Joseph Bishara, born on July 26, 1970, is an American composer, music producer, and actor. He experimented with electronic and experimental music, influenced by Tangerine Dream, and joined the industrial band Yesterday's Tear (later Drown) in the late 1980s, touring briefly with Prong. His film score work began with the 1998 Biblical drama Joseph's Gift, after which he began scoring films such as Unearthed (2006) and The Gravedancers (2006). Bishara’s breakthrough in the horror genre arrived with the 2011 score for Insidious, followed by 11‑11‑11 (2011), Dark Skies (2013), The Conjuring (2013) and the Insidious sequels (2013, 2016, 2018). He also composed for Annabelle (2014), V/H/S: Viral (2014) and The Conjuring 2 (2016). In addition to composing, Bishara frequently appeared in the films he scored, often as a demon or supernatural entity. His work earned an ASCAP Top Box Office Films award in 2014 and was noted for its avant‑garde style and use of experimental instrumentation.
