Lula Marietta McClelland, also known as Lula Reed, born on March 21, 1926, in Mingo Junction, Ohio, was an American rhythm and blues and gospel singer. She began her musical journey singing in her local church choir and won an audition to become the vocalist with Sonny Thompson's band. Reed made her recording debut for King Records in late 1951 with "I'll Drown in My Tears", which reached number 5 on the Billboard R&B chart in 1952. Her next single, "Let's Call It a Day", also achieved chart success, peaking at number 7. Reed continued to record for King until 1956 and was voted the number 4 R&B singer in the Cash Box annual poll in 1954. She later recorded with Freddy King and released several albums, including Boy-Girl-Boy (1962). Reed's final single was released in 1967, after which she left the music business due to a lack of promotion. She passed away on June 21, 2008, in Detroit, Michigan.
