Harry Raab, known professionally as Harry "The Hipster" Gibson, was born on June 27, 1915, in New York City, and was an American jazz pianist and singer. He began playing piano professionally at age 13 and gained recognition for his wild singing style and energetic piano playing. In the late 1920s, he played stride piano in Dixieland jazz bands in Harlem, adding barrelhouse boogie to his repertoire throughout the 1930s. His unique blend of boogie woogie, ragtime, stride, and jazz styles can be heard in songs like "Riot in Boogie" and "Barrelhouse Boogie". In 1946, he appeared as himself in the film musical Junior Prom. His career was sidelined after the release of "Who Put the Benzedrine in Mrs. Murphy's Ovaltine?" (1946), which led to his blacklisting due to its controversial subject matter. Despite this setback, he continued performing live and passed away on May 3, 1991.
