Rudolf Schock was a German operatic, lieder, and operetta tenor born on September 4, 1915, in Duisburg. He achieved professional recognition for a musical career characterized by his work as a lyric tenor and for his membership in the choir of the Bayreuther Festspiele. Schock's career began in 1932 when he was admitted to the opera choir of the Duisburger Stadttheater. He achieved professional recognition for receiving his first soloist contract with the Staatstheater Braunschweig in 1937 and performing as a guest at the Wiener Staatsoper. His recording career began after he was discovered by producer Walter Legge in 1946 and signed a contract with the label EMI. Schock achieved professional recognition for being the first German singer after World War II to perform at the Royal Opera House in 1948. His discography included performing the role of Stolzing in a 1959 production of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at the Bayreuther Festspiele. Schock achieved professional recognition for his appearance in music movies including Du bist die Welt für mich (1953) and Das Dreimäderlhaus (1958). He achieved professional recognition for the studio recording Die Stimme für Millionen (1978) which reached number 3 and achieved gold status in Germany. Schock achieved professional recognition for receiving the Großes Verdienstkreuz and being named an Austrian Kammersänger. He died on November 13, 1986.
