Josef Wolfsthal, born on June 12, 1899 in Vienna, Austria-Hungary, was an Austrian violinist and concertmaster. He began his musical education under the tutelage of his father Lazar Wolfsthal, a music teacher. By ten, he studied with Carl Flesch, a prominent violinist. Wolfsthal debuted successfully in December 1915 at the Bechstein Hall in Berlin and later performed with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. His career included roles as concertmaster for various orchestras, notably the Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra and the Berlin State Opera. He also began teaching at the Berlin Academy of Music in 1926. Wolfsthal's notable collaborations include performances with Richard Strauss and Otto Klemperer, as well as recordings such as Ein Heldenleben and Der Bürger als Edelmann. He also performed the premiere of Karl Weigl’s Violinkonzert D-Dur in 1930. He died on February 3, 1931.
