Marcel Pérès, born on July 15, 1956, in Oran, Algeria, is a French musicologist, composer, choir director, organist, and singer. He studied organ and composition at the conservatory in Nice and became an organist at the Anglican Church of Nice at age fourteen. Pérès trained at the Royal School of Church Music in England before returning to France in 1979. In 1982, Pérès founded Ensemble Organum at the Abbey of Sénanque, which he has also directed. He has released over forty recordings, primarily with Harmonia Mundi, earning numerous distinctions, including Diapason d'or and Classical Awards. He was awarded the ranks of Knight (1996) and Officer (2013) in the Order of Arts and Letters.
