Benjamin Schmid is an Austrian violinist born on September 13, 1968, in Vienna. He received his training in Vienna, Salzburg, and Philadelphia. Schmid won the first prize at the 2nd International Violin Competition Leopold Mozart in Augsburg in 1991. In 1992, he won the Mozart, Beethoven, and audience prizes at the Carl Flesch Competition. His recording career included the studio recording Sonaten und Partiten für Violine solo (2003) and the studio recording From Fritz to Django (2007). Schmid has performed regularly at the Salzburg Festival since 1986. His studio recording Hot Club Jazz (2015) was included in the Bestenliste of the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik. Schmid performs as a jazz musician under the name Beni Schmid and plays on the 1718 Stradivari "ex Viotti" provided by the Österreichische Nationalbank.
