Chester William Powers, Jr. was an American singer-songwriter and guitarist born on October 7, 1937, in Danbury, Connecticut. Known professionally by the stage names Dino Valenti or Dino Valente, he reached wider visibility as a lead singer for the psychedelic rock ensemble Quicksilver Messenger Service. As a songwriter, he performed under the pseudonym Jesse Oris Farrow and reached professional recognition for writing the 1960s anthem "Get Together". Powers began his professional career in the late 1950s performing in New England lounges and later joined the folk music revival scene in Greenwich Village. He served a prison sentence at Folsom State Prison during the 1960s, during which time Quicksilver Messenger Service recorded his song "Dino's Song". Following his release, Powers signed with the label Epic Records and released his debut eponymous studio recording Dino Valente (1968). He served as the opening act for musician Jimi Hendrix in 1968 and formally joined the Quicksilver Messenger Service lineup in 1969. His recording career with the group included the studio recordings Just for Love (1970) and What About Me (1970), the latter of which featured the single "Fresh Air". Powers died on November 16, 1994, in Santa Rosa, California. His discography included the posthumous compilation recording Get Together... The Lost Recordings (2007).
