Raina Kabaivanska, born on December 15, 1934, in Burgas, Kingdom of Bulgaria, is a Bulgarian opera singer known for her soprano voice. She began her musical education at the Pancho Vladigerov State Conservatory, initially studying piano and later focusing on singing. Her first performances were at the Opera Sofia in Eugene Onegin (1957) and Un ballo in maschera (1958). In 1959, Kabaivanska won the Vercelli Opera Competition alongside Luciano Pavarotti. She went on to perform at major opera houses worldwide, including the Teatro alla Scala, Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall, Covent Garden, Bolshoi Theatre, and Teatro Colón. Notable roles included Tosca, Madama Butterfly, and La traviata. Kabaivanska received numerous awards, such as the Bellini Prize, Puccini Prize, and the highest Bulgarian state award, the Order of Stara Planina.
