Michael Pewny, born on November 11, 1963, in Vienna, Austria, was an Austrian pianist and singer known for his work in jazz, blues, and boogie-woogie. He began classical piano lessons at age six under the guidance of his father, Leopold Pewny. By thirteen, he discovered boogie-woogie and blues. His first public performance was in 1979 at the Hietzing Adult Education Center. In 1987, Pewny released his debut album Vienna Boogie Woogie with Torsten Zwingenberger on drums. Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, he collaborated with various artists, including Dana Gillespie and Axel Zwingenberger, releasing notable albums such as Left Hand Roller (1990) and Movin' to Chicago (1999). He also founded his own label, Susy Records. Pewny's career highlights include performances at major festivals like Jazzfest Wien and the International Brunner Blues & Boogie Woogie Festival, where he served as musical director from 2007 to 2014.
