Heseon Hellen Kwon is a South Korean operatic soprano born on January 11, 1961, in Seoul. She studied at the Hochschule für Musik Köln under musician Dietger Jacob and won the first prize at the Novara International Singing Competition in 1984. Kwon made her debut as the Queen of the Night in the opera Die Zauberflöte at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden. In 1987, she became an ensemble member of the Hamburgische Staatsoper. Kwon performed at international festivals including the Salzburg Festival and the Bayreuth Festival, collaborating with conductor James Levine and conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy. She received the Rolf-Mares-Preis in 2010 for her role in the production of Das Gehege. Kwon was honored with the title of Hamburger Kammersängerin in 2011 and received the Order of Civil from the Korean government in 2012. Her recording career included the studio recording Christmas Cantatas (1995) and the studio recording Mozart: Konzertarien (2000).
