953, the group released “Is It a Dream”, which reached number 4 on the Billboard R&B chart. Lineup changes followed, and after a late-1950s re-formation that produced additional recordings, the Vocaleers disbanded for the final time in 1962.
