Jeannine Altmeyer, born May 2, 1948, in Pasadena, California, is an American operatic soprano. Altmeyer studied voice with Betty Olssen, Martial Singher, Luigi Ricci, Lotte Lehmann, and George London, before winning the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 1971. She debuted at the Metropolitan Opera as the First Lady in Die Zauberflöte, the First Flowermaiden in Parsifal, and Frasquita in Carmen. She later performed the role of Freia in L'Or du Rhin at the Chicago Opera and the Salzburg Easter Festival under Herbert von Karajan. In Stuttgart, she portrayed the title role of Salomé in 1975, and performed as Chrysothémis in Elektra in 1980. During the 1980s, Altmeyer recorded the complete Der Ring des Nibelungen cycle under Marek Janowski, performing the role of Brünnhilde, and recorded Fidelio with Siegfried Jerusalem under Kurt Masur. Her recordings also include the complete Der Ring des Nibelungen cycle recorded live at the Dutch National Opera under Hartmut Haenchen, which was released on DVD in 2006.
