Arto Erkki Noras, also known as Arto Noras, was born on May 12, 1942, in Turku, and is a Finnish cellist. He began his musical studies at age six at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, later studying with Paul Tortelier at the Conservatoire de Paris, where he earned the Premier Prix in 1964. He gained international recognition two years later when he won second prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. His repertoire spans all significant works for cello, including those by contemporary composers. He was appointed professor of cello at the Sibelius Academy in 1970 and founded the Naantali Music Festival from 1980 to 2022.
