Belle Miriam Silverman, also known as Beverly Sills, was born on May 25, 1929, in Brooklyn, New York, and was an American operatic soprano. She began her musical journey at a young age, winning "Miss Beautiful Baby" at three and appearing on radio programs by four. Her professional debut came in 1945 with the Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company. Notable recordings include Moore's The Ballad of Baby Doe (1959) and Verdi's Rigoletto (1978). In 1966, she gained international recognition with her role as Cleopatra in Giulio Cesare at the New York City Opera (NYCO). She retired from singing in 1980 but continued to make significant contributions to the opera world, serving as general director of the NYCO and president of the Metropolitan Opera. She passed away on July 2, 2007.
